[GPS][ABANDONED] pb3 GPS Tweaks for Samsung Gingerbread - Captivate Android Development

Note: This project has been abandoned. Use at own risk.

pb3 Captivate Gingerbread GPS Tweaks
This is a package of tweaks and modifications to GPS configuration on Samsung Captivate under Gingerbread. Tested so far under KH3 (Pinnacle, Captivate I897 2.3.4) but is derived from XXJVS 2.3.5 GRK39C 2.3.6 Nexus S i9020A and should work on any deodexed, I-897/I-9000 Gingerbread ROM/modem.
Users of Odexed ROMs should delete /system/app/AngryGPS.apk from the .zip before flashing, and if desired substitute an odexed XXJVS AngryGPS.apk.
WILL NOT WORK WITH FROYO ROMs.
WILL (Probably) NOT WORK WITH CM7 OR MIUI
Localizing for your Country/Region
This BETA version is localized only for North America. As the North American pool is about 90% US-based servers anyway, this setting is likely adequate for most users throughout North America. If desired, NTP server localization (i.e. us.pool.ntp.org, ca.pool.ntp.org, europe.pool.ntp.org etc.) can be changed by editing line 1 of /etc/gps.conf to the desired NTP server. See http://www.pool.ntp.org/zone/@ for server details for your region.
Installation Instructions:
IMPORTANT: In order for this to work properly you must adjust your SUPL settings after flashing!
Download the file and flash in CWM3 recovery.

@Rrryan2
Heck of a great start. I'm only seeing two satellites though now.
... But hey one is always showing a signal strength of over 230 using the gps test app! I posted the issue on your link.
I'm on Pinnacle 1.2
As always, thanks for the efforts.

Beta 2 on apex 10 makes gps actually work.

Pinnacle problem - if you upgraded from Pinnacle 1.1x using the 1.2 no-wipe upgrade, the GPS issues that were in 1.1 are still present. Upgrade using the 1.2 full wipe and that issue goes away.

Okay will do... Thanks

Good results on Pinnacle 1.2 with KF1. Getting a little better results than with h3llstorm's fix, I'd usually get 7/7 sat lock with 30m accuracy in 15 seconds cold, but now I get 8/8 with 10m accuracy. Good stuff, thanks. And this is coming from a captivate which had terrible gps on froyo except for JVO modem, and practically non-working gingerbread gps without any fixes.

would love to try this. is it possible to install on non-cwm, stock kh3? tried with the update via zip in recovery but it complained about invalid signature...

Theme Template http://www.multiupload.com/FVJV09FODM
Change log:
V3.0.1 - disabled increasing phone signal, new market, new highres gallery (maybe a bit slower), optimized ZEAM added, new browser. Better market fix, updated voicedialer, tweaked system for speed. Moved Gmail, Map, Talk, Voicesearch, Flash Player on data/app)

3) Copy the ROM file and/or add-on to internal SD
4) Reboot to Recovery
5) Apply update.zip in Recovery to load Clockworkmod Recovery
6) Install the ROM file from internal SD via Clockworks
7) Wait for the install and reboot the system, Voodoo voice will let you know it is working
8) Install Add-On via CWM Recovery if needed (Must let the phone boots at least once)
Credit goes to DocRambone, kalpik, xcaliburinhand, Tayutama, Mikeymike and everyone else for their hard work to make this possible.

Base ROM V3.0.1 http://www.mirrorcreator.com/files/CTDOKWNV/KILLER23D_XXJPU_Doc_V3.0.1_Wipe.zip_links BUG FOUND!! RISKY
- Setiron's Kernel is NOT quite compatible with the ROM, I don't recommend it. However, you can still use Odin to flash it in after the phone is rebooted at least once.
- DO NOT reset to factory if you have Setiron's kernel because the phone will get stuck at Galaxy S screen.
- Tested working great on voice, data, bluetooth. GPS got a lock within 15 sec with 30 meter accuracy.
- No CWM in kernel, this will not change unless Setiron/xcaliburinhand decides to have them in.
- If you need to get out of this ROM, I suggest please use Odin One-Click Restore to JF6 and start-over. CWM Recovery does not work unless Voodoo/Lagfix is disabled.
- This ROM is giving me too many grieves.... I am suggesting going back to BUJP8 if you want a stable release.
- V4 has been stable so far for 6 hours, it is not a nightmere as it was before.

Doc has them there and things that comes with all the SGS I tend to keep them there just in case. I think that app is for remote wiping (don't know how it works tho).
This new ROM here is very picky, unlike previous ROMs.. I have spent 2 nights of trial and error to get them to work.
flashed this rom and I have to say the gps is working flawlessly on my phone. Good stuff
Looks good, are GPS fixes incorporated (JM9, Epic files, etc..)?
OP kinda confused me. Is the Rom based on jk4 or just the modem? I know it says ported from Doc's jpu Rom but right underneath it says based on jk4. Also, does the home haptic feedback work?

I'm thinking it's related to overclocking as the chef chose to go with xcaliburinhands kernel which doesn't support overclocking.
Just a thought.

[PATCH][CM7.x][STOCK] F&A GPS+Sensors PATCH | 25.04.12

A few words
Most (if not all) GPS patches for Galaxy ACE I came across here on XDA were created to provide faster GPS Lock. Others tried to replace CM7.x hw libraries (sensors) with ones from stock roms. That example is lagloose's patch which actually works really nice and a great idea indeed to have stock sensor libraries in a CM7.x rom. As a perfectionist, I wanted to take that idea and push it further. You see, the thing is not only having a fast GPS lock but have better reception and accuracy, i.e strong signal even when weather conditions are bad, or a gps lock indoors and close to a window. I did lot's of searching, mostly on Samsung Galaxy S2 threads here and elsewhere. Some configurations worked, others didn't and one worked really nice for our beloved ACE. I present to you, probably the best GPS patch for ACE (so far)!
What is F&A GPS+Sensors patch?
F&A refers to "Fast" and "Accurate". So not only you'll get a very fast lock but also better reception and accuracy. The GPS part can be used on both CM7.x and STOCK ROMS. The sensors part targets only CM7.x roms and replaces all hw libraries (sensors) in system\lib\hw with the ones from Samsung XXKPT Stock Rom. Most credits for all this should probably go to lagloose as he is the one that actually posted a patch like this in the first place. I just took the opportunity to take that patch to another level, if you allow me to say so, by changing completely the gps.conf file. The zip attached below is actually lagloose's zip which has been modified by me. Kept his signature and all. I am just the modder
How the patch works?
-- it installs 'gpsd' in system\bin (just like stock roms)
-- it installs a modded gps.conf in system\etc, different than the one lagloose provided, that needs to be edited by you
-- it wipes your data\gps directory to remove old xtra.bin files
-- it completely replaces the libs in system\lib\hw with libs from Samsung XXKPT Stock Rom. Sources updated by me.
Notice
Always backup your system before flashing anything, including this patch. Let me know how it work out for you! This patch was tested both with GPSTest Plus + Ndrive, Mireo Navigators and worked perfect!
Installation procedure for CM7.x users
-- Place the attached zip file on your sd-card
-- Reboot into CWM5, mount system then flash it
-- Reboot phone
-- Finalize procedure as described in 2nd post
-- Done!
Installation procedure for STOCK ROM users
-- You must be rooted
-- Place gps.conf file on your sd-card
-- Open root explorer, copy that file and paste it to system\etc. It will overwrite old file and create a backup for that.
-- Do procedure as described in 2nd post
-- Set permissions to new file to rw-r--r-- and reboot
-- Once all above completed use GPS Test to clear AGPS and update AGPS
-- Done!
Installation procedure for MIRACLE V3 users
Either of two procedures above should work the same. Choose what is easier for you. The only thing changed from patch already included in MIRACLE V3 is the gps.conf file in system\etc
Credits
lagloose for firstly having this wonderul idea

Finalising gps.conf file
1. Change COUNTRY and REGION with yours according to this link
2. If the above link provides less servers for you, only country servers or region servers, modify the file respectively and delete extra lines
3. If you know other ntp servers besides the above link for your country, you can add them before the ones that are seen on the following picture. The more servers you provide, the better as some of them sometimes might be off. I have included my personal gps.conf file as an example.
Here's my gps.conf file. Locking and accuracy is beyond expectations

Sorry mod, my bad..will upload links tonight. Thanks for not deleting!
Good news. Because navigation is the most important feature for me. And it doesn't lock GPS about 5 minutes (Outdoors) and really gets me angry sometimes.
Thank you. I am waiting...

I Am In Need of a dev to teach me a couple things as well. IF SOMEONE COULD HELP ME WITH THIS ROM THAT WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

This thread is to provide the solution for Google play store download error - 921.
Today I got the error while downloading the apps from Google Play Store. The error message is
'Error - Update for "xxxxx" could not be downloaded due to an error. (921)'
I've searched the forum and found some useful information. Because the thread was belonging to different phone, I wanted to post the information with some more details.
If you see the same error, then follow the steps -
1. Menu > Settings > Personal > Accounts and sync > click on your google account (email)
2. click 'Remove account'. Don't worry, it's not deleting your physical account. Account related information is still saved in Google.
3. Launch Google Play Store again
4. When asked, use existing account to create the google account.
5. Provide your existing google account information (email & password)
6. try again to download
Based on my experience, whenever I got the 921 error, cleaning cache and data for google play store app does not work.
Another work around is creating a second google account. But I believe many people do not want to maintain multiple account on one phone.

Did you make sure to ask the devs first? This looks nice, but how does it differ from AOKP besides the fact that its built on ICS Source?

Good luck!
Sorry guys I got it built yesterday then got distracted I'll see if I can't get it booting this morning
*it looks like my problems are early in init I get a boot USB comes alive but adb never kicks it reboots first so I need to investigate ramdisk.
ramdisk seems fine it may be a problem with my custom package I'm stealing the cm10.2 build changes and going to try running make otapackage that way maybe it's a permissions issue
*ok been looking around and aparantly everyone is using the r1 branch because the r2.1 branch and the dev branches don't quite work lol I'm destroying this repo and syncing again
*FINALLY I got the aosp build system replaced with something a bit more practical and I have a build with a compiled flashable zip woohoo still only a partial boot but it's going faster
*arghhhh I put cm10.2 together in it's super duper early state and didn't get any life out of it either I'm off to bed

Hello
I'm Italian, I installed your Rom is I had no problems installing and booting.
the wifi works well, the GPS satellites located (I have not yet done so to make the fix), the Rom is very fast and responsive (ok that has few apk installed).
Unfortunately, the 3g does not work, does not view the SIM, my provider is TIM (Telecom Italy Mobile)
Congratulations for the great work anyway.
