I've been running cm since back in the g1 days, a few months back my wifi broke and I figured it was something that needed to be worked out so I didn't think anything of it. Well it still won't turn on, I'll try and turn it on but about 20 seconds later it turns itself off. Whenever it first started acting up my phone would just bootloop forever. I've tried everything I can think of with nothing working. Can someone please help?!

Did the WiFi seem to break when you flashed a new ROM, or did it seemingly break out of nowhere?
Honestly sounds like a hardware issue if its existing on different ROMs, kernels, radios, etc...
Seemed to break when I installed a new rom, not for sure though. I've tried different roms, kernels, radio's, superwipe...

I noticed on my phone this week. The phone would "see" the available networks but say that they were not in range and never connect. I am on CM7 and have never had an issue like this before. I just flashed the latest nightly and everything is back to normal. If you have flashed several ROM's and radio's I am also inclined to believe that it is perhaps a hardware issue.
hi.
i have the same problem.
used cm7.1
wifi worked about a day.
then it didn't start.
when i start wifi it gives an error.
and come a window with force close and wait for response.
tried several roms. used superwipe2 and superwipe2+
but nothing.
its not starting. sometimes it starts but not scanning anything.
then gives the same error.
help pls.

Anyone noticing random crashes with the g2 cm7? Atleast once a week when I take it out of my pocket it doesn't power on and requires a battery pull to turn it on. (No lights, nothing)
Battery voltage issue?
Different people have been having different issues. What nightly/RC are you on? did you do a full data/cache/dalvik wipe before flashing the ROM? did you try fixing permissions?
Yup, I know there are some issues but it seems strange that the whole phone goes into a stale state which requires a battery pull. I believe its happened once or twice with cm6 as well.
I have done all the wipes and fixes etc. I am right now on nightly #15, I previously was on nightly #7 for a long time so maybe it was just that release. Thanks for your reply.
Haven't had one random reboot. Still using nightly 6. My mytouch4g has not had this problem either.

Today it died while charging, dead and needed a battery pull. Any ideas?
You're not the only one with this issue (myself included), and the cause is not yet known. And it seems there may be a couple different variations of this issue with the same symptom (of the phone powering off while asleep and needing a battery pull to power back on). May be related to overclock, GPS, screen-off profiles, full moon, or who knows what. See this thread for some various thoughts on the problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908095
I personally think its a kernel issue, or that the kernel is at least one of the factors. I flashed pershoot's kernel and the problem seems to be solved, so far (keeping my fingers crossed). Having the GPS on while you turn of the screen also seems to be a common trigger for many who experience this problem.
Hi there,
Thank you so much for your reply! I couldn't seem to find any information on the forum.
I just wrote a post because I had the same thing happen to me. Phone just went dead for ni reason and I had to pull out the battery. But my phone isn't rooted. So it might not be because of CM7.
Tried to call Bell, but the wait time was too long. So will try to call them when I get home.

There are at least two other threads about this on XDA and quite a few others on the net.
Google HTC phone freeze random crash reboot battery pull or some combo.
No solutions and it happens on stock phones as well as rooted.
Did you search?
Having the same problem recently on my unlocked Desire Z from Bell, using on the Rogers network. It started yesterday and all of a sudden it turns off, and the only way to turn it on is removing the battery and putting it back in. This never was an issue for months. The only thing I updated from that affects the hardware is the new Google Maps, so I think GPS may be the case. But I really need GPS on my phone...
Yesterday I did an experiment with GPS. For me GPS is the case that makes my phone to freeze. With new Google maps it freezes even faster, more often.

I have had a half a dozen totally stock mytouch 4gs that will run perfectly fine but about 4-6 times a day I will pull the phone out of my pocket and it will be totally unresponsive to the power and trackpad buttons. No led no button lights or anything. To get it back to normal I have to pull the battery and reboot. I just loaded virtuous fusion 1.0.6 and the problem persists.
I've tried factory resets, formatting the sd card, new sim card, turning off screen animations, clocking the cpu higher when the screen is off, and running with no apps and no google account set and none of that has helped. The only common thing between all the phones is my number and google account and it still happened after a factory reset without signing into google.
Has anyone else had this issue? Am I just extremely unlucky?
I just loaded loaded the 26.08.04.30 radio we'll see if that helps...

At one point I thought that too. I thought "theres no way they sent me SIX dud phones in a row." So I wiped my sd card and did a factory reset without signing into google or anything and loaded no apps and it still did it.
I noticed though that when I pull my sim card out and use it in my other mytouch 4g(which works perfectly fine with that sim) this phone will not show this issue without the sim in it. So I started thinking it might be the radio as I've tried a different sim card and that didn't work.
This is my first day with the new radio so I will report back with my results.
Well that didn't work. It just SODed on me twice in a half an hour.
Should I try flashing the other radios or CM7 or something? I'm wary of flashing too much as I have the dreaded M4G2E emmc serial.

I noticed today that if my phone becomes unresponsive and I plug it in the charging light will come on and I can boot the phone without pulling the battery. It does a full boot too not a fastboot. For some reason though if I do this it will SOD on me way quicker than usual.

I think that is the issue your EMMC. I had this problem with my phone, then one time it happened when I pulled the battery it bootlooped and CWR showed me that lovely error... be careful. Wish we would know if your other phones had the M4G2E as well. My current phone has the other chip and I have never once had the SOD like I did on my old chip.
Ok guys, I know that there are posts about random reboots but it seems non have a solid solution. My Hd2 has started doing these annoying reboots for about a week. I was using Tyweens NexusHD2 2.9 and all of a sudden reboots started. So I switched to Typhoon CM7 3.5.7(currently on phone now). Reboots still occur. So I did Task 29, wiped sd card, plus clean install of Typhoon CM7 3.5.7. Phone still reboots. It actually rebooted during setup. I even changed from Magldr 150/5(suggested) to 200/45 thinking it was memory related. Still rebooting. I have noticed it does it more when WiFi is on. Is there something with the latest Android 2.3.5 and Wifi? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No not at all.
I'm having the exact same problem... but strangely now even when I try older gingerbread builds, it does the same thing. Its only been recently, too... I've had the phone for a while and I don't remember it doing this.
I can have the, same build and same gps libs on my wifes hd2, and hers won't reboot. Mine will.
I even went as far as swapping out my mainboard with another one I had from a cracked screen issue... and that didn't solve the reboots.
I can't figure it out. It must be gingerbread and certain phones. Ive tried 2.3.5, 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 and they all are now rebooting. I don't know why its only been lately, too. The, only thing that solves it for me is running Tytungs NexusHD2 ROM v1.9 Froyo based. I can even add the latest agps fix and don't have any reboots. Only thing I really miss from gingerbread is the DSP bass boost which makes a huge difference for my bluetooth audio via my car.
Remains a frustrating mystery to me.

Rafdroid is a Froyo based ROM - same with the NexusHD2 v1.9g build that I'm using and so far no problems.
But when using any gingerbread (sense or non-sense) / CM7 build, I am getting those random reboots. Sometimes so much to the point where the phone is unusable. Then there are times when I could go hours without any. I thought it was something related to 2.3.5 since that's right around the time things started going strange, but like I noted - I've downgraded to 2.3.4 and 2.3.3 - and the same thing is happening. I used to use Hyperdroid GBX 7 for months without issue... now when I load it, it gives the same result. Same with Hyperdroid GBX v12, Hyperdroid CM7, Typhoon, stock bravo based CM7 Nightlies, AmericanAndroid, NexusHD2 Gingerbread version or anything Gingerbread based - period.
It also seems coincidental that the reboots started right around the time when Tmobile issued a bulletin asking for user input about recent unusual high battery draining with mobile data. I really haven't followed up and I don't know if it was determined what was causing it for some users but I am thinking maybe it could be possibly related. I can't explain why my wife's phone can run the exact same ROM and not experience the same thing yet mine does. It seems like an isolated issue - I don't see a lot of people complaining about the same issue lately. Maybe it has something to do with a specific mainboard revision/manufacturing date and some kind of over sensitivity to mobile data power output or something. As I noted in the prior post, I did switch out the mainboard with another one that I had laying around. I did take note of the revision manufacturing date stamped on the board, and they were identical. And both experience the identical problem. My wife's HD2 was bought 3rd party from a private owner at another time separate from when the 2 HD2's I have on hand were purchased. Perhaps she has a different revision/manufacturing date.
The two mainboards that I am having a problem with have a date of 2010/03/16 - they are both identical.
I would take apart my wife's to check her date and am willing to bet it's something different, but I've had really bad luck picking apart these HD2's the few times that I've done it. I've broken wifi coaxial cables and ripped flex cables. The date is stamped on the bottom of the mainboard.

I am wondering if specific phones that run Gingerbread are experiencing this lately because of this:
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/3544?start=0&tstart=0
Like I noted - perhaps it has something to do with an oversensitivity to 3G mobile data power output, etc.

OK, I can now pretty much confirm my original hypothesis about the mainboard. I have switched it out with one that was manufactured in late 2009 according to the timestamp on the board, and that's eliminated this problem for a while now with Gingerbread entirely.
The exact problem is beyond me, but unfortunately I stick to my guns that it's a hardware issue. Not sure why it would affect Gingerbread so much more than Froyo but my guess would be it has something to so with mobile data power management or something of the sort.
So for those saying that turning 3G off counteracts this rebooting effect, try a good Froyo build to keep your 3G connectivity. The reboots didn't happen nearly as much as they did wile running Gingerbread for me (although I would get 1 or 2 every few days).
Unless you can get your hands on another mainboard... or another phone.
Replacing my HD2 entirely for now wasn't an option for me... it's the only "Android" phone that I can run with the grandfathered 5.99 Tmobile web. Any native Android phone is identified by tmobile from its IEMI and forced to upgrade to a smartphone data plan to work with mobile data. They just happen to allow legacy (less than WP7) Windows Phones work with that old data plan, which is what the HD2 is.

I have done countless searches and tried everything I possibly could to find a solution to my problem and nothing has worked.
When running any 4.4 rom, and I have tried pretty much all of them, I have this wifi issue. The problem is that if I have wifi turned on the phone starts randomly rebooting approximately every 15-20 minutes when the screen is off. I have tried every setting, upgraded and reset my router(dd-wrt) with different settings and a static ip, and tried different apps that are supposed to help with wifi issues.
This does not happen on stock roms and I have zero issues with any other devices on my network. The very limited amount of info any where that I have found with a similar problem all lead to dead ends. This happens regardless of being a fresh install with no apps installed besides gapps. I really just can not think of anything else to try. Please help me with my G2, I really want to like this phone. :crying:
From the complete lack of info I am able to find on this it would seem to be quite a rare problem. But if anyone has any suggestions for me I would really appreciate it.
No suggestions at all?
Mine is doing this too, however not as frequently. Are you using a proxy app? And do you have auto-wifi disconnect on?
It has nothing to do with the router. I'm 99.9% sure it's either a rogue app or a bad install.

No I'm not using any proxy apps or disconnect. It's not an app or bad install as far as I know. Like I have said this has happened with every install of any 4.4 rom that I have tried. Including, PA, CM and Mahdi. When installing any rom I always do a full wipe, cache, data, dalvik and system. Even without out installing anything besides gapps it happens. So I think I can rule out a rogue app or a bad install.
I have reinstalled countless times and it always pops up. On occasion there has been instances where the problem does not start for several hours after a fresh install but invariably the issue does come up and the reboots start again every 15-20 minutes when the screen is off.
I mentioned the router because, although rare, they can cause issues with connecting devices. Most of the problems that I have read about is usually the other way around though. The router crashing with certain devices connecting to them. But I have had zero issues with my router and any other devices but still thinking it could be possible.
I have a 4.2 rom(Energy) installed currently with no issues whatsoever. It is only KItKat that seems to be a problem. I just have no idea what it could be.

Well I took your advice. I wiped everything and did a fresh install, latest PA without gapps. The only thing that I have done is connected it to my wifi. I let it go for about 3 hours and had no reboots. So I installed Banks Core gapps. Again, I let it sit for 3 hours. No reboots. All the while it has been plugged in and charging. As I write this, I just unplugged it from the charger and within 2 minutes had my first reboot. We'll see if they continue.
So now, I wiped and reinstalled PA without gapps. I did not install anything else at all. Turned on wifi and started getting at least 2 reboots per hour without even using the phone at all. When I turned off the wifi it has been running for 10 hours now without any reboots at all. I am at a complete loss as to what could be the problem. Is there anything I can do?

I hate to say it, but I'm at a loss too. Best course of action I can see is for you to return to stock, email LG, and ask for a replacement for a defective device.
I've been noticing this problem increase over the past few months. It started when I used navigation over longer trips like an hour. The phone would all of a sudden stop responding and then just restart. I noticed its really hot when this happens so I figure it's overheating. Recently it even happens on short trips.
I'm using triforce rom 3.1 which uses agat's kernel. I have not noticed any other restart or crashing issues aside from when I use navigation. I find it important to mention that this all occurs even if the phone is not plugged in or charging.
Has anyone else noticed something like this?
I thought about taking it to sprint since i have tep, but I figure they will either just tell me it's my fault since it's a custom rom or just offer to format the phone like they do with every other problem.
Any ideas are appreciated.

I just wanted to follow up and see if anyone had more suggestions or a specific kernel to try. I tried 3 different ones with the following results:
KT-SGS4-JB4.2-TW-SPR-02.20.2014 - No navigation reboots, started rebooting randomly otherwise
AGAT_GS4_v0.5.1 - Still reboots/overheats during navigation
AGAT_GS4_v0.5.2 - Still reboots/overheats during navigation
Stock. I've never had good luck on custom kernels going back to the S2 (the same devs as currently).
Really, my devices have always ran worse and with significant issues, including the one you are describing.
If that's not an option, play with the governor settings, remove any overclock, and try other ROMs.
