cm7.1.0 rc1-speedy sound issue - EVO Shift 4G General

for some odd reason when i select audible touch tones, selections, and screen lock i get no sound. any ideas? by the way, volume is on, up, and not on silent.
i did a full wipe before installation. if this is just a hiccup with this build i'll accept it. its just frustrating not having EVERYTHING working, you know?

Do you get sound when using ringtones or playing media or phone calls? Just want to help narrow it down.
Fully wiping and reflashing (maybe even redownloading in case of corrupt dl) is also a good reccomendation.
Its good to do do a
Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe dalvik Cache
All three times each

yes, i do get sound with ringtones, audible touch tones, and media.
i should reflash, ive been trying different roms all week. finally settled back into cm7. im just beat from all the flashing wiping reflashing, kernel loading etc. i was hoping it was simple, or a bug with the rom.

It shouldn't be a bug but I think 7.1.0 is an older one (havent used cm7 in awhile) you might want to update to one of the newer ones and maybe even stray away from the RC's and use the stables.

7.1 is the latest "stable" rom, at least its listed as such in rom manager. on the cm web site its still listed as "experimental. the next rom down is 7.0.3.1. im happy with 7.1 for radio reasons, i was having a terrible time with the older cm7 7.0, and played around with synergy which i liked, but i like cm7 much better.
i left coding years ago. i spend more time chopping motorcycles than i do operating systems (i cant stand a stock bike just like i cant stand a stock OS). im proficient enough with software to get myself into trouble, and out of trouble with twice as much work.
thanks for the advice.

You really should go on nightly #179, in my experience the nightlies have been generally better and more stable than the so-called stable versions

"Stable" is just a term they use for liability purposes. That way they can put in whatever changes they want in the nightlies to test them out and you can't yell at anyone if the nightly doesn't work for you. So if you update every nightly as they become available you may find some that will give you problems or reboots. But in my practical experiance as someone that does do that I've found that to be few and far between. The nightlies in general are much more stable than any of the "stable" releases. Plus, they've got a couple cool new features, like integrated screnshots via the reboot menu.
I highly recommend #178. You could use #179 like Thronnos said but it doesn't contain any changes different than #178 (the buildbot when working will build a new nightly weather or not any changes have actually been made) but I have kind of a superstitious distrust of #179. No reason, just like #178. Seriously though, stop reading this and flash a nightly already =)
...crap, I hope he is still reading this because I was gonna remind him to make a nandroid first...

haha, thanks, i'll do that tonight. i ALWAYS nandroid every month or so i have to go back and clear out my old backups. its been a lifesaver when trying a new rom or trying to get something working. i know ive got something stable to go back to.
buildbot? enlighten me. how does this work? is it monitored by someone? or does it just spit out a build every night, how does it work?
i thought all the builds were done by someone physically who adds or changes something then uploads it.

The buildbot compiles the peices of the ROM given every night for the developer no matter if changes are made or if everythings there. Thats why there labeled "nightlys"
There to really help developers of big companys and important projects (cyanogenmod)
I might be a little off on that please correct if I am

If you go to Settings-Sounds then there is an audible selections make sure its checked. (I know youve already done this lol just have to make sure)
Also i know cyanogenmod has there own settings. "Advanced settings" i think is what it called. But there are sound settings in there just make sure nothing in there could possibly be overwriting it
Sent from my Epicly Blue Shift!

Odd. I just enabled those 3 sounds and they're all working for me on 178. The dial pad tones do not but the screen lock and screen selection sounds do require your "system" volume to be on. I don't believe there's a way to adjust it in the default menus (probably since it diables the camera sound too) but you can install an app like Sound Manager to adjust it. I'd first check and see if that's turned up and then go through all the settings and see if you've maybe got something else sound related enabled or disabled that'd override those sounds. If you want to try and wipe again and reflash I'd make sure that you also format /system if you didn't.

Did you wipe dalvik, cache and formatted /system and /data? Did you repartition your sd card (back up your SD card and camera pictures before you do this)?
Did you run fix permissions from Clowkwork recovery?
Do you have play sounds/notifications on speaker turned on?

Maybe im off knowledge here lol but the problem seems unrelated to having to partition the sd card? seems like a lot of work for something that (to me) wont work.
Just don't want him to have to backup all his sd card contents and partition if it does not need to be done

i did wipe everything except the sd card. i didnt think it was necessary. i did not fix permissions though.
in all honesty, im not THAT irritated by not having sound on those two options. and yes, i do have system volume up and on.
its a bit annoying, but not a deal breaker. id rather have this than stock sense. it could still be my fault. it could be an issue where i need to just start from scratch, but before i go through all that effort ill stop.
ive spent 6 hours or so working on various issues with the phone. now that i am on a good build with a functioning device (my data was getting weird which is why i finally updated to a later cm7 build) im happy.
i really do have some upcoming projects i HAVE to focus on, that need more attention than this.
thanks again for the help everyone. like i said, if i find the fix or solve it ill post an update.

New "improved" ROM. Anyone try it?

Just saw a tweet from DLife about an improved Froyo 2.2. Anyone try it yet? I'm not sure I want to do a wipe if its not really that much improved.
EDIT: link http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/02/download-new-android-2-2-droid-incredible-build/
EDIT EDIT: My recommendation is that you don't use this build. It lacks the stock wallpapers except for the red swirl. It lacks the stock ringtones, AND I'm not sure it even has Flash 10.1. Some sites don't seem to work now that I installed it and I'm reinstalling the previous 2.2 leak instead of this one.

Im steering clear from it. I have made a stable ROM based off the first leak, used skyraider2, amd used the leak itself, amd there is nothong wrong with the firsf.

So far I agree.... Not worth wiping out everything I've done with the first leak! Unless someone can convince me otherwise.
I do have one question though.... Shouldn't there be some way to update the first leak with a new version in the future without wiping the phone? They should have mostly all the same base right?

+100. I've worked out all the bugs that affect my daily usage: 3g hotspot working, no 0's on my Gmail, still pulling 1250-1300+ on Quadrant, market/browser work beautifully. I'll need to see some solid improvements/benchmarks to make it "worth" switching.
Though for posterity's sake, for those concerned about wiping, since it's a 2.2 -> 2.2, I would think a proper titanium restore would work without much issue, app-wise.
Opposite
I am the opposite ... I see no reason to apply a beta radio and a beta pre-release (even one from yesterday) at this point, especially if its going to be a pain in the butt due to radio reflash and app reinstall. Would just as soon wait in hopes that unrEVOked can root the real OTA. Would MUCH rather go thru the pain and effort (and danger) using VZW's release.
Have you gotten Ti backup to work with 2.2? I had issues. It worked to restore my apps from 2.1, but since switching to 2.2 I could do a backup. I remember there being some issue but not what it was. I haven't tried again since.
As for the upgrade, I'm only using the stock Froyo rom and I've found some bugs in it when using Seesmic and Astro amongst others. I think they need to upgrade for 2.2 compatibility before I upgrade the rom.

Did you do a "Backup all user apps + system data" and then "Restore missing apps + all system data" or did you just do apps? I'm new to best practices of Titanium Backup... Thanks!
I just do app+app data. No system crap...it isn't that hard for me to add the 4 icons and clock to the screen and setup some ringer preferences...even with all that it took me 5 minutes. Some people may have insane screens full of widgets and apps...mines pretty simple. Also I already fixed my build.prop Plus I only have 2 paid apps...titanium and phonemypc and I already pulled the apks from my phone to install manually without the market anyway. So I dunno.

You had to do a lame fix
Damn. I'd have to go back in and remove all of the bloatware, reinstall all of my apps, and everything else. Not sure I'm up for a minor fix.
Just installed it.. I have to say.. its THE BEST ota leak so far. It's far more stable than the first leak... and it seems like it doesn't drain the battery as much..
Most recent ota leak is a nice improvement over first 2.2 leak. And yeah all you guys saying full wipe is painful.... titanium backup is awesome and can have you back from a full wipe with everything restored and intact within minutes. This 2.2 is faster, fixes most of the problems of the first leak (yes market still needs the fix... so what? Easy easy fix....) and imo is very much worth the upgrade. But seriously only once you know how to extract the most from titanium....
I am more than happy to help anyone with advice on titanium usage or whatever.... pm if you have questions or need help

I've got it down to about a half hour doing a Titanium restore. I just use that to restore the apps and the data.
What takes most of the time is getting the screens set up again.
Still seem to have problems with the Market however... intermittent freezing, hangs on "downloading", etc.

Cyanogen 6 on HTC Dream - Things to avoid?

Hey guys,
Just modded my HTC Dream with CM6, and it seems pretty cool.
I read somewhere that you should partition the SD card? Something about ext2 to ext3? Can anyone comment on that?
Also, read that you need to be careful installing themes because it could brick the phone? Does that mean full themes, not just wallpapers?
Anything else I should be cautious of?
Thank you in advance

ext2 is optimal for this application. ext3 will just wear out your card faster. You don't necessarily need an ext partition on the card though -- only if you want to install applications to the sdcard without using that horrible froyo2sd nonsense that google added.
Themes won't brick the phone unless they overwrite things that they most definitely have NO REASON to be overwriting. Having said that, EVERY theme is horribly ugly compared to how it looks without messing with it. JUST LEAVE IT ALONE!

Because it is a memory hog, unstable, and slow. They're trying to please everyone with ever nonsense request, and it really has bloated into a monster. The tmobile magic 32b froyo image (as converted for DREAM) is an excellent 2.2 build, extremely fast and stable. Just tweak to suit.
Hi,
I'm sorry I am brand new to all of this, just yesterday I rooted my g1 (first time) and installed CM6. I like it but it is running a bit slow and I am having a few issues with 3g.
If CM6 isnt all that great, could you link me to a good rom/setup please (preferably with installation instructions)? I was trying to find what is good at this point but for 2 hours now can not figure out which rom to get at this date. Is zx donut v3.0 a good candidate? Its been popping up a lot
p.s. I am getting a g2 in 2 weeks and passing this phone to a friend, wanna give him the best setup possible,
Thanks for your time
Edit -just installed Super F 1.0 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799693, seems to be a lot faster than CM6, op might wanna give it a shot It is definitely not as good looking as CM, also few of CM features that were nice are missing, but it seems to run much better so far!
But if you guys can suggest something better (doesn't have to be froyo) I'd appreciate it
I appreciate your answer. Well, to be honest I am not 100% satisfied with how CM6 runs on my G1/dream. I thought I configured it wrong. I agree with the poster iokke, I'd like to know which setup still runs smooth on the dream. I need a usable and reliable phone. Sure. the features of CM6 are really nice but what price to pay for it?
to the op:
try this rom, it was updatied in October of this year, just installed it, but so far is running fine on my phone, and its froyo + has themes (you can find them from the installation page link)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745478
A cool thing about these ROM (given that I am a noob) - my g1 seems to be running on the H network now without me having to do anything
Another mod worth looking at, that I have not tried so far, also updated last month is the Sparksmod 1.4, you can find it here:

Not sure which one of the two is faster, though I read somewhere that the Sparksmod is the faster one. This is also froyo, but havent tried this one yet

The H icon is a cosmetic tweak, that was put into CM6 or 6.1 onwards, your phone has been accessing the same speeds before, it just wasn't doing the icon change when it went to the higher speeds.
I have always had trouble and lagginess with 2.2 on my G1, even after a full system wipe, so I'm rockin 5.0.8 at the moment, and it flies. I just miss custom LED notifications, though I have yet to try the official TMO 2.2.
If you make nandroid backups from recovery, you should have no fear if you want to mess around with different roms or flashing themes .
Thanks, time to go read nandroid backup for noobs))
One question, with Danger SPL installed for Froyo ROMs, can I go back to donut ROMs and simply flash them, or should I remove it somehow??

I'm pretty sure you won't have to change the SPL anymore except for very special roms. Just make sure you do a full wipe from recovery after a backup, for new roms to ensure that there aren't any lingering problems.
I have been really enjoying EZTerrys new kernel with biffmod. fast. seems to be stable. LOTS of features (Overclock added =]). i was restarting my phone 3 times a day on CM6 and now once in the morning is ok for the whole day. also, when i used super F, the camera didnt work.

Ty, I'm flashing Froyo 2.2.1 for T-Mobile G1 " Froyo for Trout right now to see how it goes, but I will also try the EZ Terry

Best way ro go from Cherryblur back to Beta4

Can I just reinstall from zip the 2.3.4 beta 4 if I'm not liking cherryblur?
Yep.. I've flipped back and forth several times. Just make sure you are using CWM to flash.

I wipe before and after especially since I soft bricked..... I share your pain. LOL Switched back from CherryBlur to Beta 4. For some reason the new market only allows me to download larger files on WiFi. The other issue was battery drain by the minute which I read there was a fix for. I'm happy right now, got everything all setup the way I like it. Kudos to all who help around here. I am feeling like less of a NooB LOL.

Did you set up the Data control thing at the beginning of setup? I Clicked the checkbox on that while hurrying through and then realized wifi was needed for the Market...

CLOSED TEST - (no longer Looking) for Beta Testers with ICS Experience - BETA CLOSED!

I am closing the beta for the time being, have a handful of testers atm. It may open up again, stay tuned.
You know the name of the game. Experienced ICS users only please.
I have been putting together a frankenstein type ICS build, blending some tweaks with:
-Beta 2.5.1 i9000
-Beta2 by goodoane
-ICS_4.0.1_r1-Beta2-i9000.zip by onecosmic
-Recommended using the FuguMod_Vibrant_Kernel_BETA2.zip from here: http://code.google.com/p/ice-cream-...mmary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCount (the kernel is included in the zip)
-Also recommend the KB5 modem, from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19795419&postcount=130 (this is also included in the zip, but its not flashing with the rom as of right now)
This has some framework, build.pop, and ui tweaks applied, but I've pulled back on the theming to direct my attentions to functionality.
-Keymapping is corrected
-Can mount via MTP mode
-Moutning works in recovery
-ADB and Shell both work
-SU out of the box
-Lockscreen rotates and screen rotates 360 degrees
Not working:
Must toggle mute (on then off) in order to be heard by incoming callers
GPS
Video Recording
Video Playback (buggy)
You tell me what else to add here.
Installation: (coming from another ICS build, or CM7 only!!)
-Reboot to recovery, perform a factory reset
-Go to mounts and storage and format system
-Flash the Beta2 Kernel (FuguMod_Vibrant_Kernel_BETA2.zip)
-Flash the rom
-Flash your modem (no longer need to reflash the kernel)
-Fix permissions
-Reboot the phone
New Info
As you guys have read, I have been running the data data tweak from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20017090&postcount=1756 and it seems to have made things a lot more stable. No odd application issues going on anymore, although there is a bit more lag, but I think I have found a temp fix for that.
Since Friday night I have been running AutoKill Memory Optimizer, free version from the market. Its not a task killer really, but it maintains the amount of free system memory on your device, from what I understand. I am using Aggressive settings, with the Advanced settings for Memory and Battery enabled, and my phone is flying!
If you guys want, give that a shot, and let me know your results.
*******************************
So, who wants to test?
First, you promise not to release this or share it with anyone, by signing up you agree to this one term.
You should have experience with ICS, and know how to flash it and recover from a bad flash.
If you've never flashed ICS before, you definitely want to start there.
I am looking to possibly release this to the wild by the end of the week, so active testers are a big plus!
When I feel like I have enough testerss I will post that on the top of this post, just ask in here, and I will pm you a link.
I'll test, running ICS now.. I know how to do a little above basic stuff.

can you fix the problem with (i guess all ICS) people not hearing me right?
sometimes they hear me ok, sometimes too loud, or not at all.
i''ve tried to hold and resume but it doesn't fix the issue every time.
this should be a top priority for any rom.
i returned to your zen froyo. it is nice and battery holds 4-5 days for me.
thank you.

Toggling mute fixes it for me every time. I do plan on looking into that, but I'm not there quite yet.
So, no new takers?
I'll test it out... I've been on the i9000 ICS ROM for about 2 weeks now.
Link sent, thx
Ok, I'll Bite. Have experience with everything you stated above. Am currently using the Passion V5 Beta and a lot to like but still a work in progress. Let me know if I can help.
Been running it for about 30 mins, nothing to report so far. Not a big fan of the green theme though, but I will still continue to test.

Lol, green is my color. I personally don't like the blue. Hopefully very soon all the blue will be eradicated.

Followed instructions to the T. After flashing rom, then reflashing kernel, and fixing permissions I go to reboot system now, and it keeps me in Recovery. Will keep trying and let you know. Any thing you want me to try? Could it be because I have Gingerbread bootloader?

What rom were you coming from? This should run with both bootloaders, but I'm on the stock bootloaders, so that might be it. Also, you should be coming from either CM7 or another ICS rom.
Maybe try redownloading the file and reflashing.
I can test for you

I'm currently in no position to be testing roms right now but I want you to know that I'm super excited knowing that you're working on ics. ****ing loved Zendroid, used it for a long time and its still my go to rom when I crave something that just works.
Ah... yes please...
I'd like to test it also. Will report issues.

I would be happy to test it out of u are still looking. I have been on ics since the alpha builds and all of the passion series by Neo.
Thanks

I would be glad to help with testing with one caveat. I need either USB tethering or wifi hotspot to be working. I use that quite frequently and would not be able to keep the ROM installed without it.

Sure makes flashing custom roms much less a pain in the ass. Also this 1 click root tool works flawlessly on a fresh install of gb. http://www.psouza4.com/Bionic/
Checked out the latest MIUI rom for the d2, found it over at rootzwiki. Can't say i was all that impressed by it. Seems to me to be a bad iphone wanna be rom. I gave it about a day and flashed back to froyo. Tried to flash cyanogens latest 139 build but it didn't wanna happen, so i just returned my phone to froyo.
Kinda sucks working with custom roms on the d2, due to the locked bootloader.

13th angel is working on CyanogenMod 9 [BETA] (D2) it is getting close depends on what you need to work
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-roms/199227-cyanogenmod-9-beta-d2.html
I tried miui 2.2.10 and it just seemed to be way to buggy for me. No keyboard lights, i know there's a fix for that. But still its something so small it makes me wonder what else didn't work. The camera seemed to work correctly. It just seemed like it was a FC nightmare. Apps either were slow to open or didn't open at all. And i'm talking about simple things like the dialer.
I do still intend to install Cyanogen just to check it out.
2.2.10 is running without issue for me. The keyboard lights thing is minor, so if that turns you off of a a Rom I'd say it's likely nothing will please you because CM has issues of its own. Regardless, both are great Roms with tons of options you won't get from stock.. Considering how laggy and buggy stock GB is I'm not sure what there is to complain about, but to each his own.
2.2.10 is running great for me to. Tried CM9 and it runs well but no camera is a drawback.
Yeah i decided to give miui (2.2.10) another try and yes it seems to be pretty solid. I was surprised to see pretty much 99% of my froyo apps work as is, without upgrading. The ones that didn't i simply upgraded and they work. What i think happened before was i just didn't get a clean install for whatever reason and it made things super glitchy. Like i said the dailer barely worked at all in the last install, but on this one i haven't had it fc yet so im thinking it was a install problem. Other things also work that didn't before like volume+. Its a nice rom once you tailor it to you're liking. All in all i get around the same battery life as i did with froyo. Which is around 2 and a half hours gaming, 10 hours normal use. I used to use green power and that would increase my battery standby to like 15-16 hours. Anyone know of any tips with miui? People have reported getting like 40 hours? I realize not all batteries are created equal obviously but whats the average you guys are seeing?
Extended battery--real Moto, not seidio or any of those--leaves me around 60% battery at the end of every day. I turn syncing off with power control, use auto brightness which is way better on MIUI than it ever was on Froyo or GB, and get rid of any apps that decide that they can run as often as they like.
