Ice Cream Sandwich [FAQ] - XPERIA X8 General

Let us start the discussion of the next big thing.
So what is it going to be named 4.0 or 2.4?
What new features can we expect?
Is it going to be revolutionary or evolutionary?
Do you think our X8's can support it?
Will Ice Cream Sandwich bring in new stock apps (more colourful and better eg music player)?

TRUE

I´ver read somewhere that ICS doesn´t support hardware buttons anymore.....I hope this won´t be true, because I like touchscreens, but there should also be some hardware buttons.
And if I have such buttons, I also want to use them!
And I also think it will be 4.0.

Ya that a option you can turn it off and on like a apk hard keys on or off as you want
super.sense on x8

I have ICS Launcher
Search google for it

Google's ice cream sandwich will launch with the nexus prime on ice cream sandwich 4.0.0, since this phone is always the launch phone of the new google o.s. expect the next generation of nexus to launch with the jelly bean android 5.x.x. x8 will not get a full ice cream sandwich as it uses alot of processing power for thing's such as "face detection" in the camera. we may get a "fake" version with the lack of such things using processing power. maybe we look forward to DX putting some cool stuff in for it.

ICS will use same as Gingerbread, and it will be even more optimized. It will get hardware acceleration (finally) like iOS. Also that is not legit ICS launcher. It's just made by some leaked screenshoots.

idk about you guys, but personally i am really thankful that we have great engineers at goog working their asses off. they never stop trying to improve on perfection.
cheers.
battery icon recustomized back into htc icon and not in gingerbread icon? funny.
An SE phone using an HTC icon, with Android 2.4 & a 2.2 kernel. Talk about a mish-mash lol
It is the real thing though. the artice is published by a dutch tech site:
tweakers.net/reviews/1944/ces-hands-on-android-24-gingerbread-reloaded.html
The standman actually put the wrong handset into their hands. so they pulled a quick review on it. they confirmed 2.4 ran faster than 2.3 on the same handset also there is some new animations available.
just use google translate on the link above and you can read it a bit..
There's nothing special, if you familiar with software development, bump to next vision is the first thing must to be done after a major version released. so the head branch must be 2.4.

Why? Just because you've never heard of it before?
Remember how quickly Eclair 2.1 came out after Eclair 2.0?
How about giving us 2.3 first before teasing with 2.4?

Here's another video of the Arc, it shows it as having 2.3 and the notification bar is more consistent with that:

No...because its on a Sony phone
their flagship the X10 isnt even getting froyo, i doubt they would get 2.4 first
also. 2.4 with the 32.9 kernel. not likely, it will most likely have at least 34.x kernel. i mean AOSP is up to 35.7 kernel

will Xperia Play Support Android 4.0?

is Xperia Play will support Android 4.0 with the current Hardware specs?
Well no one knows what those hardware specs are so we don't know for sure but considering the fact that the Nexus S will get 4.0 then the Xperia Play seems very qualified.
Well On some event, probably google sth.. There was board with devices, where XP was, and board ttile was saying android 4.0 or sth like that.
Isnt it supposed to be 2.4 ice cream sandwich?

Given that Honeycomb is numbered 3.X and ICS is supposed to encompass phones and tablets alike, it would make little sense to give ICS a 2.4 version number.

Although this is not proof. The phone between the HTC EVO and Droid2 does not seem like it will get Android 4.0 to tell you the truth the Evo and the Droid2 don't seem like they are getting Android 4.0 either so why would the Xperia Play?
Again who knows Sony is doing a good job at updates and remember google said about that program where all current devices will get updates for a certain number of months.
Ice cream sandwich is supposed to run on new and older phones, not just top of the line dual core phones. So most likely yes we will get a version eventually.
well all phones on the image got >= 1Ghz so i dont see a problem with the Xperia play not getting the update
I'm sure there will be costum roms based on vanilla ice cream.

The closer and closer we get to the Unpacked event we get to see their sweets. Either way the UI is nice and I hope they changed the media player and Music
I found this about a half hour ago, saying that and Samsung are going to postpone http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...d-Google-cancel-Nexus-Prime-phone-launch.html unpacked.
Saw the video and I really really like the UI a lot!! Hopefully the prime will go to tmobile in December or even January, hope it does.... I prefer this because it will be the latest and the greatest smartphone with its non-capacitive button design and latest OS..
if that's real, it looks alright. though, i'm surprised at kernel 3.0.1. the switch to 3.0 was just over two months ago, so it would surprise me to see it on android already (considering Ubuntu is still on 2.6.38 and Fedora is using 2.6.40, i would think the full linux distros would be changing the kernel version to 3.0 before android).
Hopefully with Google improving Androids UI, less manufacturers would mess with it.
^^ the manufacturers will always have their own signature of android launcher to differentiate their devices from the rest.. I don't mind it at all as long as they make the UI better and add useful functionality into it..
Is ICS gonna be 2.4 or 4.0?
I just wish that manufacturers would make their launcher work like any other third party launcher instead of integrating it like they do.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If it's a straight Google phone, won't the launcher be ICS stock?
Just something I noticed. Where is the "battery use "in the settings?

I think the fonts are better than current Android versions, but I'm not that impressed.
It's still asking for OEMs to molest it, as well, which is unfortunate.
Not enthused.

As we explained yesterday, now that the Ice Cream Sandwich SDK has been released, we're about to see a deluge of SDK-based ROM ports. We're not going to cover them all here, but will will cover the first to come out of the Android Central Forums. Beezy's been hard at work, and you'll soon be able to enjoy the fruits of his SDK labor on the Nexus S 4G. Things are very much still a work in progress, but you'll soon be able to be the first on your block to say you have some form of ICS on your phone.

So glad I switched to the Nexus S 4g on launch day. We'll have ICS before years end and my old phone (Epic 4g) still sadly sits on Froyo officially. With endless hallow promises from Samsung about an official Gingerbread build. Never ever again will I buy a carrier/manufacture supported phone. The devs with this phone have been incredible and so has the phone. Same goes for the other Nexus S (non 4g) devs.

Samsung Galaxy S2 to get Official ICS in March – OTA Update
Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 operating system are the now more than 70 days old and still there is no major mobile phone out with Android 4.0 by default or there is no phone with Android 4.0 upgrade readily available. Yesterday, it was HTC who announced at their Facebook page that they will be updating HTC Sensation line of phone with Ice Cream Sandwich in March end. Today it turned out to be Samsung’s turn as they have announced that their best selling Galaxy S II will receive Ice Cream Sandwich update on March 1, 2012 which is the concluding day of Mobile World Congress. The Android 4.0 update of Galaxy S II has no connection with MWC either.
