Hi All,
Today I went to my local 3 store to test my O2 Xda Exec/Jasjar (universal) with a 3 simcard. This is what I discovered.
The 3services settings allows you only to access planet3. 3netaccess Settings is to be able to surf the net on your phone. You will have to manually switch beween the settings depending on what you want to do.
Question to you all out there...... has anybody worked out how to get video streaming with 3 ? When it came to accessing Mobile TV, I could not get it to work, I got a message "your device is not supported for this service". This was the case for all video streaming on planet3. I was only able to view text stuff.
My initial thought about it is that there are file format issues, remebering that 3 offer no phones which are windows based? I am thinking to try it again using pocketTV software. I use this at the moment instead of crappy windows media player.
So has anybody resolved the streaming issue?

guinevere,
I am using Three Australia as well and like yourself would like to be able to view Three content. I have posted on several forums and the only thing constructive I have found out is apparently a certificate is required on the device to access Three video content. I have also been told that Three are planning on releasing a WM based device in the near future which may help our cause. Any information you could find would be great news to a lot of people who use Three in Australia.
Hi Shane, great to hear from you.
Thats interesting I have not heard that yet, but it hmakes sense. I Dont have a 3 sim yet, still in research stage, thinking of getting one anyway till I fnd a better option.
Perhaps we could use this thread to collect info for Universal use with australian networks as there is not much happening at the aussie3g forum for us.
Do you have any info about using universal on optus, vodaphone or telstra, I have not tested there sims yet.
Also shane, have you got MMS working?
Guinevere,
I don't use MMS so I can't comment on whether it works or not, but a lot of people seem to be posting that it has issues. An interesting sideline I was told by my Corporate Rep from Three is that a senior Three official in Australia has taken a shine to the Universal and is using it rather than a Three handset - so maybe some development might soon follow!
Like yourself, Three support don't want to know anything as soon as they hear that we are not using a Three handset.
I think it's a great idea to use this forum as a meeting place for Aussie Three users with WM devices.
None of my colleagues or customers at present have gone 3G but I have a customer who is looking to join the Telstra network. The customer has been told that Video content will work OK on the Jasjar from Telstra. (As yet the device has not been approved officially for use on the Telstra network -unbelievable I know!).
I will post updates once I find out anything new.
Shane
Hi shane any news?
I have since got myself a 3 sim.....so far i am enjoyin it, just using it for basic things like reading tex news and other text stuff offered on planet3, also its good now with there My3 section where you can view your usage. I know also use it to check my pop3 email for when I am not in the office.
the only things still not functioning is the MMS and video streaming....which I have made up by converting all my favorite film clips and movies into divx's to play on my Exec
Thus far MMS and Video Streaming does not work on XDA Exec. Which is kind of silly since our phones are like 6 billion times better than what is in those 3 shops.

Telstra MMS Settings
I know this is an old thread, but some people may still be after the Telstra MMS Configuration for the Universal.
Under Connections, you need to rename "My Work" Network as Telstra MMS, and set up a new modem connection:
Enter Name of Connection as "Telstra.MMS" and select Cellular Line (GPRS,3G) for the modem. The access point is "telstra.mms.mnc001.mcc505.gprs". Leave username etc blank.
Next, open your inbox (messaging) and click on Menu/Tools/Options. Click on MMS to retrieve the MMS Configuration. On the preferences tab check "Retrieve Messages Immediately", "OK to download when roaming", and "Save sent messages" as you prefer with all other boxes blank.
Click the "Servers" tab. If you don't have Telstra there already, click on New. The Server Name should be Telstra, the Gateway is 10.1.1.155, and the port number 9201. Enter the server address as "http://mmsc.telstra.com:8002", and select "Telstra MMS" under Connect Via. Click OK until you are back to the Today Screen.
That works for my Jasjar on Telstra. Hope this helps somebody.
I know this has been discussed in other threads, but I wanted to start it here, since all other threads are bombered with "i want the htc touch weather applet"... and explanation on how to add cities.
This thread is to discuss any findings about why T-Mobile USA (and some UK) customers can never get updates via GPRS/Edge.
Almost a perfect device, but always these small annoying issues that SHOULD work, but never do.

I wanted to open a thread about this. This is a weird problem. One thing we know is not about the ports. This is really weird but my weather has updated twice over GPRS. I never noticed when it does it. Any proffesional help is appreciated.
I think this thread needs to go somewhere else because it is something general.
I am also seeing the same issues with T-Mobile USA. I am able to load Cities when I am connected to a PC or via Wifi, but not over Edge.
Weird
I was out on vacation the whole week and the weirdest thing happened. It updated my forecast. Just once, and didn't do it since. I wonder if it's tower/location specific. And yes, I have update when roaming enabled.
I am having the same exact problem, it updates when I active snyc, but not over GPRS- and I am on Tmobile also.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this yet? It would make this app so much better being able to receive weather updates on the go via gprs/edge. I am having the same issue on tmobile, only able to update weather via active sync or wifi.

not yet. someone please contact the pda department and ask them to investigate further, although I think they wont do anything since the htc home plug is not meant for use with tmobile usa.
I just called T-Mobile's PDA support. They ran some diagnostics and told me that everything is fine on their end.
They said that if we can browse the web then we must be able to update the weather plugin.
One thing I did notice is that if I open the following link from my PDA it gets all the information:
http://htc.accuweather.com/widget/htc/forecast-data_v3.asp?ac=TR2cra9U&locCode=NAM|US|NY|NEW%20YORK
This link is what the weather plugin uses.
My touch is from the UK and in Canada the phone always shows roaming. As such what I have found is that I need to have BOTH "auto download" AND "roaming downloads" enabled to causes the plugin to "automatically" refresh the data.
The refresh does not happen as you would think howerver ( ie, in the background ) but rather when you switch to the weather display. If the last download was older than a preset age, it will download the latest weather conditions.
With roaming downloads or auto download disabled I have to force a download (ie refresh weather data) by manually clicking on the elapse time displayed next to the city name.
Where do I configure HTC Weather to use a proxy?
This problem reminds me of the days when everyone besides T-Mo users could access Google results pages. I think the consensus was that there was some incompatibility with MTU settings. It could be that this is the case here too.
Just found a fix here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187
Step 1 worked for me...! Weather now updating via GPRS/EDGE
EDIT: I just unistalled the HTC Home cab and only copied across the HTC Home dll and it works as well. No need to run the host software.
Are you really using T-Mobile's proxy connection for this?

Nope, blackberry plan. Shouldn't technically matter though, if you're using the proxy you could point to the guys server via pocket hosts.
Cheers,
Robbie.
I'm still not able to get this to work. I think there are 2 things going on here for those which require T-Mo's proxy. First, is the T-Mo network problem in general that you seem to have been able to get around, and secondly, forcing the app to use T-Mobile's proxy, b/c all traffic must use that to use the wap APN.
Which servers are you using to get this to work over the internet APN?
make sure your apn says: wap.voicestream.com

Hello guys,
Last week I have purchased on eBay what is for me the most awaited phone of all time . It was pretty expensive and I also had to pay another 120€ to the customs, but I don't regret it...
I am still getting used to the mobile & Android, but I would like to make 2 questions:
1- My 3g isn't working, GSM calls + SMS are working fine, but I cannot access any data, do I have to update any APN details ? (and how).
2- I am only offered two options regarding the phone language, En and Spanish, which is fine, but is there anyway I could add Portuguese as input language?
That's it for now, thanks in advance for any replies.
The thing is that when I browse Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access point names, I don't have any listed and neither I have an option to add a new APN ...
Ok, I have downloaded an APP from the market called APN Portugal that auto configured the APN details of my carrier (Optimus). Now I would like to know if it is possible to add a phone language/new input languages (keyboard) ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
How did you unlock it? Has it been activated in the US with a Verizon plan before being shipped to Portugal?
Thanks

Yes, it was unlocked by the eBay seller using a code provided by Verizon.
@elmemyself: thanks for sharing your experience. Are you able to send/receive MMS in Portugal?
Hello fpont1,
I am able to receive MMS, but not to send them ... I get a msg saying that the service isn't activated with the Network.

Hi man. In the APN screen beside your APN name, is there an icon showing a small lock with a question mark inside?
Hey guys,
Dell have posted Connection Settings app in the marketplace. You can search for this ONLY using the phone's marketplace. Does not come up in Zune marketplace for some reason
seems to allow you to change MMS settings but it does not work for me.
I've also posted in the Dev & Hacking forum
dell releasing an exclusive app for its phones
wow thats a change
how useful is it?

That seems to be the case for all carrier and OEM specific apps.
Is it under 'tools'?
The app installed and works for me, but all the settings show as blank. So what should our settings be for the DVP on T-Mo USA?
Go to Marketplace and touch the search button on your phone. In Marketplace Search, search for "connection settings."
This looks like an app for international (non-US) markets for tweaking MMS settings. In fact, MMS Settings is the only screen. It doesn't allow for other settings like Wi-Fi (I tried swiping sideways, but nothing happened).

thats a good sign for those in the uk cause alot of sites are reporting its going to be on sale there next week sometime
I disassembled the code and it doesn't have anything fancy and no other pages other than what we see. Uses the same EM COM wrapper API to write the settings.
what is settings for t-mobile MMS?
Dang notebookgrail are you sure? no other exploits you can find? =(
I don't have a DVP and so am not sure what settings are available to tweak, but here are settings that worked with a stock TMOUS HD2:
IP address: 216.155.165.50
Port: 8080
Server address: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
Size limit: 1024 KB
WAP version: WAP 2.0
UAProfile: http://www.htcmms.com.tw/gen/Leo-1.5.xml
UserAgent: T-Mobile_LEO

Yep..unfortunately. The EM one has the same and much more info.
Does anyone know of anyone who can issue a AT command to reset the phone modem?
I even unlocked all the GSM bands on this DVP. But, i can't unlock the DVP from tmo. I either need to reset the modem or find the password. There is a AT commad to rest the modem config to default-i am afraid to do it, if it bricks my phone.
Whoa. Why offer this app if they aren't even providing carrier unlock codes?
This is to go with the UK/European release (which is imminent), where the devices will be sold carrier unlocked, and hence, provision needs to be made to allow changes in MMS settings (since you can just swap SIMs and hence, network).
Coincedentally, the UK DVPs were meant to ship around January 11th, but were delayed due to an Microsoft issue with MMS settings. Likely, MS held the release because they realised short of a hard reset to run the OOBE, there would be no way to change MMS settings when you change network, which is unacceptable as a user experience. The release of the MMS settings app could signal the release of the UK DVPs

A Microsoft issue with MMS? As I understand it, the ability to change or add MMS settings are hidden, but available to the HTC'S and Samsungs of the world. The decision to not expose those settings is more of a locked to a carrier function. Thought we found this out week one with the hd7, and later the LG and Samsung, who quickly released a connection setup . Dell is just now figuring it out.
There is still the Microsoft issue with WiFi , and the Microsoft issue with gorilla glass to be resolved.
Not true. The HTC Connection app does not expose MMS connection settings. General reports on teh interwebs is that the only Windows Phone 7 users with working MMS are those who are using a device on the carrier it was originally sold for.

It's true that the HTC app does not *expose* the settings, but it does *operate* on them.
I have an unlocked HD7 which I took overseas on vacation, and into which I inserted a local prepaid SIM. HTC Connection Setup ran and I was able to send MMS successfully.

Perhaps, though those of us on Wind Canada (uses MMS proxy) have had no such luck. There's at least a sense in which Microsoft's interface for connection settings is way too basic - whether there's an ADC app or not, there should be an ability to edit BOTH apn's, and with greater detail than simply a username and password.

I agree MMS settings is an Operator/OEM thing. I was citing the explanation for the UK delay (http://www.wpcentral.com/dell-venue-pro-delayed-sigh-again-uk).
Certainly, the MMS settings are down to Dell, and not MS, but MS may have had issue with Dell releasing a carrier free handset in the UK with no easy way to change the MMS settings, and that was the 'MS Issue', not any implication that there were problems with MMS that were MS's responsibility (as in a problem with the OS itself).
Hope that clears that up.
Hi,
I have a problem with sending/recieving MMS.
I know that this question was raised here million times, but for the last hour I was searching here, googling around the net...and no solution I found worked for me.
APN settings for MMS are correct, I tripple checked that. Tried many variation, change few settings, but no luck.
I read somewhere that when wifi is on, MMS wont work. But wifi is usually off in my case.
Tried to delete APN settings, and reset them to default....also tried to manualy enter APN settings for data and for MMS.
Also tried to chage custom user agent...now it is on default android.
Size of MMS wasnt the case because I was trying to send small audio files (about 20kB).
Here you can see logcat while I was trying to send MMS.
This lines from it I guess that are important:
E/Mms:transaction( 1042): Url: http://mms.telenor.rs/servlets/mms
E/Mms:transaction( 1042): HTTP error: Forbidden
E/SendTransaction( 1042): java.io.IOException: HTTP error: Forbidden
Somehow it is not allowing me to use MMS server.
After that I turned on setting 'use only 2G networks' in settings / mobile network and next MMS was sent without problem. Then I disabled that option, waited a little for connecting with provider to finish and tried again. MMS was sent succesfully again.
Then I rebooted the phone, and after that I cant send MMS with or without that option turned on. No luck after another reboot. In logcat now are the same errors.
Anyone have a clue how to fix this?
Bump???
Anyone has any idea?
Ask your network operator.
Also:
Before you start, you need to activate your handset for receiving and sending MMS. For handset configuration send a SMS with text ‘mms’ to 131. Once you have sent the SMS for MMS configuration, you will receive MMS settings in the form of an SMS which you need to save.
You can also download MMS settings on your handset click here.

That came to me, but wanted to try something else before that for few reasons.
First: MMS worked fine when I first started to use android (mostly sense builds). I haven't tried it until recently, and as I said in two occasions MMS was sent successfully, so if my network operator is blocking it, I guess that I couldn't done that in those two times.
Second: I bought HD2 on contract at my network operator 6 months ago, and already violated warranty at least 50 times, so it would be awkward to ask them why is MMS not working on my Android HD2
Anyway, thanx for the suggestion, if I don't get any other hint here, I might try that...
edit: I just read you second message. MMS is activated long time ago and I have used it many times. I know the correct configuration for MMS. I have tried the one that was auto installed at first boot, and they are the same as the one I have.

To be fair they don't need to know what OS you have on your phone. They probably don't even know the HD2 can run Android, or possibly even what Android is.
Navigate your phone to the link I supplied above. The problem of course is that the page may well be dedicated to some sort of WM application rather than Android.
I googled this and returned only some issues of application development for the iPhone and Android where people were suggesting to use different port numbers etc, hence my advice to ring your network operator.
I'll guess I'll try that. Thanx for your help.
BTW, your link was telenor site from Pakistan And I couldn't open it. Anyway I read several APN settings on Telenor Serbia site, for HD2, Desire, Desire HD, generic Android settings...parameters are correct. Also tried to change port to 9021 (it said that it is for older devices), with no luck....
