Facebook latest update sucks - Xperia Arc General

Ok so the latest update really sucks and I wonder about uninstalling it.
Why
1. Now it stays in the processes and comes back there all the time
2. Why the **** does this evoke GPS I have no idea but I hate this.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you mean in 1

It consumes 30-45MB RAM when running, but it's faster and looks better.
But because if it running all the time I get launcher drawbacks now (Facebook isn't the only running thing, eBuddy, Quick App Clean Cache for example start always too and widgets etc are running, too)
Maybe they'll update it again and fix it

Each app you exit with Back button closes itself like all previous FB versions as well as Twitter etc.
Now this **** stays with it's 40MB in the background and has to be manually closed from menus. What a crap.
I have it just for chat, web version is actually batter than this **** anyway.

And i got 120 mb ram free... What apps u got running in ram?

@ Xperienced:
At least it didn't fill up that much memory. Had ~65MB free RAM and no launcher drawbacks before the update and now ~45MB with drawbacks

You are right but it was just one process that's it.
Now the whole app sits in memory. Before it was null, that's the problem.
And why this crap starts GPS I have no idea.

That's the problem. I hate this GPS beeing forced to be on!!!

the gps is in use to locate you, and you will get a facebook notification when someone has checked in near you. i personally think its not a feature worth the battery drain/performance impact, but each to their own i guess.

That's the problem. Why the **** I can't turn OFF this tracking. And apparently the same **** happens on Google main website even if the browser has this OFF.
And once you leave FB, the whole app sits in the memory.
****ing ****. Why can't we just turn off these things!!!
I wanted to get rid of FB and use Go!Chat but this **** does the same ****ing GPS tracking!!!
Assholes.

this facebook you're referring to, is the facebook from android market? this is not the facebook integration with xperia right?
honestly i don't use facebook android so i don't update it, but i do use friendcaster for the same purpose.
let us know what version you use so it can be avoided.
in any case about the gps issue, can't you just turn off the gps on the settings, does facebook force it on?

I believe the more leaner mobile messaging (imo.im) also has facebook chat maybe u can try that app. Its also free.

X10 is Good ... can an X20 be Great?

I've been going through so many posts about the good an bad features of the X10 I thought maybe we should have a thread where we could actually agree on something?
If SE were to release a future device based on the X10, say the X20 what should they change?
I would say:
Give up a little sexy and go for a 1800-1900mAh battery.
USB connection on the bottom (docking station would be nice to use)
4.3 inch AMOLED screen (may help the battery issue right off the bat)
Front facing camera
Better battery cover (not sure how many times this one would come off before breaking one of those tiny tabs)
Android 2.2 at very least
Better colors .. Deep Red or Steel Blue. Yup, Pretty Pink for you ladies.
How could I forget, In-Call volume
i think x10 actually got the space to hold a bigger battery.
maybe SE just doesn't want to develope a new battery and simply give BTS-41 which is used on x1
the xperia x10 is a good device if you know how to use it. So far many of the problems have been fixed with third party add ons except for multi touch and the in call volume.
If the X10 2 does comes to Canada am going to my Rogers store and gonna ask for a discount.

Incoming call volume is a none issue with mine after the 023 firware update.
Multitouch is not an issue at all?? I have no idea why there are so many hung up on that. The one finger zoom looks to be a way better option.
Good luck getting a discount from Rogers. LOL
You guys forgot the most important thing...access to the bootloader .
Also, I've seen some aftermarket batteries for sale for the X10, I don't know if anyone here's tried them though...? I know there was an 1800mAh battery that is the same dimensions as the current 1500mAh one, and there was a 3600(?) mAh battery that needed a special case so it could fit.

We have access to the bootloader.
The way I see it is that 1.6 is a great platform to learn from and work on. The x10 suffers from software flaws.. pretty much nobody will critisize the hardware capabilities of it. The x20 doesn't even have to be released, just an x10 with better software and way less bundled stuff like mox

I wanted to get rid of Timescape as well but a number of people have said they have messaging problems after removing it. I stop all Timscape activity with a Startup Auditor and that hasn't caused me any problems.

And yeh Rogers is an ass but lets see, they did it for the G1 users so who knows
I would have:
- a back microphone (like the Nexus One) for background noise cancellation
- a Sony Ericsson original table stand (like the Aino)
- no cover over the USB connector
- USB connector not on the top of the device
- optical zoom
- a real flash
What I really don't miss:
- multitouch
- front camera

How do I turn off the blocking of playing music with Low Battery?

If they battery gets below 15%, I can't play music. It gives me a message about "please plug in the phone huaoaoaaouuo." I don't care if I'm going to run my battery dead sometimes I just want to hear a song!
I feel like there should be an option for this some where but I can't find it.
The only option I've found is to download another media player off of the marketplace, that being said I really like the real player one since I watch a lot of movies on my phone as well a listen to music

OMG... I hate this issue... I mean i appreciate the warning and all... but I should at least have the choice... maybe have the pop-up with a continue anyway button or a way to disable in settings...
The idea of warning and attempting to save the battery is a good one, but making it a mandatory default is an apple move, and its sill I have to download third party apps to get around it... if thats the case I cant wait for 2.2 so i can update and just flash a custom rom completely getting rid of all the useless stuff... including the lock down default apps... no point in having two cam or music apps on one device...ahh well
I read that the reason they stop the camera from being able to take photos and the music from playing is that they want to minimize the risk of corrupting the SD card by not writing to it when the phone dies. What doesn't make any sense why they chose 15% and not a more sensible 3% or even 5%. This really pisses me off.

If my wife has a my touch 4g can we video chat using this app or is there a different
way?
Yes, you can chat with a MT4G as long as you both use this app.
However, the app runs in the background and drains quite a bit of battery power.
I went from not having to charge my phone overnight to it dying on me halfway through when I installed the app.
It's very useful, so I don't want to remove it... But I don't think I can deal with the battery drain.

Yes, it is very useful, and yes, it does startup in the background and run.
I kill it with each phone reboot (settings, apps, running services, stop) and after each use.
That's too much work, IMO (this isn't the only app that starts up and commences it's batter drain agenda).
Utilizing C2DM and not having the application run in the background would be the obvious best solution, because then it would only start up when you got a Tango Call in (or initiated one) and then shut down until it is told to do so.
This is part of the issue with multi-tasking.
It's not only about running multiple applications concurrently, but when everyone thinks their app needs to run as a service, it doesn't really serve to enhance the usability of the device.

[20th Aug] things i've noticed in the new 2.3.3 update

I'm with Vodafone UK and PC Companion will now give us the official firmware update even though OTA will not.
It is still 2.3.3 but definately brings some new cool things. Here is what i've found so far.
UI Changes -
1) Finally we have landscape mode for the home pages. Unfortunately it only goes to landscape if you slide the phone open, it wont switch to landscape for me by rotating the phone. Cool nevertheless.
2) Smoother menu scrolling. Well it seems alot smoother for me anyway.
3) Themes - Basic bog standard themes, but they change the colours of all the menus etc. I didnt have this before the update, i am sure of it. (maybe my memory is wrong though).
4) New Timeout animation. It look cool ! Like an old CRT television turning off with the horizontal line disapearing into a small dot.
5) My keyboard no longer behaves erratically. For example, pressing "p" regularly printed a "Q" and a "P" for me. (pressing the right hand side of the screen in landscape mode activated the right and left hand side for some strange reason!). Very nice for me !
Settings Changes -
1) XLoud (found in the settings, sound menu). Apparently this does something to the speakers. Made ZERO difference for me. Mine was massively loud anyway, so i am guessing mine were already set up this way.
2) New silent mode in settings, sound (under XLoud). "All sounds except media & Alarms"
3) "X" takes pictures !!!!!! Now no need for camera mod, unless you want to use "R" trigger instead of "X". Me personally, will use "X". Great work by the camera mod dev anyway.
Apps and Software Additions -
1) Data Monitor Widget - It will only measure 3g, not WiFi, but i guess this is all we need. The widget definately looks cool. Now my main data monitor.
2) Qriocoty - A downloadable movies and videos app. You can either rent or buy.
3) WisePilot - Not sure if this is better than the navigation, i will test it next time i am on the road.
4) NeoReader - Bog standard barcode scanner
5) Store - Re-hash of market place i think. Not sure.
Who wants to add to things i have missed? There must be other stuff we have got?

Is there a way to disable the Timeout animation? I never really liked it in custom ROMs.
Also, to use the X we'll have to slide out the gamepad, we had to know SE would make it annoying before making it easier.
Lastly, thanks a lot of the list. Now I know what to expect and hope for it to reach my carrier soon.

Problem with facebook

Don't know if its just me but is anyone else finding Facebook unusable. I updated it the other day for her and now she keeps complaining to me that its takes about half an hour just to scroll threw it as all the pictures are to big and keep taking up the whole screen
It's Facebook's new timeline update. It's how it is. Lol.
Think she will have to get used to it about time her fingers did some work anyway
Yeah, they didnt really take into consideration how the pictures would look on larger landscape devices. I'm sure it looks ok on phones, but tablets....yeah that's a different story.
Had a quick look on it today every picture takes ages to scroll threw. The only good thing is at least she will leave my tab alone now

Friendcaster is by far the best Facebook app, and FAR better than the official one.
Better interface, faster, easier to navigate, integrated Facebook Chat.
Only problem at the moment seems to be inbox messaging, though I believe that is being sorted.
I tried out Friendcaster and the UI is nice, and seems faster but the photos don't work. They are all pixelated. Also, I had it open and was switching between that and FB for android. Friendcaster was missing a bunch of posts that FB was showing. Not sure what the issues are. Why can't something just work the way it should?

You should get yourself an iPad mate, my wife has one and I can assure you it just works... all the time!

Do you really think that was at all helpful? The iPad is not the end all and be all. I vastly prefer my Galaxy Tab because I wanted a full featured tablet computer, not a giant iPod Touch.
Getting back on topic, I agree that Facebook really screwed up their latest update. The pictures aren't handled right at all. It seems they've forced the app to behave like it's on a phone and are snubbing tablets all together.
However, if you don't mind viewing Facebook in portrait mode, it's fine. The photos are only screwed up when viewing in landscape mode. I hope they get their act together and fix it soon.
My friends have iPads and they complain about the same issues. The application does the same on both devices. Its just reformating the mobile page contents...

I pressed that button on the bottom left in the tray area that zooms in to apps that aren't built for tabs, and it zoomed and stretched and the FB app seems to function better, but it is all kind of grainy and pixelated.
Why faccebook who has so many users, can't update their app to use tab's screen size? After all, tablets become more and more popular and recent days.

Because whoever is responsible for developing their mobile apps is utterly incompetent. They have always sucked and Facebook really doesn't seem to care, probably because they want people to access the site via web browser so they can shove all their ads in their faces.
well, if you have a tablet, FB is perfectly usable in the browser. As far as the ads, would you rather pay to use FB instead?
