[Q] WIFI and ROOT problem with GingerCruzt 7.4 - XPERIA X8 General

I just installed the ROM GINGERCRUZT and almost everything has worked very well. I have problems with:
* The WiFi does not connect, it always is acquiring IP - A forum is a zip with 3 files I need to replace the folder system / bin / wifi, but I have no root access
* I have no root access to the device .- I tried the latest superonclick and does not work from the terminal application throws the error "can not insert '/ system/lib/modules/jbd2.ko': File exists".
My main problem is that WiFi does not work, but apparently I need root access to fix it and does not work, please help ...
Regards,
Johnny

Im confused with your statement, how come you can flash custom firmware (GC) if you dont have root access? You can try to use root explorer if your pushing files manually or use FXP wifi fix and flash with xrec. Im sorry I cannot find the file you have to search it.

been using using GC 7.4 for sometime, i don't have those problems after full wipe.

Hi,
Make a new full wipe and still is the same. Could not connect to a WiFi network and I have no root access to the device. One application they have is the Terminal, enter here and put SU, the system throws me:
export PATH / data / local / bin: $ PATH
insmod: can not insert '/ system/lib/modules/jbd2.ko': Operation not allowed
insmod: can not insert '/ system/lib/modules/ext4.ko': Operation not allowed
insmod: can not insert '/ system/lib/modules/app2sd.log': Operation not allowed
sh: can not create / sqlitr_stmt_journals/app2sd.log: noexistentent directory
$ $ Su
su: permission denied
$
Regards,
Johnny

I used GingerCruzt r7.4 for a week, good rom, but I had to replace it because it also gave me problems with wifi (continuous disconnections / reconnections).
Any solution?

no wifi problem its good rom

I used that ROM for few days its good ROM no problem but when u press on right-up on screen where is player, gallery, radio i looks like lagg

Root access should be working fine as im using gc u should see super user in the apps draw and x recovery and clockwork mod come preinstalled and no idea about wifi as I dont use it apart from tethering

Debian for Desire.
If you are able to try this on another android device, please do as I will be very interested in the results.
Download
http://www.multiupload.com/79TSI1AAF9
You will need.
-Root access.
-Busybox (included in most custom roms)
-1.4gig free on SDCARD
-VNC Client (ie. AndroidVNC)
-Terminal Emulator (ie. ConnectBot)
-7zip
Instructions
-Extract the file deSIREbian.7z on your PC using 7zip.
-Copy the contents (debian.img and deboot) to root directory of SDCARD.
-On your phone in terminal emulator type
su
sh /sdcard/deboot
Click to collapse
You should get a blank screen showing "localhost:/#" after a couple of seconds.
-On your phone in your VNC client log in using these details
Password - password
Port - 5901
Click to collapse
Nickname and Address are not needed, call it what you want though.
Changing the colour to 24bit and enabling local mouse pointer and full screen bit map are not neccesary but reccomended.
-Thats it.
Notes.
-You can log in via ssh, (gives a much better terminal, ie works properly with aptitude). Use [email protected] and password "toor"
-The version of Debian is Armel Lenny, installed using debootstrap.
-It is just the base package with LXDE on top, you only get a desktop, a file browser, an internet browser, and a pic viewer.
-If you want more packages there's tonnes of room on the image. eg apt-get install openoffice.org or apt-get install abiword or apt-get install any flipping thing u want
-You can access the SDCARD from Debian at "root/sdcard" (read-write)
-You can access Debian filesystem from Android (When Debian is running) at "sdcard/debian" (read only)
-debian.img is mounted at "sdcard/debian" using "dev/block/loop5"
-So far the only rom i have come accross that this dont work with is one of the cyanogen nightlies from last week. apart from that, working on opendesire, cyanogen, defrost, leedroid, official 2.2 with busybox...
Issues.
Debian cannot be shut down. You need to reboot the phone to do this. (You can kill the VNC server with "vncserver -kill :1" there is an icon on the festoons to do this.)
Update log.
deSIREbain.
-First release.
deSIREbain2
Fixed
-Loading a second terminal no longer breaks vnc.
-You no longer need to create the folder debian on sdcard.
Added
-ssh server (login with root and toor)
Removed.
-The image has been downsized from 2 gig to 1.4

I found this guide quite helpful at getting a bootstrapped Debian setup running.
http://www.saurik.com/id/10
I didn't need to insert the ext2 module as it's already loaded for me, I guess G1s didn't have that convenience back then.

There should be a guide on installing busybox somewhere if you want to search for it, i know i remember seeing one a while ago.
Too be honest, your better off just flashing a rom that includes busybox, it would be MUCH easier.
have a look here and see what takes your fancy, I would recomend defrost, because it is stable and easy to overclock.
Thanks mercianary,
It works fine!,
I use customised DeFroST_0.9b_uvonly with USB-host patch.
By the way I would like to add more options to kernel line.
Where can I find like a menu.lst file ? or How to add it to kernel line.
There is no /dev/graphics/* in running Debian console.
I would like to use FrameBuffer on running Debian.

You should understand that this is not a really booted native linux. Instead you are working in a chroot environment. So there is no kernel running that can get parameters. Only the the stock kernel of your DeFroST. Also there is no FrameBuffer as the graphic hardware ist not accessible. Instead this approach uses a vnc-server to which you can connect via a local viewer.
The advantage of this approach is clear:
- run almost any linux package available in the debian repository
- use your phone as before with the nice android
The disadvantage:
- no graphic output, so no 3D-games (which are rare under linux on the arm platform ;-)
- you can crash your android by eating up to much ram (not such a problem - it restarts on its own and if not you just have to reboot)
Thread is dead?
It seems this thread is dead. The problems many users seem to have come from a dirty setup. The image is broken in many terms:
- wrong file permissions on important binaries, like su
- wrong file permissions on many device files under /dev, so the ttys are only accessible by root
- wrong permissions on other places so there are always errors when installing additonal software (e.g. with the man pages)
- wrong setup that uses the root user for the desktop - instead an unprivileged user should be used
- missing packages for timezones and locales so the time is only right, if you are in a UTC region and console programs having trouble displaying anything else then plain english
I can not recommend using this setup image. It is better to use one of the instructions available online to get a clean setup.
Su doesn't work because your allready root.
Getting anything but root to work would be a real pain.
As you said its a chroot environment, its never going to be perfect.
The image was made using debootstrap just like all the other 'clean' ones.
Yep, it is broken as hell, but it works for what most people would need it for...make,gcc,python,a proper web browser, torrents, and some emergency word processing on the train to work.
The problem most people have is not being able to mount the image, this is due to fro-yo a2sd taking up all the loop devices.
Just thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I tried this on a MIUI rom and the scripy didnt do anything - ie i ran it using:
"# sh /sdcard/deboot"
.....and all it said was:
"#"
I entered all the lines in the shell script but the last one said it failed to launch VLC and no commands registered property (not even ls)
So i tried it on Defrost 5.1, and the script still didn't work.
But when i entered everything manually, it did work. Not too sure about the green theme though.
But thanks alot! Saves me spending a few hours trying to coax a working debootstrap out of my computer.
Thanks!
Josh.

Nope. Actually su works only for root. It's missing the setuid root flag like all other binaries that should have it set.

Nope. I am always working as a normal, unprivileged user in my chroot. You just have to be in the proper groups. No need to work as root. Android works also with an unprivileged user.

This is what I do not understand. There is no need that it is broken, as mine works without any errors. So I think something went wrong in creating yours. For sure a chroot is no running OS but you can server almost any service with it and run anything you want (if your ram does not get exhausted ;-).

Yes. Everyone with a good rom should have a2sd+ (aka the old a2sd) which saves more space than the froyo one and leaves your loop devices for you.

[Q] "Download Unsuccessful"

Ho there, Im sure this has been posted a thousand times before. The best post I could find was s0be's fix but the instructions are not in regular English. Basically, I am unable to download any new apps/any app updates for no apparent reason. I have tried every solution under the sun except this one. Usually you guys know what your talking about so I have confidence in it.

can anyone translate? would be much appreciated.
We can forgo any contemptuousness by simply acknowledging my n00byness now.

1. adb shell
This starts an interactive shell with the device. Every command from now on will run on the device and not on the computer.
2. su
su = Super User = the highest level of clearance. Once this is called you are running as root and have access to every little thing in the OS. You are now the boss. You need "root" to get access to this command.
3. mkdir /cache/download
mkdir = Make Directory = Create a new folder/directory with the name "download" in the path "/cache/".
"/" being the master/root path for all paths.
4. chown system:cache /cache/download
chown = Change owner = Change the persons who are recognized by the OS as being the owners of that particular directory.
system:cache = the user is "system" and the group is "cache".
Every file and directory on the OS always has 3 person categories attached. User (the owner), Group(the group), All (everyone else). You can change permissions for every one of those 3 as seen below.
5. chmod ug+rwx /cache/download
chmod = Change Mode = change the permissions for a specific file.
ug = both the User and the Group.
+rwx = Add (the +) Read, Write and eXecute permissions.
ug+rwx /cache/download = Add Read, Write and eXecute permissions to the user and group for the directory "/cache/download".
6. chmod a+x /cache/download
As above, but here you giving everybody else eXecute permission only.

I had the same problem some days ago and i tried almost everything i found on the web, but nothing worked.
At least i solved the problem replacing the market app (vendor.apk) with a most recent one.
To do this you need a working vendor.apk (i grabbed from a most recent rom) and a file explorer who can use root to copy file in /system/app (like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer).
Now simply replace vendor.apk.
This worked for me
Or you could just re-install it.
Use my APK installer tool and check the "re-install" box.
This will overwrite the apk file but not mess with the configuration...
Just like what you suggested :0)
yes sure, nice tool mate
Thanks for all your help!
Thanks for all the help! I did what you suggested and tried to replace the android market with a newer version. I couldn't do a direct install with a new APK, someone said you have to uninstall the old APK. I decided to try just flashing a new gapps; I got the files from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909067
It worked. The new market was able to update my apps successfully.
You guys rock!!! Thanks again!
no problem mate, i got crazy for the same problem last weeke so i'm happy to share the solution
Would it work if i do the same for "download unsuccessful. please try again" problem ?
the "please try again" problem should be a connection problem I suggest to check your wi-fi or apn settings
I made it just a minute ago.
-- Unmount SD Card. (Settings - Sd& Phone Storage)
-- Install any app from Market. (It will install without any error.)
-- Mount SD card back. And ta-daaa! You can install any app from market now.
Thanks anyway

Slight problem
Previously I had Superuser App and Titanium backup installed and removed the bloatware from my service provider. I tried doing this again once the update was completed but Titanium says it cannot get root access and Superuser is not listing it at all and I cannot add it.

Have you read the relevant 587 rooting threads, as you've obviously lost root access during the update.

suspect it is the carrier
I`m just a novice at this game but I dont see how the carrier could affect root as you flash generic .587 firmware to begin with...
Have a look at this great video and follow it point by point but use the alternative root kit than the one shown, although I didnt run programmes from command prompt like he suggests..

Sorry if you have already seen it.

Interesting post here saying that 587 cannot be rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105325
May explain why i am having issues
Quite right , .587 cannot be rooted directly. You have to downgrade by flashing an earlier version kernel.
So its...Flash .587 firmware - FLASH .562 KERNEL ONLY - root with DooMLoRD_v1_Xperia-2011-ICS-ROOT-emu-busybox-su - flash original .587 kernel..
Watch the video , all is explained within it ...

I think the system partition is in Read-Only mode. Mount the system in RW mode, move the sqlite3 binary and then do remember to remount in RO mode.
Sqlite3 is already attached in this XDA thread i guess. Try this set of instruction - http://stackoverflow.com/a/5022363
Happy Querying !!
Edit:
I think you should be pushing it in '/system/xbin', NOT '/system/bin' as mentioned in the above set of instruction

Thanks for the reply! I was hoping I could do this somehow without needing my computer (I tried using es file explorer). I don't particularly want to install the sdk - could I use a terminal app on the phone?

I haven't tried it.. But I think it should work.. Besides., you don't need to install the entire SDK.. You just have to have the adb exe..

Well, this binary is no longer working..
I am using a Nexus 4, android 4.4.2, rooted, moved the binary to xbin, when I try to execute it, fails with below error:

Well, spent a lot of time browsing and searching for binaries, uploading them to phone, making system rw, moving, changing permissions and checking if working, and finally have found a binary that it working on my Nexus 4.. And it was on my phone already.. the one that gets downloaded from within romtoolbox is working great.. when root browser from rom toolbox is opened it asks to download some extra files, these include busybox, zip, unrar and sqlite3! Out of frustration I searched the entire phone for sqlite3 and found this..
tks very much!

SU not found

hi, 2months ago I root the device with cm-10.2.1-maguro all working as expected, till I liked to use voice recorder after recording stopped the app close, realize that has to do with root.
I couldnt find how to enable the app through superuser, so start to check for alternatives so I landed here
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
no hope also with that, uninstalled. The problem :
through adb + eclipse I can browse the device folders when using adb root - OK
on device superuser still @ settings - OK
when on android terminal - and run the command su writes su not found!
then I red @ superSU GplayURL
Superuser access management runs through a so called "su binary". There can be only one of these at a time.

When an app requests SU, you should be prompted. If you've set a default choice, you should be able to change that from the SU app. You should also be able to change previous choices from there as well.
basically the problem is :
1-voice recorder recording but no output
2-on built-in browser in any page has 'browse' to choose a file - the open dialog never opens! (aka facebook.com upload photo or imgur.com)
how I will resolve these? googlesearch=0%
