capped to 59 fps? - Xperia Arc General

is it normal that the FPS is capped to 59? Cos my girlfriend's Neo gets about 67/68 in fps2d :O

Hey,
It is intentionally capped at 60 fps as far as i know.. It was in some other post..
Cos anything higher will cause tearing and artefacts..
It can be unset though.. Search in the forums.. it was in the thread about compiling the kernel by one of the SE devs i think..

32 FPS Limit in official gingerbread?

I was wondering if anyone is aware if the FPS will be capped at 32 in the official 2.3.3 or if the limit will be lifted? Does the arc have a cap?
Seems that we'll have to wait and see, but I sure hope not.
I have seen some videos running quadrant tests and it's FPS are higher than our 30 cap so I hope they removed the cap or at least raise it to 60FPS.
Really?
On Gingerbread is it only capable 32fps ??? But somebody know if zoom feature run in this version? 'cuz in Cyanogem 2.2 I don't have zoom

I may be wrong here but i think we have a cap cuz our UXP, things like the background in settings, calc, etc. it lowers performance and little things like that cause us to be capped so even if we were at 60 it doesnt constantly lag trying to keep up :$ just my opinion...
totally wrong i use zkernel and i have 49-56 fps on my phone
If there's fps cap just wait for z he will uncapp it (i hope)
Yep, with zkernel the 32fps crap is gone, and the X10 feels much more responsive than with the stock kernel. Oh and with zkernel the battery lasts much longer too. So all this 32fps cap does is making the phone more laggy and ****ty than other comparable devices like the desire o galaxy s1.

Even if we use a kernel with uncapped FPS, we only get up to 56-58 FPS. Never reaching 60 FPS, this is simply the limit of the LCD. SE capped it to 32 FPS so that no damage would be done to the LCD (not like there's any).
Just as a reminder, the X10 uses old hardware.
They posted all changes, removed 32fps cap was never one of them.

all he said was he wasn't sure... He didn't know how to test it on the beta firmware he had.
Was it really to hard to post this in the gingerbread thread?

[Q] FPS cap/framerate question

Hi,
I have a question about the framerate of the sgs.
How come when running benchmarks or just monitoring your fps, the framerate is OR 67 (on galaxian) OR 33/34. The frequency's in between are really rarely used.
It seems like when the framerate of 67 is not achieved, the framerate drops to half the speed automatically.
It's not just on galaxian kernel but every kernel i ever used.
Has anyone some information on this?
It's not a problem or anything just personal interest.
I have it too.
I had it on speedmod, and now i have it on galaxian.
So it's not only galaxian which is doing it.
On speedmod the max fps was 55 (i think) and in quadrant i could see it was doing 55 or 28 (exactly half of it) with al the 3d tests.
Exactly... anyone knows what is behind this?

I haven't heard of limits other than the default(?) ~55-56 fps. Pretty sure it's there because rendering 60+ is a waste of battery life.
Its a byproduct of vsync when the phone can't hold the fps steady at the frame limit.

Increasing framerate also seem to cause colour profile to change and appears washed out. Check out snail talon kernel if you want to try.

[Q]Max FPS for X5 in some benchmark.

I want to know something about X5 max FPS. My phone have just repaired from flickering screen (LCD changed). I want to know the max FPS that you can get from some benchmark like Quadrant and Neocore. My Ideos X5 before repaired got max 30 FPS, and after repaired it get 45 FPS max. How about your's?
Maybe you got a rom upgrade too, your settings etc gone when you got it back?
What rom did you have before and what do you have now?

No. It have the same standard rom in my country (B137) and the same version too.
BTW is it possible to release the FPS cap?
i was used a code that i forget it! sorry ! on the stock rom is 72.8FPS!

Adding debug.gr.swapinterval=0 to build.prop unlock the speed cap. BTW any one know how to lock the FPS to 60?
yes..it can make the phone smooth. games like fruit ninja will be more smooth.
but i dont know how to unlock the fps crap.i tried to ask franco for help, but he didnt reply me.
how to lock the fps to 60? help!

There is a command, Franco remove it, because people didnt like it. I dont have build enviroment, so i can build franco kernel with it. Maybe someone who has can.

Gingerbread slower on 3d gaming

is there a way how to speed up the gingerbread on 3d gaming like on froyo?
in froyo my NFS Shift is like 55 - 60 fps but in gingerbread its just around 30 - 40 fps..
same on Quadrant in 3d rendering the red and blue dna like rolling figure is 49 - 50 fps in FROYO but in gingerbread it wont pass 30 fps
any tweaks on how to boost 3d rendering speed?
First of all, wrong section
Froyo indeed had better hardware acceleration than gb, and the kernel was also a lot better, Samsung rushed gb and messed things, but does it really affect you, the human eye can see @ ~30fps max, so does it matter?
honestly im seeing the difference.. 30fps is like lagging/stuttering to my naked eye..
i dont know but maybe its because I'm used to a high FPS on my computer.. the lowest FPS i see on my PC game is 90 fps. that's why I can differenciate 30fps to 60fps

Some people can really tell the difference. Sadly, I'm one of them
But I started using the tab as more of a work device than gaming, so the newer features of Gingerbread far outweighed the gaming performance of Froyo for me.

LOL i'm also one of them, and this was one of the reasons HC needed froyo bootloader!
actually in terms of UI rendering and office apps specially on loading.. Gingerbread beats froyo over a mile ahead.. gingerbread is smoother only the 3d gaming is the problem.. but very well going to stick on gingerbread 2.3.6..
and btw.. Froyo also allows to underclock the CPU with higher value than gingerbread.. on froyo I can run 1.4ghz with -350mv stable but on gingerbread I cant get past -50mv stable on 1.4ghz..
any other tweak on how are the others getting a monstrous 3K score on quadrant?

GB is faster than froyo, it would more, but Samsung rushed out the update, and that ruined it partially.
UV is kernel issue, try with some other kernel first, and -350mv is insane!
3k in quadrant is nothing, its just a score, can be fooled, mostly its fooled in I/O part
-350mv running stable on 1.4ghz is true..
have you tried a FROYO with any kuxodaxi's kernel?
i suggest you try it and see for yourself
yeah Gingerbread is faster in froyo but not on samsung..
on tab froyo beats gingerbread in terms of 3d gaming
by the way what is the best I/O scheduler for you?

Honestly, no
I got my tab from my dad sometime back, and i had already updated to gb via *cough* kies *cough*, so didnt get a chance to try it out more.
i hope someone can port the UI speed of Gingerbread to the Froyo XD

Z3C monitor Refresh Rate

Hi there,
can you please check qith a really light benchmark (like quadrant standard) and report the fps cap on the 3D tests(and in which test)? i see mine caps at 50-51, seems like that is the limit on the screen(48fps) and that is the reason my old Nexus 4 (has much smoother transitions and user experience -the only compartment the N4 wins actually...) i have disabled Stamina etc, all power saving features.. but that limit hasnt changed..
BL Locked, stock rom .77
Thanks
Up to 69 fps here.
Locked BL, .77 firmware
Thanks for your reply, in which benchmark achieved 69fps to check with mine z3c?
I`ve got up to 68 fps as well.
testet with quadrant standard lb on .77
Well, Thanks for your replies, both , it seems that even if i disable the "Extended Use" (something like that), if i don't restart the phone it doesnt stick, that's why the 48-50fps, when i reboot it, the fps went to the same range like yours.
the first one got to 69 if i remember correctly. The lowest one was the DNA thing
What u got in 3d test is not monitor refresh rate.
