Finally decided to hop on the wp7 train very impressed so far; mainly bought the phone because mango is nearing however I have a question. Is it worth it to wait for the official focus mango release or should I just install the rtm or whatever everyone seems to be playing with or wait it out till the supposed release date of sept15? Assuming in a perfect world Rogers released the update ASAP.
Thanks for the input guys.
Release to Manufacturing. You can always decide to go to the finished Mango when the update is available for your phone. Basically RTM is stable and ready to be shipped.
Go for it.

Thanks I guess I didn't realize your post got edited I just heard the rtm was like universal rom that didn't have the "kinks" worked out for specific phones?
It's basically final. Now it's up to the manufacturers to Polish it up. So it'll be stable, bit a small amount our bugs. I suggest you do the update, since there's no ETA when Samsung will release an update for the focus. The Mango is said to bring much needed tweaks to WP7.

I have rtm Mango on mine, too and it's beautiful. No bugs that I've found. Go for it.

that is intensive, I might just wait till next week ( I heard that was the leaked release date )
Just do it people, the release is stable. Almost a month with Mango RTM and no complains.
I was not able to get my Samsung Focus v1.4 to mango. It is not clear that this is possible. I have not found a single guide to be successful for my v1.4 mango.
mango notification?
Does anyone know if you running the RTM if we will get notified for a "phone update" still even if we're running the RTM of mango? I want to update to the latest official release when it comes out, but Im not sure if we will get notified if we're already running mango?
Apple announced iPhone5 on early October so Microsoft now has to get the Mango out asap
It's been officially announced it will come within 2 weeks from now.
Personally I think it will be ready next week.

Here it is! Middle of march! Where the f***k is an official update?
HTC is going to get shot because there's another rumor that it won't be out til mid April.
Surprised??? HTC doesn't have a very good track record for firmware releases.

So why don't you put a 2.1 ROM on your phone in the meantime? There are loads of good ROMs recently released that are based on the Eris or Legend dumps. There are also loads of guides on how to root and how to flash. Thats what I've done and I am satisfied.
you didn't actually expect it to come in Mid March did you?
I've learnt to take these things with a pinch of salt, HTC are too busy pushing out new phones to be bothered with us early HTC adopters.
Play with some 2.1 ROMs in the meantime, althought quite why we need so many is beyond me. Devs should combine features instead of competing with each other.

Well yeah actually, the middle of March is the 15th!!! So... HTC have still time to release it, and if they do, then this is a wasted thread!
If you beleive that HTC are really 'playing' with you, then don't bother with your phone, sell it and buy something else... maybe one that never gets updated?!?
Relax and wait for it, I'm sure it will be worth it. There are plenty of 2.1 Roms to try already. We are all eager to see the official release... you're not alone.

I'm using behnaam's latest Legend ROM 1.3.1 and its ok for me at the moment - I haven't found any real bugs that stop me enjoying Android 2.1 until the official release.
But I'm afraid that no matter how much we complain here or to HTC, its not going to change anything. HTC will release the update when it is ready. If they feel a release needs to be delayed they will delay it. Threads like this will not change things.

I think you've answered your own point here:
HTC Sweden that says the Android 2.1 release is not “set in stone” and expect it “around April”
HTC have never set a release date in stone, and so we'll have to wait for them. As I said, no matter how much we complain, it won't change things.
And yes, mods please close this thread, its pointless.

Did you test the 2.1 roms that are out now? They are so much faster than stock 1.5, that's the main reason why I'm looking forward to the official release.
Calm down, they will release an update when finished. I don't think it's HTC who spread news on the Internet. It's people who spread rumors.
I really don't believe all the whining, what the hell?
1) It isn't even 'the middle' of March yet, if you're going to be day exact.
2) if someone _would_ say 'middle of march' I never _ever_ saw people starting to complain the moment the '15th' hit and the promised thing wasn't there. Must be something specific to Hero users I think.
3) The most official statement we ever got (and the only one, forgot all the 'february' crap rumours that started somewhere) said 'in march', not the middle. Regional Director HTC Benelux called it 'medio maart' in dutch, which translates to something like 'somewhere in march'.
I really can't believe the hate posting that starts _every_ _single_ _time_ again, primarily on XDA, but also on HTCPedia and MoDaCo. Do people have nothing better to do than wait for a software for their phones?!?
Samsung UK We know you are all eagerly awaiting the Froyo updates, and we appreciate your patience. The network testing of the Galaxy S Froyo upgrade is proceeding according to the schedule we released last week (we expect all UK customers to receive their upgrade by the end of November). We can confirm that the software we’re working on includes a solution to the Froyo Android Market issue which has been widely discussed.
http://www.facebook.com/roger.pitman#!/SamsungUK
Mmm, same thing on twitter.
Really not liking that 'end of Nov' part.
Just read this too, good news if they can keep to their word. Makes sense that they pulled it after the initial release to sort out the market issue, doesn't say about any other problems people have experienced but I guess they just want to get this out now and then tweak it more if necessary later.
We know the final build is done as they have released the japanese version with 2.2, so it must be about upgrading thats causing the problem. Just like people on here have said once they did a clean install it works pretty well, so they must want to make sure its ok when moving from eclair to froyo
End of november? Gasp
The nicest thing is, that market problem is not even related to the phone itself. My mate, who has a desire has the exact same problem with the market "download unsuccessful" problem....if this is what they are talking about...

According to Android Central: http://www.androidcentral.com/european-galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-coming-end-march
Link to Samsung Romania post: http://www.facebook.com/SamsungMobileRomania/posts/189412624430604
A post on Samsung Mobile Romania's Facebook page seems to suggest that Romanian Galaxy S phones (and presumably other European models) may see an official update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread by the end of March.
Translated into English and cleaned up a little, the post reads:
"The update to version 2.2.1 for Galaxy S will be available until 20 March, and Gingerbread (2.3) until the end of the month."
Our Romanian is a little rusty, but we think it's safe to assume the last part of that statement means either "it'll arrive by the end of the month", or "it won't arrive until the end of the month". Either way, it looks like the European Galaxy S could soon claim bragging rights as the first non-Nexus phone to get an official Gingerbread update. HTC has announced that Gingerbread will be coming to some of its older phones, but these updates aren't due until sometime in the second quarter.
Samsung Romania also adds that two of its budget phones, the i5500 Galaxy 5 and i5800 Galaxy 3, will be updated to Froyo by Mar. 20 and Mar. 31 respectively. [Samsung Romania Facebook via Crave]

I don't really know the history of the Vibrant, (Picked it up off Craigslist 2 months ago) but this at least gives me some hope.
God, getting Gingerbread on the Vibrant would be AMAZING. It would increase the speed, and once the source is released, we would see some awesome gingerbread ROM's for it.

Hopefully somebody will be able to port it quickly if T-Mobile foes not roll out the rom in the same timeframe...

Well, Froyo for the base GalaxyS came out last year. September to be exact. It's not like they just released Froyo 2 months ago... It just took until February for them to port it to most other "custom" GalaxyS devices (like the Vibrant).
Hopefully it won't take as long for the porting process to work again.
I know I saw somewhere that T-Mobile said that they would be faster when it comes to updates. Hopefully this is true, and we get Gingerbread. I don't care if they put touchwiz on there, because as soon as the source code is released, HELLO custom ROM's, and CM7 stable.
If they just put it on mini kies then all will be great if they do release it to the vibrant thats how we will be able to get it anyway.
For the US versions, see u in 2012
Ginger bread 2 months after they release S2 here I figure that would be August or Sept............ but then, i am an optimist

yeah. I dont get it too.
I start to think that today is actually the day when mango are harvested.
It doesn't mean they are also delivered in the same day.
You know, there's people who harvest them from the mango trees, then put in the boxes, then loaded in trucks and then trucks need to hit the road and drive to facilities for distribution. And then it still takes some time to be sent to the fruit markets.
So, there's still some time to wait. I don't think today is THE day when we eat mangos.
Well... I heard the Apple truck is already loaded and the truck just passed the Mango truck. The Mango people should turn on the jets and after burners!
I too am waiting for Rogers to roll out the Mangos. Sounds like AT&T and Rogers should merge. Oh wait.. that was already tried.
Let's hope by tonight the Mangos are delivered to the market!
apples are sold better then mangos. everyone eats apples.
