[Q] Constant "out of memory" messages. - HD2 General

I never experienced any problems whatsoever with my previous HD2. It had the Vodafone ROM on it (latest). Unfortunately I lost it a few months ago but bought a used one shortly after.
This HD2 unfortunately died on me. I bought a used motherboard through eBay from a guy in England (I'm in the Netherlands myself) and replaced the broken motherboard with the one from eBay. This brought my HD2 back from the dead.
But I noticed it had a weird Arabic ROM version on it so I wanted to flash the latest official HTC ROM on it. This at first didn't work because the RUU kept complaining the ROM was not suitable for this HD2.
So I first flashed HSPL4 after which I was able to flash the official HTC ROM v3.14.404.2.
But my problem is I'm constantly encountering what seems memory related problems. Sometimes I want to start a program and I get a pop-up saying there's no sufficient memory available to start the program. Other times nothing happens at all when I try to start a program. Or for instance the display doesn't update properly. The only that helps is switching the phone off and restarting it again (soft-reset).
But I need to soft-reset my phone about 5-10 times a day.
I've tried reflashing the ROM a few times now, even did a Task29, but I still get the same errors.
Is this a ROM problem or a hardware problem? Or is there any way to troubleshoot what could be causing this?

what does the spl line say in bootloader? a 3.14 rom wont run right on any thing except 3.03.0000 or 3.03.hspl, it loses a few hundred meg of ram.

Ah, well that's the problem then.
Code:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
I'm pretty sure I used DFT HSPL4 to install the HSPL. Can I use that too to install SPL 3.03?

To answer my own question, I just used HSPL4 to install SPL 3.03.HSPL.
The difference I immediately see is that my total program memory went up from 208.81MB to 336.77MB and (more importantly) free program memory went up from 46MB to 173MB.

common error, most people dont notice the dropdown selector in the hspl.exe program, or dont really get what the options mean. for all non 3.14 roms, they will all run on any spl.

Just to let you know that switching to SPL 3.03.HSPL seems to have solved all my problems. Well, the HD2 related ones that is.
Everything runs very smooth now (some programs that didn't run at all now run without problems) and I haven't had a memory related error since.
Thanks!

Confused

Hy guys and girls.
I am a bit confused here and would like to ask for some help, by the way I already spent a lot of time lookign for answers here but I get more and more confused.
Well I wanted to try some Roms and I saw the high suggestions to install the HDPL first to avoid bricking my expensive HD2, well I tried but the problem is here.
FYI my HD2 is a Telstra version. It came with a black GUI style I guess it was the world wide version, but I am not sure as I did not recorded any info (did not thought on that), then I installed the original Australian Rom (at that time I was not looking for fancy Rom just for the latest upgrade and did not even know about cooked roms). Then I came back to the worl wide version because the autralian one was too bloated, not as nice as the black GUI and it was slower.
Finally I tried the HSPL2 to start tring with ROMs but it gave me an error message telling me I had the wrong version or something like that (I supposed because it is the Telstra version).
Then I tried the HSPL (older) but it gave me an error message telling me I need version 1.42.00. Here it get confused for me: When I do VolDwn + Power I get the following information:
PB81110 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.HSPL XE
0X05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
Serial
1st - Well I read that 1.42.HSPL was supported by HSPL so why it is not being accepted?
2nd - Why my unit is stating CotullaHSPL if I never installed it before? Cotulla comes with it?
3rd - Whats is HSPL in a interaction perspective? It is just a software that sit there and work alone without any GUI or it is something that does have a GUI that I can choose options and things to do? I am still lost on that.
4th - Sorry for the noob questions, but I apreciate if there is someone with patience to help me out (thats what I do when I can help someone).
Thank you
Felipe
Try reading the post about the HSPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
and this tutorial about flashing ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Concerning your questions (I'm no expert either, but here goes):
1. You already have HSPL, so no need to install it again
2. Cotulla is (one of) the developer(s) of the HSPL, sort of a copyright
3. HSPL is a peace of software that essentially allows you to install other (custom made) ROMs or ROMs with another language. It has no Userinterface, but loads the ROM on your device
4. Your welcome
Ok but how it happened to get in there if I could not install it?
Perhaps it came with Telstra?

No, it will deffinately not have shipped with HSPL installed.
Sounds to me like someone already hspl'd it and installed a new rom. (black gui?)
did you buy it second hand?

Hell no I bought it on Expansys, however the box that it came on had a picture of a Telstra one, with blue theme, but when I turned it on it was the world wide black theme and not the Telstra blue one, I changed it latter.
I even tried to instal the HSPL two or three times but it always gave me error messages and never showed the progress bar.
This is too strange for me.
Now I am very afraid if I really have the HSPL installed or a bugged or corrupt HSPL on it because of my failed tentatives.
what you guys suggest me to do to be 100% sure I have HSPL on it before installing cooked ROMs?
Thank
Felipe
i also bought a telstra version t9193 too. The seller ask me for permission to install the Official Rom for me. They state that i will have connection problem if i choose to stay with telstra's rom. So let them install HSPL and Official Rom since i don't want to deal with the connection problem when i have the device. I believe your seller install the HSPL and Official rom for you because they know u will have the connection problem.

Hello man, I'm brazilian to, so if you want send me a PM I will explain things better in portuguese
Think in SPL/HSPL/SSPL like a BIOS in a PC, it will help you to understand some things. The SPL/HSPL/SSPL are the first softwares that the phone loads.. Read more here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions?
If you phone shows HSPL on the bootloader and it boots, probably your HSPL is not damaged.
Stock phones does not comes with HSPL (that is secure unlocked), it comes with SPL. Probably the seller flashed HSPL on your phone.
So, it is simple to know if you have HSPL or not:
Reset your device - press volume down - Read the screen and if it has HSPL or anything similar, you has it!
Another way is more objective:
Download a custom ROM, then try to flash it via MicroSD method. If it flashes, you have HSPL, if not (security error), you don't have it
Does not metter what version of HSPL you have on your device, it will falsh any custom ROMS. **be carefull** ..................READ READ READ.......................
I sugest Sternas ROMS (ARTEMIS).. It has PT and is very stable.. Take a look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
I hope it helps!
Have a nice flashing
Digao100nocao,
I tried to upload Artemis with the MicroSD but nothing happens, not even an error message.
I changed the name and formated the MScard and copied it to the card but as soon as I get into the bootloader nothing else hapens. When I restart the old ROM is still in effect.
I can only upload it with the CustomRUU, but doing so does not overwrite the HSPL.
As more as I try more it is confusing and weird.
To make things even more scary this morning my earpiece stop working, now I can't hear anything thru it, I hope this is some software problem and I can get it to work.
What I want to do now is just uninstall the current HSPL as I do not trust on it anymore and reinstall a fresh new one. Problem is that I can't find an old version 1.42 to install it thru the MicroSD, only .exe files.

[Q] Error 262 Radio Stack

Hi
I am trying to get v2.15.50.14 on to my HTC HD2 6.5 device and getting the error 262. My HTC has 448MB RAM and 512MB Flash ROM as reported by the phone.
I have attached screenshots of the error. Searching around the forum it looks like the Radio stack is not compatabile with the HTC but can someone assist to confirm this.
I have attacjed couple of screenshots of the error. The software is being run in admin mode and the error happens after I get the HTC prohress bar on the phone and it sets at 0% and eventually timeouts with the error.
take out battery, wait a moment, try again
If it's just the radio that you're trying to flash, have you tried flashing it whilst the phone is in bootloader?
I have taken the battery out tried several times. Also tried on a nother computer same results. Also tried updating it from the bootloader menu and same result.
I am trying to put Win 7 on it and therefore as per documented steps updating the radio stack first.
Th Bootlodarer screen has the following info if it is relavant in troubleshooting
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x30
USB
Well, if you have SPL 1.42.0000 on your device, you should check the "readme" files about what is needed to run WP7.
HSPL 2.08 plus a specific Radio ROM is key to success. Please re-try.
Thanks, the readme that came with the package did not mention the pre-req. So assume HSPL 2.08 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433) will work with v2.15.50.14 stack? Will appreciate if you can point me to the thread that explains the pre-reqa for HSPL/Radio stack. Thanks again for yr help.
There are quite numerous threads mentioning HSPL as a mandatory step in order to install any different Radio ROM version - or MAGLDR, for that matter.
Check here.
Once you have HSPL on your device, you´ll be able to flash other Radio ROM versions, too.
In the same link above, you will see the other mandatory item: The Radio ROM must support the higher RAM. The latest Radio ROM Version which does is 2.15.
Thanks for your assistence. One final question (hopefully), I am bit confused about Radio version requiring 576MB ROM. My HTC reports 512MB ROM will v2.15.50.14 support 512MB?
OMG. You really should know your device. The european LEO comes officialy with 442 MB RAM and 512 ROM. In fact the device has 576 RAM. They are enabled by flashing 2.xx.50.xx Radio's. Unfortunately there is no way to get more ROM on the european LEO
Thanks for all yr help. Have Win7 running with SD card
No geeting the marketplace to go.
Issue's with the Marketplace will be down to not following all the steps required to alter the registry so that the phone thinks it is an HD7.
There are various threads in this Q&A section that will walk you through all the steps you need to perform prior to trying any LIVE services.
I believe that if you haven't carried out all the steps and have tried accessing Live services then you may have no choice, but to re-flash your device.

Getting HD2 back to stock

Ok, so I've got quite a bit of a problem here. Please keep in mind that I'm relatively new to this. I've only flashed my 3G Slide before to CM7 using Clockwork so this whole Windows thing is new for me.
I recently purchased a used HD2. The previous owner had some custom Windows ROM on there, and I wanted to put Android on it being a fan of the platform. More specifically, CM7. So I managed to get Magldr on it, Clockwork on it, and CM7 on it. Here's where the trouble starts. When I boot CM7 the touch screen no longer works. It doesn't respond at all. After some searching, it appears that this is a hardware problem, so I have to send it to HTC.
I have been looking everywhere for stock stuff, but every thread tells me something different. I "think" I got this right, but when I boot the phone with the Vol Down, I get -
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x50
I found a thread where someone said this was correct and it was in fact stock. Then, 30 seconds later I found a thread where someone said THIS was stock -
PB81100HX-BC
SPL-1.42.000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x30
And the 20 seconds later, I find ANOTHER post saying that THIS is stock -
pb8 ss-b3
spl-2.10.0000 8g xe
microP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x40
So, what the hell is the deal? Does it depend on the ROM? Can someone point me in the right direction please? I'm completely lost.

It doesn't make any difference what the various places say. Go to the HTC site and download the correct ROM based on you serial number. Extract the .nbh file from the executable you download, put it in the root directory of an SD card with the name LEOIMG.nbh. Put your phone into bootloader and it should ask you to install the OS. Then you will have the correct ROM, SPL, and Radio for your device.
EDIT: You need to update your profile to say where you live and who is providing your phone service; that way you will receive more specific guidance to your questions.

That's much more specific, thanks. So the serial will be the S/N under the battery on the phone I'm assuming?
Edit: I cannot find the official list of ROMS on HTC's site. When my phone is selected, under downloads, all it lists is the user manual. I'll keep looking in the meantime, but if someone could give me a specific link that would be great.
Edit2: After looking some more, all I can find are ROMs for other countries. All of them say "Not for use with T-Mobile(US)." I go to the US site, and it doesn't give me ANYTHING for ROMs.
Edit3: I decided to search the T-Mobile site instead, and there it was. So now I'm going to take your advice from above. Wish me luck.
Bumping with an update.
So I found it and got it on there. I still have one question though. What's the red text in the bottom left corner during boot? Is that supposed to be there on a stock phone? It doesn't seem like it.
Picture: http://i54.tinypic.com/107p3t3.jpg
Edit: One more question. When I flashed the official HTC .nbh to my phone, it erases everything right? What is this Task 29 program I keep hearing about?
any spl that ends 0000 is a stock spl. (not necessarily YOUr stock spl, but stock none the less.)
tmous stock spls are 2.08.0000, 2.10.0000 and 3.03.0000 (and possibly 3.05.0000 i think ive seen mentioned)
you can only get tmous roms from the t-mobile.com website,(or from various mirrors, but only officially from t-mobile.com) they arent on the htc website.
the red text is known as the RGD info, R for radio version G for protocol (dont ask me) and D for rom version, yes they should be there, they are always there on a working winmo rom, stock or cooked.
when you flash the flashing process performs a task 28, which only formats certain areas of the nand. task29 formats all of it, (well all the rom area anyway, not radio or splashscreen)
the reason its done is when you flash a new rom, if its smaller than teh original, some old data can be left sticking out at the end, which can occasionally cause instability,
Thats the theory, in practice its very rare, however it can be usefull to reset the rom area when issues have occured, especially after playing with android nand roms, which build multiple partitions. Personally i havent task29'd in about a year.
Many people offer it as step 1 in solving any problem, regardless of the problem, which i think is a bit extreme, and nearly always only works because you have to reinstall everything, and not really solving anything itself.

Thank you so much for clearing all of that up. I am going to take it down to T-Mobile tomorrow to see what they can do about it. Is there anything I should tell them? Because certainly they'll ask me why the phone is still at the tutorial portion as if it's the first time it has booted up. I'm assuming I'll just tell them I did a factory reset? I just don't want to get turned away because I "tampered with the phone."
Thanks again, this has been a huge learning experience for me. I'm more of a computer guy, and I've been trying to get into working more with phones.
enter bootloader, and so long as it says one of the stock spl's i mentioned above, and it is running a stock rom from tmobile, then it will be fine. Playing dumb is always a good idea, too. Yes say you tried a hard reset.

I've not had to take mine back to stock, but now that you mention it I believe it may use IMEI rather than S/N.

EDIT: It is indeed IMEI.

[Q] A Challenge for anyone who's up for it

My sincere apologies if this has been posted elsewhere (i can't find a thing and been looking all morning!).
I've ballsed up my HD2. Basically i tried to run sd card dual boot android thingy last night. Radio didn't upgrade as it should have and so anfroid didn't work either. So...today I tried downgrading SPL from 3.033 to 2.08.0000 so i could upgrade radio to be compatiable. To cut a long story short I used the downgrading post to do it and now i have upgrade rom error please try again. One positive note though....stuck on a lovely red green, blue and white screen (bootloader me thinks?) with spl showing as 2.08.0000.
Now....I thought i was slightly above average in terms of genereal public geeky know-how but this has certainly humbled me. I've been through the O SH*T I've bricked it (both me and the phone) and through dam....my wife will kill me, i'm now at denial thinking it will magically sort it self out (which it won't).
So please, apologies for the essay....can some help me out. Please go slow as I really can't do things without step my step instructions.
In a nutshell: can't get past bootlaoder and i wanna go for a poo because of it.
HELP!

I have no idea about HD2 but most smartphones would have a recovery option in its PC software suite. Try that if all else fails.

I'm not sure that would work, plus i don't think I've got the disc (had hd2 for 18months now).
It says:
HX-BC
SPL-2.08 0000 8G XE
MicroP (LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x30
Tried loading standard rom from htc site but after 1% it crashes.
Crashing your phone is definitely a cure for constipation!
HELP!!! Anyone? Tried HSPL and it didn't work, still stuck at bootloader. Have a bricked it?
You flashed the stock 2.08 SPL instead of Hard SPL. That is why it will not let you load another ROM.

Thanks for replying but, pardon my ignorance (i'm not very good at this stuff), how do I resolve this issue? is stock ROM the one that comes with the phone? I've ried putting different SPL through HSPL but stays at 2.08. What am I doing wrong?
thanks in advance

The SPL you put on there is stock, meaning locked so you cannot flash custom ROMs.
You need to run HSPL4 again, and flash HSPL 2.08 NOT SPL-2.08 0000.
THEN you can flash whatever the hell you want
Don't flash HSPL 3.03 unless you plan to just use a 3.14 based windows mobile ROM.
just tried that and it stops half way through process and put spl 20.8 0000 on it even though i asked for HSPL. whats wrong with it? any ideas? again, i appreciate your help. is this anything to do with radio (????what is radio??? lol)
now all hspl does is not do as i say, whatever i pick whether it be 2.08 stock and 2.08 hspl (or their 3.03 counterparts) it show spl of 2.08.0000.
to be honest i just want my trusty winmo back so i can make calls, to hell with android (for the moment lol)
Is it regular or tmous?
Regular - 2.x spls arent stock for regular, only tmous uses 2.x as stock, so that may be havjng an effect, though it shouldn't,,,,,
Run hspl2 (note that's hspl2) and choose 1.66.0000
If that takes ok, then go to htc.com and find a rom that your serial allows you to download and flash it.
Tmous - get latest rom from t-mobile.com and flash that. If usb flashing doesn't take try sd card flash.
In both cases if still no luck, try goldcard, pm me an emaik address and your cid and I'll make you one.
You could also try the "chill phone in bag in fridge for half hour before flashing" trick, which if it works means you have overheating issues.
Spl - any spl ending 0000 is a factory spl andwill not allow flashing except that phones stock rom.
just pmed you, dunno if i did it right, hopefully you got it. Unfortunatley hspl2 didn't work either, still 2.08.0000 on there. Can i work with this in any way? ie can i load another rom on rather than revert back to htc rom if it easier? This all began with wanting dual boot android/winmo but its gone belly up lol, still i suppose there are ppl that have bricked phones whch are worse off.

I'm afraid that hspl2 didn't sort it out either, still shows spl 2.08 0000. Although it does say successful, when booting up it says failed and reverts back to bootloader. Should i be pressing any buttons while it boots up (i'm not - only vol down key when i need usb port to work).
Could i have a goldcard please? What is a goldcad and how do i use it? I haven't a clie as you can see. MY email is ***********.
I really appreciate your time, I understand you must be busy.
Thanks again

ah i was afraid of it not working, , next i would suggest try hspl4, choosing 3.03.hspl or 3.03.0000, though again, i suspect the same thing,,, no change.
No real answer as to why it does that, i suspect a bad nand (memory) block, perhaps some memory flag that needs to be set but gets corrupted, , or something.
All i can suggest is trying hspl2,3 and 4 to try and change the spl to anything, , you have a regular hd2, so theres no problem, it should take any spl.
Goldcard is basically a magic sd card that makes the phone think it is in the factory, and lets you flash any STOCK rom from any region and carrier, and the phone will accept it as its correct rom. You can make them from any 4gb or smaller sd card, but i need teh CID (unique serial) of that sd card to send you the image which you write to the disk.
Problem is, getting the CID, , if you have another windows mobile phone you can use for 5 minutes that takes sd cards) then you are laughing, if you don't then you may be in trouble (although again, this is pretty unlikely to work if you really do have the stuck spl/radio problem, so if you cant make a goldcard dont lose any sleep)
Anyway, if you can get hold of a running winmo phone and connect it to your pc, then have a read HERE

If you cant get hold of a winmo phone, then you will have to google on how to find sd cid without winmo phone, , , ,get ready for an evenings reading and frustration!

No, only stock roms will flash on 0000 spl's.
your phone, if acting normally, should always take the correct stock rom, but i have myself had issues flashing a correct stock rom when i left spl as 2.08.0000, until i downgraded to spl 1.66.0000, however the dowbgrade worked, whereas yours isnt taking.
As for which rom should always flash, go HERE and the second one down is t mo UK. If your serial gets rejected when you try to dfownload it, then its not the correct rom for that phone.
Download that, and rename teh file from filename.exe to filename.zip, then open the zip, inside is a bunch of files, one is called RUU_signed.nbh, extract that and rename it to leoimg.nbh and put it on your sd card (4gb or smaller, formatted FAT32) and reboot your phone into bootloader, where it should start to flash.
thanks for all your help.
At the moment its stuck on loading...has been for 15min, i think i'll reset it. I did manage to get it on another spl earlier this afternoon but it was 3.03 and i didn't think that was any good for me so changed it back. i'll keep trying to get a hspl on it, i take it that after that i can put any rom on it (cooked).
I'll try my wife's touch and see if i can make a goldcard.
Thanks again, let you know what happens.
jusr reset it and spl 1.66 is on there but only flashes up for a second before a white loading scren comes up. reset it a few times after that and still no joy. htc rom won't connect to it!
its working! the sd card was still in the phone and i had put something on there this morning (think it was a radio or something which caused loading screen to occur) windows just lkoadiong now, hopefully it will work. I'm still up for android dual booth tho lol. if this all works then i think i might wait. Samsamuel, i really appreciate your help in all this!
Thanks again!

[Q] Freeze on HTC logo after installing MAGLDR... Is my HD2 genuine?

Hello,
At first, I would like to say that I know there is a lot of threads about this issue, but NO solution was good for me. I was looking and trying to do this a very long time...
So, here is what I got. I have HTC Leo (HD2 T8585), which now have HardSPL 2.08, radio 2.15.50.14 and Windows Mobile from sunnysoft stock ROM (and no other OS was installed before). After installing MAGLDR (nevermind what version, I tried all of them) I have freeze on white logo with green HTC text. Everywhere there was written as a solution, that there need to be HSPL and Radio in exact version, but I have them and it still don't work. Tried to do Task29, but it don't help.
Here is history of this device. When I got HD2, originally there was radio 2.15.50.14 and SPL 3.03. Then I did ROM downgrade (I didn't saw that there is HSPL4 method already, but it doesn't matter I think) and I got radio 2.05.51.05_2, SPL 1.42.0000 XE. I did HSPL and upgraded Radio ROM, finally getting this result: radio 2.15.50.14, SPL 2.08.HSPL 8G XE and working WM6.5 (so this is what I have now). And if I try to install MAGLDR it ends with a freeze on white logo. Does anybody have idea where I do mistake (or what I didn't pay attention)?
And I would like to write, that even if I have proper Radio ROM and OS with enabled more RAM, there still is 320MB. And Android running by Haret stays after "Jumping to the kernel"...
I'm wonder if my HD2 is genuine (I would not like to hear that it's HTC Pro Three or other prototype). It was bought after official release and sent to guarantee because of microphone not working after some months. Then I saw that P/N is different. Now I have P/N 99HJY005-00, but on BOX there is 99HJY005-02.
Is there any method to get it running? Also even if it displays 320MB, there is ~200MB of RAM and I'm getting free ~60MB RAM WITHOUT Manilla, sometimes even camera can't start... If I can't get Android/WP7 running, I would like to know which radio will get best battery life (now it can do ~24h, which is very short) and will give me more free memory.
Please, anybody, help.
Thanks, someb.
Regarding the second part about the memory,, ,, you say you downgraded to getspl 1.42 then upgraded to hspl and radio2.15.50.,,, then later you say that you have the requirements for unlocked ram, ,,you don't since it also needs a compatible rom. (Or magldr etc)
However the rest sounds odd .
I met the requirements, because I didn't write that I flashed ROM that unlocks additional RAM for test... and you know what? There was still 320MB...
And I know, it seems really odd.
Does anybody know what a problem is with my Leo? And can I send this on guarantee to replace motherboard without any problems?
Are you taking into account that the hardware takes 128Meg at boot, so a regular stock HD2 shows 448-128=320 as total available ram?
Yup, it's something wrong with my Leon, because even with a combination of different Radio ROMs and shipped or custom ROMs even Haret don't work. I think that when they were repairing my HD2, they switched motherboard. Even it's written "Made in China" on the back of my Leo. The P/N is different and even the IMEI is different now after repair.
