Hi,Ive got quite a unique problem here. About two weeks ago,my HD2 spent a good 10mins in the washing machine.Fortunately, everything is working as good as before.Except for the mic and the 'down' volume function. The actual rocker is good, its the hardware that is broken. I cannot find the replacement part for the volume rocker module, nor can i find a mic replacement part. However, I have been living with this problem for a week now,and its not a big deal really.I have been controlling the volume using the settings and ive been using the headset for calls. Now though,i updated my android build, so i had to select the boot source using MAGLDR.And i cannot scroll down!...so im stuck with WP7 as for now.Hence,i just want to ask if anyone knows if there is an alternative way to select the AD SD boot source without using the volume buttons?...otherwise, i have to run a NAND build or use WM again for android, cus they dont require the vol up down functions to boot.sorry if im asking the impossible...jus wanted to ask...u may never know!

Couple of days ago I noticed that my DHD's volume down button does'nt work anymore. First I didn't pay attention, thought that after restart it will be solved, but it didn't. The volume down function doesn't work in any software (up works just fine). Before I decide to go to warranty, what do you think, is it a software or hardware problem? There is no accidents or any damages happened, I know and physically the button seems to work. Please help!
Normally buttons are hardware, in your case its easy to tell.
remove the battery. Put it back in. Hold down the volume down then turn on the phone, if it starts normally your button is dead, if you get into bootloader mode it could be software and you should try reflash or wipe in settings

Thank you so much Blackhorse!
Although the first try didn't succeed (perhaps I didn't hold both volume down and power button long enough), the second try started the bootloader and I was able to use both volume buttons. After another boot the stock rom started normally and now my volume down function is back! Hopefully it stays so...
Hey guys,
My volume keys have died. Part of the wire strip that is connect to the buttons is torn.
Any ideas if there is a replacement upperboard yet?
having the same issue... going to try blackhorse's solution and see if it works
best regard
André
unfortunately it didn't work. I guess the volue down button is dead, even though I had absolutely no accidents with it.
does anybody have an idea of how to solve this, since I live in Brazil, but bought DHD in Germany?
any help would be very appreciated
best regards
André
same problem here, my buttons stop working. What I usually do then is lift the volume keys up slightly and slide some paper underneath to clean some dust and then usually it works again (for a while)
Hi every1,
Recently i have faced a lot of problems after my hd2 falled and screen braked - including the fact that mobile phone repair "fixed" my volume control buttons so good that after 1 week "volume -" button isn't working.
Atleast volume+ is working, so no problems with magldr and software rewriting will be faced.
So i have a q: can i do remapping of my hardware keys? I would like that the volume- and "search" button on hd2 wp7 would change their places, so i would be able to turn volume down when required(30/30 is very very loud), also would be nice to found out how to change the current system volume via registry editor(i think so it's possible). Also mb it's possible instead of doing things that i mentioned before - creating and easy app which would have 2 buttons Volume+ and Volume- so i could control whole system volume
So, i'm looking forward to hear from you soon guys and i hope so i would be able to enjoy music over headphones again,
Paul
Help guys, my phone went swimming in the sea. I turned it off immediately and let it dry off, but the volume rocker doesn't seem to be working anymore. It does not react to my touches, but is constantly pressing VolUp or VolDown (I can't tell which one).
When I first started it, I got a bootloop, so I went into recovery and reflashed my ROM. It is booting now, but only in safe mode (since the volume rocker is constantly pressing). Is there any way to disable safe mode, maybe via adb or something? Or to disable the volume keys software-side?
The OS is Jelly Bean by the way (not that it matters). Everything else is working perfectly fine.

Probably, you'll need to pull the phone apart, and either clean, or replace the small volume rocker board. You can find them on eBay for pretty cheap. It's usually only a last resort to look for software fixes for hardware issues. The Nexus 4 is relatively easy to disassemble and replace parts, since everything is modular. I don't know if you have Radio Shack or an equivalent in Germany, but there's a duo of products called DeOxit and ProGold. DeOxit cleans contacts (silver, copper) from oxidation, and ProGold increases conductivity. This might be enough to clean your volume board contacts enough to work without replacing it. Of course, it is possible that the logic board is damaged, in which case you might be screwed. Replacement motherboards cost as much as a used phone does.
To be honest with you falling in the sea usually means a dead phone, saltwater is highly corrosive.

Thanks, I'll try that. Can you tell me how the screw type of the Nexus 4 is called? So I know what screwdriver to buy.
torx 5 on the bottom, you need a small phillips for the inside screws.
Long story short my S5 got wet and I took it apart, but when I put it back together the volume keys aren't working. I'm not sure If I need to buy the midsection of this phone that houses the volume and power buttons or if I need to buy a new LCD glass. I think I may have cut the ribbon cable on the left side of the LCD screen. See the below image of how the two cables look like they should be connected but are disconnected. Every tear down and pics of this phone show these two cables being connected. Can someone please confirm if I did indeed cut this cable and if it does control the volume up and down buttons? I want to exhaust all my options before I break down and buy the midsection. If I did infact cut the cable then it will be a costly mistake. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I wish it were that simple as I have another problem with my phone, but in order to fix that problem I need to fix the volume button problem. My phone is stuck in boot loop from getting wet. It's unrooted and I could access the screen to wipe data when the volume buttons worked, but even after trying to wipe data it would still stay in boot loop. Now, If I help the volume down, home, and power button I could access the Downloading screen. This screen will give me hope of reloading a new OS, but I can't get to this screen till I can figure out my volume button issue. I"m hoping some one can shed some light to my question above. Thanks
I have a Samsung S4-GT I9505 with a volume up damaged or stuck key , so it always boots into recovery since the volume up is stuck and in order to get it boot I have to keep pressing on the volume down while it is booting .
I took my phone to many repair shops and no one knew how to fix this issue , I know that while I'm in the rom I can install any audio widget to get the volume up but to me this is not a solution .
please , if any one knows Samsung GT-I9505 volume key ways or any clue on how to fix this issue , kindly I ask you to provide me with your experience .
thanks alot in advance
Take the phone apart so you can see the motherboard, then reassemble the phone. Sometimes the buttons on the case get out of whack and press against the volume control buttons on the motherboard, causing this issue. If that doesn't work, replacing the motherboard may be your only alternative, as the buttons on the board are not user replaceable.

thanks for the reply , but I did took apart the phone many times and no success .
Then it's most likely the button on the board that has gone bad. I am presuming you tested the button on the board while you had the back off?
