genius button

For those who have the phone already. Is the genius button remappable to something else like search?
If not, is the genius button only activated when in the home screen. If you press the genius button in the browser or another application, does it bring up search?
I hope it is remapable. I use the search function a lot more than voice actions

Your local T-Mobile store should have a live demo for you to test it.

Pressing the genius button in an app only activates the genius software unfortunately. I haven't found a way to remap its function.

As of now, I am hopeful that someone makes a hack to remap the genius button to search.
What does a long press of the genius button do in home screen / other apps?
I hope someone finds a way to remap this as well, I will NEVER use voice commands, but I do often use the search key in Market and Maps.

It opens the genius software.

I really hope it can be remapped.. the genius button is useless for me, standard search is perfect :-(
I would like to think once custom roms start rolling out that will be addressed..

So there's no way to get to Google search other than through the widget? And to use Google voice actions you have to use the voice search app? That's too bad. I like the idea of having a choice.

[Q] Bind backbutton

Hi! Is it possible to bind the back button to end calls?
maybe in CyanogenMod ROMs, but I'm not sure...

Back button broken? Get Button Savior from the market.
I believe you can edit each buttons function, but the back button is pretty much essential, so you would be better using search instead.
Just edit the file at
/system/usr/keylayout/bravo-keypad.kl
I havent tried it but i imagine you just look for the word search and replace with endcall.

If u r on cm7 then u can make use of power button to end calls.
Go to settings/accessibility and check the option there.
And as said above I believe u can edit the keyboard layout at /system/use/keylayout/

I find it not so bad thing to not have one button more. As you can still call Search function just simply holding Menu button down.
It works that way in every app and homescreen as you would have fourth button for Search function.
Press Home to get home, Long Press to have list of last used apps (for multitask)
Press Menu to get menu, Long Press to make a Search for app or homescreen
Press Back to get back, Long Press to kill front application (great on CM7)
Only thing what I wish I could do, is to bind menu button in home screen (now ADW Ex) to open Applist and not the menu of ADW.

Voice search

Anybody know if there is a way to map long press of the home button to launch voice search?
I'd rather map long press of menu to recent apps.
I'm rooted so I'm hoping there I something out there that can do this.

you can disable s-voice when u double tap the home buttont hen use nova launcher and set it to open google search. i tried it with a display model but it didnt open up google now with the image header, just the search part of it. trying to figure out a way to do the normal way
Its possible to assign the home button to google now by double press instead of s-voice. You just have to enable this feature in sVoice settings. After that you have to disable the sVoice app in the application manager.

You do realise you can press and hold the menu button on the home screen to start Google now...?
If it didn't open up straight away and you just get the search bar, then press the menu button in the search screen and go to settings to turn on Google now. It'll open Google now the next time you press and hold the menu button from home.

Once I've set up Google Now on my phone, (as in turning it on in the search settings menu, opting in to the service, then selecting and setting up the 'cards'), when I long press the menu button, it does start up Google Now, in search mode with the cards all listed below.
OK, another option is to long press the Home button (with Google Now already set up, otherwise set it up as mentioned above) then press the square 'g' icon just above the Home button. This starts Google now in normal mode. If its not set up, then it starts in search mode only.
I get the OP's point.
Double pressing is faster long pressing.
It really is.
By the way, turning off the shortcut to Svoice (double pressing) makes the home button actions faster.

Ok, maybe im missing something here.
Ive setup Google now and disabled (and also uninstalled sVoice). Now when I long press home button, I get into recent apps and there if I touch G button on the screen I go to Google now.
Is it possible at all to start Google now just with a long press ? (Without a need to touch G button)

I didnt notice any difference. The phone still needs to distinguish a difference between a single press and a long press, right ? A single press gets you to a home screen.

The link above is for home2. You can use the app to assign google search (google now) to a double tap of the home button

Correct. Device still needs to distinguish between single/double tap & long press.
But omitting sVoice from the double tap resulted in single tap being faster. Long press action is more or less the same.
--------
I simulated it again just now.
I mapped s vice to double tap. Entered 4 apps and single pressed. Took about 2.5 seconds each time to go home.
Unmapped s voice. Took a second or a bit less.
I'll try to upload a video.
To reiterate, going to recent apa by long press takes the same time though.

Mapping Long Press Home Button

Has anyone been able to successfully map Google Voice Search to long press for the home button? My goal is to have a setup where I double tap home button for multi-task window and long press for google voice search. I've tried to map it through Wanam but it doesn't work. It just shows a message at the bottom saying "shortcut has been created" when I select a specific app for it to launch. If anyone know how to get this to work, please let me know...
Thanks!!

You can do it with the Xposed Additions framework module.

Oh man that's basically what I need but it doesn't look like it has the feature to launch a specific app yet... (ex: voice search)

I tried to set an app to launch through wanam xposed, but I'm not having any luck. After I select an app, long pressing the home button either doesn't do anything or it just launches google search... Has anyone been able to set the long press to a specific app? I'm wondering if using Nova Launcher conflicts with the function?
