[Q] Problem: HTC Footprint import kmz with image from google earth - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I think HTC footprint could be very useful software.
I could export the footprints to kmz file and use in google earth. However, when I tried to import kmz file from google earth, I only get the name and location - image is missing.
Anyone has ever tried the same? Did you success importing kmz file?

Just tried it with a KMZ exported from a HD2, which worked... Both importing as a KMZ and by extracting the files from within the KMZ manually (a KMZ is simply a ZIP archive). You can check the contents of the KMZ on your computer, to confirm images are being exported by your phone, by changing the ".kmz" extension to ".zip" and taking a peek inside the archive.
Also, which version of Google Earth are you using? Mine is 6.0.1.2032

My google earth is 6.0.3.2197
I find something very strange to the KMZ file.
Please refer to the attachment (since I cannot upload KMZ files directly, I changed the extension to ZIP)
- "Footprints_from HTC" was exported from my HTC mini. It can be imported into google earth but we cannot see what is inside by Winzip
- "My footprints_from google" was exported from my google earth. It can be seen what is inside by Winzip but once i import to my HTC mini, the picture is gone.
Can you help to download my files to check it out?
Could it possibly be my HTC footprint version issue? Anywhere I can download the update?
my ROM is 1.36.707.3 (94538) WWE

I don't think its a problem with your phones Footprints app. I've just download your Footprints_From_HTC.zip, extracted the files manually and it successfully imported it into Google Earth. I also changed the .zip extension back to .kmz and that also successfully imported into Google Earth. The pictures are definitely in there and the .kml file is not corrupted.
If you are using a Windows PC have you tried examining the contents of the .zip with Windows Explorer, rather than WinZip? From XP onwards Windows has built-in support for .zip archives. I'm wondering if something else is causing your computer to not handle .zip (or .zip based) archives correctly (maybe even WinZip?). If your computer automatically opens WinZip when you double-click on a .zip archive, try right clicking on the archive instead and selecting "Explore" from the pop-up menu.
Let me know how you get on.

Hi DJShadesUK,
You're right... Once I use WinXP to handle the kmz file, it can be open.
However, my main problem is still --- Once I import kmz file (from google earth) into my HTC footprint, the pictures were lost.
Could you help to download "My footprints_from google.zip" and try on your htc? I really want to know if the problem is from google earth, my HTC footprint or else.
PS: I found structure of the files are a little different because the kmz file from google earth will store picture in "files" folder. I tried to bring them to root folder but the problem is still
Thanks in advance.

I think I've solved your problem! It would seem that Google have changed the internal structure of KMZ files since HTC made the Footprints app. At a guess I would say the Footprints app doesn't know how to deal with "folders" inside a zip archive (which a KMZ essentially is), so we need to move the images out of the "files" folder and edit the doc.kml file. Follow the below guide and you should be okay:
Change the extension of the KMZ exported from Google Earth to ".zip"
Extract all the files from the Zip archive (right click on the file and select "Extract all" from the pop-up menu)
Open the newly created folder (the extraction wizard may automatically do this for you)
Move all of the images from the "files" folder to the "root" folder of the KMZ structure.
Open doc.kml with a good ASCII text editor. I recommend the free NotePad2 (click for direct download), Windows own Notepad app will not work!
Now do a Search and Replace (or just "Edit > Replace" in NotePad2). The string you want to search for is "files/" but leave the Replace With box EMPTY. Choose Replace All. Now save the file and close the text editor.
Right click on an empty space in the Explorer window and select "New > Compressed (Zipped) Folder" from the pop-up menu, and call it something like "Google Earth Export (fixed).zip"
Drag and drop "doc.kml" and all the images onto/into the new Zip archive.
Change the extension of the zip archive to ".kmz"
Copy the KMZ to your phone, import with Footprints and...
Unfortunately it appears you will have to do this every time you export from Google Earth and want to import to HTC Footprints. I've already checked if HTC have released a fix and it appears they haven't. Sadly I don't think they probably will either now.
Let me know how you get on

I usually sync to my laptop and D/L from there to my documents or another appropriate file on the phone. Click and drag, easy.
I need more info. You downloaded the cab file to your PC and then copied the cab to your device via activesync? Where did you copy the file to in your HD? Generally what I do is copy the cab file from my PC to my SD card via activesync. Go to my storage card via file explorer in programs. Touch the cab file, and it installs.
I downloaded HD-Tweak from here http://montecristoff.webs.com/hdtweak.htm, but the zip file does not show a .cab file? it only shows a .xml setup file, which, when I try to open, opens in an Opera browser?
you downloaded a cab file, not a zip file, which it looks like you extracted mistakenly as a zip file which is why you're dealing w/ the xml. Copy the cab file that you downloaded from your pc to your phone and then run it on the phone.
Alternatively if you have Cabviaactivesync installed you can just right click on the cab from your pc w/ the phone attached and select CabviaActivesync and it will start the installation on your phone.
I see what's happening. The cab file is what you downloaded. Inside the cab file is a bunch of things, one of which is an xml setup file, which I think you're copying and trying to install on your device. For whatever reason, after you unzip, your taken inside the guts of the cab file. You don't copy any of that. Close out of that. You don't open a cab file. On your PC, the cab file should be an icon that looks like a blue and white file cabinet. If you see that, don't open it. Instead, either drag the icon into your device via activesync or copy it into your device via activesync. Once in the device, go to folder in which you copied it and tap on it. It should then install properly.
Wow! thanks, it worked.

music player finds all sounds on sd card

hi
i have a qeustion, can you do so that music player only finds your music folder on sd cardand not all other music files such as navigation voices.
U can try changing the folder names you want to hide. You just have to add "." In front of the folder name and Android will hide them from searches. Don't know if the prgram, like your navigation, will still fund it or not. There are some programs in the market that help but I just got up and can't think of the names they've been posted before in this forum..

Hey this also works for images
1pen notepad in windows - you dont need to type anything.
2:Go to file menu and Save...
3: In the Save as Type: dropdown select All Files
4: Name file .nomedia (just that - include the dot - no extension)
Copy this file to the topmost folder of any directory you don't want to play music from.
Alternatively: If you have Laputa book reader installed look in the Laputa Books folder on your sim card and each book folder will have one of these files in it - copy it wherever you don't music to be found
nomedia
Also search for "nomedia" app in the market. It will allow you to exclude folders.

[TUTORIAL]How to Copy PDF/Office Files to your WP7 Phone Directly from Computer

hi folks, i finally got a way to copy office / PDF files directly from computer, these files will show up in Office Hub/ Adobe Reader's Document List
before you start, make sure you get TouchXplorer work on your phone.
1. you need to do some registry hacks to make the wp7 device visible in My Computer/ Explorer , here you can see the tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915664.
OR: Modify these Registry Entries
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_045E&PID_04EC&MI_00\6&210a541a&0&0000\Device Parameters]
"EnableLegacySupport"=dword:00000001
"PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell"=dword:00000000
"ShowInShell"=dword:00000001
Once you're done , CLOSE ZUNE, you should see 2 wp7 devices in your computer, they're exactly the same. just choose one open it and you'll see folders like Album Video Music etc, these are your zune folders.
[TIP], if you open your device/storage and see nothing there, you have to delete one registry key and reconnect your phone.
the registry key is :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_045E&PID_04EC&MI_00\6&210a541a&0&0000\
Device Parameters\DeviceSelectiveSuspended]
delete that key , and you'll see those Zune folders.
2. now we can copy files to the Phone and make them show up in Office Hub or Acrobat Reader.
first, pick one of the Zune Folders, never create one 'cause you'll never see it from the Phone. just use the existing folders , i recommend "Video" folder.
copy a file to the Video folder, eg. officetest.docx,
open your touchXplorer, goto "My Documents"\"Zune"\"Content"
you'll see folders like 0100 0200 0300 0400 0600, these are the music / pictures / video folders of zune, and all files inside are named using numbers.
now open "0400"(in my case, might be different on other phones, you have to find it yourself) and you'll see a folder named "02", open this "02" folder, what do you see?? yes,a "20.z"(the number varies) file, this is exactly the officetest.docx you just copied to phone.
rename the "20.z" files back to "officetest.docx" using TouchXplorer , double click the file ,it will open in office .
you can cut it, and paste to \My Documents of your phone, open Office Hub, you just have the "officetest.docx" there
even you renamed the "20.z" file and moved it to \My Document. you can still see the "officetest.docx" in the "Video" folder on your computer, you should delete the "officetest.docx" to save some space, it's safe, actually, when you rename the "20.z" file to "officetest.docx", the phone did a copy job , not just rename.
EASY Enough ???
3. well, you can do the same with .PDF files if you installed the Adobe Reader.
once you renamed this "xx.z" (xx is a number) back to eg. "mypdffile.pdf" using TouchXplorer, you may try to double tap the pdf file and open it. but to PDF files , it's NOT working, the adobe reader will say "invalid path"
I know exactly what's going on, office files are opened by office apps like word etc. they're WP7 Stock programs from M$ and got very high privileges, they can access any folders. but to poor Adobe Reader, it can only access its isolated storage.
so what we need to do is: find adobe reader's isolated storage folder and move the "mypdffile.pdf" there, you can then double tap the file and open it. and when you open Adobe Reader , you'll see the "mypdffile.pdf" right under the "Documents" list.
the Adobe Reader's IsolatedStorage folder is at
Code:
\Applications\Data\BC4F319A-9A9A-DF11A490-00237DE2..\Data\IsolatedStore
just put the pdf files here
-------------------------------------------
PS:
1. I'm chinese and my english sucks, sorry if you can't understand
2. the office program on WP7 and Adobe Reader 9.0 for WP7 really sucks
Nice Tutorial
Will check it out later.
Agree with you on 1 thing, Adobe of Windows Phone 7 sucks.
Office on the other hand is great.
please can you explain exactly what registry you must delete to see the folders thanks.....

DeviceSelectiveSuspended.
I think it's easier to email yourself with your needed documents, and then downloading it with the phone from the email.

to me , i have some huge documents , over 50MB each, i have to copy them this way 'cause no email service can attach such big file.
18MB
I sent myself an 18MB PDF file earlier today. Checked my email on my Windows Phone 7 Device. Clicked the file once (waited for it download). Then clicked the file again to open. Adobe Reader was blank for about 15 seconds then loaded it.
I used Windows Live Mail
Nice one, I will have a look to see if I can place mobi and prc files that are for e-book reading using amazon kindle in its own isolated storage area as well.
I am 99% confident that this will work just need to keep track of the new files and should only be needing a chang to .mobi or .prc for it show up in the kindle app (that is if you have tagged your books correctly)

yes , this would work, just find your kindle program's isolated storage folder.
i suggest look into your \application\install folder to locate the kindle program, there're a lot of GUID Named folders. open one by one until you find the kindle program, remember this GUID, and find the same GUID folder under \application\data you'll reach kindle's isolated storage

Oh no what have you done?
What ROM are you using?
If it is XBmod/yukixda back to the future ROM, which came out 28 AUG why are you using instructions dated January?
I don't know what those registry hacks do.
If you know exactly what you did, tell us Exactly.
If not I think you will have to re-flash the ROM.
Good luck.
Still nothing is coming up in the folder. What do I do? and there is no folder in there starting with 6 they start with 7?
you can copy the files by using the sd reader, and then open it through the file manager...

[Q] problem with files names extracted from archive.

Hi. i've got a problem with files from rar or zip - when i extracted them they have weird symbols in theirs names (originally they have polish special symbols like ę, ą). I can't remove them, also i can't use them. was using unrar, androzip and root explorer, only the lasf one could extracted correct files that i can open (ppt) but still have these weirds symbols (squares and so on). the other two are making 0 bites file. wnich way can i remove these files? is there any program to unrar correct file?

[Q] Photo download

When I try to download send to me on chatsite it is stored as a .bin file wich I can't open with any app on my Nexus 7. This happens with stoch browser and also with Boat browser.
Now my question is if it is possible to select an other format to store the photo or is there an app with wich I can open the bin file?
As far as I'm aware, bin files are very weird files.
Do you have a .cue file that came with the .bin?
If so, burn the .cue file to a disc, using Nero(or other burning software)
Then open it from the CD.
Please be more specific.
When I try to download a phote sent to me from a chatsite within the browser by longpress on the photo the photo will be stored as a.bin file but there is no cue file to accompany it. It is impossible to view the photo again after download, in the fiemanager there are just.bin files nothing else
Is the file from a trusted source?
It is just a photo sent to me inside a chatsite, nothing special
Pictures are usually not in .bin format.
.Bin files can be executable files.
Therefore they can contain viruses.
You could if you are SURE it is a picture file, open it with a viewer such as picasa on a PC and click "save as" and then save it as a jpeg file.
Transfer it back to your Nexus and view it on there.
Just to be clear it is a picture, right? As in a photograph of a landscape or a portrait of someone.
Because a .bin image file is usually a dump of a disc.
Yes it is a picture ans I will try with Picassa en let you know if it worked
