So the phone was really low, at 6% this morning. SO I put it on the wall charger. I saw the icon come up that it was charging and then put the phone down.
A while later I went back to the phone and saw that although the charger was plugged in to the wall and also plugged into the phone, it was NOT charging.
Using the phone I went to my contacts to check a phone number and then it turned off, due to no charge.
I plug it into the wall charger, the USB connected to the computer, as well as the car charger and here is what happens:
The top and bottom of the phone blink red for about 1-3 minutes.
Without pressing anything on the phone it automatically turns itself on, I see the Sony Ericsson boot screen, the Windows boot screen then my SPB Mobil Shell screen for about a second and then it turns off again showing and the blinking red light for about 1-3 minutes and then it starts the process all over again.
I think that a setting for Backlight/Power management was changed. As setting similar to "Only charge with usb", or "only charge when connected with ActiveSync" or somthing like that.
The problem is that I turned off the Active sync on the phone in order to conserve battery power so that I could look up the phone number from my contacts. And after I did that the phone shut off and I cannot change it, because it will not charge.
I do not have a different, charged, battery to try and do not think that I can find one easily.
Any suggestions?
Now when I see that the phone is re-booting(I see the SE logo), I use the stylus to to soft reset. It is obvious that there is some type of charge happening before it re-boots, , otherwise it would not re-boot. SO my theory is that by doing a soft rest between restarts, the battery will gain more of a charge each time. And possibly have enough of a charge so that I can go into my settings and see the backlight/ power settings have been changed.
So I took a battery from my old SE 902 phone and rigged it to work with my X2.
It booted up just fine. I was able to get into the menu for power settings. Nothig was changed however I did check the box "do not charge when connected to the computer" backed out of that screen and then went back into the screen and unchecked the box.
I powered down the phone and the screen went to the default charging battery meter.
I then put the proper battery in the phone and it was still blinking red. I saw it blink green for a few seconds, then I felt it vibrate, and then I saw the green battery meter. But after a few seconds it went back to blinking red and I could not see the battery meter again.
This seems to be happening intermittenly. As of right now there is a green blinking light and I see a dimmed battery meter.
Hopefully it will be fine, we shall see.
So it was charging for a while and now has stopped. I see the battery meeter, but there is no green bar moving up. and the light has stopped blinking.
I unplugged the usb and I still see the battery meter with no green bar moving. Installed the back cover and plugged the usb back in.
Now it is back to the red blinking again. . . ? ? ? ? ?
I think that it is a battery issue.
CAn anyone suggest why a battery would all of a sudden stop working?
Just ordered a new battery. $70.00!!! Ouch!!!
It does come with a battery charger for use with a Mini USB, but still, $70.00 is a lot of money!!
I will update with the results after i charge it up.
I got the new battery and put it into the charger. As I mentioned in an earlier post the new battery came with a separate charger for use with a mini usb. At first I had problems. The charger would not charge the new battery. I was using a wall connected mini usb to power the charger. So I went to the computer and tried the mini usb from there. It still would not charge. So I took the battery out of the charger and put it into then phone and went back to the wall charger and it was charging. I could feel the phone vibrate and then saw the battery meter slowly fill with green and back to empty and then fill green again.
So I decided to do a few other chores around the house and went to check the charging status after about 10 minutes. I noticed that the phone was on!! I did not turn the phone on. No one else was in the house to turn it on. It was just on. Weird.
So I took the battery out of the phone and decided to try the new charger again with the computer mini USB. It WAS charging this time!! I charged the new battery on this charger using the computer mini USB until the red light(charging) turned green (finished charging) and then put it in the phone. It works fine.
I then decided to put the defective battery into this charger and it was actually charging!! I left it overnight and it was green this morning: identifying it as a full charge.
When the new battery is down to 10% or less I will take it out and put the defective battery in and see what happens.
So I put the original battery back in after the green light came on identifying a full charge on the accessory charger.
It showed 1% and a message came up identifying that "the battery is low, please charge asap", something like that.
So, in my unprofessional opinion , the original battery is toast.
The new battery worked great after its initial charge using the included accessory charger.
When I decided to charge it using the phone itself with the wall charger I noticed some really weird things happening.
First of all you should know that I downloaded and installed Spoon Charge. Look it up here on the forums, free and works great. It basically tells you what charge level you have, temperature of the battery, what voltage is coming in to charge it and also type of charge the battery is doing: trickle, fast, very fast and on battery.You can set it to read reading at specific time intervals: I have it set to read at every second.
I noticed that the charge kept bouncing between very fast and trickle. At one point it went to on battery, then to trickle then to on battery then to fast.
Ok. Weird. . . I thought to myself.
So I let it continue to charge overnight.
The next day I "tried" to use the phone. it was as slow as it was at it's factory installed settings before I did the memory card fix, accelerator settings, and other fixes that I forgot now have forgotten that I have installed.
At this point I decided to drain the battery as fast as I could by turning on WiFi, Bluetooth, and play a movie at the loudest volume possible. As soon as it reached 10% I took the battery out and charged it with the accessory charger. The next morning I saw that the indicator light was green showing full charge and installed the battery in the phone. It booted up and I immediately received a message that the battery was low, saw 1%.
Knowing that this was a BRAND NEW BATTERY, I turned off the phone and took the battery out and waited a few seconds until I put it back in and rebooted the phone.
This time it said 86% charge!!!!!!
WTF!!!!
So I tried to use the phone and it was as sluggish as before. After about 25 minutes it was starting to be a bit faster but nothing like it was before.
I am really confused now. Since I have a new battery I have ruled out that as a problem. So now is it the phone itself? Could it be the wall charger that is faulty?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Another update.
I put the original battery in the phone and now it works!!!! The old battery that would not charge now charges and works!!!
The phone is not the same. Still really slow, can't get it out of the "LOCKED" position when I want to answer a phone call. Opera is sliggish then fast then sluggish. Not what I had the phone at before all of this started. It actually WAS stable. It WAS useable. Now I want to throw it into the drink!!!!!!
Not sure what to think anymore.

as the titel suggests, my x will not boot at all. i had it charging all night, took it off and it was at 100%. put it in my pocket and headed to school where i used it first period. went to use it in second, and i had the issue. In a matter of 3 minutes, I thought my phone died. I had my charger, luckily so I tried that... no response whatsoever. I then tried without battery and sd and finally got a response. With only the wall charger and no battery, the green LED flashes rapidly. I thought the battery was still to dead until i got to engineering where i tested the votage with a multimeter. 3.7 volts which is where it should be. It will not start at all, so theres no way to get to bootloader to sbf or anything. Any suggestions?
btw i was on liberty 2.1
I am not exactly sure about this method and I claim no responsibility if something bad happens to your phone, however search this forum and look for a "macgyver" method to charge you battery. Try this except put the spliced cables on the ports in your phone. I will look for the thread and post it here when I find it
I actually tried that, it didn't help. The battery is charged, I checked the voltage. I'm taking it to Verizon later and I'm going to ask to try a new charger, or battery.

I have seen a few posts about the charging issues and feel like doing something productive here in the 'General' (non-dev) section of the Kindle Fire that may hopefully help many people using Hashcode's awesome kernel. I am running the new AOSP jelly bean rom by hashcode (using the same 3.0 kernel used by many) and have figured out the behavior almost completely in regards to charging on my device so I am going to post what I have observed in the hopes to help out others and maybe sway those 'on the fence' that aren't wanting to unlock the full potential of their device because of this 'issue'.
I recommend always using the wall charger that came with your KF. Some of the threads where people are having actual charging issues they are attempting to charge through usb. I once owned a Dell Streak 7 where usb charging was disabled (charging light would come on but it would not charge) by Dell since there wasn't enough current to adequately charge the device. So ALWAYS (whenever possible) use the included charger!
I have never yet had any issue getting my KF to charge when plugging it in when it was TURNED OFF. Plugging it in immediately turns the device on and once it starts booting up the led indicator turns from green to orange and is confirmed to be charging when accessing settings->battery.
Twice since I have flashed the JB rom I have plugged in the charger while it was on (and waited about 30 seconds) and on my KF in the settings-> battery still showed "discharging". So here's my methods when observing various charging situations (and it's really simple) of ensuring the charger will work properly.
My device's charging indicator appears to work properly but is only on when the display is on (orange when charging, green when battery level is 95-99%, off when fully charged).
An oddity I have noticed (and also read somewhere else) is that the charging indicator orange led light has a tendency to turn on (and stay on) and confirm charging much more often when the display is on so I always have the screen on when plugging it in. It's still possible to start charging with the screen off and everyone's device will behave differently. I am not trying to discourage anyone from charging with the screen off. Again this is what I have noticed in regards to my device.
Make sure that the display is on when you plug in and if the led comes on then you're good. If not, sometimes it is delayed so wait 5 seconds or so. Sometimes you need to cycle the screen on and off once or twice and the led will come on. Always confirm in settings -> battery.
If you ever plug it in and have the led come on and it immediately turns off (this is the behavior where I have experienced issues) check in the settings-> battery and if it says 'discharging' wait 5-10 seconds. Hit the refresh button. Try cycling the screen on and off once or twice. If it still shows 'discharging' then unplug the charger. Start over from the beginning (this has happened to me twice).
That's about it. So if you are on the fence and aren't sure if you should flash any ICS/JB rom only due to concerns regarding charging... please do yourself a favor and take the plunge-the performance is incredible. Hashcode and other devs here have poured out their time and efforts to make our Kindle Fires AMAZING. If you like their work and efforts hit the 'thanks':good: button. If you LOVE your dev's rom and can't imagine living without it hit the 'donate' button so you won't have to worry about living without it.:highfive:

Great post, thanks OP. I had the same exact problems with charging. That said, the problem seems to have gone away now that I just flashed the [CM10] Jelly Bean ROM that @twa_priv posted. With this one, Google Now works (albeit without voice search), and I'm seeing the amber indicator even when the screen's turned off.

Edit: Scratch my last. Back to keeping the screen on. It was going well for a while until the amber light decided to go off. Ah well, guess we'll have to wait a bit longer!

It also charges even if the status is listed as discharging, and on mine it will be listed as discharging the entire time it is plugged in. It should also be noted that mine charges just fine, albeit rather slowly, via USB.
may i just add that if you have a battery monitor widget, like Battery Life, from the play store, most have a little charge icon that shows up when the device is charging, this has worked for me ever since hash first made his kernel and it was all buggy.

Same for me.
After I installed jelly bean, I started having charging issues. I would leave the kindle charging on the stock charger all night and it wasn't even at ninety percent. I then noticed that I could not connect the kindle top my computer, PC or Mac, not adb not usb mount, nothing. I even loaded Ubuntu on a stick and it was not recognized. I thought maybe it was a kernel problem so I went back to Modaco and I still had all the same problems.
Coincidentally, the same day I had left the kindle in my car. Maybe the heat fried something. Just in case I thought I would post in case this happened to someone else. I don't think a kernel could fry hardware across roms.

My two cents:
I'm running Jandycane 1.4 (by lithium), and I'm using a charger that came with an old Moto Droid. There is no LED indicator showing anything, nor does the tablet itself have a charging symbol showing in the task bar (no lightning bolt, doesn't say "charging" or anything).
Regardless of everything, the device simply charges when it's plugged in. Every morning, I wake up to a charged KF, ready to go
Trying to fix a family members xt907 so here's the situation which has been nothing but headaches for me:
1. The Phone is only 7 months old and the bootloader is unlocked so warranty exchange is out of the question. She let the battery run down until the phone died. Then without charging the phone she turned it back on and it died again. From that point she couldn't get it to charge or turn back on while plugged in. At this point she brought it to me.
2. I got the phone and did a soft reset which finally got the charging screen to come up (showed the actual charging icon and the fill meter would flash up and then back down periodically). Problem is it never went past 0% after charging all night. I went ahead and tried to power it up thinking maybe it was just a glitch with the charging screen. Phone wouldnt boot. Just stuck at the Motorola logo. Another soft reset and the phone finally boots but now the battery icon showed a '?' and status showed '5% - Unknown'.
3. Performed a factory reset. No change. So I used RSD to flash the stock 4.1.2 firmware/kernel/modem, etc... What I found strange here is that despite the low battery Fastboot AP showed battery as OK, not low and let me flash (bootloader is unlocked, not sure if that affects low battery flashing or if that safeguard just wasnt built into the M).
4. So phone boots back up and shows 7% battery. Plugging in the charger at first notice has no affect. Battery stats shows '7% - Not Charging'. So I unplug the charger and the low battery warning pops up. Plug it back in and phone still doesnt register as charging, but says 'Not Charging'. Then I notice that the lockscreen shows '7% Charging'. Weird. Regardless of all that, the battery was not charging. The percentage never goes up and after reboots the percentage will remain the same. The battery does slowly discharge on the charger if I have it powered on.
5. I tried flashing a couple different roms before flashing back to stock and all had the same problem. I've formated /system hoping it was a problem with the OS but it didnt help. All of these charging tests were performed with the stock Motorola usb cable plugged into the wall charger. I tested the Motorola charger against my S4 to verify it works and also tried my Samsung charger on the Razr and it made no difference. However, booting the Razr M up with the Samsung charger resulted in the '?' in the battery icon and a notification in the status bar saying something about a CommServer starting. This notification was persistant and could not be dismissed. If I reboot the phone with the Motorola charger or no charger then that notification and the '?' dont appear.
6. I should also point out that I opened the phone up and disconnected the battery from the board and discharged the board. As a last resort I completely removed the battery and peeled back the tape on the bottom of the battery to expose the + and - terminals on the battery and wired it up to a stripped down charger and left it for a bit. Upon putting the battery back in the phone it showed a charge of 30% but still had all the same problems otherwise. So the battery is capable of taking a charge, it just wont take it through the phone, whether powered on or off. Thats what leads me to believe the battery itself is not bad. Its not practical for her to pull the battery to charge it, obviously. The phone detects the cable being plugged in and I can transfer files via usb cable to/from the computer no problem, so I'm fairly sure the Micro usb port is ok. Just refuses to charge.
A little lengthy but I'm at my wits end on this and really dont want to have her buy a $50 battery and then its a problem with the phone. I dont usually get stumped when it comes to fixing something but this one really has me. So if anybody can shed some light on this situation it would be greatly appreciated.

I presumed you tried to wipe the battery stats via the battery calibration app? not that I think it would make a difference. another option is enable/disable USB debugging. you could also try charging into a PC or a different outlet (perhaps that outlet does not provide a good current)?
not really sure, just tossing out some ideas...

I actually installed cwm recovery just to wipe battery stats. Im assuming it works the same way but I'll give the app a try. I'll try anything at this point. Tried your other ideas already though and didnt make any difference.
I appreciate the input. I'll give that app a try and see if it does something different from wiping battery stats in recovery.

Doubt it. However, the issue seems to be with the hardware, and since it is not a software issue, Motorola could honor the warranty. Last resort would be to unroot and see if you can get an exchange.

have you tried a non moto cable? the one that came with my fone was total crap, would continuously connect and disconnect when i hooked it up to my comp or try to charge it, so i tried my old samsung cable and i didnt have any disconnect problems at all. just a suggestion

Did you ever find a solution? I am having the same issues with my xt907.
What did you have it plugged in to? The fact that it said it was not charging indicates maybe you didn't have enough power coming through the charging port...

No. Verizon finally sent her a refurb replacement. I got the battery to charge up by taking it out and rigging a charger to it. But the phone still wouldnt accept a charge with the battery back in and it lost the charge it did have 2-3 times faster than normal. Battery Stats also showed the battery was showing a pretty decent voltage so unless the battery itself has a low charge circuit that gets tripped I'd be hesitant to point to the battery itself. And the charger port transfered files just fine and the phone recognized when the charger was plugged in (would go from 'discharging' to 'not charging'. So yeah, I was left stumped. Hopefully somebody else can get this solved for you.

Just an update: I ended up buying a replacement battery and it fixed the charging issue. I rsd back to stock. Then, playing around with it, I booted to bootloader and selected "Factory" and it immediately booted back to stock, but, the battery had a "?" again. Ready to throw the damn phone against the wall, I rebooted it. The "?" is mysteriously gone. What is the "Factory" setting? I think I tried it before, but had CM10.1 installed. My theory is that this "factory" boot from bootloader actually soft bricked the phone. Either that or the issue was truly the battery and simply replacing it fixed things. I am up and running now, cm10.1 is flawless, imho. Thanks for the quick reply and I hope this helps anyone with similar issues.

Here we go again. Upon a reboot into recovery. Recovery is twrp 2.5. What I notice is the motorola boot img takes an extremely long time (2 minutes) to turn off and cyanogenmod to begin. Could there be something corrupt in the bootloader? Is there any way to reload the bootloader on this device? Anyone have any ideas? Could it be Recovery?
I have a Verizon Note 3 which I have had for about 2 months now, and today I was coming back from a cold trip and plugged it into the car charger via the stock USB cable, and the phone reported a gradual decrease in battery life, from 1% to 0%, indicating that the 12V connection from the car adapter wasn't charging it adequately.
A moment after it reached 0%, the device completely turned off. From that point on, I could not get the car adapter to charge the phone anymore. Thinking it was a limited volt connection with the car adapter, I gave up. Later in the day, I got home with the Note 3, and attempted to directly connect it to the wall charger via the stock USB cable, and to no avail nothing turned on and I did not note any activity.
I started troubleshooting by removing and re-inserting the battery then plugging it in, and that failed. I also tried with another regular micro-USB charger, for a standard Android device, not like the proprietary Samsung charger, and it did not work. Also, I tried connecting the charger directly to the device, without the battery attached, and that did not work. I even tried holding down the power button and home buttons for extended periods of time, but absolutely nothing flashed, beeped, and the screen did not turn on.
Please offer help, I need to know what else I can do.
I'm assuming you've tried just leaving it on the charger for a few hrs before trying to turn it on... Also, double check the connection between the battery and the phone.
Other than that, you've tried everything I would suggest. It is "possible" that the usb connection on the phone may be the issue. Next thing to try is walk it into a vzw store. I'm sure that thay have a spare battery to use and boot the phone up to verify that it charges. If it charges, maybe it's the battery? If not, it's equipment related and you need a new phone.

I'm sure that thay have a spare battery to use and boot the phone up to verify that it charges. If it charges, maybe it's the battery? If not, it's equipment related and you need a new phone.

I have already tried to isolate the issue with the phone's battery, it seems as if I should be getting a notification or activity by just plugging the device in directly without the battery, but nothing appears even with that. Therefore, I have eliminated that it is an issue with the battery, and it is unresponsive with or without one. There would not be a point in leaving it to charge. I will have to contact either Verizon or Samsung customer support.
I had this problem happen to me before and I left it on charge for a few hours, I didn't touch the phone at all then all was good after a few hours.

So I've had some time, and I first took the device into the Verizon Wireless store for support, and was handed a phone number to call. After a large amount of hassle over the account password, I managed to speak to a Verizon rep who told me that if I was to send the phone in after receiving the replacement and "user damage" was detected, then a $400-500 fee would be automatically applied to the account.
With no clear definition of what "user damage" entitles, he gave me the option to go to the Verizon store prior to the mailing of the phone and have the reps look at it there to determine any damage. If damage was not detected, then the reps would log it, and I would not have to pay the fee.
Does anyone know of the alternatives that Samsung provides? So far my experience with Verizon support has been sketchy, and a hefty fee is possible. Has anyone had any experience with this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.samsungadh.premium?
Otherwise, I'll see if I can deal with Verizon and have them send me a new device, then see what Samsung can do for me with their device repair.
What's being referred to as "user damage", is their suspicious that the usb port may have been damaged by you. Which is possible, I guess. Would have been obvious to you if you did it. Just to be sure, carefully check the internals with a toothpick and see if anything feels loose. If you think it might be, they're gonna say it's your fault. Did you buy warranty protection? If so it will cover that and will only run you like $100-150 for replacement.

Solved
It turns out I simply connected the device to my computer and let it charge and it seems to function properly. Now I have it connected to the wall using the wall charger, and I am getting a weird phenomenon of the battery percentage actually going down while the charger is connected and the charging icon is displayed. I will provide further details later.

Now it has gotten to a point where it will charge in the computer via the USB cable, but not in the wall with the same USB cable. It is odd, because the phone shows a charging icon but the percentage actually goes down. What is going on? Please help!
try another charger. like everything else they can go bad. eliminates it as a problem if nothing else.

The device has worsened to a point where it will not charge either through the computer or through the wall charger, and when I attempt to turn the device off while the battery is charging the screen flashes and a line appears, accompanied by a continuous vibration.
I never expected to have this many problems with the phone. Is it even the battery that is the issue anymore?

I'm assuming that you are not rooted? You need a new phone. But... you said u went to Verizon, did they do anything or stare blankly and point at a ceiling tile? It's possible the battery is borked. But yoh could only check that with another battery...which at the very least a store could do! Just plug in and see if it charges +1-2% with another battery. I only ask this cuz if you replace the phone, I don't think that they send a battery. Don't want you getting a new phone, same battery, and same problem. Just for s**ts n giggles, check that the telltale water damage strip on the battery is still normal...

Oh no.......god no........the sticker on the battery has red Xs on it. I put it in a bowl of rice, the most I saw was dew on the front over the weekend, I did not submerge it or anything. I do not know if it was triggered prior to this weekend.
I was wrong
It turns out red X's mean that the phone is perfectly OK and no water damage has occurred. It is when the entire sticker is pink that water damage is indicated. This still doesn't solve my problem of it still having problems....I'll take it out of the rice and try turning it on.
status
To confirm, I am currently having a problem with the phone displaying the charging icon in the status bar and not actually charging when plugged into the wall, and instead vibrates every second and has odd orange lines and the screen flashes when the device is turned off and "charging".
When connected to the computer, the device has a RED LED light and displays the powered-off charging screen just fine. The device turns on fine, and charges normally, however with a gray charging icon, not a green one.
Another thing I noticed was that the battery went from 9% to 2% just in the time I connected the phone to the wall to the computer in the span of < a minute.
I had visited the Verizon store once and was told the store did not have the battery in stock, and I would have to call for a new phone + battery free of charge, as long as no user damage was detected on the returned defective device.
At this point, I am so confused to what is happening, I think you were right Lefty when you reccomended I should request a new battery AND device.
What jerks. There's a battery in the floor model. Oh well.
And to be honest it sounds like the battery is not the issue. You say it vibrates every sec or so? Sounds like the cable is not making a full connection. Kinda like it detects a connection. . Oh! Nope, no connection. Connection. Oh! Nope.

A little late (actually almost two months), but I have returned the device and above all of these other reasons it turns out the problem was actually in the software. When I went to reset my old Note 3, it turns out that it actually started charging properly after it was reset. Very strange, but a heads-up to anyone else having this problem to try that before you return your device.

Yeah I just tripped across this thread and was going to say to try to charge it in recovery/safestrap mode. If it's software related in the ROM, it would indeed charge in recovery mode
