[Q] Ghosting? - Xperia Play General

Hi
I got my Xperia Play a few days ago, I noticed some ghosting playing the bruce lee game but I thought perhaps it was some motion effect, however when in the menu black icons like iplayer and bruce lee icon have some ghosting behaviour too. I'm wondering if this is normal? I haven't heard anyone mention it before, I found 1 reference on google I think, perhaps I got a bad screen?
I have a UK unlocked 2.3.2 phone.
Thanks

Your phone is haunted.
...
Try somehow uninstalling Bruce Lee from the SD CARD (root maybe require) and reinstalling it, that will make it up dated

Mine has ghosting as well.. but I don't notice it in regular gaming or videos, just when I move around widgets or the app screens.

I havent noticed any ghosting, i use quite a dark theme though, so maybe it's just something i havent noticed.

There is ghosting, which is a lcd refresh rate thing. All lcd's have this ghosting, to varying degrees. AMOLED screens however aren't affected by this, so going from an amoled to an lcd makes it more noticeable.

Touchscreen response jumpy/laggy with Angry Birds on A70

As the title mentions, touchscreen response on my A70 seems laggy or jumpy when playing AB.
Basically, when trying to do the fine adjustments to aim, the A70 wants to jump around several pixels worth of movement. (sometimes up to about 1/4 the hight of a bird) On my Nexus 1 and G-tablet I could adjust aim down to pixel sized movements.
It may be due to being close to the screens edge, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. It is not a constant issue, but touchscreen response definitely seems less precise all around when playing the game. Most other apps I use do not need such fine adjustments, so I can not tell if this happens in them as well.
Edit: Downloaded a multitouch tester. (multitouch vis test) This app plots your finger with x,y cords and a visual dot. When moving slowly, both tracking methods made small jerky hops rather than following my finger smoothly. I have never had this happen with any other android device. And yes, I did try the screen calibration in settings several times.
No one else have this problem?
I have this as well... pretty annoying.

If this is common, then thats unfortunate. If it is rare then we know that we need to talk to archos support.
Are you in fw 2.0.71 ? I think is firmware related problem. I downgraded to 2.0.54 and have much fewer problems. And a faster a70 (z4root and SetCPU 1000mHz)
Hi there, first Message from me and first Touchscreen device...
i think it is because the wires of the touchscreen are not so close together.
When i look at them, the distance of them seem to compare to the "jumps" you mentioned.
But i have no other device to look at.
Are you using an App Killer before starting Angry Birds? I use the System Monitor to kill all unneeded applications to get at least 90 MB of free RAM before started Angry Birds and it runs very smoothly with excellent response from the touchscreen.
Bye.

No, but the multitouch test app is not a RAM heavy app and it also has this problem.

please try: Settings->Repair->Touchscreen Calibration
Hi _nz_
Did you read the op last sentence.
"And yes, I did try the screen calibration in settings several times."
I have noticed this same issue on my 70.
Hmm, maybe I should start a poll. Try to get a rough guess at the ratio of those with and without this issue.
I also have this problem with my 101. Sometimes the game has frozen completely. I mean freeze as: the screen freezes but the game continues. I can hear the audio still. If I am firing off a bird it will freeze and I can hear the bird continue to fly and break things but can't do anything about it. I have to exit the game and then jump back in. Really annoying when you are at the last move to beat the level. :-( There doesn't seem to be any fix that works for me of the things I've tried. Very frustrating. Still love the unit though!
I don't see this issue on my 70. I'm not too good at ab though, maybe that's the reason.
I see the same issue on my 101. Hard to make fine adjustments.

Agreed. Kill other apps to gain more memory before playing AB. It will then plays smoothly.

This has nothing to do with the game not playing smoothly. It is about touch screen response. I have the same issue when using a 150kb multitouch visualizer app on a fresh reboot.

Screen flicker?

I see this sometimes in the browser, but occasionally when playing games too. I'm chalking it up to a software issue since it only seems to happen when either rendering webpages or games (never on home screens or when watching vids, or in any other apps). Just wanted to be sure, though--anyone else?
I've seen some flickering while playing Angry Birds. Haven't seen it any other time so like you I'm thinking/hoping it's not a hardware thing.
I've seem some flickering in one game only-Nano-Pandas (full version, the lite version didn't have this problem). Sometimes while using flash.
i get the flicker consistently when i scroll in the fb app
It's becasue you're all suffering from tomkingtons desease, meaning you are constantly blinking five times a second, surprised you haven't noticed it before
i have noticed it when opening the browser, was worried but home screen and video play back are okay so I also assumed it was software related

+1 But don't see it elsewhere, which makes me thing it's software...
Ah good, it's not just me then. Either something in Honeycomb or Asus' kernel, perhaps. Cool, thanks guys.
It's a known honeycomb software bug, some transformers will periodically flicker when using the stock browser or certain games.
And I thought my screen was failing... I noticed flicker AFTER the 3.1 update...

I see flicker while playing PvZ HD but not in Fruit Ninja THD.

Screen flickering in direct sunlight?

Hello,
I picked up my GS4 about a week ago but haven't really used it in direct sunlight until today. I was outside, and the sun was shining brightly on the screen. Home screen was fine, and darker images were ok, but if I were to go to an app with a primarily white background, or open up something which used the keyboard (texting) the screen would flicker pretty noticeably. Brightness is all the way up, and auto tone was off.
Has anyone else seen this?
yup this is normal esp when using the keyboard.
Im not sure if it will be fixed.

I guess my question is, is this a hardware issue with many GS4's or a minority. I came across a thread on the Tmobile GS4 forum where people were experiencing it, but it seems not everyone is.

Its a hardware thing, but also its only in touchwiz so a developer might be able to turn it off so to speak.
It adjusts the color and tone no matter what to save the display from overheating and or burning in...
Does it a lot and I notice it cause im weird about those kinds of things.
If you use CM 10.1 or AOKP its gone.
ive made some progress with the RGB light meter on this; hoping a friend can write up some code so we can test out a 'smoothed out' transition and sampling rate and one that is sped up, averaged faster, but will take up more CPU and RAM and battery but more accurate.
here is another thread regarding it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280715
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284726
Maybe if someone who is using CM10 or AOKP could test it to see if it is a software issues and not a hardware issue?
edit: slade and jet replied while I was writing this...thanks for the info. looks like it is touchwiz related.
edit2: just went out in the sun again to test a lot of different options in the display settings (which none worked) but is seems it is only happening when the keyboard is enabled. I am using swiftkey.
yeah TW and that sensor communicate; i believe the sensor itself probably works better ALONE, but TW changes it and throttles it for either battery or screen safety.
It is always dependent on what is being pulled up on the screen, though it can be mitigated quite a bit if you disable all power saving and screen auto features, and leave brightness under 80% or so.
yea anything under 80% in direct sun is basically black. all power saving and screen auto modes were disabled. i covered up all of the sensors too and it still flickered....

Not just a sensor thing per-say.
It's hard to explain, they most likely did it because they didn't want the amoled to burn in.
Its the same reason why the brightness goes up another 34% or so on auto above the max brightness. Only uses it when needed to save the screen and battery.
Does it on youtube too btw, bring up a video on wide screen then tap it and you'll see the drastic color shift
I noticed this thing when I got my phone also. I thought I was just imagining it but I guess it's an actual problem

No that's not possible, its hard coded into touchwiz, this isn't a bug or anything...
If people say they don't have it; they're not noticing it.

Thought my eyes were going crazy. Mine does this too. It even did it once under some fluorescent lights. It's not annoying enough to matter but it would be cool if it gets fixed.

Post in the Waze forum about it. However, I thought this was already fixed in the last version released a few weeks ago (From changelog: Full support for 1080 pixel devices)
But my xperia z is 1080p too.. and it doesn't any problem?

I use Waze everyday and have no issues. I've had mine for a well but I'm using the SM-9005 Snapdragon version.

BTW, the missing tiles issue has been a long standing random issue for a while but it's usually one or two tiles off in the distance, not ones up close. So if you're on a good connection (say wifi) and you just randomly scroll around, do you see tiles come and go (like.. they're loaded, but don't show sometimes) or does it refuse to load certain tiles? I've seen both behaviors, but good information to have if you post on the Waze forums.
Blurry/fuzzy fonts was a problem a year or so ago, but hadn't heard of it again since.

Graphics issue (Need help)

For some reason all my games textures are covered in black I don't know why. I need help fixing it please. Im on a G950FD renovate ice 5.1 rom with TGP kernel.
Here is one example of how all my games look! It won't let me post a photo... so just do this.

Have you tried lowering your game graphics settings, maybe your Samsung can't support the game's settings?
Try lowering your game settings and close other RAM intensive apps before playing again. Let me know if it does anything different.

I lowered the settings to very low and put spectrum to gaming profile and it still is black textured. In doom 3 all gun smoke particles are black, blood on the ground is black, glass is black and bullet holes and flash light beam is black. Is it transparent things decals or what..? I saw a youtube video on doom 3 running on a galaxy s8 and they dont have black textures.
here have a look at the blood i got a photo of it showing half of what its supposed to look like and half when its black.

just highlight it, right click and go to.
I saw even the first image you sent.
It might not be your phone's issue after all.
Try to install an almost similar game (same specs and same game-type) to see if your phone renders it correctly or not. Then you will be able to gauge if your phone has issues or is just the game full of bugs.
Let me know
