Hi everyone
is so difficult do a custom rom for Neo with a normal jpeg compression ?
2mb for a photo can be sufficient in my opinion
not 1mb !!
SE doesn't works in this direction, probably for the conflict with the Arc market
but we can do something or not?
The high compression issue is also present in the arc

On the neo the compression doen't arrive to 1mb
is less, and landscape are terrible
is so difficult change this setting by a custom rom?
You can use other camera for lower compression. But you want the stock camera app to work right? It won't work in custom roms.
I have tried, and still trying to mod the stock camera but without SE source code, I cannot continue. Plus now with the new update, the stock camera app has again updated. I don't need to change it to show better on higher lcd density. It now just scales perfectly to whatever density I put the phone into.
Same as with other xperias. SE stock cameras just don't work with custom roms.

I know this seems like a question - but i just read on Engadget that NODO-GT was able to modify the camera to shoot 20mb and 0 compression.
I know the Galaxy SII has an 8 mp. But is it modifiable to reduce compression as well?

intresting
Hmmmmm. could be.
there's many hidden features in stock framework are not implemented.
video recording pause for example.
HTC stock camera contains a lot of conpression due to HTC Sense camera enhancement mode. Thats why disabling it to total zero would give out the best RAW image out of it so you can alter the pic yourself without the dirty software auto correction
Im not sure bout SGS2, seems like not many devs are interested in the camera part for SGS2. They keen towards audio more but not much progress has been made throughout the year

True - thought I think be devs - you mean Supercurio. I'm not really aware of anyone else.
I saw one Dev that did camera but for video recording (and sound). It would really be great to be able to fine-tune the camera for better quality and performance!
they didn't give us the botton to switch the iso
how can they treated us like this
i just had have high expectation on them, now i'm so disappointed
and how's everyone's thought of the new camera apk
the size of those photos really improved, but i just can't distinguish the 2.3.4 & 4.0.3 's photos which has the better resolution
ISO switch is either not implemented in camera driver or the sensor simply doesn't support manual ISO switching.
Do you mean that the sensor itself doesn't have the ability to be changed its iso by user?
Correct.
The camera performance is better after the ICS update, though the JPEG compression is still aggressive and that's never something good. I mean, zoom in after you have snapped one picture and the loss of details is horrible.

Ive had a few phones sony phones now and as far as i know you could neva have changed the ISO level, my xperia pro doesn't and my x10 mini pro didn't ether, i didn't even know it was possible on a phone, out of a matter of interest what phones support this?
manual ISO setting
Hello,
I think with the App CameraFV-5 you will be able to change ISO-settings manual.
But i don´t regognize any diffenerent in the Pictures.

Of course Xperia S has a totally different camera hardware-wise and it is an entirely different story firmware-wise...

The Exmor R sensor is improved and newer on the Xperia S, that's why it supports the manual ISO-feature, specially camera driver softwarewise, compared to the Arc S.
It sucks though that the macro mode is removed, Arc S macro setting is one piece of fantastic eyegasm on real close-up shots!

how about video recording ?
I noticed they are so laggy, already you can find some tests on youtube made by an italian forum boy.
it's a bug i think, ram management isn't releted to video recording, and in ics the system could be slower, but the cpu is the same and the gpu also
so, why not smooth video ?
I had high hopes that ICS will improve the camera, these reports are a big dissapointment.

Then we're 2 about that. The improvement is there, but not at the level that I (and many others) hoped for..

Yeah, but I use normal mode and chose the stuff like macro on my own, that's impossible now
Sent from my LT18i using XDA Premium App
The camera performance is not good on my Arc. I'm hoping it's because I'm using Arc S software on my Arc but the ISO seems to be locked on crazy high.
Looking back at pictures taken on 2.3 seems to be most commonly between 80 and 160. On ICS it's defaulting to the region of 320 with the lowest I've managed to get it being 160 (and that was using night scenery mode) and sometimes going up to ISO-800 taking a normal picture indoors in descent lighting! Something dodgey is going on here.
Someone needs to somehow come up with a fix to sort out it's mental auto-ISO settings.

I didn't notice this flaw until you mentioned it
Truely, when I was recording the car's movement,I could easily find it moved not so smooth just like there's a traffic jam
And I was surprised to know that the frame is only 26fps
Hope Sony rectifies these issues and fix them in upcoming ICS update for Xperia arc
Is there an app that uses stitching from the panorama function to create higher res images? I was thinking something like moving the device in a small circle (in a parallel plane to the image), then the app uses the overlaped images to create a single new one with a higher resolution? I know there are apps that "increase the mp" of your camera, but it's just copying and pasting pixels for the most part.
Is this even possible? Or is my logic completely wrong.
I feel like, unless my camera is abnormal, you're better of getting a box of crayons and drawing what you see than using the iconia camera.
I agree, the camera isn't great. That's why I'm wondering if there's a way to make it better.

I have to agree that with the .021 build, image quality is a lot better than .014. Although not comparable to my Canon
MD
Is there any tweak to make the picture quality become higher? I know there is tweak to increase the picture size but I was wondering if there is tweak to increase the picture quality.
there good apps for better pics, have tested Camera Fx,FV Camera and with this the pics are better as with normal app.

It may increase graphics quality of your cellular screen but don't do any thing for camera!!
But I found no change in my device with this bravia engine & also u may not!!
Try to use camera fx!! Which is better than stock one!!
For cellular screen quality you have to increase ur phone brightness!! Drains battery faster than before but it bright colours make the screen beautiful!!

I know that MP can not be increase its a hardware thingy ..what I mean is that quality can be fixed in photoshop or other software it only change coller depth and stuf so it looks a bit bether picture is stil 2MP .
There are still people out there that think they can increae MP
Never use camera in night mode (it'll noise), never use zoom foor better photos quality, use camera hack to hack the resolution if you wish to change it :good:
I haven't tried this, but check this out

Why custom ROM camera cannot defeat stock ROM camera quality?
Because it can and does? Stock rom has awful side effects like aggressive sharpening and noise reduction. I hated it and had to mod my system files to get decent photos. Unless the custom Rom you are using has bad camera library files or something, I don't see why it wouldn't be a major improvement over stock.
I know some custom roms, like the pixel experience one, are supposed to have camera2 and HDR+ out of the box. Maybe it depends on the rom?

Well , the motorola magic tricks aren't good at all .
Just look at the agressive noise reduction and oversharpening.
I think side loading the google camera app on the custom roms might help.

They aren't on XDA... yet. I wanted to add them to my camera mod guide here but haven't gotten around to it yet. Savitar is defcomg here on XDA. He's a pretty awesome source of information on this topic.

Can you post these mods here and also if you can ask savitar to mod camera lib callibration as pixel2, cause both got the same sensor and having pixel2 callibration will surely improve camera quality.

Actually, Savitar said the Pixel 2 calibration was worse than the one he's been using, aside from adc noise profiling and color calibration. The rest was unusable/ didn't enhance.
There's a thread where I've tried to gather relevant links and information about the camera here:
