Need to know an application that can do this... - Desire Themes and Apps

I have HTC Desire and X10 Mini. Both of them connected to a single Wifi Router. What I want is to share a Folder or the whole memory card of Desire on net and then allow X10 mini to browse the HTC Desire stuff and copy videos and other files from it.
I already installed Samba Client "Samba File Sharing" that allows me to make the SD card avaiable on Network as a shared folder. But I cant use X10 mini to browse those folders using EST File manager.
Any other Setup apart from the above would also be helpful
Thanks in Advance...

Try SwiFTP FTP Server from the market then access using ES FileExplorer

really guys i am waiting for a detailed answer... Not 1 -2 sentences...

I use File Expert from the market to set up ftp server on phone. I think it could help you...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

1. Install SwiFTP FTP on desire
2. Fill in user name and password, doesn't need to be complicated unless there is some one on your home network you think will try to access the desire.
3. Set keep in folder to /sdcard
4. Tick keep phone awake for best performance, but keep an eye on the battery
On X10 mini
1. Install ES file explorer. Any other ftp client should do but I'll give steps for what I've used
2. Press menu and select new
3. Enter the ip address of the desire
4. Set port to 2121, unless you changed it in SwiFTP ftp server
5. Enter the user name and password you set
6. Tap OK and you should be good to go

dropbox ?
But if it is for videos, it might take some time to upload.

File transfer using WiFi (WLAN) - is it possible??

Hi everyone.
After searching through the forums, I couldn't get any satisfactory answer.
1) I have THD and Elfin - both WM devices. My question here is, how can I transfer files ( like Fotos, M$ office Documents, Music etc. ) using WiFi or to be precise WLAN? I do not wish to use Wireless internet to send files....I mean to say, without using any thrid wireless device, how can I enable file sharing between these two devices??
I have checked out Resco file explorer and Total Commander. None of them provide option of FTP over WLAN/WiFi.
2) Similarly, how can I transfer files between my WiFi enabled Laptop and THD/Elfin???
Is there any setting to be changed in existing devices, any 3rd party application?? or is it a call for Developers?
Big Thanks Ahead.

I preffer FTP protocol as there are many clients on Windows/Linux. On my blackstone I use Mocha FTP Server (freeware). Total Commander CE does support FTP (only as a client). Transfer rates are rather slow.

Thanks Guys....that was really quick. Just 1 question though - does this method solves my first problem - file sharing between two WM6/6.1 devices using WiFi ???
Thanks Again.

Well yeah, you can browse to a network share with e.g. Total Commander. So it should work once set up properly. Going to try this myself!!
Pardon me if I'm asking for too much.....can we have something like VoIP or to be precise, a radio communicator using such 'WiFi/WLAN between 2 WM devices'? It will be fun to communicate with friends in a 'trucker' style within WiFi range - 10-4 ?

Dude this one dosent seems to be working with WM 6 (for my Elfin) [at least the link says so ] Can you please confirm?
Thanks ahead
True... I cannot install it on my blackstone...
Yes you can....I have installed it on my Blackstone and me Elfin too (after upgrading Elfin to 6.1). And it works.
However, I am still not able to transfer files (using WLAN) between my Elfin and blackstone. Any ideas on that??
Thanks Ahead
Hi guys,
I am extreamly happy to say that i have been able to share files from one windows mobile to another windows mobile that too at the speed of up 450kbps.
i had been trying to do this for atleast 2.5 months with no luck(u may check the related topics, nobody had a idea, Even using xda, google, bing, yahoo, altavista found that nobody has done it before...) but yesterday i made it to work the way i wanted to.
All you need to do is create a adhoc connection(e.g P2P) and download FTP server (Yes your mobile will act as a FTP server) and FTP client.
For FTP server download mochasoft and for FTP Client download resco.
**Once you install resco 2008, go to menu-->options-->addins--> then download ftp plugging(and it will make resco to work as a ftp client)
Mobile A
Start--->settings-->connections-->add new ->name it p2p-->select the option "this is a device-to-device connection(adhoc)...once it is done, turn on wifi on Mobile B it will detect this connections, connect to it.....Now two mobiles are connected with each other via wifi(Without router).....Till this point you can find it in google.
Now to share files open mocha soft on Mobile A(It will show that it is "online" with a specific IP address(Note down this ip address), Anonymous login will be on but preferabaly create a user name (File--->settings--> Add[*give it a read/write permission]) and the password.
Then decide for yourself what exactly you wanna share with the other mobile, in this example i am going to share my SD CARD. Go to file -->settings--> other--> and in the "Login Folder:" put in "\\storage card"
Once that's done open up resco ftp on Mobile B. Go to My ftp locations-->New ftp session--Give a name to ftp session (like abcd), In the host type in the ip address address that you noted down earlier--> let the port 21-->Login:ut in the username that you created-->Password: put in the password
and Hey there you go!!!, you will have the Sd Card of Mobile A and you will be working on it as if it is in your own mobile..
....Cont...
On mobile A moccha will notify you that a user has logged on to your server. You can use all FTP commands on mochasoft.
I downloaded the 700Mb movie which was stored in my frnds mobile while we were having beer and it got downloaded at the speed of 450kbps(it started off with 350kbps and was fluctuating from 380 to 450kbps), Just before doing this i tried to copy a 10mb file using bluetooth and resco showed the speed 20kbps........
So next time when you go out to meet your frnds you can transfer all their stuff at the lightning speed via WIFI file sharing......
Good Luck!!
If i got to settings connetions i can only create a modem or VPN connection..nothing with ad hoc..what am i missing?
If I remember correctly, you set up an adhoc network as if you were to enter a custom network with a hidden ssid. You enable wifi and go to the screen where it shows the available networks. There you can add a new network and tick this is an adhoc connection.
Also, since adhoc connections have no dhcp server, it is best to work with fixed ip addresses.

NetBios name resolution on Android

I'm wondering if anyone managed to access the network via NetBios names. Since Android network communication is based entirely on TCP/IP, any attempt to access a NetBIOS share will fail (Unless you have a local DNS server which is not always the case if you are not in a corporate network).
I see that the solution to that, could be an add-on protocol that will intercept the name resolution and use something similar to the NetBEUI protocol or Netbios over TCP/IP (which would be the easier also).
I only found a plug-in to ASTRO file explorer but it doesn't work.
Has anyone found anything? maybe something restricted again in the market which we who don't have root, can't access?
ES file explorer from the market connects to a named server on my LAN using the server name, no need to specify the IP address.

Thanks, does it work only within ES file explorer or also for external apps?
I actually need to use the NetBIOS names in all network applications not only to access files via explorer program.

yah but it still thinks - even on a rooted device with cifs enabled - that files from the LAN need to be copied before use so its a PIA to use to watch videos for example.
I'm looking for something like CIFS mounter that does name resolution (like ES file explorer) as well. Which is what I suspect the OP wants too

Anyone used their evo to access files on their current network?

If so what's the best approach.
My application is this, I might need to occasionaly word documents on our network for quick reference purposes along with minor document editing.

Well you can access your network on wifi with Es file explorer. Ive got a home server that I can copy files over to my phone with and also transfer files back to the server. Now as far as editing I'm not sure which app to use.
Agreed, I use ESFileExplorer for all of my local storage and network storage browsing needs. I am able to browse and open files on my home server so long as I am connected to my own LAN with no problems (if on another network I connect to server via AndFTP).

CIFS Manager is great if you are rooted. Netarchy beta kernels have CIFS support and Cyanogenmod 7 works with the default kernel (unsure about other versions).

Dropbox. Probably my favorite file sharing solution.
dropbox is awesome! would you like a referral email
Try Team Viewer. I can access my work pc from anywhere in the world as long as I have WiFi or 3g. Best of all it's free for personal use.
Don't forget openvpn. Share those files anywhere in the world.
When I am on a windows network I use samba as seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8239139&postcount=128 -- Works quite well. When I am out and about I live/die by dropbox.
Any of these apps support appletalk?
Homepipe will work, and is free on the market.
AndFTP and SSH for SFTP file transfers. All privacy and encryption you'll need.

Very good replies, I will have to start at the top and try them all.
In fact I will start with the first one mentioned now...
I may need to look into vpn as well, but i'll cross that bridge when the times calls for it.
Oh when you guys say something like 'home server' you mean just a pc with a share setup right, aka work group, not a domain. Not an actual network OS like win server 2008 and what not? I will be connecting to both scenarios between home and work.

i use built in astro in myns rom.
create a user/pass for my selected shares in win7.
enable sharing for those drives/shares and set permission to what this id can do.
set wireless router to static ip distribution
set phone to static ip
add smb share server address into astro
type in user name/pass and server ip address information
viola
I'm seeing a few issues with es file explorer
1. file permissions, I can only open word docs in read only.
2. For some file extensions I don't get prompted for what all to open some things, for example when I open a picture the default app for pix seems to be esfile explorer instead of giving me a choice and I need to be able to zoom in on these pix.
I don't see any options for either of these limitations, if I don't find a fix I will just move on to another app I guess.

File sharing PC<--->X10i

Hi^^
Probably a strange question...but.
Guide or ideas for share file beetween X10 and PC on window 7 home ed?
PC recognize X10 wireless connection..but ask key and adress...that i never set...
help please^^
Sorry for my english
I like to use Wifi Explorer. With that, all you have to do is connect to your home wifi, run the program, then navigate to the web address given by Wifi Ex. (for ex: http://192.168.1.115:8000) You can download/upload files to your phone or zip folders on your phone to download multiple files easier.
I also find that it makes it easier to share with my friends because they can navigate to that page through their phones browser to grab apks or whatever.
- X10a Wolf 008 ~via XDA App
or MYPHONE EXPLORER its an APK on your phone and a program installed on your pc get it free from hxxp://www.fjsoft.at/
you can also transfer contacts and sms witht hsi app
SwiFTP FTP Server
SwiFTP... easy to configure and files can be shared both ways hassle-free... the best I've used till now...
i use Dropbox and VNC server so if im watching tv upstairs and cbf going downstairs i just vnc and dropbox to send stuff to and from my pc or phone or to my mates and it goes on a external server for backup
Not sure if its the best but I use Samba Filesharing from the market. The app keeps the phone awake for transfering large files which i find useful.
Thank you all guys...
I love you^^

[Q] WIFI tether to copy files with Sony W995

I am on HyperDroid 6.0.1 MAGLDR version and am trying to use the Wifi tethering to provide a Wifi access point that my friend's Sony W995 can connect to. I have done this and he can use the internet via my Wifi connection. What I have not been able to do is to copy files between the 2 phones. We used to use Bluetooth but I wanted to try Wifi as we are now further apart and Bluetooth does not connect at this distance.
I have turned on "Network Sharing" on the W995 and set the subnet to 255.255.255.0 (rather than the default 255.255.255.255 - found a website that said this was needed - neither work).
I have ES File Explorer on my Android phone and it cannot see the W995 on the LAN settings (a scan finds nothing).
Does anyone know what I need to set up?
Thanks
Darren .)
You could try airdroid from the market installed on one device and then use the browser on the other to copy files, maybe!!!

I tried airdroid but could not get the w995 to connect to the web address specified in airDroid. I guess i will have to continue to use Bluetooth and leave my phone near my friends's phone
Silly question but did you select wifi tether in airdroid. Like make sure tether is active before starting airdroid?

Not a silly question at all. I looked in airdroid but could not find a tethering option. I had already turned on tethering and got my friend's phone surfing the net via my data connection before trying to run airdroid. AirDroid kept saying wifi is not on.
I did a bit more googling and came across some samba server apps (from which i could connect my phone to my router at home and get my windows 7 PC accessing my sd card wirelessly). I didn't think my friend's w995 had software to access samba shares so that was still no good. I finally found an app called "wifi file explorer" which would detect i was on wifi tethering (also does normal wifi by the way). It would then provide a web server that my friend's w995 could connect to as a simple http://192.168.1.xxx:8000/ address in his w995's web browser. From here he could navigate my sd card and download the relevant files, job done
I tried the same on another friend's Sony w715 but that wouldn't load the main page properly. I will f try some of the "wifi file explorer" options to see if it can make the main page simpler.
Over wifi we transferred a 200MB file in about 8 minutes (if i remember correctly)
Thanks for your help
Darren .)

I had tried a samba server app on my Android phone but i didn't know how to access it from my friend's w995. I also tried the ftp server in "ES File Explorer" but again didn't know how to access it on the w995. Both of the samba and ftp methods could be accessed fine on my windows PC.
