Question for the DEVS - Xperia Play General

I just saw this clip on youtube. Is there anyway we could get this to the Xperia Play maybe?

If you've checked the video's forewords, it has a link to the MoDaCo thread where you can install it. It seems to need a CWM script if I recall correctly, so read it a bit. It should be nice to try it and you won't break anything.

kinda looks like iOS LAME
Bit ugly for my liking.

Yeah i clicked on the link, but i didn't get how to install it. And if you read the comments the guy is saying it doesn't work on phones, because it doesn't have a phone function ect. That's why i asked if someone could build something like it? maybe steal the script and rewrite it for android phones.

is this tab only or could it be put on xperia play

This works in.phones too, you shouldn't need to do anything bar installing the APK. That launcher was made for Froyo...

I'm currently back on the HTC ROM but I would assume you can still run any of the home replacements from the market (or just the default android one) on MoDaCo.
do you know any good ones?

It's really a preference thing, there's no harm in installing any one of them and seeing if you like'em. Sense really is the better fit for me.
Some of the major ones are:
- OpenHome
- aHome
-dxTop
- PandaHome
...that's just off the top of my head some of the ones I've tried. They each have some cool and unique things about them.
Once i figure what can me skinned and how i will be making themes. Not sure if i will post any, as i must have made at least 100 themes for S2U2 for personal use when i had my WinMo phones. If i did do one to post it would more than likely be a Danbo (Danboard) theme.
I just discovered that little guy and i already outfitted my chompSMS with several wallpapers of him.

aHome Lite made my Hero so laggy i could hardly use it. It took me like 10 minutes just to get it uninstalled.
Also, when i was searching for OpenHome i couldnt find the actual program, only themes. Anyone know the official app name?
lol if you figure out how to make a theme you should defiently make me one

I didn't have much trouble with aHome, odd.
Any home replacement will be difficult to find on the market if there's a bunch of themes with the name in it sadly.
I almost forgot a few more too:
- Freshface
- GDE (though I don't know if this one is out yet)
As for OpenHome, fire up that barcode scanner and go here:
http://www.androidtapp.com/open-home/ It has QR codes to scan and will take you straight to the market app.
which one do you think looks the best? and is the fastest

I thought I recognized you from PPCG!
I used to have a Diamond and even made a few ROMs using some of the great kitchens available. It would be awesome if there were some kind of kitchen for the Hero. Hell, I might even give it a try then...just don't tell my wife, she thinks I quit cooking.

There is a kitchen, its called Android SDK and you can use it with eclipse. all you need to do is go grab the source from htc and compile it the way you want to and load it up with eclipse. or the android emulator. there is other steps but thats what google is for. i am working on my own rom right now. cant wait till its done. i am wondering how fast a bone stock rom would run.
I would be ur number one fan for a bone stock Android with hero support. I'd even go as far as to say it would be the base most custom roms are based off of.
I'm not a programmer but if u go through with this is there any way to twist cryogen's work into it? He gets great reviews and the update utility is pretty pimp

Doing cool things with our ancient phone

Hi all,
Personally I still love my G1. It is the 1st Android phone so historically something that is interesting on its own.
I assume most of the G1 owners on this forum are having the same geekish interests as me and I was wondering what you are doing with the device that you concider 'cool' and can impress fellow geeks
Some things I think are impressive:
1. Having a rooted device with a custom very stable and fast Gingerbread firmware (ezgingerbread)
2. The droid2600 and Frodo C64 emulators that run great on the G1 with its keyboard.
3. Haven't done this myself yet, but seeing videos of debian run on the G1 was pretty impressive.
4. Eventhough it is probably not ready for daily use but having ICS on the G1 is amazing.
My G1 is running debian for a while now. But it mostly sits in drawer now, I just bring myself to sell it. No matter how much my wife nags at me.

Running a customized rom you created yourself does belong in the 'wish I could say that' category.
Compiling programs from source does seem to be possible for the lesser educated with the scriptset smitna has created. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444792
Not as cool as creating your own rom, but you have to start somewhere
I been using it mainly to try roms and stuff,
but every time a friend lost or have no phone, until they get a proper.
I give it to them to use it
and to try to convert them to android
so I use it for educational porposes
Im using frayo too (thanks )

What do you mean?
I am really honestly using Frayo....
Froyobylaszlo is /the/ best G1 ROM and I use my mod for the (few) features it adds
Did I say I used that script?
Well...no, I didn't
And I can compile a ROM on my own from source thank you very much.
I just don't really see the need anymore since froyobylaszlo is as good as it gets
And instead of working my way up from aosp, learning along the way since I don't know a lot, I decided to just mod in features I like
And no I didn't use some scripts or rom kitchen
I tried using an apk compiler and a theme kitchen thing to fix certain problems, but then I decided against it...
Also, as of now I'm stopping working on my ROM and MOD and am gonna go for some pure PC development to work on my skills
I'm not too sure what you were trying to say but that's my response
If I misunderstood you, sorry
Edit: I think I did....now I'm debating wheter I should delete the above....
Sorry
Just ignore it all...I though you were saying that I shouldn't advertise here (I'm not btw I'm actually using it to post even)
And I thought you said I used that script and didn't do anything
Well, if you want to jumpstart into rom development with modding,, just open up the rom with winrar/7zip and start looking around
And at the google source website you can find how to compile a rom
The second option may require some programming skills

Nice ideas. Might do some research, thx!
Was indeed giving you a compliment for your rom modding, maybe my indirect approach was not clear enough (I am not a native English speaker... that probably doesn't help as well)

Oh ok thanks
Sorry bout that...http://forums.androidcentral.com/hacking/6037-general-rom-faq.html
This is very useful
Go to "building a rom"
Idk if the link works, its been strange for me, so just scroll down to it
Whenever you edit a rom, you have to sign it...
That link has the files and directions
Also,
I've just had fun experimenting with my G1. I didn't root it myself, but I have learned a lot since I got it. I ran through about 10 or 15 different roms until I found one that I like personally (Ginger yoshi) and customized it the way I wanted. I think the coolest thing that I did on it running a SNES emulator (although I only did it once because of ridiculous lag). I started toying around with DOS box but that didn't go anywhere. I wasn't able to do much with it because it is my primary phone and it got extremely annoying to have to fix it every time I messed something up.
Anyway, it was tons of fun... then it broke :'( And now I'm getting my friend to give me his for free! and the fun will continue.

Changing boot anim without rooting?

Is it possible? The stock animation is boring
The stock ics animation is nice.

No, you must have access to the Media folder, and the only way to do that, is to root, so you will have access to the System folders.
What stock ICS intro are you talking about? I'd like to see... You got a YouTube link or something? Not all stock ICS intros are the same, as different manufacturers use different ones, so I'm curious as to which one you're talking about.

He has a 3.2.x, but wants to use a bootanimation.zip from some ICS rom. But to use it, in any device, he will have to have root access. Hope it's not a bootanimation from a phone, should be interesting
No you don't need root access. You can use ADB to push it to /data/local

Just a example. Of course we need something in the higher resolution.

Sort of the long way around. But if you post all the steps and prerequisites, I'm sure he'd appreciate it
Eventually, he'll root. They always do
yeah all my android devices are rooted. I am pretty good at following instructions and using adb. I just have no need for it as this device uses a pretty vanilla version of android -which I am happy about.

This is true.
Though I avoided rooting for a while and when I made my bootanimations [in my sig] I was doing the adb routine which is definitely more involved than rooting. Well, more involved than rooting GB/HC 3.1 anyways... *nudge nudge*

I know what you mean. Problem is, it's been 2 yrs since I used adb on my Desire.... and I'm ashamed to say... I forgot how to use it!!!
Nifty little tool, is JRummys toolbox. You can copy about 50 bootanimation.zips and swap them at will. Of course you need root, but hey....
Probably some other apps that do the same thing.
For me, I only re-boot my tab, when I test a rom. So boot ani's are sort of not needed. No offense Gamma
Those are some nice animations. I will probably use one of them.
Maybe I will root if someone comes out with a ice cream sandwich rom

Well, there is 1. 90 percent working. It's an ASOP build, which means, it doesn't have 500/501 specific drivers for it. (camera doesn't work, nor 3g for 501).
I have a 501, and I use skype for business. So I need cameras and 3g.
Yeah the camera drivers seem to be the problems. I was running the creamed glacier rom on my mytouch an issue with poweramp (my favorite music player) and went back to cyanogenmod .
Off topic sorry... how do you move the cursor while typing with no directional pad or cursor keys on a tablet? It is difficult to get it just where you need it!
The cyanogenmod team said due to the camera drivers most likely there will not be a fully working cyanogenmod 9 rom out for any phones until the carriers release their updates for the phones. : (
As far as using adb..
I found a windows program that i use from time to time.. QTadb .. LOOK it up.. IT HAS Some of the built in adb commands with some drag and drop features..
There is also another one i forget the name that is even more..
do a net search FOR GUI ADB Windows program .. or something similar.. Its like buttons for dos.. 20 years ago... Call me a Cheater if you like But remember im Blonde...

Note: Some things will not work, since our phones do not have Touchwiz, you can't for example say "memo hi" and expect it to do anything but force close. It does however display information very nice and organized. ex: Whats the weather like today?
Also updated OP with a new thread with more apps.
I wasn't able to get any of the other apps from that link to work. Did you have any luck?
Hey X might want to put something in OP about these being for ICS. I've been testing Moped's 2.2 and they aren't working. I went to the 2nd link you posted and he says these are for ICS only. Just to save you some trouble when people start asking/telling that these aren't working.
any idea on how to install the apps. do we put the odex files in the system/apps folder or data/apps with the apps? also S voice is tough to get cause I only have 14 mbs left in system memory and the apk is close to 30.

Run Apps in Windows

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there is any sort of way to have apps open in windows instead of opening on the entire screen. I for some reason remember seeing something like this a while back but I don't know if I'm just having created memories or if I actually saw it.
Thanks for any help
Yea there is some company that tried to market it to OEMs for gingerbread a while back I believe. I haven't seen much recently on this accept that the ipad has a hack for jail-broken devices that allows this feature, so considering the floating apps android already supports and androids superior multitasking it should be possible if some really awesome devs work it into a ROM of find an incredible mod for stock ROMSs. This has always interested me so hopefully we can find how possible it is and maybe someone could get it done.
Edit;
Found the article on this, not as old as I thought, but it is still on an older version of Android.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping it was already implemented somewhere. Maybe we will see it in the future of this device

Yea, I have the overscreen browser and aircalc calculator, I had to sideload the browser from my transformer though as the nexus is unsupported. But I would still like to see a mod or ROM that allows this for all apps, much like this mod for the ipad.
