[Q] Scroll Lag in menu on all Desire (Z,HD) Roms - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi Every one! I dont know is this just me have this trouble or everybody. I was used search and found nothing about my problem.
I have some problems with srolling down in the end of menu (menu with programs) and same problem in personalisation. Ectually its not a problem but its annoying a bit... i've noticed that all desire roms (desire, z, HD) have this problem on my HD2 (TMOUS)...
Does any one had this problem? And may be there is some fix or tweak to solve it?

any one????? seems to be only i have this crap or what???
actually this crap only on Froyo roms. I've tried GB roms and there is a bit different menu and its NOT lagging, but personalization menu still laging when scroll down to the end of page!

People say something!!!!!!!!! Have some one this issue or its just me?

in froyo builds this is normal.to avoid this always control applications running at background with taskkillers (i use android assistant for this). i also use 128mb swap partition(knowing that may destroy my sd-card).and sometimes i overclock up to 1.2 ghz.

Also, if you wait for a bit until everything in the menu is loaded, it'll be gone next time you use the same menu. unless you've rebooted, or used some heavy apps before using the menus again.

ok, thanks a lot ! I've just installed htc desire rom from DFT and actually menu sroll lag still exist but much more less! Seems to be its a lack of LEO hardware and may be lack of some libs in desire's roms.

called the 'sleep of death' No cure for it once a rom is installed that i am aware, however many of the cooked roms have cured this issue. (I haven't seen it for about a month now)

sorry for off topic, does Android w/ Snapdragon or Android in general have the same problem/s like Windows Mobile does?
All this stuff should be as quick as speeding bullet.
and another question,
what kind of processor do we need to get what we want out of WinMo?
From what I gather it would have to be atleast 2 to 3 ghz. (for it to never stutter.)

im using a hero and an hd2 both freeze up from time to time. if you use Google apps a lot stick with android. if your lazy stick with android. if you have time to always tweak your phone go with winmo. and despite what you read windows has way more apps than android the only problem is most of the apps are 3 or more years old and not being updated anymore so not too finger friendly.
My HD2 (U.S. Tmobile - Stock Rom) runs like lightning, but not for lack of effort (well, not too much effort). I installed BsB Tweaks and Clean Ram, applied the performance tweaks in BsB (there's even one messaging that allows for "classic" style), and make sure to run Clean Ram (level two) once or twice a day. I also make liberal use of the task manager after opening any apps that fail to close with the press of an X (most?). Occasionally I'll notice a bit of slowdown, but Clean Ram will usually cure what ails it. Worst case scenario is I'll need to do a soft reset (which I always do after installing/uninstalling any apps), but, with BsB, it's a breeze as there's a command for it in the menu, so no need to wrangle with the battery cover and poke the red button!
As far as Android goes, I've no clue how it will run on HD2 level hardware, but, seeing as much of the issues with the HD2 seem to revolve around the Sense UI and HTC in particular, I would imagine some of the same issues will crop up. I'm coming over from Android (G1) to WinMo. My G1 had the same issues with messaging (HTC!!!) but, otherwise, didn't require much by way of maintenance. It was just slow and there was nothing I could do about it!
Play around with some of these tools on here. I'm a total WinMo noob, but I gotta say I'm loving the tweakability of the OS, and I'm especially enjoying learning about all of the cool stuff XDA has available for it.
No Lag here
Hey guys, I'm not sure if you guys are managing your opened applications properly... HD2 will keep all the apps you opened in the background running unless you actually closed them... and for most of the apps the only way to close them is to go to taskmanager (start>taskmanager>endtask, see a quicker way to do this below)....
Solution: you need to close the applications that are open!!!!
some tweaks that make this easier
- BsB Tweaks (solves many problems)
- Dutty's Taskmanager (allows you to switch between currently opened apps and also allows you to close them, it puts an icon on the top right corner in the taskbar) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Changing OS of HD2

Hey,
Is there any way you can change the OS from Windows Mobile to another OS? I love the HD2 but it can be really sluggish at times that I can only assume to be the OS. I'd love to put Android on it but apparently its not yet been done.
Is there anything else it can be changed to or any way to speed up the phone as even with no background applications running it can slow right down when navigating the phone or writing a text etc
Thanks
If you'd done a search you would've had an answer already, no, no android, as of yet and probably not.

Have you looked over at custom ROM flashing in the ROM Development forum?
One thing alot of people who have not used a phone that actually Multi-Tasks, seem to miss ...
If you are running an app, hitting the home button does not close the app, it is still running ...
The HD2 and WinMo can really run lots of apps at the same time, and if you get way to many running the phone can feel sluggish ...
I have a friend that has an HD2 got his when I got mine, I got it all slimmed down for him with a custom rom , he still complained about it "Slowing Down" ..
He came from an IPhone, so every time he wanted to leave and app he just hit the home button, the other night he was complaining about his phone being slow I checked the task manager and he had 9 apps running , including 2 games(memory hogs) ..
Even if you do not do a custom rom, at least install a good task manager something like ArkSwitch or along those lines ...

Desire HD Lag and Memory Help

Hi All,
I got my Desire HD about 3 weeks ago and have been loving it. However I am now getting a reoccurring problem of Lag. Sometimes its minimal, some times its a large amount.
If I leave my phone on for a considerable amount of time I am finding that I always have to restart to get rid of the lag.
I never really have that many apps open, but sometimes even when playing something like doodle jump its starts to lag.
I am no expert on how phones work, but a couple of friends have iPhones and if you look in their task manager sometimes about 30 apps are left open with no real effect on the phones lag, where as the HD with a better CPU and RAM does not seem to be able to handle it. I decided to go with the Desire HD over the iPhone as i love google, but at the moment the lag is causing laughter amongst my friends who got the iPhone 4!
The only things that I ever really leave running are HTC sense, Facebook for sense (for contacts), Calendar and messaging and GMail. Surely this cannot cause such a hideous amount of lag.
When i look at running services its says "other:77MB in 4 Avail:316+155MB in 30" What does this mean?
I also have android task manager and at the top it says "Available Memory 323M" Is this right? Surely it should be pushing 764? (this is when jsut booted and everything then closed)
Also jsut a quick question, when you pull down the drop down settings bar from the home page, under your carriers names, there is a lsit of apps which you can scroll right on, what are these? Open apps? Recently opened apps?
Also, how do you stop apps starting on start up?
Also, i select kill apps on task manager and then i look 10 mins later and they are running again, why is this?
OMG!!! first thing with android 2.2 DONT! use a task killer tasks will just restart
first there DHD and many other phones have a bit of a lag bug that is caused by a rouge /INIT process to prevent this enable USB debuging in the settings for somereason this fixes it.
the list of apps below the carrier in the notifaction pane is just the recently open application the same list that you would get by pressing and holding the home button these applications are not running.
also ignore the ram thing in the task manager yes the desire has 768mb of ram however a portion of that is locked for i think the fast boot feature (because it works by storing the os and its current state into the ram for fast startup later ~130mb )
also the launcher is also taking up ram when the phone is on
ie...dont worry about it because when android needs more ram it will clear it out for other higher priority applications
but yeah dont use task killers, enable usb debugging stop going crazy over 'missing' ram
i suggest you read about how android multi tasks to you can find it over on the offical android guide website.
I have usb debugging on and I still get bad lag the odd time.

Yeah same here, happened today, quite badly too.
One guaranteed method to get rid of the lag.
PermRoot > Flash Clockwork Mod > Flash an OverClock Kernel > Overclock with SetCPU setting "Performance" as the governor.
Say goodbye to lag, it won't bother you again.
Full guides can be found in the DHD > Android Development section.
try using another launcher, i used to find sense used to be a little laggy at times on my legend but other launchers like launcher pro were fine.
also if you mean lag when typing on the htc ime keyboard disable the haptic feedback vibration for somereason they make it lag out
For me I have USB debugger on, but when I am playing a game, for example Angry Bird, initially it is smooth, but for a while, there will be a lag... Then it will return to normal... I believe its when my syncing occur that causes the lag...
Would turning off quick/fastboot give us more ram ?
The DHD has a shed load of RAM, I wouldn't imagine that leaving Fast Boot on, or turning it off would affect performance or lag directly.

probably that reserved 136mb ?, actually i think if fast boot is disabled it would make no differnce i think that htc have a bit reserved for the os and sense so that all core systems are always loaded.

How much ram do you usually have free in daily use?
I'm experiencing Sense reboots when ram gets down <100Mb and it's kinda frustrating waiting the homescreens to bootup again and again.
I'm rooted and using LeeDroids HD 3.0.1 GB ROM and hes custom kernel.
Flash CM7, all of your lag and memory problems will go away :-D
I'm using stock frequency and I never see lag and memory for me doesn't go over 50% unless playing a game or such.
But to have to say goodbuy to sense which is definitely worth it.

[Q] Lack of RAM - any solutions? HTC DZ

I'm getting quite annoyed at my phone's lack of RAM.
I browse the internet and constantly open new windows (up to the max 4 allowed by the HTC browser, but that's another story) so that I can quickly go back a page when I need to.
If for some reason I go and use a couple of other apps on the phone, and then come back to the browser I constantly find that the oldest 3 pages have dropped completely out of RAM, and the 4th one has as well, and that last one alone loads up again.
This is annoying, time-consuming and messes up my browsing session. Is there some way I can prioritise the browser so that most other apps get killed off before it does?

Try using firefox instead on the defualt browser .its not perfect yet but its getting
better and better with every beta release .
I don't think an alternate browser will help with Android unwantedly killing off processes.
Incidentally, I tried Firefox a couple of months ago and found it to be completely unusable - I take it it's worth checking out again now then?
Another possibility is to set the Android memory manager to be less aggressive in removing things from memory (you can use an app like AutoKiller to change the settings easily---try tweaking the settings to see if helps with your usage model).
I know AutoKiller will also allow you to lower the oom value for the process (the lower the oom, the less likely the memory manager will kill it in the background), but I don't think this will help for the browser (since the OS will dynamically change its oom each time you bring it to the foreground and send it to the background again). If someone knows a way to make the oom value permanently lower, that sounds like exactly what you want.
Maybe someone else has some ideas. I know often times launchers will have the option to keep themselves in memory, and CM6 has the option to keep messaging in memory (more like your situation), so it should be doable.

defo ,its much better now i figured since you were annoyed by 4 tab limit
you might find firefox helpful. because it doesnt have limit or if it does its more than 4 for sure also it has an aption called (your tabs from last time) which again i think
you will find it usefull ,you can also sync it with you pcs firefox too .
EDIT: I just tried it to make sure, even if you reboot your phone
and open firefox again you can just press on (your tabs from last time)
and it will restore them all.
The way I see it there are a few things you can do...
Firstly, you could try a renice script. It does what other people have suggested and changes the oomph value to what you like. It was commonly used on the g1 for the dialer so that you wouldn't miss phone calls lol. Its easy to do if you know the syntax, I would make you one myself if I was near a computer lol.
Another thing you could do is try an aosp/CM based rom, as those generally have much, much lower ram usage compared to sense.
Lastly you could try a different browser. There are so many to choose from I'm sure one will fit your needs.

I use autokiller on my DZ, you have to have root to use this tho... quite satisfied about it, almost all the time 90+ free ram even when doing heavy stuff... quits the unused shizzle...
cheers
I HIGHLY recommend Dolphin Browser HD.
It is significantly faster than the stock Browser and I have had no issues with Android closing it down. One feature I like is that there is actually an 'Exit' button in the menu for those individuals who have OCD like me and don't like the Browser running in the background when not wanted.
Thus far, this is the best mobile Browser I have used. That being said, I have not tried Firefox and have been a regular user of Opera Mini in the past on other devices.
You should try miren browser once, i'm using it now instead of dolphin hd, and there is a exit button in the menu to. I think its better styled, it has got all the features of dolphin HD without all the bloating around... no gestures tho
cheers
I think its more of poorly optimized software because im pretty sure that google devs don't even utilize the full 512mb of RAM in 2.2. Chances are its the HTC sense limiting you.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Yeah I don't think this issue is anything to do with a lack of RAM.
I may try another ROM, however I'm just not up for flashing all the time like I used to with my old Desire or G1 before that. I want a 100% working ROM, preferably something that allows overclocking with a kernel that doesn't break stuff.
And I also want my HTC phone dialler/contacts as well, not vanilla or a cheap copy from the Market. Oh, and I hate the vanilla lockscreen - it's just hard to operate compared to the Sense one. I don't know why it's so hard to unlock side to side on Android - the iPhone takes a little flick and it's unlocked - vanilla Android is like a mission to ensure I've dragged it far enough across to unlock.
And I don't want my keyboard or capacitive keys or quick keys mullered up (I am running a Euro DZ).
If these issues can be dealt with easily when setting up the ROM/phone then I'm prepared to devote a little time to doing it.
So - any suggestions, please?
dont use htc sense roms.
I'm running the virtuous sense rom with his advanced kernel, ive ran the normal rom about 2 weeks, and ive yet to see differences other then a huuuuuuuge speed increase... i would just try it once if i were you its such a relieve...
I played with the latest over the weekend. I ended up uninstalling it. I'd hit a page with scripting and then firefox would lock up and crash.
Web2Go isn't perfect, but at least it doesn't crash as often.
This has nothing to do with RAM. This phone handles RAM just fine. Use Miren and thank me later. It's the best browser by far!

No text reflow = showstopper.
Unless I'm just being blind, I can't find any way to enable this in the settings for Miren.
It's sense. Sense roms use way more RAM than vanilla roms do. Also check out dolphin HD or dolphin mini browser.
Another issue I'm having which points to lack of RAM (whether this is due to Sense sucking it all up or not) is that programs do not stay in in RAM for that long, ie I go away from an app then return after using a few other apps (not massive games or anything) and when I return the first app's UI has been kicked out of memory and has to load up again, causing anything between a momentary (dialler, mesaging) to an annoyingly long (browser, maps, market) white screen, as data is downloaded again.
People talk a lot of sh*t about the iPhone, but cacheing (caching? sp?) a copy of the last screen for each app before it's closed so you instantly get a visual image of the UI of the app following the opening animation is a pretty good idea IMO.
Has anyone here used the Desire HD? I would think with the 768MB of RAM on that badboy this would be less of a problem.

I've now installed Enomther's Official rom - what a difference to the speed of the phone! It absolutely flies, even when clocked at a lower CPU speed, and it appears to retain stuff in memory a lot better than the standard Sense rom. Also, there's over 100MB more of free RAM afte a fresh boot.
I'm definitely sold on the efficiency of stock Android, but I'm now missing some of my HTC goodies... I don't think anyone can deny that the HTC dialler is a different level to the rudimentary Android one. And I am missing my HTC browser - that seems a bit smoother, and the text reflow is more reliable, the stock browser seems a bit temperamental on that front.
Other than that, I can live without all the other Sense stuff. So my next question is, can the dialler and browser be installed on my new rom? Do they have any dependencies which would prevent me using them? How would I go about ripping the apps from the HTC rom? I'm an ADB noob so I need some kind expert to tell me how

Hero very slow;Is this normal?

Hi all!
I currently have elelinux 2.1 ROM, but I think that's not the problem, because with others rom is very slow too.
For example, when I'm writing a text message, on twitter or whatever, sometimes it has a delay of 1 second more or less, activating 3G/wifi is slow as **** too. Even turning screen on and navigating through desktops or apps is slow. When I call, it has a delay of 3 seconds before it appears on the screen. I can't even listen to music because the phone get stucks... I could give you more examples, but I think is enough to know that my hero works to slow.
But I don't know if this is normal or not, I don't know other people who own a Hero.
Thanks in advance
Yeah it's an outdated slow phone really. I would consider it normal.
Maybe you have some apps installed and running in background? Try to install fresh ROM or uninstall all applications and try then.
are you using an thirth party keyboard like better keyboard?
those are a bit laggy somethimes and that can cause your 1 or 2 seconds lag
and maybe try to flash a new kernel (like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730471) or start again from scratch

Hi!
Recently I've installed Thumb Keyboard, but the keyboard was laggy before that, so that's not the main problem I think...
I know it's an old phone, but this slowness, it's unbearable... and my contract doesn't end until october >_<
instal a task manager maybe?
or delete your phones cache (can be done by apps in the market)
otherwise.. i dont know whats the problem
i recomend a radio and kernel update (can be found here on the forums)
Yes, try a task killer to find out what processes use phone memory the most.
Kill them periodically, or just uninstall them if it's not necessary.
hi everyone
i think that's the steps of solving the problem try it
1- if your memory card is full try to delete anything you not use in it.
2- make a Swap partition and that's the link > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6907762&postcount=47
3- install fresh rom for my advise (VillainROM-v13)
4- install task killer that's help phone to be faster
now your phone is fast!! enjoy
You may wanna consider overclocking a bit. That's helps my phone quite a bit.
may be you've to reflash ROM
i usually flash ROM every 3 months
Solution without Sense:
go and get elelinux 2.8 ROM
OC your cpu (needs root and care not every phone can handle the highest values, ele has included oc app in his rom)
find the lowest working freq without the phone always restarting itself
find the highest freq without stability issues or overheat
after done this, check "set on boot"
switch all animations off
install just the apps you really need
remove all that unnessecary junk from your homescreen, a clock widget (example beautiful widgets lite, weather animations off, free from market) and some shortcuts are enough, if u want u can keep search widget
play around with cyano settings so you get optimum results
then your phone should not show too many lags, at least mine does not.
Solution with Sense:
Go and get a fresh rom,
example
elelinux repacked 2.1 rom,
VR 13 (also 2.1),
SalsaSense (2.3.3, not as fast as RUU 2.1 though, and use Las Venturas 0.4.7 kernel)
Same procedure as above: OC, for me i use 264-768.8MHz and ondemand gov
Remove all that unnessecary htc homescreen junk like music widget , peoples widget, weather.....
if u want you can keep htc clock widget, but do animations off
Phone should be FAST!
greets, S.O.D.
id recommend updating from 2.1 to the 2.8 version. the set the cpu to 176/652.
then install task manager. this should sort all your problems out
try overclocking the phone, i use floyo rom and it run so fast for me
was using villainrom 12 and recently shifted to villainrom 13. trust me it is the best rom i have ever had. i use taskiller with it and my phone simply flies. though battery remains an issue. i am using the stock keyboard and also the stock sms app. would suggest all to give it a try (those who haven't)
I too have had a slow hero and it is definately not rom.
I actually had 2 heroes , One got rooted on day and has been ok .
The other ( nephew was using it) was slow and I always assumed it was his stock system, unrooted setup.
When I got the phone back last week, I rooted it , put a few roms on , wiped everything that looked wipable in recovery , put in a new sd card , setup a app2sd partition ( using rom manager ) .
and still its deadly slow.
If it was a PC I would think its faulty memory so only the good portion is working but I have no way of checking. ( unless you tell me)
also the apps2sd might not have taken as i tried to format the partition after creating it and it couldn't find it.
any ideas?
try to flash new roms .....
