News regarding the Qtek version of the Universal

Got some news for those of you waiting for the Qtek version of HTC Universal:
-The Qtek version of the Universal will be 'Qtek 9000', not 'Qtek 4040'
-It will be realeased in the end of october
-It will have 128 mb RAM and 96mb ROM, not 128mb ROM and 64mb RAM as stated elsewhere.
-The price will be € 986 w/o VAT
Found all this info on Qtek's Switzerland pages. But guess it will be available to the rest of the world by then as well, since they ship it internationally.
Availability site:

General info, Qtek 9000:

Enjoy!
Accurate to a point BUT I don't believe those memory figures are correct.
When HTC first released details of the Universal they gave information that it would have 128MB RAM and 96MB ROM. At first both Orange and T-mobile gave that info out as being accurate. Now both of them have changed their info to say 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM. As such I'm inclined to believe that Qtek simply haven't corrected themselves (see also the dimensions they give - which are again based on the original info released by HTC, and which Orange, O2 and T-mobile have all now corrected).
I see.. But it could be true considering that the prototypes got 2*32mb + room for two more.
Perhaps it even will be different from each distributor? (lets say Qtek will give the RAM priority - 128mb RAM and 96mb ROM, and I-mate will do the opposite - 64mb RAM and 128mb ROM or something)

The way Windows Mobile 5.0 works makes 96MB ROM and 128MB RAM a less efficient arrangement. No - I think the fact that their specs (including measurements) match inaccurate ones from a while ago makes it unlikely they are correct (not impossible - but very unlikely).

Warning: Do not rely on qtek.ch. They are NOT official Qtek Dealers, instead they import the devices through dubious channels. Plus, they are thieves, a statement I can prove.
Go instead to http://www.dangaard.ch if you want to get official news about Qtek in Switzerland.
it's unlikely that the 2 empty places for chips could
be used for both rom and ram
the memorymap would get pretty screw'd up if
you just put in rom chips even if you could find
leg compatible ones
For size, see here.

Original HTC specs ARE correct!
http://www.windowsmobile.no/index.php?name=UpDownload&req=getit&lid=49
Here it states 128/64MB
Wlan 802.11 b/g ????
Both stated Tri and Quad band ????
Launch in December
will we ever get the actual specs *LOL*

New trinity with 500MHz?

Not sure if this is true but i have read it on an aussie board where apparently someone has spoken to Dopod Australia (also read it somewhere else too):
"I have confirmed with Dopod Australia that they are in the testing phase of the new Dopod D810x which will have a 500Mhz processor and increased RAM. They are looking at releasing the unit in a couple of months time."
Strange they would be doing this, why not go to a whole new model?
can anyone confirm this?
I still wont swap mine until i can get one with an fm radio...... unless i can suck someone into buying this one for the same price i can get the new one for!! haha
Confirmed
Dopod D810X (Dopod D810 eXtreme)
CPU Samsung 500 MHz , Rom 256 MB , Ram 64 MB , GPS Qualcomm , WM6 Pro
(Launch by Dopod Asia in this June)
Is this the Kaiser, maybe?

If this is true then it explains why Dopod doesn't want to release a WM6 upgrade for the D810 until after the new D810X model is released.

Telus HTC P4000 = CDMA Hermes?

Hey everyone,
I've decided to start a post on this cuz i haven't been about to find much on this recently released phone from telus (a canadian carrier). I currently have an HTC TyTN. However, the touchscreen is completely dead. Since this phone isn't sold by any canadian carriers, it's virtually impossible to get it repaired let alone replaced.
I've recently come across the Telus HTC P4000 which was officially launced by telus in april. I noticed the specs are very similar to that of the TyTN except for the following:
-A CDMA phone without a sim card slot.
-256 mb rom vs 128 mb rom
-64 mb sdram vs 64 mb ram? (**i dunno if the hermes ram is SD)
-a QUALCOMM MSM7500, 384 MHz CPU vs a Samsung 400 MHz CPU.
I'm thinking of selling my X01HT and signing up with telus and grabbing that phone. I could really use some feedback on this idea from my fellow Hermes owners. And could use some help measuring the pros and cons.
So far the major CON of going to this phone would be that it's slightly slower and looks to have ZERO upgradability in terms of OS, RADIO, or any type of rom flashing. Meaning no sweet WM6 upgrades from custel or jasjamming or any of the other cool chefs...
Here are some links:
http://www.telusmobility.com/content/clientcare/pcs_east/guides/htc_p4000/htc_p4000.pdf
-user manual (specs can be found here as well)
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/04/17/the-htc-p4000-for-telus-in-the-flesh/
-engadgetmobile article on this phone
Any feedback or thoughts would be great. Thanks guys...
I din't know how much money you want to spend, but expansys do a good range of phones - including the dopod 838 pro (http://www.expansys.ca/)
I think most of these are phone only, without contract etc but I'm sure you can shop around for something with a contract.
Personally for my style of useage I'd spend out on one of the Hermes varieties.
You could also try ebay - maybe pick up a bargain 8525 or an old hermes to repair yours with.
Good luck
I just bought 2 HTC P4000 for some of our work phones. One has been activated so far, and it is working great. It is allot slimmer than the PPC-6700, which I had last year. I am a newbie when it comes to upgrading these things or doing hacks etc, but I am quite happy with the phone so far. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask me and I will try to answer them for you.
thanks guys,
I passed by a telus store today to check it out. The lady was nice enough to take a brand new phone out of its box and run it for me. I got to play around with it for a while and here are my impressions which are mostly positive:
-the slid out keyboard seems to have some kind of power assist feature (not exactly but you know what i mean, think hiptop) which makes it pretty cool and easier to slid out as oppose to having to manually push up the screen till you hear it lock into place (X01HT)
-The HTC P4000 is virtually the same size except just as twelveca stated, it is slightly thinner.
-same white default htc bootscreen + a telus logo screen and wm5 setup. I doubt the possibility of any kind of upgrade unless there are some crazy chefs out there that get their hands on this phone.
-has FN and CAPS lights just like a computer keyboard!
-black keyboard, dark gray screen housing, and a bumpy pattern on the back for added grip.
-I checked out the device info screen and to my surprise, it said it has a !400! MHz CPU as oppose to the 384 MHz stated in the specs. 64 MB RAM, 256 MB Onboard Flash memory confirmed.
-From the few minutes playing with it, it seems to perform at the same level (if not better) as the HERMES.
-Doesn't show any signs of screen alignment problems.
-EVDO High speed wireless capable.
There ya have it, looks like i'm leaning towards buying it. Just have to get over the idea that i won't be able to upgrade roms (for now at least) or use sim cards...But other than that, it seems like a great phone.
Oh i just found a link to a "Complete" review of the P4000 on HF
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1153541
It includes points i forgot to mention as well as ones i didn't even know of...
Here are some of them (note these are compared to the ut starcom 6700):
"
-dual core processor??
- REV A compatible (with software upgrade which Telus has officially announce they will do)
-more buttons on face and sides
-better one-handedoperation
-bigger battery
-better battery life
-better brighter screen
-better 2mp camera with improved software and settings
-AKU 3.3 which brings with it A2DP among other things
"
P4000
Just recently picked one of these up and have had a couple of days to play with it. I upgraded from an Imate PPC (original 2003 edition) and could not be happier.
This is a rock solid PPC, only wish my GPS hardware was compatable, sigh.
I was a little unsure of Telus but after my fiascos with Rogers, i dont expect them to give me half the grief.
cool, i'll be picking one up probably some time next week...just gotta figure out how i'm gunna cancel my plan with fido and transfer the number over...
...maybe we can start a new forum for this phone when more people have it...
Who that knows as to unlock Telus or P4000 ?
HTC TYTN
ji1386, how much do you want for your broken TYTN?
TYTN
ji1386, if you want to sell your broken TYTN, I could use it for parts if unable to fix it. Send me a PM with your offer. Thanks
I have this phone basically since it came out from Telus, and I must say I am quite enjoyikng it. Best Pocket PC phone out, IMO.
This phone is upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.....however, there is no confirmed release date on when this will be. Also, checking the HTC site will most likely get you nowhere as Telus will need to configure this upgrade to have Telus aspects on there, for instance, The Telsus bootscreen, the today themes, etc.
GPS in HTC P4000
The GPS in this phone someone post what u gotta do to get GPS working on this phone in Stand Alone GPS Mode with No A-GPS.

[Q]ZTE Blade or Samsung Galaxy 3 i5800?

I need some help choosing one of those two phones. This will be my first android phone so i don't want to spend too much money as i am a windows mobile fan. My options are:
1)ZTE Blade. 159 euros from a different provider than the one i have (phones are unlocked by default here so that wont be a problem) so i will have to pay the full price. It has an lcd screen and 256mb ram. I know that 512mb ram can be unlocked and i am comfortable with that sort of things but i don't want to do anything of the sort untill the official update to froyo 2.2.
Pros: Larger screen and big resolution. The 512mb ram that can be unlocked.
Cons: Battery and the lack of an official service center in my city. For the official upgrade to greek froyo 2.2 I will have to take it back to the shop i will buy it from because it will not be done over the internet. Very high SAR value.
2)Samsung Galaxy 3 (i5800). 159 euros by my provider, and since i will renew my contract for another year, i will have a discount of 67 euros, which makes it 92euros. (Otherwise i would have to settle for a 5 euro discount to my bill every month). It has an lcd screen and 256mb ram as well.
Pros:Better battery and price. Official service center in my city. Low SAR value. Easy to upgrade officially over the internet.
Cons: Nothing can be done about the 256mb ram. Smaller screen and resolution.
Bring on the comments!
Blade runs stock Android...
... so it is more likely to have future unofficial updates for it. Samsung phones have some Samsung customizations and Samsung usually drops support for its models under two years.
I am not sure if there is 2.2 or 2.3 unofficially available to Blade yet.
Yes, tere are unofficial 2. 2 roms for Blade and if rumor is real we should get official 2. 2 in some time.
Sent from my ZTE-BLADE using XDA App
Galaxy already got an official update. I don't want to get unofficial updates for some time for waranty reasons. But both have unofficial updates.
What bothers me most is the sar levels on the blade (too high) and the battery, but i am also annoyed by the small resolution of galaxy. However i'm leaning mostly towards galaxy
i'm thinking of getting a zte blade but i currently have a htc diamond, does anyone think it's worth the extra £30 (after selling old phone), comparing the specs they look similar?

Hmm...:
RAM/ROM: 192MB/512MB -> 512/512
320x480, 3.2" -> 480x800, 3.5"
CPU: 528 MHz -> 600 MHz
Oh diamond I read magic.
Diamond is win mobile right?
IN sweden Telia and Comviq has official says that Blade gets 2.2 in about 1-2 weeks.

Confirmation of 512MB memory

Engadget has the new press release announcing the availability of the Venue Pro in the UK. In the release they are none to shy to state the magical 512mb number. If I remember correctly, Europe is a lot less friendly to false claims, so this should prove worthwhile.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/28/dell-venue-pro-arrives-in-the-uk-at-long-last-459-off-contract/
It wont make any difference to US devices as there is no where claimed by Dell that it has 512MB RAM. For the UK, its a different matter and they would be in trouble if they tried to pull the wool over their eyes like they did with us.
I have almost no doubt there are phisically 512mb of ram inside any DVP shipped or shipping. The problem is why the OS seems unable to see them all, are they defective, or is there a problem with some driver? Dell seemed to imply a software update could fix the issue but no official statement on this being fixed yet. We'll know only when the first UK venue reaches its owner.

We know now. The Indian version has NoDo installed as well we newer firmware and shows up as 512MB of RAM.
We will get it when NoDo gets to us. Now lets hope that isn't long.
