OK so im very confused here... I have Nexus S 4g unlocked/rooted. I have the original Clockwork recovery.
I am running ICS, as soon as it was released OTA and someone made it into a flashable zip file with no mods I flashed it... I gained all my security features back as in being able to use my mobile banking instead of it saying that there was an issue with the security of the phone. I love this version and that I have the benefits of a rooted phone but still get to use everything as a non rooted android...
also I am using the radio and bootloader that was released with the ICS OTA
yesterday (9/13/12) I recieved an OTA update notification to update to 4.1.1 Jelly Bean
I really want the offical OTA version but dont want to unroot the phone.
Is it safe to download this OTA or will it brick my phone?
If it is not safe what are my options to get this stock version w/o mods on my phone?
I really need to do something ASAP as my children get my phone all the time and this notification pops up like every 15 mins and only gives me options to install later, more info, and install now, and I dont want my children to plan on it and end up installing the update and bricking my phone!
Thank you sooo much!
Just flash one of the OTA roms on here for jellybean

Am I the only one who has still not received the JWR66Y ota yet?
I did side load my 4.3 update to JWR66V. Am I now off the OTA path? I am currently stock and unrooted.

The OTA is rolled out in batches, you`ll get it sooner or later. Or flash the factory image in manualy in fastboot mode, you`ll have to unlock the bootloader first though.
I still did not receive one either, so your not alone. Just hang on a few more days, or you can just flash it.
Yeah.... Just got it and it totally screwed up my phone... Nothing opens, everything just force closes. I power cycled the phone and now it won't even get past the lock screen.

Gawd damn. Why is everyone so god damned impatient about OTA updates? I dont remember GN forums having this problem >.>
Just use this thread and flash the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419141

Hi, ExonakiDev...
Unlocking the bootloader alone won't interfere with OTA's. Aside from the inconvenience of the factory reset and data wipe contingent upon running the command fastboot oem unlock, your Nexus 7 will perform normally as it did prior to the bootloader unlock, and that includes OTA updates. Unlocking the bootloader just allows you to run fastboot commands.
With regard to TWRP...
I can only speak for myself on this; others have reported different experiences. For myself, on my Nexus 7, flashing TWRP has never interfered with OTA's. Usually what happens is you just loose your Custom Recovery after the OTA, and you have to fastboot flash it again.
With regard to Root...
Root under Jellybean 4.3 works differently than it did under Jellybean 4.2.2, and as a result, and in all probability, root will cause an OTA to abort. So, prior to accepting the OTA, you should unroot first. It's a relatively trivial matter to re-root again afterwards.
Hope this helps.
Rgrds,
Ged.

There is an OTA for 4.3 to an updated 4.3, has some minor fixes.
Yep fixes sound good but will wait to see if it effects bootloader / root
Regards
Damian
I can tell you for sure it removes root
It does remove root, but dosent effect the boot loader. So basicly all you have to do is re-root after you update:laugh:

Used rootjunkys supertool 1.4 sorted (had to install supersu from play store again too ??)
Hi Everyone,
I have the G2, and wanted to get rid of annoying ads. So I rooted(that's it, stock, no recovery). I only rooted it. Everything is still stock. The only thing I added was superuser and busybox. I didn't install a recovery like Twrp or cm. I hate ads, that is the only reason I rooted. I didn't delete any bloatware, only froze with Titanium. Essentially everything is factory, except it is rooted.
Question: Will I be able to take the lollipop OTA?
If so, Will I lose root?
If I cant receive OTA, what do I need to do to receive ota update?
Thanks a bunch

Probably
Probably not
Flash stock .kdz
Well we are not likely to see a LP update in the near future, so no worries. As long as you haven't touched any system apps or installed custom recovery you will most likely be fine taking any OTA.
I think that OTA updates aint posible on some devices, like example mine which is 20b. I can only update via pc and lg update tool, but im kinda scared i wont brick my phone since i rooted it on stock 20b with towelroot.
Should i do the update? Can sh*t happen? I am looking over the forums atm, but wanted to ask.
Also im searching for a recovery install way on d802 with rooted 20b stock firmware.

If you are Stock you can still take the OTA if/when it comes out. Root has never been an issue upgrading with an OTA.
What makes the process fail is what you do with root, like changing DPI, changing the WiFi Tether App, physically deleting bloat (verse disabling it).
I'm not sure if you can root Lollipop yet. I've heard they are disabling the ability to root lollipop without a custom kernel.

Thanks,
I did few changes with xposed and g2 tweakbox, you think that could cause problems for the update?
I think i should really update 20b stock..
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Free mobile app
I wouldn't risk it, I've read a lot about people bricking their phone because they thought they could just uninstall xposed, uproot and update
