I rooted my hero and tried out a few roms but non seem to polished yet so was wanting to finda stock rom while keeping root of course, Id mainly like the stock one with the ability to run apps from sd card.
have you tried fresh 1.0 its pretty close to stock. If you want you can just return to your nandroid that you did after you rooted but before u installed any ROMs and thats basically a rooted Stock ROM
yeah im gonna try that because now I cant do anything, I hope I didnt mess up my phone, no matter the update I apply(and I try wiping to) it just sits at the htc screen.
How do you apply the nandroid backup?
I just basically have the folder with everything in it on desktop
boot into recovery mode and go down to the listing that says Nandroid Restore.
also when you install a new ROM it isnt rare for it to take up to 10 minutes to boot.
yeah i mean id wait 30-even 45 mins, it just sits at the htc screen, and sometimes the lock screen will even appear, i jsut kept getting errors for force close
and id get to a permission screen, itd say like overclock at the top and ask for permission?
any idea what that is and what todo?
Nandroid Restore. I assume you did make a nandroid right after you successfully rooted correct?
yeah its doing the nand. restore now. hopefully all is well. just waiting for it to finish restore.
ive never had a problem rooting, my g1 always worked fine.
ah phew, thankfully I had a backup. and i was thinking, is their honestly any reason to go to a rom atm? I mean for my g1 I used one because it was faster, quicker, more features, and had apps2sd.
but atm for hero atm doesnt look like a top notch one yet?
also can the stock rom with root do apps2sd?
and easiest way?
firstboot scripts can keep your phone at the htc boot animation for 5-10 minutes. I don't know if you waited that long or not but generally I have seen that first boot with a custom rom take a little while to get things setup right.

He already stated he waited way more than 10 mins....
Fresh 1.0 makes your phone quicker, I wasn't going to ROM until a really customized and polished one came along but after trying Fresh, I'd highly recommend it.
hi all, just got my hands on a htc hd2 and iv loaded [BUILD][19.12.10]-=MDJ FroYo HD v.4.6=-[FRG83D][kernel:MDJ S8.0] onto it no problem, got it running great, only thing is when i switch the phone off and back on it loads windows mobile again, then i have to run the android files again and let it install itself again, in the mean time losing all my settings, iv read theres a way to autoboot android on startup but cant really find anything about it, is this possible, and if so could someone run me through how to do it, wouldnt mind if it was just to reboot the android firmware, but when im losing all my settings and apps its no good, any help on this much appreciated as im still a newbie really to this phone.
When you boot up android from SD card, the first boot usually takes 10-15 minutes (varies from build to build). During this first startup, a new file in your android folder is created called 'data.img'. This is the file which your android build uses to store all the settings/apps/customisation etc.
When you restart your phone, before you boot into android, look in your android folder for 'data.img'. If it is missing then the android startup will take 10-15 minutes again, but if it is present it should only take 2-3 minutes. If it takes 10-15 minutes every time then you probably want to re-download the build and try again.
Also, dual-booting options are available, but check to see if this works first.

try installing MAGLDR, it deletes WinMo en it has the option to install Android and WP7 in NAND, and it can load Android from SD

But the best of all: it has Tetris included
Well, usually when I boot my TMN 2.1 ROM, I see a TMN splash screen and then the regular Android boot animation with the glowing text.
However, from day before yesterday, this is not happening. The TMN splash appears and the screen goes blank. Then after some time the regular Android text animation appears and immediately loads the launcher/home.
Everything appears to be working fine. Even the time taken for boot looks normal but the screen suffers a blackout for some time during the boot.
Any idea how to fix it or why this happens?
In my lg gt540 reference thread in developers part there is a post about possible solutions when you brick your phone, check it out, hope it helps!

Check if you don't get to see recovery too. If so then is bricked but not big deal just check my thread and do what is in there
Now if you manage to get in recovery try flashing boot.img again but always erase then flash. What was the last ROM you flashed?

Am in the stock ROM with fastboot. The ROM used to work fine. I installed a few apps and ubuntu(from nexus one hacks)... The recovery works fine too..
The boot animation(Android logo) is stored in boot.img? Not in system.img? Looks like I will need a bit of tinkering to extract boot.img from the kdz.
Anyway, thanks. I could just try a clean flash. Restoring apps is the only pain since I use link2sd. I should've made a NAND before that day. :/
I am looking to start over from scratch. I have CM7 running off emmc with 7.1 but I just want to redo this from the beginning. The reason I want to do this is because the boot time on my Nook is like 2 mins 30 secs where my dads rooted nook color is on in like 30 seconds. So what is the best way to start this process over? Reboot to recovery and just wipe everything or should I write the clockwork image to the sd card and really start from the beginning. Will it make a difference? Thanks in advanced.
What version of CM7 are you using now? RC, nightly? Do you have ROM Manager? I am running one of the latest nightlies. While it doesn't boot in 30 seconds, it is no where near 2 1/2 minutes. If it were mine, I would download ROM Manager if you do not already have it. (Make sure you have a non bootable SD card installed as you generally need it anyway and will with ROM Manager.) First check that you have the latest version of Clockwork Recovery installed. ROM Manager will tell you if you do not and you can install it from there. Then pick a nightly in ROM Manager. 132 would be a good start as it has an OC kernel in it. Choose that along with the market (box to check), then install. Only check off the box to wipe Davlik cache. It will take a bit to download and install and much longer to reboot the first time. See if this helps before going through the trouble of a complete wipe. CM7 will take longer in general as it has much more to it than a rooted stock ROM. Also, if you do not yet have it, download and install Titanium Backup before you do any of this and back up your apps to your SD card.
I'm running the latest RC. I do have rom manager with the latest CW installed. I have titanium pro which backs up to my drop box account. So I guess I can do what you suggest. It just seems so painfully slow on start up, especially with SOD it gets annoying waiting so long to use my nook.
There were issues with nightly 132-134. I would suggest 140 as a good starting point as it fixed several wifi and SOD issues. Also the first few nights after combining with dals OC had some issues with slow graphics. All good now. Just saying.....

I just timed a reboot, I'm running n142 (today's).
After 30 seconds, the shutdown and u-boot are done and the boot animation starts.
About 40 sec after that, the animation brightens and stutters a little bit (this means something, but I don't know what).
Ten seconds after that, I get the home screen.
Overall, less that a minute and a half. Note that booting after a ROM flash will take longer because it has to recompile the system jars.
So I usedthese instructions to be able to dualboot ICS and CM7 off of my nook, and now when I don't mess with my nook for long enough, like the screens about to go off, it will show the Read Forever screen and boot into stock, making me lose the webpage and have to shut down then boot back up again. If it helps this has only knowingly happened while booted into CM7. If somebody could tell me how to fix this I would totally appreciate it,
That's odd
I never hit that problem so can't help much.
You're telling us that you are using either CM7 or CM9 off uSD, the screen time out and it automatically boot into eMMC (which stock ROM resides)? That's just odd.
