Refreshing Facebook Contact Photo

Hello All,
Am new to HTC Android Phone. I have setup my contacts photos to be picked up from the respective Facebook Profiles. Although this happened the first time, if a contact changes the photo on facebook it is not getting updated in the phone? Is there a way to manually force an update??
Facebook sync is enabled (i guess once every 12 hours) and it has been several days since the contact updated the profile pic on FB.

I have the same problem, my contacts aren't updated >.<
Pretty annoying, but I have not found a way yet to fix it. Looks like a problem with facebook for android.
If anyone has more information, please tell us

It seems that the facebook sync method doesn't check if the facebook profile pic is updated or not. Probably to save network bandwidth and sync time. But it is kind of annoying that it is not updated.

I have exactly the opposite problem. The pictures assigned to my contacts in google keep getting updated with those in facebook. While I don't mind that for contacts that do not have pictures in Google, it is quite annoying for such that do.

i pressed the sync all widget and all my face book images updated
my legend is rooted and running the modaco rom tho

Strange that it works for you. Can't see how a root or new rom would change anything. I have the same problem, using stock unrooted rom. Kinda hoped it would be fixed with new update, but no luck

Where is this "sync all" button? I am not able to find it. Is it something specific to the rom?

I was also facing the problem of getting updated display pic from facebook and thought that there wasn't anyway to solve.. until after i ran into the FriendStream problem.
My FriendStream started acting strange and refuses to update friends' status today, it force closes when i try to launch the application proper. After reading up online, I did what others suggested, remove the facebook account and re-add it to FriendStream.. It got my FriendStream working again, plus a bonus - it "re-linked" with all my contacts in People and updated their profile pics! =D
Might take a while for it to fetch all the display pics again though, so I'd recommend doing it with a WiFi connection

My facebook profile pics update but there is a major delay between 12 and 24 hours) even though facebook and friend screen update every 10 minutes

my FB pictures don't updates, and worse, new FB contacts don't appear in my phone book. when I manually sync my FB account, there is a process that returns an error
the solution I found to force an update was to run friend stream, friends, facebook, menu, update
it takes some time

i know this is an old thread so hoping there was a better fix for this issue? terribly annoying

Doing a refresh in the friendstream app updates the photo in the app but not the contact photo
I have found no way to update the photos till now... have even tried unlinking the Facebook profile from the contact and readding - no use...

But I do hope that this gets fixed with a software update.

Facebook Sync not working?

I'm running a custom ROM but it's a stock ROM, with Darchstars GodMode overclocked kernel. Also, I'm using Launcher Pro and not Sense. My problem is that for some reason, my Facebook contacts will not sync... I'm using the stock method for syncing contacts (Account and Sync; Facebook for HTC Sense)

Mine hasn't been working either. Running stock 2.1 with launcherpro.
Swyped from my Sprint Hero via XDA app.

Facebook sync is down. Google it. It's a problem on there end not ours. If u were synced then it works. If ur trying to start a new sync then its down

You can download syncmypix (it's free). Wham, bam, thank you sir

Go to Facebook->Application Settings and remove HTC Sense. Then delete the Facebook sync from settings and add it again. This might fix it but I'm still waiting for it to sync.
Nevermind, didn't work.

It is working for other androids. It seems to only be a problem with 2.0+ syncing.
When I first got my phone (Vibrant) on 7/15 it worked fine then it didnt give me updates so i tried removing then re-adding facebook to accounts and sync and it no longer works, even tried doing a factory reset. Still nothing. So it went from working fine, to not working for some reason.

If you re-added your account or did a first sync after it stopped working, it won't work. If it was already working before it should still work.

I take it it's still broken. I just installed Fresh Rom, and it still will not sync my contacts.

Yep, HTC has said to try doing one of the following:
1. Try adding a city and state to your current job in Facebook.
2. Try deleting your current company in Facebook.

Doesn't work either.

I just got mine to synch up. Might want to give it a try now and see if it works for you. I went about it a round about way but it is working and Friendstream is showing content from facebook again.

How did you get it to work? It isn't working for me.

I guess I am not as lucky

You know this is pretty sad but I can't seem to figure out how exactly I did it. I went into a contact under People and was messing with the picture somehow and it gave an option for facebook. Signed in from there. Since I did it there I have been able to remove my facebook account from accounts and sync and then add it from there.
Edit:
It's working for live updates but doesn't seem to work for synching contacts though. My list of Facebook contacts is blank when I try to link an existing contact with a Facebook contact.

You can use syncmypix from the market. I'm using it as a temporary workaround.

Yea I found that today. It works pretty good.

Started working again about 5 mins ago. Finally.

Yea looks like they are getting it straightened out. Just noticed a little bit ago that my contacts were syncing with facebook again.

Yep, was in Messages and saw the facebook logo by the contact icons

[Q] Facebook Friendlist and Google Contact?

Hey all,
Does anyone know a direct or indirect way to import FB friendlist to the x10 contacts, then merge them with Google contacts (Same as in HTC Sense).
I did manage to link 3 of my Google contacts to their FB account manually (Contact->Edit->Link Contact). Though, I still didn't get everything from this linkage, almost nothing other than the status. It didn't import my friends' display pics and albums, not even their special events like Birthday. I am sure there is a way somehow to do so. Does anyone know it?

wait until 2.1 is out. 1.6 doesn't have this feature. my bro Moto CliQ, i also tried on LG GW620. But Nexus One can do this as its a 2.1 features.

That is good, I am looking for this feature too as I used to have it in my HD2. So now, I only use the SyncMyPix to sync the facebook profile photo and link to my contact.

i used to look for apps, then also link all my contacts to facebook and twitter manually.
after numerous amount of debrand, and root updates. and i never to backup. i don't bother to do it anymore. hehe.
previously, i even browse around all my facebook friends, take their hi res profile picture and put to xperia contacts, now i don't do it anymore. lol.

Setting up a new Nexus S, having a problem

Hey!
Just got my new Nexus S, moving onward from Nexus One. Just encountered a rather wierd problem, with facebook sync. After I've installed the facebook app and loged inn; I didnt get the option to sync contacts. When i go to account & sync, the facebook sync isent there. If i try to add it, it just goes back to the main account & sync screen. Ive tried to reinstall the facebook app several times now. Anyone know how to fix this?

A while back, Google decided to remove our ability to sync our contacts with the Facebook app, as a protest to Facebook's policy on privacy and being able to download your data from your facebook account. Annoying really, since I'd much rather just have sync than be played in some Google vs. Facebook power trip, as if Facebook truly care that a tiny minority of their mobile users are now unable to use a feature of their app.
If some details are slightly off, I'm sure I'll be corrected.

Thats wierd. Ive always been able to join my FB and google contacts on my N1.

They only did this on the NS. The way to bypass it is to use a custom rom like cm7

Nope, no camera zoom either.

I would flash SuperAosp 6.0 rather than Cyan. IMO its way better and smoother..
of course, superaosp also allows facebook sync

Hmm. I guess I should try that one out then. The thing with Cyan is that I dont even use half of it's functions. Does the SuperAosp give me the 720p and zoom on the camera?

Contact pictures disappeared!

Not sure what when wrong, but I no longer have any contact pictures, only Skype contacts have pictures now. In google pictures are still in place, they simply disappeared from the phone contacts. I have a strong suspicion that this happened after recent update of Skype... Anyone faced a similar problem? And how shell I restore pictures now???

Have you tried to go to Contacts(People) and checked on settings which contacts are displayed? If that's not the case try to unlink your Gmail account from your phone...but that means you would have to reset.

I tried to go to People->Accounts-> chose my google account. There was an option to force syncing. It showed me that everything is synced now. Yet there are no pictures!

You have to go in to Settings>Accounts>Google, then select your account. Then hit your menu in top right corner and remove the account.
Then you re add it and it will sync up.
However removing the account will delete all messages,and other data from it.
So if you want to save the data or messages better back them up first.

well:
1) Go to GMail contacts in your computer (not on the phone).
2) Select ALL your contacts or only My Contacts and mark them as "Starred in Android".Or even better: make a new label lets call it "repair" and mark all the contacts/my contacts as "repair"
3) The previous step forces Google to sync the contacts in GMail with the phone (with picture and all). It will take a while depending on the number of contacts that you have, so be patient and leave the phone alone while it is doing the sync.
4) After some 10 or 15 minutes (I have about 300 contacts), all the pics of GMail contacts appeared on my phone
5) Now, go you may to GMail contacts again and select ALL your contacts and uncheck the "Starred in Android" or "repair" option. Again, this will take a few minutes while GMail syncs with your phone.
I prefer to use only "My contacts" as it will be logical thats the only place with pictures in it.

By the way. I have the idea that, as soon as you restart Skype on your Android your pictures dissappear again.
Be very careful with contacts on your phone who lost there picture. If you edit one of them on your phone it will synch to Google of course without the picture.

That was a good advise indeed! I managed to restore contact pictures. Then I started skype again - and now I have no more pictures again. So I can definitely say this problem is due to skype... So now I have dilemma: either live without contact pictures, or live without skype... Nice

Indeed, Skype destroys the pictures.
However strange that not many people complain about this.

Oh yes, it is really strange that this problem is not bothering anyone... Or is it just me who have this problem?? I tried to google it, thinking that maybe there is a solution somewhere in skype settings. But I could not find anything! For the moment I just disabled contact syncing with skype via telephone settings. Let's see if it helps...

Disable Skype contact synching! That's seems to solve it. Great idea. never thought about that option.

Even I had the same issue and had to disable Skype syncing so that i get the pictures back.
How can MS release the update without testing it properly!
Also, there is nobody on the internet talking about it except some few of us...i don;t know why aren't they bothered at all...as good as nobody noticed it...

Happened to me too yesterday. Microsoft..yey!
Quick fix with ON/OFF starred contacts in android.
Definitely stop syncing Skype contacts! :good:

And so do many others, probably... They don't blame Skype, I think.

i actually have the same problem.( GALAXY S4 ) it started about a week ago, contact pictures decided to dissappear, after i updated skype, im gonna try to uncheck the contact sync for skype and will report back

Same problem - HTC Desire X. After installing Skype 4 update all contacts photos (Google) disappeared. Syncing via Starred, after Skype sync photos again disappeared. Uninstall Skype 4, install 3.2 = contacts photos OK, but Skype contats synced only cca half... and without avatars.

LOL, I just couldn't live without skype.
But you can alter to Whats app or viber.
Recently I use Wechat. That's a instant messaging app from a Chinese firm. Convenient but still Skype holds most users.

Did you try to change the settings IN Skype where you can opt for NOT synchronizing contacts?
That should be enough.
Skype works fine with that option switched of..
And it will show all your existing Skype contacts.
