Hi this thread will may give sony the push they need to start and develop another generation of Play2.
anyone who would support and would buy Xperia Play2 that will have a minimum of a quad CPU and some future wonderful GPU if it will be out, please replay to this thread.
only if your answer is yes reply else we don't need you
The Xperia Play was a flop in business yo Sony, they didn't make much from it, they were expecting millions and millions to be sold. Usually companies don't waste time on a successor if the original was not popular.

VIVA xpeRia pLAY 2
quad core , tegra 3 ... i'll buy that , and don't care how much that will be
It's because people are greedy that XPlay hadn't the success Sony hoped for. People wanted XPlay to have from the beginning 500 optimised games, ability to play PSP games, Android 5, quad-core etc. But I'm happy that only smart people are owners of XPlay, the others still playing games with their thumbs covering 30% of the screen.
That's how customers are nowadays, they want everything to have the Apple logo, to be perfect, to be popular.
Also, about XPlay 2, Sony will surely do it in the future. It will be something big, a great gaming phone. Unfortunately, right now they have to sell PS Vita's before that.
Does anyone actually have sales data for the xperia play? I know it didnt exactly blow the walls of all known sales records, but I don't think it was a loss making flop like some make it out too be, but if anyone can say im wrong please present the evidence.
The play had a couple of drawbacks on release which really hampered its sales, im hoping sony is going to sort these out and try again, they may not, in that case i will be waiting for a high end slider.
According to this, in september 2011 sony said xperia play sales were meeting expectations. Hardly the flop its rumored to be, but also not a huge success. Truth is, it sold an expected quantity, so there's no reason to think that it won't get a successor. No strong reason to believe it will either.
Yes I think we need an Xperia Play 2. The Xperia play was very good but a little late with the tech inside and this led to a lot of hate from many reviewers. I would say if people at least gave it a try they would change their minds, I mean it is every bit as good as the Nexus S with the bonus of physical gaming controls.
xperia play 2...at least 4.0 AOS for x play.

I support this thread completely. If this phone came out tomorrow I would pre-order it. However, the biggest issue I haver with the first is its incompatibility with other sony devices, ps3 primarily. I understand this is an OS issue and would like to see a vita OS if possible. I know that is a legal issue. Although if it were done properly in the first place this phone would have been a significant flagship phone. Either should have "gone big or gone home". I would give them another chance. Possibly another one if they actually tried, moreover, if they don't try I'm gunna give them fewer chances. One last thing, samsung could have made a device more compatible with sony products.
Its funny, if a phone doesn't get close to iPhone sales figures then its considered a flop. Since there is a zillion different android phones you can consider all of them a flop as androids market share is split between countless manufacturers. The curse of the open os.
If you think about it, xplay is no more a flop than android is.
There are far to many android models. You need a company to make a gaming phone and only a that. Sony has at least 10 different models competing with its on xplay.

Seems we have an ifanboy.. haha.. I like options. Unlike the iphone which is..one phone..and no, not all android phones are "flops", but hey you should look at some sales figures and then see actual sales then come back and reply until then, don't assume.
lol I am anti apple, just telling it the way it is
Geez you either can't read very well or you took my post the wrong way.
Now-a-days it isn't the phone that's selling its the specs. If you see a new android on the market then you would also see heavily advertised specs about the phone. Bottom line and common sense would tell Sony that higher specs in the worlds only gaming phone would sell through the roof. Also maybe if the touch pads weren't such a big deal to configure for development and games then half the complaints and lost sales would not be what it is today. It doesn't take a genius to know what the ppl want so why is it so hard to put more effort and ambition in this device to make it more successful and up to date. Its simple you gonna sell seedless grapes instead of grapes with seeds in them because you know what ppl want and that's without the headache of spitting out seed after every grape. Stupid analogy but think about it it does make sense

i am a teenager (13) and i love y rooted and bootloader unlocked xperia play (i did it by myself) and all my friends say that it is a great phoone and that they want to have one. i think it should be continued, but made cheaper so more people between 13 and 18 can afford it (my parents are moderately rich and i got it within the first 6 months of release)
I don't see it happening. It treads too much on the toes of the Vita and was probably Ericsson who pushed for it to happen before. So either Sony is going to see that the future of mobile gaming is integration with smartphones or they're going to continue down the dead end road with the likes of the Vita, in which case the Xperia PLAY 2 won't see the light of day.
The Xperia PLAY didn't do as well as it could have because it was released with 1 year old specs and reviewers are generally unforgiving of that. For an Xperia PLAY 2 to be a success, it would need following:
- Dual/Quad core GPU
- 1GB RAM
- 720p resolution display
- Tegra GPU (not as powerful as others but nvidia is and will continue to buy the market with exclusives)
- 8GB internal memory with expandable memory.
- PSP games - the vita can emulate PSP games, so I don't see this as being unrealistic.
- Better gamepad integration for devs with built in touchscreen to button mapper.
I just don't see it happening any time soon, especially while the Vita is still in play.
I think the future of mobile gaming will be integration with smartphones but sony isn't there yet. When they are, if they can develop the vita into an xperia play shell, they will have the market sewn up (they already have the decent game developers on-board).

At launch the Xperia Play wasn't too bad, the MSM8255 is still a fine performer.
As much as I hope for you guys a newer Xperia Play will arrive, a petition of any sorts will absolutely not help. Creating and releasing a phone requires months, if not one or two years of work. Especially something that would require so much extra development, new partners, extra quality control, content at launch, ... It's very hard to get all the cycles in the development process up to speed since a phone is something completely different from a console.
I'm in for the Xperia Play 2...
So far My perfect phone will be a Xperia Play with the 32GB Galaxy Nexus Screen and Guts... It's not that difficult Sony.
I will jump to the Galaxy Nexus while I wait...for it
It's all obvious. The Play was launched with old specs for a phone at the time, never mind a phone that should have been cutting edge to be a gaming phone. It's been said many times, but a phone that is up-to-date spec-wise with a gamepad would sell unbelievably.

Just came across this. Sony's chief marketing officer announced no plans for a Xperia PLAY 2.

I simply hate touch screen controls and dont see myself getting another phone unless it has the game controls....so much better then touchscreen.
I really don't get it sow much people want an xperia play 2 or a phone like this but sony keeps saying no, why :s make an xperia play HD or at least a phone wits psych controls is enough for the most i think

Personally, I think that with a focus on the playstation experience, an xperia play 2 is inevitable.

Yeah, me too. A shame that they are not planing it just yet.
If it wasn't for the release price of the Xperia Play, I think that more people would have bought it. At least here, in Portugal.
It's still too early to be announcing the Xperia Play 2 cause the Vita was released a few months ago.
I bet SE were thinking, "How great are we, a part of a gamepad that is sort of a touchscreen, not buttons? Aren't we clever and innovative?"
Hmmm... No.

I think the decision as of now would be no more XP2
Bcz XP is successfully as a play phone, but for help much to expend the PlayStation @ Android market.
I think for Sony, their aim is to sell the game but not just the phone.
Sony has sunk a lot of cash into the slow to react vita.... This is the reason for no ics.... Or a ver. 2......

It's easy to understand: if the Playstation Certified brand becomes a success then maybe we'll see a Xperia Play 2.
I don't get why Sony tries to piss off so much the XPlay owners/commmunity. Instead of continuously giving out bad news for the device, they should try to reconcile with us by giving something else in change.
Although Sony is a nice company with great ideas, concepts and products, they seem to fail at this matter. I am still waiting for a good update for XPlay with many new additions.
It won't be an Xperia Play 2. It'll be a "Playstation Phone"
It won't be either, Sony wanted to kill the play ever since they found out someone bought one instead of a vita.
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
Whatever they do, a phone with Vita OS won't stand a chance.
First, majority of people need their phone to be dependable and secure, and NOT be a "plaything". An OS that evolved around a game console simply won't be treated seriously by consumers.
Second, Apps from all the major players are required such as google map, gmail, facebook, twitter, flash player, whatsapp, youtube, dropbox, etc... needless to say there's always arm-twisting between these, and other companies, to prevent any new OS from succeeding.
Without a serious image and support from these companies, a phone running on such an OS won't hit a critical mass required to attract app/content developers, and it will flop even harder than Xperia PLAY.
At this time, the next Xperia Play's best OS choice is still Android. But even then, I think Sony really dislike the idea of Playstation ecosystem sitting on top of Android. They may think it changes too fast, too many different hardware, or difficult to control piracy.
So even the best choice is not appealing. So I think Sony won't be putting Playstation content on Smartphones for years yet. And that's a shame because It think that's exactly what we all want happening now.
If you haven't heard, Sony and HTC are now partners with regards to PlayStation Certified devices, domains that's where the next Xperia PLAY will come from, although I haven't seen a flip or slide phone from HTC that sold well since the mytouch 4g. All I can say is that the next series of android phones will be very interesting to see, and only then can we truly discover where the xperia play will go.

I'm seriously hoping HTC produces a phone with a gamepad. I've had a thing against sony for a long time (going back to before PS3 launched, but its gotten ever worse ever since). I was seriously biting the bullet to get this phone for its gamepad functionality. I've always wanted an HTC phone, and if they manage to come out with a game phone with decent specs, I'll be all over it. Anything to shoot sony the bird.
If they gave the xperia play higher specs and made it more future proof then they would be seeing them starting to fly out now. Ironic at e3 they were saying they only put out the best.

Rather Xperia Neo L (rumors about escaping from China), Xperia GX (international release - cool phone btw) or Xperia ION (another nice phone).
But if they announce XP2... this would be the most exciting day we've ever had, I think :-D

Not a chance that it will be the PLAY2, simply wont happen.
My guess is a phone that no one cares about, like the Xperia ion.
Queue the disappointment
Might actually be XP2. The message says "something fun". A gaming phone is something fun.
Or then again it might be some engineering wonder phone with awesome specs but not controls, ergo a useless gaming device but decent phone and great gadget.
Maybe some PSP games like Daxter or Syphon Filter for Playstation Certified devices finally?! Sony, where are you?
I think it could possibly be some bigger title games or something software related but I highly doubt it'll be an xplay2 this phone was a bomb sales wise and only a certain crowd was attracted to it and it makes no sense for them to make another more powerful version so soon. Xperia play 2 = pipe dream! The odds are better to win the lottery or get struck by lightning

- The Xperia Play is aprox. 1 year old.
- The "Playstation Certified" ecosystem is too much young, 1 year aprox. too.
- All the "Playstation Certified" devices haven't recieved the Playstation Suite (Playstation Mobile now).
Because all of this, I don't exepct a possible Xperia Play 2 at least after one year or more.

I agree. "Something fun" is completely dependent on what Sony thinks it's consumers will regard as being "fun." That could be music, movies, games, exercise, or any other aspect of "entertainment" that Sony already has its hands in. Honestly, don't expect too much from this news. Remember the last big announcement? There was all the hype about the PS Store adding new games or making the US able to buy games or whatever, and it ended up being nothing special.
I'd say move along, there's nothing to see here. At least wait for the actual event to talk about it, rather than build up your fanboy hopes. Like Miles Wolf said, don't hype yourselves up just to end up flooding the forums with your disdain that it wasn't what you expected/wanted.

Just seen the new phone (miro) God knows who comes up with these gays names. I don't get which part of this phone is meant to be fun. OOOOOoooo Facebook integration!! Erm Sony Facebook integration is a thing of the past, many phones have succeeded some haven't. But the fact is you brag about yourselves being 'innovative' the only innovative thing you can't see are the consumers who want something different to what you are doing. That's not to say you won't sell many phones, pretty sure they, ll be hundreds flying out. However in a world of many smartphones the war is tight and every single sale counts, so if the numbers don't add up at the end. Don't come questioning the minority that left.

How is this news connected with the xperia play section?
Oh god, no. Now don't begin to flood all the forum moaning about that new phone.
Why the hell did you think it was going to be a Xperia Play 2? Even there was the anouncement that Sony was not developing this phone...
A gaming phone with quad core, 1 GB RAM, etc.? Are you serious Sony would make a machine like that to make direct competition with the Playstation Vita?
Get real. And grow up.

your not really thinking about what your saying, when have sony ever confirmed the existence of any phone before they are ready? and why would they anyway? that's what MWC, CES and their own events are for
the specs to an extent dont matter, a play 2 could have better specs then a vita but if it doesn't have veta games, your average joe gamer wont care, hell, neither would i
an easy solution would be to limit a play 2 to PSP1 games only, there would be no conflict there and sony could build on that as cell phone gaming evolves

Hey everyone, I've been an Xperia Play user since 2011, and my contract is ready for an upgrade. At first, I planned on keeping this phone for the next 2 years, but I've decided to give Apple a chance and I've switched to the iPhone 4. It's been a blast being a part of the Xperia Play community! I want to thank you for all of the support!
I've moved to the iPhone 4 because I've had an iPod Touch 4G for a while and I absolutely LOVED tweaking with it as a jailbroken device! While that was over a year ago, I'm excited to see what is now new with iOS6 and so on for the next 2 years. I can almost promise that my phone after that will be an Android or Windows based phone, but it's nice to have some variety. I'll still be around every once in a while to see what's going on with you guys in the Xperia Play development, but I'll mainly be on XDA's iDevice branch. Thank you all SO much!

I've switched from my Xperia at least four times, most of those while I was employed by AT&T (yeah, don't want to talk about it, but it was nice to try other phones). My recent switch was for a bigger android phone, but just kept coming back to the Play. I guess I like it that much more, and it's probably because of the games. A big kid at heart me thinks. Anyways, being a manager of a phone repair shop now means I have lots of access to parts, so probably just going to refurbish my phone back to it's original glory. Replace the white housing, get a new digitizer, LCD needs to be replaced seeing as there's slightly brighter spots, new battery, new ribbons and antennas and voila! New phone. It's too easy guys. If you love your Xperia Play that much and holding out like I am for a successor, I'd take the money and effort and just do it!
