I've purchased a second hand xda2, and found (not entirely to my suprise) that the battery life wasn't great - typically less than a day even if it had sit in the charging cradle the previous night.
So i went to o2 shop yesterday lunch time and purchased a new battery. They charged it for me on a rapid charger - took 30 minutes. However by the time I got home at 8.30pm the XDA2 was reporting very low battery - this is the new one - So I put that down to the rapid charger and I fully charged that one over night last night and took it out of the cradle at about 8 this morning.
It's already reporting 57% percent battery.
Now ok, i'm aware I've been using BT a lot to sort my active sync this morning etc, but surely battery life should be better than this? I used to have an IPAQ and that needed recalibrating because it was incorrect at guessing how quickly the battery would drain. Does this happen with the XDAs? if so how can I recalibrate or is something else likely to be draining the batt?
Thanks
Anthony
well the manual say you have to charge it for 24hours or so the first time
i would try to do that
also look if it's the normal batt or backup batt which is complaining
otherwise the batt life should inc the more times you charge it

Ok i'll try leaving it in the cradle over the weekend and switch back to my normal phone - backup battery is 100%. My old battery is in the aux battery holder in the cradle and has been since 1.30 this morning so maybe tommorow i'll give that one a whirl again!
Thanks
Try it with bluetooth switched off for a day and see if you get a different result. The other possibility is if you're in a low coverage area and your phone is constantly polling for network availability - is this likely to be the case?
If none of these apply, are you running any other peripherals, e.g. SD Wireless card? Just trying to whittle down the possibilities before blaming the hardware.
rgds,
Alex.

Make sure that you don't have the Blackberry Software running unless yoou're using Blackberry ! (Check the taskbar for an envelope icon). If you do run it, and you're not connected / subscribed to a Blackberry service then you'll get less than 12 hours on your battery.

Hi...
I've the following problem:
Sometimes my mini gets all mixed up on battery life. Maybe after an allnight charge when I unplug it from the cable it will say 0% battery. After a soft reset everything will go back to normal. Sometimes it will show the battery at 67% for example and then a second after at 0% and the backup charging. Very strange behaviour.
I have spb 3.0 and that also shows me the battery "strangeness".
Anybody have an answer to this?
Thanks
Chebas

That souns very much like some kind of hardware problem. As far as I know the electronic circuits that check and measure the battery cells are included on the battery itself nowadays. You should open the battery bay, take out the battery and see if the contacts on the side of the battery need some attention. If they look dirty scrape them clean with a needle or small knife or something like this. Also, check if the contacts on the XDA-side are in good condition. The rest on springs and llow for some movement, check if they all move freely of if one is stuck or something.
I think this could solve your problem...

I just noticed that some characters are missing in my above posting. I have to admit that the keyboard on this laptop sucks the big ones. If someone is offended or confused by the mistakes produced here are some replacement characters to insert at your discretion: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.

More Info
I checked the battery pack and there wasn't anything weird or that shouldn't be there. What I find is that you can see the battery app that is in the settings menu and you can see the indicator change from 100% to 0 in a few seconds and back. It gets worse with an SD card, when I remove my sd card and soft reset it works better.
Any thoughs?
Thanks
sounds like a hardware issue or battery problem.
(1) Do a full backup of your device (use something like Sprite Backup)
(2) Do a hard reset of your device
(3) Install only SPB Plus to check battery indicator
(4) See if you get the same battery issue
If so, battery could be failing or is an hardware issue. Next step would be to get your hands on a new battery and see if the same thing happens.
Hi, i've the following problem: every time that i'm removing the battery from the phone when i'm restarting it the clock time is not more right.
I've to set the clock again.
Is it normal?
Have the phone a backup battery to mantein the time?
thanks
Have your HD2 get it's time from the internet. I am running a NAND Android ROM right now so I can not go through my HD2 to refresh my memory but Just go to your settings tab and keep going through your settings there and you will find option. Hint you eill have to select a sub option in one of the settings that you touch on to see the option, sorry I can not give you a step by step guide.
Hi i've already disabled the option to receive the time from internet, but i've the same problem: everey time i'm removing the battery the clock losts the right time and i've to set it again.

No don't disable it, I was telling you to enable it as it will help keep you clock set to the correct time. Sorry if I was unclear.
i've done as you described and the time difference between the real time and the hd2 clock is decresead but there is yet.
Have the phone a memory battery to mantain the clock time without the main power/battery?

No the battery is the main source of power. for the HD2 unless you have it plugged into the wall charger. And even if you have it plugged into the wall charger but the battery is out you would have to bridge to of the battery pins to make it turn on.
Now how exactly the phone keeps time if you pull the battery out is a unknown to me. But lube someone else here can fell you and I in on how this works.

I suspect there is a capacitor in line somewhere that is good for a few minutes, designed to allow one to change out the battery.
But you bring up an interesting point. Even when I power off my HD2, when I power it back on the time is correct. Of course, I have it set to get the time off the network, maybe it is doing that when it connects.

On the phone's mainboard is soldered a small tablet battery just as for handwatch but with leads, may be it is depleted. If You can handle a soldering iron, it's no problem to change it, else go to service.

Rock on brother teach me some more.
I guess it's a lithium battery or a EDLC (Electric double-layer capacitor) like in any other digital device with on-board RTC but a very small one
yep, it's a lithium - manganese dioxide cell. The problem with those found in cellphones is that they are not quite rechargeable. Normally they aren't supposed to discharge in the typical lifetime of these devices but prolonged exposure to heat is their main enemy (they can be damaged by temperatures above 50-60 degree).
I don't remember it's exact placement, but from pvii's pictures and what i remember from disassembling my hd2.. i guess it's just underneath the CPU
Careful when soldering there, you have a multi-layered pcb and the bga matrix for the cpu on the otherside.

The behaviour of my clock is very strange because when i'm removing the main battery it does not restart from the same time every time (if i'm removing the battery from a digital clock and every time it restarts at th same time es 12:00). Each time the clock has a different time but it is not right.
Could you explain me this, please?
thanks

A digital clock is a counting system. It counts pulses from a pulse generator and turn them into figures that we read as seconds, minutes, hours, days, months and years.
A simple digital clock does a hardware reset every time you replace the battery in it and starts count from default value, e.g. 12:00 or 00:00.
But a more sophisticated device as a mobile phone contains a more complicated real-time clock which is powered by two sources: an autonomous coin battery and voltage derived from main battery. Once backup battery discharged (still not 0V on it) and main battery is taken out clock may still run but with some errors in counts because clock pulse generator isn't properly powered, i.e. I take out main battery from my phone at 12:00 and put it back at 14:00. Then, if clock battery is discharged but not at 0V, my phone will show any hour between 12:00 and 14:00 but not 14:00 because of interruptions in the work of the generator. Phone's clock doesn't do a hardware reset after the main battery replacement. It will reset to default value only if backup battery is replaced i think, just as in computers.
"A real-time clock (RTC) is a computer clock (most often in the form of an integrated circuit) that keeps track of the current time. Although the term often refers to the devices in personal computers, servers and embedded systems, RTCs are present in almost any electronic device which needs to keep accurate time." ((c)Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real-time_clock)
Hi, if you are right i'm realizing that my backup battery is not working or it's discharged .
My phone is 6 months old.
is it possible this case?
is it possible to see when the phone has been made?
thanks

You should ask HTC when your mainboard has been made by providing them your IMEI but I doubt they will answer... Did you bought your phone from authorized HTC dealer? It's still under warranty? Then try to change it by warranty if clock stability is so important. 6 months is too fast for lithium clock battery to discharge I think.
Edit: Date of production is printed on mainboard but you should open your phone to read it
I'm not sure if this helps, but my phone went an hour ahead everytime I restarted/removed the battery. When I went to WinMo settings>personal>phone
and disabled the time synchronization from GSM services the problem was solved.

Hi guys! You have two answers:
- It is not a real problem but a bad representation of your battery level. Batterystats.bin is a file under /data/system. In this file the phone saves information about your battery level and capacity. Using the saved values, system can create the battery icon, making a level or another. This file is auto-generated, so if u delete it, you are cleaning the battery information in your device. If the saved information isn't real maybe you seem to have 30% battery but the real battery charge is 1%, so my suggestion is:
1. Download an explorer (I would recommend Root Explorer)
3. Charge the phone until the top, let it discharge until the phone cannot reboot
4. Charge it till 100%, unplug it from charger
5. Reboot and connect it back to the charger till 100% again. Unplug it
6. Go to /data/system and delete batterystats.bin
7. Use the phone normally
If the problem isn't solved in 1-2 days then...
- It is a real problem, may be caused for who main reasons:
The kernel isn't making a good management of the energy. Flash another kernel and set up proper CPU Values to get a good battery life . Configure the cpu frecuencies using an app for so, like trickster mod, cpu master, franco kernel updater, you have a lot... Also undervolt your phone if u think it is necessary too.
Your hardware is broken somewhere, maybe a bad battery, or something overcharged or wrong there. Contact Google SAT and praise for it to be a factory bug lol
I am sorry for this big bible, but hope it is useful for you and the community

For a few days I was charging my S5 (900t) using a different cable, not the original (but the orginal charger).
After that, while using the phone, I felt that the battery started to drain more quikly... is it possible that battery was damaged as a result of using not an original cable? How can I check it?
Thanks
