just got nexus s 4g - Nexus S General

I just received my new nexus s 4g from sprint in the mail, there is an update for 2.3.5. What are the positives and negatives of updating to 2.3.5?

Mostly it's for the radio update that is coming with 2.3.5.
Just 2.3.5 is a preparation of Google's wallet and more changes that aren't visible first hand.

Are their any sense roms avaible for the nexus s 4g?

We had a Sense port in the Nexus S (non-4G) section, it caused some bricked phones. I can't recommend any right now.

not right now, one is being worked on.

Most of the changes require the 2.3.5 update and not just the radio such as improved wifi and speaker issues...cyanogenmod has incorporated 2.3.5 into their nightlies

Is the one click root a safe way to root? or should I just root my nexus s 4g manualy?

One click has worked fine for me. Seems safe enough.

[CAUTION] S-OFF Being Lost with OFFICIAL Froyo OTA

Hello everyone,
Just as a warning: you will LOSE your S-OFF if you apply the upcoming Froyo OTA directly from T-Mobile and be UNABLE to S-OFF again. IEF (AlphaRev developer) has not been able to hack the new HBOOT 1.0 (for Legend and Espresso) which will be distributed with the new Froyo OTA for our device. If you apply the OTA via the T-Mobile firmware update tool or through a zip-file provided directly by T-Mobile you will be permanently stuck S-ON.
The ONLY safe way to keep your S-OFF is to use Froyo ROMs provided by developers in the Developers section.
Hope this saves some sanity for others, but unfortunately I'm stuck S-ON now.
Wor. This is big. Thanks for the heads-up. I almost just did it to "play around".

It's not out yet, so you couldn't have done it. CR's ROM is not fully-stock... it has been modified to add root and remove the HBOOT.
I was referring to the official T-Mobile OTA firmware which isn't even being pushed to phones yet, but it will be SOON.
Really? I still have S-ON ever since I gained root lol
I haven't done S-Off....
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Come on nbetcher, you should have known better. Remember how OTA's bork your root access - it (to me) would be apparent that they would do the same for s-off. Is HBOOT a different version now though?
Their isn't a way to restore the old hboot? Wouldn't loading the stock 2.1 fix that?

yea flashing esprimg should bring the HBOOT back down to where IEF's AlphaRev would work. try it out nbetcher??

Any OTA update....
How do I exactly know that I'm getting an OTA update from Tmo? I noticed my sync icon in the notification bar has been showing since I booted my new slide.
Is that saying I'm getting one? will a box popup? what?
thanks for any information.

A notification about the update should appear.
The sync icon is normal, updates other stuff like news, t-mobile contacts, stocks, etc...

Thanks for the heads up! I thought about applying it when it released to have a bit of fun but since I'd lose S-OFF and have to re-root I'll just stick with CM7.
Has anyone even seen the froyo update for the slide?

I have heard that the slide will not get the OTA update. It proly has something to do with this merger with AT&T. They are going to want everyone to buy new phones now and offer all of these crazy deals for everyone just to trap you.

Screw the OTA.

Hey,
I'm currently running 2.3.3, and I've rooted my phone 1-2 weeks ago using GingerBreak (the app from the forums).
I'm curious if that method still works on 2.3.4? Anyone tried it?

Yeah but by the time I figure it out the EVO will have gone the way of the dinosaur. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I have thought about development (creating a rom) but I have little knowledge about coding and script writing.
Edit: it wouldn't be a concern for me but my usb port failed and my replacement came preloaded with the update.

What are u talking about it has already gone the way of the dinosaurs. It is end of life. I like the EVO 4g but its yesterday news. It had a long life of one year.

Yes, it is being worked on. I've seen a couple rumors that the Unrevoked team is getting close.
Also, keep in mind that the same root exploit is likely to work on both the OG EVO and the 3D, just like the rageagainstthecage exploit worked on multiple devices running Froyo.

Depends where the exploit is -- if it's in Gingerbread, yes. If it's in Sense 3, it wouldn't help us.
But regardless, I'm glad to hear unrevoked is making progress, even if it's just a rumor at this point.
omg I hope this is cracked soon. I had to go to the sprint store with my phone and doing so caused me to load the newest rom by sprint. Long Story but my power button broke. I am waiting for a replacement and hope it comes with older software. I really miss root and need my Synergy fix. I hope progress is made soon.
Sorry to hear that best wishes on the draw I'm in the stock box too
Omgadroid is Linux only
I might just be too used to jailbreaking ipads and iphones for friends, but is there no way to "downgrade" the evo to a jailbreak-able version?
Don't use it to downgrade don't update till ruu downgrades to a higher version then mod that ruu to in a sence upgrade to root

NS4G Creamed Ice Sandwhich

Ok, now that Beezy's post at Android Central has been locked, what's going on with ICS for the NS4G? I just read that the Eris has a port? Don't know if the Ice Cream has melted or if I'm looking in all the wrong places. Any info for the 4g version would be appreciated.

if you have the ns4g you need to download the port of his rom in the nexus s 4g forum. The non port is ns3g only. And at the same time I urge you to try aosp's ics rom, it is more complete mms works, GPS, etc just don't expect to find 4g working on any ics rom at the moment.
