Sony Ericsson User Interface on ATT Fuze

I know I'm super late but today I managed to play with a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. Honestly that phone is hands down the best WM6.1 phone to have come out in 2008. I fell inlove with the interface. Is it possible to put that interface on the ATT Fuze? I would LOVE my phone if it was possible.

Xperia x8 - shakira

Looks like SE are releasing a new model based on the X10, the X8 (Code name Shakira).
Here's the link:

Looks very nice, but a bit bulky...
they should rather focus on the problems of the old phones instead of producing new phones (and new unhappy consumers)

Very True. I think they'll losing in touch with the original Xperia line. I mean, what ever happened to Johny X? (he was supposed to be continued with the next Xperia phone). Also, the Xperia X2? Really.... it seems like it never existed. I'm glad there is a strong community for the Xperia X10, and the X1, probably the only thing keeping both phones alive. But, with sony introducing the X10 mini, mini pro, and X8... They're becoming the next (old) HTC... or HP or something....

Updates on X10 are also crap: We are not alone

Not related to X2 directly, but, a new sign that SE is one of the worst compaines in phone's market.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/23/sony-ericsson-pushes-android-2-1-upgrade-for-x10-family-back-to/
Poor guys. They doesn't know what are waiting when the 'already-delayed' Android 2.1 arrives...
Jolo.
i;m fully agreed with you the worst compaines in phone's market.
I wonder if we should take it as a good or bad news.... It appears that X10 series has been SE's jewel for the moment, and if its 2.1 update has been delayed so much, X2 would certainly be in the forever waitlist for any kind of movement! Besides, you know what, X2 has been pulled out of the market in Hong Kong! I happened to be one of the stupidest ones who bought it.......
The worst maker in this regard.
All their flagships have problems: X2, X10, Satio.
Shame. Messy company, no doubt.
I already using X10 changed from x2. Just my opinion: may be the update schedule is delayed, but actually x10 has no untoleranced bugs anyway. I mean minor bugs only.
Trust me, it is much better than x2. Just as I thought before.still no update for x2. I think we ust admit, SE already given up for x2.

You are too harsh. I have Satio and it works quite nicely. Sometimes it even does not reboot it self randomly for a whole day!
But as for X2... poor, sad X2. It is so nicely designed phone, with a faster CPU and proper support it could be a very nice machine.
i had such a lovely tiem with x1 (valkyrie roms)
then i try to have the same with chaming x2 with keyboard - but i have no more patience. i just get the ugly and huge htc hd2 and back to valkirye. there is dual boot to anroid 2.2 (works 90%) in case you want to change in a minute.
good luck to x2 user

Sony nears buying out Ericsson from venture: report

Sony nears buying out Ericsson from venture: report
(Reuters) - Sony Corp is nearing a deal to buy out Telefon AB LM Ericsson's stake in their 50:50 smartphone joint venture, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday citing people familiar with the matter.
The joint venture's two parent companies have regularly discussed the nature of Sony Ericsson's ownership structure, according to the report. It said the talks were ongoing and could break apart at anytime.
Ericsson and Sony declined to comment on the reported talks.
"We have a long-term commitment to our joint ventures," said an Ericsson spokesman.
Many analysts say Japan's Sony needs to assert control over Sony Ericsson if the venture is to recoup market share in the cut-throat world of smartphones.
Sony and Ericsson's joint venture, formed in 2001, thrived after its breakthrough with Walkman music phones and Cybershot cameraphones, both of which leveraged Sony's brands.
But it lost out to leaner rivals at the cheaper end of the market, and its share of total handset sales has dropped to below 3 percent from more than 9 percent at its peak.
"A buyout would make a lot of sense for Ericsson as I believe their share in the joint venture is worth to them between zero and minus 1 billion euros ($1.33 billion)," said Bernstein analyst Pierre Ferragu.
"Whatever price they agree on, it would be a positive for Ericsson," he said.
Shares in Sweden's Ericsson gained further on the report and closed 6 percent higher at 69.20 crowns on Thursday.
A full takeover of the venture would boost Sony's overall offering, which includes content, gaming devices, consumer electronics and even tablet computers, but is still missing its own smartphones.
"The buyout allows Sony to move development in-house and better integrate other products like gaming into newer phones," said Steven Nathasingh from U.S. technology research firm Vaxa Inc.
Last month at the IFA trade fair in Berlin Sony Ericsson's phones were presented inside the Sony hall, mixed with Sony's TV sets and new tablets.

Sony Is This Close to Paying $1 Billion for Full Control of Sony Ericsson
Sony sure had itself a day the other day, and rumor has it the tech giant may soon have itself all of the Sony Ericsson joint venture as well.
This according to a rumor reported by industry gaming pub Gamasutra, which reports Sony is oh so close to a $1 billion takeover of the mobile phone partnership that it currently shares a 50/50 deal with devices like the Xperia Play. That device, if you'll recall, bears the PlayStation brand and was 100% marketed to the masses as a game-playing device that happened to make phone calls.
But where would the acquired Sony Ericsson assets go? Again, according to rumor, the bits and pieces would be folded into Sony's PC and gaming wing as part of a streamlining maneuver to save cash and improve operations.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play owners or otherwise, does this sit well with you? [Gamasutra]
its good for both!!
through this deal Sony can compete better with Samsung/Apple..
If sony can keep the employees who designed the arc ill be happy either way. It's a win win for the consumer

Well, I have mixed feelings about this. Before the merger, Sony was failing miserably in the mobile phone sector. Their phones were just not up to standard. On the other hand, Ericsson was doing pretty well. If I recall the last Ericsson phone was the T68m which was a hit (it was later renamed T68i after the merger). The joint venture, Sony Ericsson, struck gold between 2004-2007 with their Walkman and Cypershot phones. They were very, very late in offering a high end smartphone which came in the form of the X10 in March of 2010 with sub-par software but, great hardware. This was 3 years AFTER the iPhone hit the shelves!
So I am really not sure how Sony will fair if they drop the Ericsson in "Sony Ericsson"?
I think it won't affect so much Ericsson. Or I thinks they shoudn't. If they really buy, they should just add more features to the phones, but keeps the employees from Sony Ericsson. Just a name thing.
Will still be a loyal sony ericsson fan either way. My 1st SE was the t100. It had a blue screen. Lol.

I agree. But, I do not think that they will keep it.
Do yo really think that sony-"we lock everything down and sue you if you unlock it" will continue down the path of helping devs and unlocked bootloaders that SonyEricsson just started walking upon?
I doubt it.
The name? Sony won't buy out Ericsson for anything less than a namechange. They won't pay billions just to keep label the product "SonyEricsson".
I think this is a good step for sony, but a very bad one for android.

Lol what the hell are you talking about.
SE offerred the first smartphone in 2002 or 2003 as P800 and than produced a range of top end smartphones until they lowered the bar with X2....
I doubt it will success, Sony always sells the brand name before the product.

Yes but, these were not popular or game changers. What I meant was the second surge of smartphones which started with the iPhone in 2007 and then the Android devices.

Well as for the iPhone it took LOOONG time for ANY company to respond and probably one of the first real success was HTC HD2. As for SE I don't agree, X1 was very impressive, just the legacy was not continued.
SE used to make great smartphones. The whole "P" series was somehow special (i owned p910i and p1i) and the p1i is still my all-time favourite SE. Then they released the first xperia which was a worth replacement for the p1i. It was even better than its main rival at that time the htc touch pro.
but then they decided to f**k it all up and released the x2.. and then the x10..
Now they seem to be on the right track though with the 2011 series.
i just hope that the takeover from Sony wont affect their future smartphones too much
I still have the P910a. That phone is a classic! Has a physical qwerty keyboard, jog dial and touchscreen. The best of all worlds! Also has one of the loudest speakers in the industry. The phone had horrific battery life though and SE's Symbian UI wasn't that good. I had the w600i. Did anyone ever own that phone? Remember the battery door flying out easily? LOL. SE quickly recalled the devices. Tried fixing it then discontinued it. I had the p990i. That was a disaster. Then I went on to own a number of walkman series devices. The best selling w810i which I still have. My fave was the w995a which died on me.
My fave cybershot phone is still the k790a, still have that too. I love the candybar style. I had the C905a. I went through a lot of SE devices. I have the Arc now. I was thinking about getting the X10a just in case the Sony Ericsson
name is no longer. What do you guys think? Am I crazy? Please go easy on your responses. LOL
Whatever happens, I hope Sony Ericsson makes a comeback.

Would like to say thanks to Sony Ericsson

Hello people,
I want to give my thanks to Sony Ericsson, because they have done what other manufacturers failed to do.
First of all, they are the only manufacturer so far that has pushed verizon into releasing kernel sources, and they are probably the only manufacturer that doesn't get pushed around by Verizon.
The reason (IMO) that we can't unlock bootloaders for CDMA phones Via SE's site is because Verizon just buy the hardware with the source and shift and change. If Verizon say that they will not allow unlocking of bootloaders, then it will not happen, because after all it is the Verizon Xperia Play and Sony Ericsson have little control over it.
Thanks for promising an ICS upgrade for us, even though our phone can be considered quite low spec compared to other devices. I don't get the X10 users at all, they say that Sony Ericsson is bad because they won't update the X10 to ICS even though HTC won't update there Desire S, Incredible S, DHD, Thunderbolt which have only been released since late last year.
Also, having a member on behalf of SE on this forum and part of the dev community is awesome, I had to blink a few times to read what the article said about the OFFICIAL ICS BETA.
Does any other manufacturer give you a way to unlock your bootloader, push verizon to release sources, and upgrade a single core £150 phone (£200 when I got it) to ICS?
To the whining x10 users who are ranting at SE for not giving them an ICS upgrade -> be thankful they gave you Gingerbread, how old is the x10 now? 18 months?
Google have a policy IIRC that a phone can only updated if it is less than 18 month old (why the first nexus did not get 4.0)
And thanks for bringing us so many Xperia Play optimized games! Almost 2 are released every week!
Keiran
You forget that beforehand, Sony Ericsson left the phones pretty much out of date. Xperia X8 never got dual touch even though it was possible (and it was done). Sony only updated the X10 to Gingerbread because of the outrage caused by the infamous "our Eclair is better than Froyo" tweet, and leaving those users without Froyo at all. Sony is atoning pretty nicely, but its previous record wasn't all that fancy. Keep in mind the iPhone 3GS, which is fairly in the range of a Xperia X8, and its update record.
Besides, the Xperia Play didn't exactly launch at 150 pounds. It launched at thrice that sum, and it was heavily discounted because of poor sales.

Yes but at least they have changed. At least they listen to the community and released gingerbread for the x10.
Dropping prices has got Sony written all over it, look at the PS3, launch was £425 and now you can get a 250GB slim one for £275, around 40% less.
Sony Ericsson have made the best phones for as long as I can remember. I don't know why anyone would buy a non-Sony Ericsson phone.
I came from a Motorola phone (never again will I make that mistake) and I absolutely love this phone. Its my first android phone where I truly feel that SE is doing all they can for their customers. I mean I was totally floored yesterday when I saw that Verzion allowed SE to release the source kernel. I mean HTC and Verizon are all cozy but even then HTC doesnt really allow for kernel sources. Maybe for other US carrers but not verizon. This is needless to say a huge reason why I am thrilled to have my phone. I can do with it as I please and SE is right there doing what they can to keep their customers happy and on the ball. I mean our single core phone is getting ICS, thats awesome. So I would also like to thank Sony Ericcson for their truly amazing work. I know last year they did not have a good track record but they are seriously trying and doing what they can to change their image and I wouild like to show my appreciation and gratitude for all they have done. Thank you Sony Ericcson.

I think I've said it elsewhere, but when I first got into Android I had 2 phones I was eyeying.. the Xperia X10 (great hardware but was limited to 1.6) or an Acer Liquid E (almost as good hardware, running 2.2) - went with the Acer. Since then SE's really stepped up their game, and I'd say this phone is second only to the Nexus line for upgrades. The Acer didn't even last a year.
Now, all I want is an Xperia Play with a non pitiful amount of built in storage and I'd be happy. Dual Core wouldn't hurt either
i forget what SE have done to us on on X10 series ....

SE initially releases heavily priced products and hardly supports dated phones in the past,so I hope now things change for the better in SE(Or should I say,Sony) so consumers like us keep our faith in Sony, especially with Xperia Play.Adding to that fact,I've always loved SE's ROMs which are very nice in my opinion.

Why praise Sony Ericsson the play station is a great idea but the aftersales warranty sucks
I have recently sent my play back for repair and it was refused and I have to pay for the return postage for my device which is not fair. Also I found my handset was scratched by them on the side by a knife inwhich I am upset about because it was in mint condition before that as it was zagg protected and the knife mark did even penetrate the zagg sheild I am p???ed
Yeah the phone is brilliant but consumers beware aftersales repair is the worst ever even apple replaces jail broken handsets!!! Old with new swap policy Sony does not.

ICS = Ice Cream Sandwich = Android 4.0
Kernel sources mean that sufficiently development oriented people (like DooMLoRD or kerianftw) can develop custom kernels to flash to the play to expand usability of the phone (overclocking, cwm built into kernels, etc.) (I'm also looking into building a custom kernel, but I'm having issues that I'm asking DooM for help with)
My $.02 on why this phone hasn't sold to well it's that it was marketed as a niche phone, rather that a phone first with ability to play games second... that and what look like lackluster specs (single core compared to dual core, even tho that really didn't make a difference, yet) put people off to this phone
