fix buttons

I was wondering if it is possible to replace/resolder/fix the buttons (ie green phone button - not the keyboard)?
Has anybody had to fix theirs yet? I don't think it is worth the money to have it fixed in a service center. I could almost buy a new one for the same $$$. Maybe a bricked hermes for replacement parts?
The buttons can still be pressed but you have to hit them pretty hard to get them to register...

Have you completed the repair yet? How did it go? All my front panel buttons (green,red, ok, Windows, soft keys, d-pad, video call, mail and IE) on my Dopod 838 Pro have stopped working, and I think I may have to open it up.

Went just fine. I followed the service manual - spent time checking and rechecking everything before I touched it. Don't use a leatherman to open the case - an old creditcard is way better and doesn't scratch the housing. Changed the housing while I was at it. I really like the black Orange-look!
on hindsight:
I was a bit surprised to see the amount of $$$ bricked phones go for at ebay though... Money-wise the gap between getting a new phone and selling the old one for parts and fixing it is not as big as I would have liked it to be.

Raplacement for I/O button on top

Once upon a time when I woke up with a bad mood, I threw my phone away to stop the alarm.. Since that moment my I/O button which is on top of the phone (the one you switch the LCD's blacklight on and off) is hard to push.
The 'clicking-system' is (I think) dented in, and from the surface it actually looks like that too. It still works though, but you have to press really hard.
I asked at the local phone shop what my invoice would look like if I have it repaired by them and I found out it would be better to do it myself.
The problem is that although all the parts which are available on internet, this button is really hard to get. I can;t even find it on eBay (maybe I just search the wrong way).
Does anyone know where to get this, and if it hard to solder it (if needed)?
I am located in The Netherlands, so I prefer something that SHIPS to NL.

Edit: Actually, I'm not convinced that the part you suggested is the one you need. I think you should hold off buying anything until someone can tell you for certain which is best.

Hi, Recently my Touch pro's motherboard gone dead.
Like yours HTC service center gave me estimate equal of new device so i listed parts to help others.
If your device is still facing the same problem please PM me with problem & picture, it will help us to decide which part you actually need.

[Q] Buttons don't work anymore

I've had my screen broken, so I ordered the display and placed it as described, it works, but I have a problem that my buttons below my screen won't work anymore. If I press them, nothing happens (so I means home, search, return and menu). Wat can be the problem? I checked the wires but they are all connected good.

I think that might be something you want to take up with technical helpdesk at HTC. I didnt even knew you could order those screens ... and is it really worth it?
as in price related , wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a new phone?
(about the buttons not working are you sure all wires and sensors are connected in the right place)?

Repair help?

I've searched far and wide to find a video or tutorial for my problem, but didn't find much.
My problem; my middle button (Windows key) has stopped working - it does work at times but you gotta hit her in the right spot. It does feel like there is some physical damage to the underlying components.
My question is, how would I go about solving this problem? My HTC is out of warranty as far as I know and I've found one person selling replacement keypads in the US (I live in the UK), but is the keypad the correct component to replace or should I be looking to replace whatever is underneath?

I would rather pay money to HTC and make them repair it than buying it my self and doing myself anywayz,. it looks like its a physical problem, the button must be replaced.

If you want to, you can change the button, it's most likely it would be it the one's broken.
I deduce that you might not be too "experienced" with electronics as you were looking for a video on how to change this part or even how to open you PDA (even if I could totally wrong as there are many persons who like to have all the available info before proceeding).
Anyway, even if I haven't opened my HD2 (yet), I don't think it would be a problem, just be sure to be very careful when you open it, prepare yourself with all the necessary tools (little screwdrivers, I think you'll need a torxs T5 screwdriver, platic pliers, etc.), clean and illuminate your working area and proceed slowly without forcing anything.
To work with most of today electronics you'll need a very fine pointed soldering iron (or heavy skills in soldering, but it's better to have both) or two would be better, a magnifying lens lamp, pb free solder (even if you can use sn-pb solder with pb free solder); but all this stuff will be necessary only if you want to change the push button itself. I just saw how to take the HD2 appart and it seems like an "average" PDA disassembling, the only detail regards the final chassis disassembling, they ask to use a oven to soften three adhesive stripes, this could also be done with a good hot air rework station.
At the end, you'll have to decide if you want to change the push button or to change the whole front buttons board.

I have taken apart some many Tmous HD's, thank could do it with my eyes closed. But it is tricky. I think I'll make a video, and then post it.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head - well, I am experienced, just not any good, being into building and maintenance by trade, I'm more used to smashing and brute forcing rather than using careful precision lol.
I actually forgot about this post - what would you guys say about the volume +/- buttons? They're sticky, would I need to replace those too? And what sort of estimated parts price would I be looking at for both the buttons and a screen? I want to make sure I'm not overpaying. The screen itself isn't smashed, but the the top layer. I know it sounds like I've abused my HD2 in a bad way, but it did this to itself on a night out - I don't know how lol.
I've seen the screen part going for around £20. I have no clue on the bottom buttons or the volume keys. Would I be better off getting a dead HD2 for parts? And are there different part versions as such or are they universal?

I know probably this is the wrong section but I thought I would get a quicker response to my dilema. I was testing out my rom on my Test HD2 phone (I have two of them) and this one has the infamous end key issue, and tested my patience, so I read that if you use a very small flathead screw driver and push a certain place, you can get it to unstick, being that I tried all my methods that usually worked, I decide to try, well, the screwdriver slipped under the button part between the end key and the back key and screwed up my screen where I have all funny colors all over. So I was wondering if any could tell me if this is a LCD problem or a digitizer problem. There is no running liquid on the screen. The screenshot below is exactly what my screen looks like, and I want to buy the replacement, but I dont want to buy the wrong part and waste money, so can someone please let me know what it is that I have to replace? Thanks!

Its definetly an LCD issue, anyways not a major issue, as long as you can dismantle the phone and clear up the area btw the LCD and Keypad, i guess it should be back to normal

When you say Clear up the area, mind clarifying what that means? I can dismantle the phone, at this point it would probably be cheaper then sending for repair especially that its most likely out of warranty anyway.
I'm pretty much under the impression I am going to need to buy a lcd/digitizer combo to fix this. Unless I dont have to, cause like I said there is no bleeding and the phone works fine (minus the touchscreen issue caused by the end key) I can navigate thru the phone using droid explorers Screencast.

well what i intened to say was that there could be particles of dust or debris that is causing the LCD ribbon to come out a little, Coz i had a similar issue with "Dead touchscreen workin hard press end key " , later when i dismantled the phone and put it back again my screen looked exactly like yours, all i had to do was open it again and fix the LCD flex to the Main board properly thats all.
on a side note:
Well the touchscreen issue eventualy died all together, and i now have a replaced LCD from HTC and the screen is dull
