Hello there my friend just purchased a Rogers branded xperia play how would i go about rooting it and unlocking the bootloader? i highly doubt its as simple as fastboot oem unlock but am confused at the current state of affairs.
Hello there friend, do you know if the phone is carrier unlocked or is it locked? if the phone is unlocked it will be so much easier to root. if your phone is locked you will need to ask Alejandrissimo or Blagus to unlock it (this will cost 17 euros there abouts, the software they use to unlock your phone requires SERVER CREDITS which they have to pay for... by doing this your phone will become fully unlocked which means you can then go onto the netstage of rooting the device), there is no way i can help unlock the phone but soon as that is done the rooting is very simple and straight forward. if you are unsure if the phone is unlocked/locked try putting another sim card into the phone (has to be different network)

Hey dude, thanks for the offer ive been googling for the past few days and am still unsure about where to start. Do you mind if I ask a few q's?
1. I have a carrier unlocked r800i, but not bootloader unlocked. Its on 2.3.3 and I want to root but prefer to keep BL locked, is it possible?
2. If root will I still be able to get OTA updates?
3. Apart from titanium backup what is some fun stuff to do after rooting?
Thanks in advance man ;-)

You can always reLock the Bootloader after you rooted there is also a method that works on all cept R8OOX to get R00T without Unlocking the BOOTloader
If Bootloader is Relocked, you will be able to get OTA updates, dont do it by PCCompanion.if bootloader is UNblocked then you will get a BRICKed phone, but can be recovered i think.
Alot of great AppS for RooT,DroidSheep is mean but total fun (See what people are doing connected to the same network ) app2SD PLUS , setcpu for OverClocking on DooMkernel,LCDensity and Adfree are ontop of my head.Wireless TEHTER and RooTExplorer are great, with RC being a MUST!
I personally feel the Xperia Play threads here at XDA is very fragmented.
This place would be a whole lot better if there was a global thread posted, that was specifically dedicated to all things rooting.
This would ideally include -
1) A conclusive guide how to root every type of model
2) Bloatware that is safe to remove
3) Completed ROMS / partially completed ROMS safe to install
4) How to overclock
5) Xperia Play specfic rooted mods that are best to install
6) How to update firmware / software once rooted, and how not to brick your phone
I am perfectly capabel of rooting myself, i did it at 2.3.2, but now i refrain from rooting because there is no global guide how to do it and keep 2.3.3.
Yes there are guides, but like i say, they are fragmented and are not noob friendly.
Make a noob friendly guide and there will be a lot more interest in these forums.
Remember........the more people who are rooted.........the more people who will potentially purchase rooted software written by developers.
It's in everybodys interest to stop all this fragmentation of information, and for some expert to write up a conclusive guide to the Xperia Play.
@Pandasouljah if you only want root check this thread out:

Regards Dousan...
E: this will update you to the newest firmware 4.0.A.2.368 - 2.3.3.
i have a newbie question..
I managed to root my xPlay but most of the people say to not update from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 from WIFI if you are unlocked.
What is the meaning of unlocked? It means bootloader?
Yes unlock most likely refers to bootloader. If it's referring to sim, people normally put the word sim in front
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.
If you want to do the update on your phone, lock the bootloader
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
Thanks for the advice guys! Im thinking its probably less hassle just to unlock the bootloader, seems that people have probs doing OTA updates with frozen and deleted stock apps, but i'll let u guys know how it goes anyway

Hi
I am a first time Android user, Picked up an Xperia Play on Monday gingerbread 2.3.3 , Build version 4.0.A.2.368 . Ive read through numerous threads here regarding Rooting and unlocking the boot loader, I'm falling at the first hurdle. For some reason when I try to put the handset into fastboot mode (holding search key while I plug in the usb cable) it just refuses to work. it just charges the handset and I get the green light on the power button rather than the blue one
Is this a know issue ?(haven't come across a solid explanation yet) and if it is , is there a fix?
I have tried another method of flashing the firmware using Windows 7 64bit and 32bit with the same results, system does not recognise the drivers.
So any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
If your bootloader isn't unlocked then ya you won't get a blue led it needs to be unlocked first

Groovy, Okay. Ill give that a go and see how it goes. Cheers.

Actually Ive just gone back to look at the unlocking bootloader guide, and this is where Im having the issue.
5. Extract fastboot.rar and open fastboot folder
6. Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
7. Select 'Open command window here'
8. Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold search button and plug in USB Cable)
Part 8 there...This is has to be done If I want to be able to unlock the bootloader....Am i missing something ?

This post is pretty much hitting the nail on the head.
Since there are so many different models of this phone and differences with regard to carriers it quickly gets confusing to find the right tutorial
Looks like my handset is network locked, I have requested the unlock code from my service provider, so Ill give it another go when I get it unlocked.
does anyone know if the US At&t version comes unlocked?
I am picking one up tomorrow and wouldn't mind getting a heads up on this
My unlocking the bootloader saga continues, I received the network unlocking code from my service provider this morning, now when I try to enter fastboot more I get an orange light instead of the green light I was getting before.
Any suggestions would be faboo

You're in the wrong forum. Unfortunate that XDA STILL hasn't given the Ray it's own form yet.. It deserves one.
Here's where the ray development stuff are (Except CM7):

That is more tricky and actually requires a but of extra skill you'll have to peel back stuff to get at the testpoint at the back of the phone etc etc... I personally didn't do it because I already had mine unlocked. You are welcome to try it.
Thread:

Let me know how you get on with it
PS: For those of us that have already unlocked our bootloaders, there's no point in performing this
wooohhhh, its again so complicated...will wait for some other quick method. Like we have something for our Xperia Arc

Do it and don't look back! I was never going to then did so just before 283 was released because I didn't want to go through the rigmarole of having to downgrade to upgrade just to root, and so glad I did because I might have ended up with the 0% battery issue, PLUS it makes things like rooting so much simpler, even simpler than an app imo.
What put me off was something screwing up with the boot loader, it's a natural fear, but with Alejandrissimo and Jinx13 on call (more or less A+J? ), a fix is only an internet (and required software) connection away.
Ray can't be gingerbreaked, as there is no 2.3.2 available for it.nso there shouldn't be security issues that can be used for rooting a s-on device.
Just go ahead and unlock it.
As stated above you won't look back.

Any way to ROOT Xperia RAY with locked bootloader
What about the ZergRush exploit? Doesn't that work for the ray?
The Xperia 2011 Easy Rooting Toolkit works and the Ray is in the compability list.
like what harfot said I'm pretty sure the zergrush method works for the whole 2011 xperia phones its easy to use aswell

please please please can a dev make overlcocking possiable on locked bootloaders

This is in the wrong forum but in all fairness this should be created to help people with locked bootloaders. Maybe Doomlord can create us a few modules now that he has the Xperia Play

Making overclock module is different to modifying acpu file for overclock.
The acpu mod is embedded into the kernel, and oc module is not.
acpu modifying is probably the easiest to do, but I am sure DooMLoRD will be able to create modules for you.

Don't really think its fair to SE to implement it for locked bootloaders.
Its somewhat fair I think the warranty being void if you overclock. (and Sony Ericsson spares are fairly easy to get so its not a great problem).

[DONE] Attempt to unlock X8 (11W32) [SUCESS!!!]

Hi everybody !
Today, I've decided to try to unlock my bootloader in 11W32, to prove it's possible to unlock bootloader up to 11W34. And this attemp is a sucess !
Now, if someone wants to try with a 11W34 X8... it will be cool x)
But try at your own risk (if you decide to try...)
it has been proven ages ago that it is possible. it is just too risky.

So what's the purpose of this thread? Congrats on unlocking your bl, but please do not create a new thread for that. And please do not encourage others to try if they have 11w29+. I know you didn't really encourage them but some may take it that way.
And it was never disputed that 11w29+ phones are impossible to unlock. It's just that the chances are too great that you'll end up with a brick.

I've made this thread to proove bl unlock is possible up to 11W34. Why ? Google it and you will see Why.
for such things there is a thread "Off-Topic" you should post in that...it is made to prevent such threads.

anyway...congrats...when's the party?
Congrats bro, as other mates said, think before post.
Good luck with your bl

Check in the service menu to see if it is unlockable *#*#7378423#*#* under software configuration I think it is, if it's a sim free network unlocked device(like from Sony store) it should be ok. If it's supplied locked to a network like EE, T-mobile, Verizon ect it's probably NOT unlockable the days of root on locked Bootloaders is over on new xperia device's if not all devices

It has been a few years since i've unlocked a bootloader on a xperia device so I'm a bit confused:
At the moment it's only possible to obtain root with an unlocked bootloader but unlocking my bootloader means the DRM keys are whiped. I cant do a TA-backup because i have no root yet. But the DRM-fix in this kernel will fix everything so I wont loose any functionallity? So TA backup isnt needed any more? and does unlocking the bootloader still has consequences?

Now if only we got this for the only bug-free version (34.0.A.2.292)...
I assume flashing 34.0.A.2.292 over rooted 34.0.A.1.277 will cause loos of root functionality, right?

I would assume so, but I can't get 34.0.A.1.277?*Customized US to boot with the kernel to try it. Strange that it works for me with other customizations, just not US. And I can't live with the reception loss on LTE if I flash anything other than US/Canada firmwares. Granted I'm new to the Xperia scene, but seems like kernel should work with 34.0.A.1.277?*across the board.
