[Q] help regarding madapp2sd - Galaxy 3 General

Hi !! im new to all this stuff. Recently i installed indroid 4 rom.. There was an app called madteam app2 sd to create partition. I wrote the swap script as 200 and app2sd script as 1000.. My question is what is the use of doing this?? i still get low memory when i install any app ?? i usually go to app settings and move the app to sd card.. but still the internal memory decreases..
what is the use of app2sd script which i filled as 1000 mb and what is the use of swap scipt and how to properly manage my internal memory...
please help..

internal memory space problem

hi guys
pls help me, for few days with no installing new apps my phone is warning me abut little internal space, i cant get sms etc. i uninstall some app any time i get notice about running out of space and there after time im getting the info again and again... what can be problem? i dont use the phone but my phone is loosing internal memory space
im running stock 2.1
thanks for your advice...
2 options are there -
option 1 - create an ext2 or ext3 partition of your SD card, root your phone then either install app2sd or link2sd [link2sd is easier to install & use, but both won't coexist / work] . then move apps to sd card[in link2sd you can select which apps should go to sd card, apps2sd move all of your apps to sd]
option 2 - install a custom rom, i.e, either froyo or gingerbread, there you get the option to move ur apps to sd card.

Low internal storage !!!

hi guys ,
i have a 16 gb sandisk class 4 sdhc card and currently i am using rom HYPERDROID GBX V12 by pongster .
before installing the rom through clockwork mod recovery , i partitioned the sd card with 1024 size and 0 swap size.
but my internal storage is only showing 257 Mb
and after installing a few apps, my internal storage has become low ,
is there any way to virtually increase the internal storage by utilising the SD card storage???
can this be done without formatting the phone or the ROM ,ie.,without losing data ??
HELP APPRECIATED.
THANK YOU.
Try rebooting and seeing if that helps if using an a2sd based rom

no it did not work that way...
You could partition your sd card, adding an ext2,3 or 4 partition and install DarkTremor's A2SD script. Then your apps will be installed into your ext partition on your card instead of in your phone's memory. And using the A2SD GUI app from the Android market, you can put your dalvik-cache to the partition, and do some other cool stuff. If you cant find DT's A2SD script by searching for it, I can attach the working version that I have to this post when I get home.
Edit: Attached a good working version. Flash it via CWM, after you allocate an ext4 partition (1 gb is a good size) on your sd card.

1. In CWM Recovery, under 'Advanced', theres an option to partition your sd card.
2. By partitioning your card, you are allocating an amount of space to be used as an ext2/3/4 partition. Doesn't really matter which you use, but ext4 is said to give the best performance. I'm pretty sure CWM creates an ext4.
3.By moving all your installed apps to the sd partition, you are freeing up internal storage in your phone. I have hundreds of apps installed, my phone has 650mb internal storage available, runs smooth as butter, and I still have half of my 1gb partition free.
Thanks i did the partition and installed an app called " modinstall" by mskip and now all my apps by default install in sd card
But why is my internall storage only 270 mb by default without any apps in it??

Do you have a EU HD2, or a TMOUS one? The European ones have far less ROM space. You could try a smaller system partition by modifying the flash.cfg file in the folder which you flash CWM from, just do a nandroid backup in CWM first, then restore it into your new smaller system partition after re-flashing CWM with the smaller system partition. I wouldn't go any smaller than 150 mb for a non-Sense ROM, if you go too small then your ROM won't boot up, or will have too little room to run comfortably. But too large a system partition will just waste internal storage space.
But if all your apps are getting installed to your partition by default, 200+ mb is more than enough internal storage for your phone to run nice and smooth. But that's also why I recommend DT's A2SD script, because not only does it move all your apps to the partition, but your dalvik-cache too (anywhere from 30-75 mb) and with the A2SD GUI app, it's easy to do more to make your phone run smooth, like enabling zipalign at bootup.
I have an EU hd2 now i hav installed the zip file of apps2sd u hav attatched in ur reply
I hav downloaded an application apps 2 sd from market to move phone apps to sd ut the only issue is that
Now after moving to sd , a few apps like angry birds, glow hockey and many other games or apps give an error and force closes but when these apps are moved back to phone they run smoothly !!
Why is that that these few apps are not running in sd card???

Though my apps are getting installed in sd card by default but many of the apps do not run unless they are moved to phone's memory !!!
Is there any solution???
I really prefer this method by which my apps are installing in sd card by default but how can i avoid the force close errors in some of the apps ??? Eg - angry birds
Thank you

[Q]help in apps2sd

i already do some TUT here in xda and faild to make it.
i rooted well my x8 with superoneclick
i tried unsing xrecovery 2 install apps2sd i think i made it to install but when im going to install an apps its says need to free some memory but my sd card has space. ext2 has a free space about 700mb. checked it through link2sd
i cant install games/apps that has 50mb+ installer
i also try the cmd method in installing the apps2sd but when i type sh /sdcard/apps2sd.sh its says cant open file.
but the file is in the root of sd card
please help tnx in advanced more power xda =)
I think it's a apps2sd issue .... i read somewhere that you need to have free phone storage 2 times the application size to install it ... on native app2sd on android 2.3 roms there is no problem with larger files because you can install directly to the SD fat32 partition
hmmm better to use android 2.3?
but i have 140mb space in my phone storage and im going to install an 53mb size of apps but still it says free up some memory >.<
what is the better solution for it?

Make a partition of SD card and link apps to SD
Just Google how to link to SD
U will get hundreds of results
Prefer xda ones
If u r a noob watch a video after reading the procedure ...
Hit thanks
If u still have doubts after doing all this post here ... we can help
use the almighty search tool!!!! search for terms like data partitioning etc. good luck

jonny789 I would love to know how you managed that if you are properly using Link2SD - just how many apps have you got installed?!
If you partition the SD using CWM recovery and choose 1024mb and 0mb at the two options (after backing up all data to the pc of course!) then reboot the phone when you open Link2SD it should ask you to confirm the type (EXT2/3/4 or FAT etc) - I pick EXT3 or 4 cos sometimes one won't work and I get an error so just use the other.
You will now have a second (hidden) partition and if you set your default save location to "External" all the apps you install will go to the main partition on the SD card. From there you can move them to internal storage (widgets, system apps like keyboards etc) or (preferably) link files to SD which will move a good chunk of the data to that hidden partition.
I have never come even close to using that 1gb of extra app storage and my internal memory is currently 61% free (73.04mb used, 117mb free). Of course lots of games and apps work just fine from the external storage anyway so you can just leave them there instead of linking them - really it is up to you.
The other way to use link2SD to free up internal memory is the system apps - you can uninstall a fair few of these to free up system memory which you can then use by converting non-system apps to system ones - this moves them from the "internal memory" to the "system memory" and hey presto you have more internal available. NOTE: Uninstalling system apps can bugger up your phone - search and read about it before you do this!
If you have already tried all of this then I apologise and humbly ask you to post a list of your installed apps so that we may all wonder at just how you managed to use all that internal memory lol
Cheers

Yes for linking apps to sd depending on kernel support & selecting the correct mount scripts in link2sd
No for swap - you need a swap partition but swap is pointless anyway - There is no need for it & in my opinion you will get no benefit

Thanks for replying,
By the the time I was waiting for some reply I tried out Roehsoft Ram Expander for swap.
Is there any other way for increasing internal memory only?

Only by creating virtual storage on your sd card & linking apps to it - you already have an ext partition
If you mean ram then no - nothing that will make the phone suddenly super fast

Yes Iv already said
If the ext partition was created properly & you using a kernel that supports it (don't ask me for suggestions) & you select the appropriate mount script in link2sd

I have set the default install location in link2sd to internal, confirmed using command
pm getInstallLocation
1(Internal)
But still certain apps get installed to the sdcard. If the apps get installed to the sdcard link2SD cannot auto link newly installed apps. In A2SD GUI it shows apps on internal. How do I force the apps to get installed on the internal storage?
Do I need to activate zipalign on boot in a2sdgui?

You can't force an app to install anywhere - only ask it to but if it's manifest states to install it somewhere that's where it will be installed
Of course you can decompile the apk & edit the manifest resign the apk & install it however you won't be able to update the app via playstore without uninstalling the modded version first
Best to just manually link what you want
Nazir mughal samsung gt-s6102
Did the same and working properly but swap is not activating and auto deactivating cant extend ram by the method please suggest.

Either remove the mod if possible maybe a script in init.d or flash stock rom via odin & start again (see my firmware thread)
Also your kernel might not support this mod
Please don't ask me what does as I don't have your device
link2sd wont work
second partition wont mount automatically.
link2sd wont work after rebooting many times
