So today i found out that my mini usb connector doesn't work anymore, i can't even connect to my PC or the charger, I'm legitimately screwed. I tried moving it about in it's place and it's kind of loose. I tore the phone down using mckebab's (spelling?) guide, and found out the soldering is ****ed. Damn Sony Ericsson, I wish their boot loader was as loose as their **** hardware. What can i do now? Besides getting a different phone? I can't flash back to stock rom but i guess it won't matter because i don't have a warranty.
there are companies in the uk that will repair that and resolder a new one on
not sure on the price but its a common problem with the x10

...Wich really means a serious problem. Having the usb connector busted means not charging, not transfering, not storaging...
... But the most worrying issue is the first one. Without charge, no battery, and no X10.
Is there anything we can do to prevent this? (aside from being extra careful when plugging the cable, of course)
Mine is starting to have the same problem. I'm pretty sure I have a one year warranty though.
same here, need to double check every night if its charging
Same here... .
Ring sony, you probably need a new mother board.
Is there any smartphone without hardware issue??? i mean:
HD2 Capacitive screen dead - Samsung I9000 SDCARD slot dead - X10i USB Charging + sync dead - HTC Desire HD Camera bad focus left side, Iphone 4 Death grip etc...
What's wrong with them???!!

if youare unable to flash back to sony FW to send it in for repair just go mad with root explorer and delete most of the system so it wont boot
You could even make up a nice story that youve been externally charging your phone for a while until you had time to send it in but now its totally nacked, they will probably replace the handset for a new one if they recieve it not booting and usb connection not working aswell

Ha ha.. nice solution, not being able as in don't hv my laptop with me has its display toasted . This is India we are talking about and they are a lot more reluctant to replace and more willing to repair.
I wonder if they will even repair mine as it has been bought from Greece.
I have the documents in Greek. Lol

Yup. How it happened? All I remember is that one moment it was working fine and the very next no charging, no LED glow. Tried moving the USB in its place and it worked at a certain position.
Precaution: treat you phone like your life's only love-intrest

For some reason, the phone won't charge at all through the wall charger, but if i connect it to the pc, and bend it, it works. But i have to keep it bent and pressed really hard. Also, i would take kloud_'s advice. So i'm going to try to flash it to stock rom while holding it in all the way through the process.
Edit: nope.

I only use the usb connector to charge the phone
to transfer files i do it over wifi with wifile explorer, its on the market.
My condolences
LMAO thanks.
Anyways, i got the phone back a few days ago, and it still doesn't work as it used to. Doesn't charge through wall charger at all, and if i connect it to PC, it takes a few seconds to connect and charges, but extremely slow, also, SD card doesn't get detected. If i charge it while the phone is on, the battery will still drain even though it should be charging. Hell, i can't even get into flash mode, the led turns green but it stays there and flashing fails. All this just when the x10 started getting interesting with 2.3 being announced and the boot loader being bypassed. FML.
I soldered my connector back on when mine broke. But not every one has access to micro tools.
Overheating of the phone to many times and not making sure your charger is firmly seated before letting it charge overnight can cause the solder to heat up and come loose.
Swyped from Scrambled 2.2
I can't help with your other problems but maybe the charging. Mine charges slow using usb as well. What i did was, i took an extra micro cable, exposed the wires, clipped the green and white, capped the white & green going to the computer, and joined the white & green going to the phone. With that, you can use any usb wall or car charger with the cable. Just can't use it for data transfer, its why you use a spare.
Alternatively, if you have a usb wall charger that's universal, open it and make sure one of the two middle pins on the usb connector aren't connected to an outside one (cheap ebay ones do this). If it is, then disconnect/desolder them. Then connect the two center ones. Looking at the four soldering points coming off the usb to the board, it should look something like this
| |---| |
This information can be found on the forums/internet for universal charges, i believe. Not sure if i read about anyone doing it to the cable though. Also, I can't see your previous posts at the moment (on my phone) but did you say you opened it? If so, have you reopened it since you got it to make sure they did a secure soldering job? If that wasn't you, then my mistake, but i would still check it. Good luck, hoped this helped you or someone.

well as I'm sure you all did.... the first thing I did when you got your N7 was to unlock and root it so you could load up all the games that you worked hard at on your phone... everything was great until it slipped off of my car seat when I got home and now it will not recognise the USB port while its powered on... my computer will not recognize the device at all to transfer data either... luckily I have already unlocked/ rooted and loaded team win recovery...
so here is my question... where can I look to see if something got broken when I dropped it... I took off the back cover and and everything looks ok...
my other question is will google replace it if I send it back saying that the cable does not charge while powered on... I can not relock/ return to stock without usb/adb connection
the length of turn around time that I hear about with the 16gb models I might wait it out to see if I can deal with it... I have a wifi web sharing app that I can use even though its very slow compared to a direct cable
If you can get back to the stock rom ...I'd sent it back if it's all possible. The Rma is quick and painless if your tablet was bought on Google Play.
- The turn around time for me on a 8gb and 16 gb tablets from Google play was just a few days. (Under a week from the time I called until the time I got my tablets in my hands. )
Well I let it charge off for the night and it is charged 100%... I guess I'll just rely on wifi connectivity for a while and see if I can manage before I try and return it

That really sucks man typically they won't replace a device that has been unlocked. Have you tried a factory reset yet? I I know it sounds unlikely but I have had accelerometers go to "sleep" from being dropped and or a faulty rom and a factory reset brought it back. Its really weird since you do get a charge when its off.. if it was broken hardware I would think you wouldn't get a charge at all. Make sure you do a nandroid backup before so you can get your apps back if it doesn't fix your problem.
Also about the RMA for the 16gb I believe now they are actually out of that model at the time. They may have a stash just for returns but if you decide to try a return I would make sure to find out what the estimated wait time would be.

Yea that's the weird part... But I did flash it back to stock ROM but nothing worked... If I could get USB to work I could flash it back to stock and lock it... Its a loose wire somewhere inside I'm thinking

My N7 16gb charged properly on the first charge. Now on the second charge, it will only charge while powered off. My device is stock and has not been dropped.
I plugged it in last night, while powered on, and woke up to find the battery in about the same state that it was in 8 hours earlier. That was with it plugged into a 2.5 amp HP Touchpad charger. I tried plugging it into a 1 amp charger and got no indication that it e was charging, until i turned it off. Then it put up the charging indicator. I will try using the N7 charger and see if that makes any difference.
It is possible, but very unlikely, that the device is doing a handshake with the charger when the device is powered on, and if it fails then refuses to charge. If that were happening i would expect to see a warning pop up on the device.
UPDATE: My device will charge properly off the asus charger that came with it. It totally sucks that the N7 appears to do a handshake with the charger. My advice to the OP is to make sure you only use the original charger.
Does ADB wireless work? Might not help you with fastboot, but you could push/pull files...
Yes all wireless connections work fine... But I guess I'm just going to have to live with this issue since it was my fault but at least I am already rooted with custom recovery so I might get lucky and have a kernel that might be able to fix it...
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Based on the post about the charger "handshake," maybe it's the charger that's gone bad, and not the device?

I dropped it cracked screen and can't unlock the screen, UK Repairs
Hi, hope someone can help :-0
I dropped my Nexus (oh dear!) and the screen's cracked. It powers OK, just I can't unlock as the touchscreen is not responding.
Asus UK can repair it, but can't quote me a price (because they've had so few repairs in yet)
Questions:
1. Anyone dealt with Asus UK repairs? Or any ideas of the costs of replacing a broken screen?
2. Can I reset the device by just using the on/off and volume keys as the touchscreen is dead
Thanks
As long as you have adb connection you can reset it to stock... I've got no USB connection so I cant... wugfresh toolkit has all the proper files to flash the stock image...
I've been doing OK with no USB... I charge it at night and I last me all day easily

Hi there, ive had my nexus for around 6 months now and it started acting up a few days ago to the point where it refuses to boot. When i got the nexus, it shipped with 4.2 and i updated to 4.2.2. I then used the toolkit by wugfresh to prepare for custom roms. It was working great on paranoid android, i updated as new versions came out. I was on the latest build (3.98) with M kernel, and a few days ago it started switching off without reason. It wouldn't boot unless i plugged a cable in, then on friday, i found my nexus stuck in a reboot but it wouldn't get past the PA boot logo. I booted into TWRP and tried wiping caches, no luck. I then tried a reinstall of PA and PA gapps. Still no boot. I have taken a backup, done system, data and caches wipe and reinstalled PA again and still no boot. The nexus was also refusing to switch on at some times, even though it had plenty of charge. Now i cannot get it to boot up. I still have access to TWRP.
Can anyone suggest actions to take? I thought my battery cable/connector might be loose, but i couldnt get the back off to look.
Thanks, donk165

Have you tried following the flashing a factory ROM/return to stock sticky at the top? It essentially wipes everything and makes it like the day it came out of the box.
EDIT: there are numerous videos and walkthroughs on YouTube and here on the forum, just do a search, on removing the back cover.
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.

What have you tried doing?
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.
I haven't done anything to it since my initial post. All I have tried to to charge it. and its not doing that, all I get is the screen backlight switching on, and thats it. No access to TWRP now, the bootloader screen isn't coming on when i hold both volume buttons and the on switch. The device isn't charging at all. I dont understand what's happened to it, it started as just not booting android anymore, So I've left it, and now its commited suicide and cant charge, or boot or even show the google logo / charging logo.
Most likely the USB/IO port is faulty or the ribbon cable is out after taking the cover off. Try taking the cover back off and inspecting the ribbon cable. There are videos and posts on how to fix/replace the port.
It's most likely not doing anything anymore because the battery is completely dead.

That's what it sounds like to me too... Can't say how many times I've taken my computers & phones apart to fix one thing, only to find out I knocked a ribbon out of place in the process... Had to go back in.
Luckily the nexus 7 is easier to get into
Right, I've opened it up and checked the battery cable and the ribbon cable near the battery connector, both are fully secured in. So I don't think that is the issue, how difficult is it to replace the USB? I would take it in for warranty repair but I've got paranoid android on there so if the techies get it working, its gonna boot showing paranoid android on the boot logo. So I feel like I've screwed myself a bit here.
It will not boot, No google logo , it doesn't seem to charge, no battery logo, and I don't think anything happens when I connect it to a PC. All I get is the backlight come on and sometimes white flickers on the screen for a few seconds when I plug a charger in.
Has anyone got any suggestions on what I can do, I don't know what the stance is on having custom firmware on the tablet and needing it repaired.
Edit: I have an "Anything Happens" cover plan on my N7 from PC World UK, but I don't know if they cover a device which has had its bootloader unlocked and still has custom firmware installed.
What is the Google warranty like on unlocked bootloader devices? Do they not cover it or would they accept it?
Sent from my LG-P768 using xda app-developers app
So in the end, Asus did a free warranty repair, and the problem was with the USB port.
The paperwork I got back didn't detail anything, it just listed USB port and Firmware problem as the repair work. I'm guessing they reconnected the port, and then fully stock flashed it then sent it back.
Hopefully this post will help someone out there

My S4 just randomly stopped charging without being dropped, nothing spilled on it, no dust, dirt, or anything inside the port, and the port isn't loose. I've tested this with multiple chargers including a brand new Samsung one, I tried a factory reset and nothing works. I am just stumped.

You could try a little electronics cleaner in port even though it looks clean. Or maybe hardware. Did you pull battery and reboot.

Do you happen to know how Samsung is with warranty repair? Last time I used a manufacturer's warranty it was Motorola and it was hell. The phone is unlocked and has no signs of damage at all. I just don't want to send the phone in and waste a couple of weeks for them to tell me they can't do anything.
I've had them repair phones before. It was pretty quick. About 2 weeks door to door. However, depending on the issue you may not get YOUR device back. It might be a replacement.
It will certainly be updated to the newest firmware also.

Do you try to reconnect the Charging port flex cable?
If you make sure your battery and charge cable are in good condition, you can try to replace a new charging port flex cable.
If it still dose not work, the charge ic in the motherboard may be broken.
So when I plugged in my phone last night and left it. An hour or two later I came back to it and it was hot (not unusual). Upon looking at the stock charger and micro USB port it was charred and melted. Phone will not charge, nor connect to a computer. I am running a week old version of liquid smooth march 14th (probably not important, but it will clearly indicate that I do not have a warranty to anyone at at&t). And I'm running the latest CWM touch recovery. I know people who also own galaxy s4s, so I can get a charged battery, but that can't be permanent. Anyone think there is a chance of flashing back to stock and possibly getting my warranty? Or should I just look into a new phone? Any recommendations? I haven't really kept up with this years phones.

You could flash stock and get warranty, but there's a good chance they'd send you back an updated phone. Your best bet is probably to get an external battery charger and have two on you, or try and get some other phone repair service. Otherwise, you send it in for warranty and get stuck in the same TW only boat with the lot of us.

You could get a new usb ribbon. Until then to charge, if you strip an old usb and connect it to the terminal on the back used for wireless charging it will charge your phone, kind of slow though

i hear mixed results on nfc. the samsung replacement battery cover is much thicker as it also includes an additional nfc antenna. theres a few aftermarket charging receivers that fit under the stock cover but i think the bigger ones cover the nfc antenna.
