Dinc, ruby final and new market - Droid Incredible General

Yes I know ruby is froyo aosp and kind of outdated but I cant walk away from it. You would think Im lying when I say I am running my max cpu at 245mhz and min at 128 on smartass invisiblek with zero lag and insane battery life but thats another story.
In any case Im trying to install the latest market and it fails no matter what I do. Adb push, direct placement via root explorer, and installing apk. So is it as simple as not being compatible with froyo 2.2.1 or is a build prop edit needed? I can run incdec gb aosp rom and it works fine, but I am not in desperate need of running the latest market.

Pretty sure it works with 2.2+, so it should be fine on Ruby. I downloaded from the link on droid-life and installed like a normal apk. Just tap it and use the package installer, don't put it in system/app.

yeah, tried it and no go. I think I'll just run aosp incdec for now. Need to make the transition to gb any way

stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Looking for some advice here. Been pretty much switching roms for a month straight trying to find the one that fits all my needs. Plus its fun to flash, its like getting a present everyday . well onto my frustration.
I have a mytouch 3g, so I come to the dream boards cause of the action that this forum gets for 32b's versus the magic forums.
The perfect rom for me would be Super D's latest. My only issue is I want to play 3d games, and nearly all the roms here have the ram hack.
I wonder if there would be enough people that wanted a no ram hack version of his rom, to donate to the cause.
I hope this post gets some attention here, I didnt want to clutter is rom thread for a non bug issue.
The ramhack is in the kernel. You can either build your own kernel without it, or switch out the kernel for one that better suits your needs.
is that hard to do? Can you point me in the direction of where to search for info on switching kernels. I was using king's 2.1 rom and he has a no ram hack kernel, but I soppose it wont work for a 1.6 rom.
sorry for my noobness, I have limited knowlege when it comes to this type of stuff.
Thanks for your reply.
It's all in the boot.img file. Open a rom zip file and you will see the boot.img, that is the kernel.
flash_image boot /sdcard/boot.img (or whatever location and name you give the file) is the command to use. Terminal or adb shell works too.
It would have probably been easier to ask in the rom thread because most developers customize the kernel so a generic might not work as well as the one already in the package.
k. so if I have got this straight.
I notice that the last wes garner 1.6 rom has a no ram hack version. i flashed it and played a 3d game. its works ok for me.
So i can open up his rom, take out his boot image, put it into a zip file, then flash it right after i flash a super d rom?

To an extent yes but as evilkorn mentioned pretty much all devs customize the kernel so it may not run as efficiently or unforeseen consequences may occur then again it could work all fine and dandy. Are 3d games really that unplayable with the ram hack? I play RoboDefense all the time with no probs.
robo playes fine, homerun battle 3d, "which is a awesome game btw" doesnt play on a rom with the 3d hack. I flashed wes garners last 1.6 without the ram hack and it played fine.
I might just stick with this rom for a bit i guess, I really like playing games on my phone.

{ROM}White Widow 4.0b3{ROM}(5-29)~DarchDroid Port~ Beta3 Rereleased!

CLOSED
I'm proud to present a CyanogenMod Rom on the Eris, White Widow, ported from DarchDroid by Darchstar.
Cant shut me down
This is only a beta, and therefore has a few issues to work out. the main one is the boot. As of beta 3, you have to flash it over either a nand backup of 3.1 or the actual flash of 3.1. I am not allowed to distribute 3.1 anymore, so for those of you who didnt get it earlier im sorry, do not flash as it will bootloop your phone. also to those who do have 3.1, DO NOT WIPE! Wiping will also cause a bootloop.
To fix the no service bug, download the attatched zip, and exctact the build.prop to your sdk/tools
run these command to pop it back into place
Code:
adb remount
adb push build.prop /system
then reboot
Beta 3 Rereleased!
Limited Time Release, 4.0 beta3
Stripped down, very limited release. Just wanted to give you a small taste of what I've been working on. This is far from being the final release, but I promised a sneak peek. So far it is functioning and stable.
WORKING FB INTEGRATION
GPS
You must install googleshits to use anything than the other basic functions. Save the file to your SD card, boot to recovery and flash the googleshits .zip file like you would flash anything else. it is an update script.
For those interested in DarchStars new kernel with BrainFuck Scheduler- First Ever Release On Eris! -download and flash the update zip included at the bottom. No wipe needed.
I encourage you to look through the settings for all the new options, things like integrated wired tethering, setting custom messages on your lock screen, and 360 degree rotation are all under there, theres too many new things to post though so take a look and see what you find.

really, you had to ask that. no this is for root only
when there is something for those on leak, you will be told about it. it will be plastered on the front page of this section with a million links from others like you asking.
and no, there is still no root for leakers.

is it worth rooting? and installing custom roms

i mean ive paid 600 dollars for this phone because i always wanted the latest updates from google. and now its kind of getting boring lol. i was just wondering is it worth rooting? what are the advantages. and is there "odin" to this phone like there was for vibrant. meaning is this unbrickable also? and what is the best rom out there for nexus s.
and also what if i have custom rom and can i go back to stock and still get google updates ota?
Root gives you access to custom kernels that can overclock and give you voodoo sound (awesome) but you must be aware it is not prefect yet...but I enjoy the niggles and when fixes are made by our clever devs the roms are cool...all a bit different and you will always get latest android anyway through these. It is up to you if you want a nexus that evolves and improves beyond what Google imagined....but you gotta put up with a few reboots, force closes and reflashings along the way. I personally am a bit obsessed....now where is that next super kernel!
Plus I should add that as I understand you would have to try hard to brick it. Always do a nandroid backup and your covered....back up your present stock rom and its always there to return to.

I ran MoDaCo for a bit with Netarchy's kernel and I must say, the battery life was better than no OC. If you don't want to run the overclock, you can install SetCPU and clock it down to 1GHz while adding the VooDoo sound drivers and the better battery life.
If I may throw my two cents in, I rooted my Nexus S but didn't really see a need personally to try roms or over-clocked kernels. Coming from the Captivate, I find this phone to be way superior in terms of speed and performance. So I don't see a need for myself to flash any roms or kernels at this time. That being said, there are advantages to rooting, if only to change or add apps that require root.. Case in point, I installed (after having to push it through adb) Keyboard Manager, which enables you to use different keyboards depending on the orientation of your phone. Only by having root access can you install apps like that. So i definitely see a purpose for rooting other than flashing roms/kernels. Luckily, it's relatively easy to return to stock if needed.
It's absolutely worth it to root. I can't stress it enough. Right now its slow, and may not seem worth it till cyan gets all the extras into his ROM, and more kernels and ROM's pop up. But once that happens, it is a must have to root.
I'm running Cm7 Build 24 with a Trinity 1.0 ghz Kernal. Great work! props to the devs.
Installing custom roms and being able to customize my phone is what I love about android. I used to be a Iphone user, owned every single model.
cm7 is a wonderful rom.
Yes.

As someone stated, it's in the App forum, just search Keyboard Manager. Fair warning, I had issues installing it so had to push it through adb, as I stated in my post. It worked wonderfully and was able to switch between keyboards no problem, great if you have several keyboards installed.
i m on 2.3.2 can i still root? i downloaded the android 2.3 sdk and trying to follow the guide but there is no usb drivers in that sdk. where do i get it from?

Yes this is normal its a safety precaution install rom manager and everytime you want to go to recovery without having to reflash in bootloader just go into rom manager and hit go to recovery or hold power button reboot then recovery and you will get to clockword

Follow my guide, the full one is available here (my blog) http://completeandroid.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/complete-guide-to-rooting-the-nexus-s/
or the XDA thread version (doesn't have pictures) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935819
Basically you have to run the SDK manager and install the USB drivers separately, and also install the PDAnet software for extra drivers (I found it helps when using connecting to the NS in fastboot mode).
Custom kernels are evolving...massive overclock or an undervolted battery saver are available. If you got the time and inclination you can try every combo of rom/kernel going....and always have your stock rom only a recovery away.

[ ROM / 3-9 ] Calkulin's G-Tab v1.1 [ 3991 l Battery Saver script w/ Profiles ]

It will set Max/Min CPU speed to 216MHz when a sleep
If SetCPU or Overclock Widget are detected, the script is ignored, so it will not affect them

1.0GHz - 89-51%
912MHz - 50-16%

Nice...going to give this a try later tonight...been waiting for your release Glad to see you've come over to the gTab...love all of your prior work and I'm sure I'll love your gTab work. Thanks!
Just a quick question...since this is based on 3991, it's probably not going to need the TNT enhancement pack since VS incorporated most XDA gTab fixes in that release, right? Just a curiosity thing...I wasn't planning on installing it at first, but maybe later down the road to test...thanks for everything you do
Download complete. I hope you enjoy the beer, I know I will be when I sit down with a cold one tonight and give your handywork a runthrough. Thanks.
Wow, this rom sure looks tweaked. Ill try it for a while and see the benchmark and other things. XD
If mac address spoof is abled, it might be my new best rom. Tnx for all the work.
D/L right now ... Will install when off work
Thanks Calkulin
incredible rom. Very fast and also good looking. 2250 of benchmark which is very good.
Thanks Calkulin! Downloading and trying it now.

I love your work on the EVO!

Will report back ASAP.
Thanks!
EDIT: Can't download, invalid file on Mediafire and same on Mega Upload???
Its a good rom, but titanium is not working with it, keeps fc.
There is a bug with the contacts also, it has some white lines under sme of them, if not most.

Well, aside from it powering down when I put it in sleep mode about an hour ago, very nice ROM...it's extremely responsive, snappy, and I love the boot animation, although it's kinda decieving, lol. You have a sort of honeycomb looking boot animation and even though I knew it wasn't honeycomb I started getting excited, lol. Great ROM yet again calkulin. Thanks

[Q] CM7 Nightly - Will these features be implemented?

I'm currently on CM7 Nightly #7 and was wondering if the following features would be implemented:
- Google Talk Video/Voice chat (stock MotoBlur GB update had this)
- 1% Battery Mod
- Overclocking
If none of those are set to be implemented, is it safe to install the above 3 using CWM like I normally would? Also, will Webtop work if I manually install it using CWM?
I'm assuming I can find the above 3 and Webtop lying around in forums?
Thanks.

Umm...Ok. Google Talk, whether it be video/voice/otherwise is not installed or included with CM7 and as far as I KNOW, never will be. They keep the CM project clean of anything that doesn't come stock with Android, and Google Apps (a package that can be downloaded seperately and installed) are OPTIONAL, I don't think they would ever push it down our throats. Second, 1% battery mod IS included, just dependent on the theme you have whether or not it's showing you the % or not. There is actually a setting to change the battery icon now under Settings---Cyanogenmod Settings--Interface---Status Bar or something to that affect. Third, overclocking/underclocking/undervolting is all kernel dependent. The kernel that is currently being rolled out with the nightlies and the stable release is not capable of this. It runs at stock voltages and stock frequencies. Faux123 has several kernels that will work with these versions of CM7 however.
^the reason why google apps arent included is because google sent cyanogen a cease and desist letter because the apps arent open source. it almost completely killed CM development.

Sorry I should've rephrased the Google Talk question; I guess I should've phrased it as will it ever come with the optional Google package that I installed via ROM Manager.
Anyway, thanks so much for your help! I found the battery option and I will get to installing the voice/video Google Chat and a new kernel soon.
