ok,,,, finaly out of my 18 month contract and can now get something new and shiny to replace my ageing N95
Was looking seriosly at the Touch HD....... but now the Hero has come along and i cant decide what to do ;0(
I know a little about windows mobile... but nothing about Android...
I just want a nice phone with a good screen... ( i belive the Hero is capacative which is better than resistive? or nicer to use at any rate.. )
But with the Android OS... can i still load in 3rd party apps and software like i can with my N95 symbian OS?? ,, i have things like Garmin XT route GPS program and things like that? can that all still be used on Android phones? or are they more like the iphone and can only take specificaly written stuff for that OS?
If you were buying your first Touchscreen atm... what would you choose out of the hero or Touch HD?? or is there somethign else i should maybe be considering?
Many thanks

looks nice. The multitouch is what our HD lacks. =(
The phone is purely AMAZING. If I didn't have to sell a kidney to get it, this would most certainly be my next phone.
capactitive screen , im gona sell my current HD and buy leo
how much do you guys think it should be sold for ?
MOD EDIT
Moved to general discussion as nothing to do with rom development
I'm anxious to know what you all think about the HTC Leo and the Nokia N900. Which of these two devices is a suitable repacement for our beloved Touch HD??

not really an objective answer. I love HTC too, but the N900 isn't that bad. Why do you hate Nokia?

I hate Nokia because of Symbian OS.

N900 is not Symbian but Maemo (Linux)
i am actualy considering the N900 , i love HTC as a company ,
but i am very dissapointed from the HTC speed .
and because of that , the Leo is a device with strong processor , and a very bad OS.
if he had the N900 OS , or android , that was nice .
anyway , N900 for me !
and someone should tell HTC to stop sell a good device with bad OS !
Leo looks as though it could be a great device, but Windows Mobile 6.5 is just really starting to show its age and bulkiness(slow even on a Snapdragon). HTC also gimped it by giving it a 65k screen - what's the point of having such a large screen if everything looks like crap on it?
I love my Touch HD, but compared to my friend's 3GS it doesn't have many strong points(and compared to the n900 it loses on all accounts). I'd still wait for more announcement concerning the Xperia X3 before making my final choice.
N900 is interesting but the "Landscape Only" is ugly... Linux OS makes it like PC and this is good but CPU/RAM/Battery moving it?
I have Touch HD and I don't think to buy Leo because no real improvements but not N900 too
I'm waiting for something in future
D'rath
I'm with you D'rath on this one as Archos just announced their 4.3 Inch Phone Tablet outfitted with a 1Ghz Hummingbird and android. February 2010 is going to be an interesting month for sure!
I'l be waiting for Tegra/WinMo 7 before i change my HD
when i saw the leo video review i decided to keep my hd leo camera still sucks only improvement is the processor but in the review it is not also so fast don't differ allot the only issue with hd is that it will not get wm6.5 officially when talking about memo5 in nokia n900 it has not allot of applications and not good support for games and applications

Has it actually been announced or is it just more rumours?
If it's the former, do you have a link?

It was probably gimped because WM 6.5 only supports 65k colors... still.
The appeal of getting a enormous screen and a much faster processor in Leo is tempting. N900 is interesting, but being a completely new OS think it's best to wait and see. The X3 / SE Rachel also looks tasty, but again too few details to make it a sure-buy.
If nuerom can get overclocking working stablely on the MSM 720x devices I think I'll stay on HD for until end of next year at least
I got for the Leo, I will buy it when it hit the streets.
N900 is bulky compared to leo (because the hardward qwerty keyboard), Leo seems to be faster and more polished in the picture viewer and video playback. Not to mention the multitouch of Leo, wich can become a standard for WM7 and future high end devices.
So for leo:
+Multitouch
+4.3" screen
+I like touchflo
+I love TouchFlo3d
-Dont like WM 6.5 (perhaps with some tweking start menu can be set to work like 6.1,need to read further about this)
...and for Nokia:
+hardware qwerty
-Not symbian (how many aplicacions exist for that varely unused "new" os?)
-Not like the interface
I don't think I would spend that much money on a Htc Leo, and only get a litle faster, a bigger screen and multi touch. I would rather keep my HD, which can do almost anything that Leo can.
If i buy a new phone it has to be much better than the HD, the HD can do almost anything (with a leo rom, its even much better)
The N900 looks like a nice phone. A qwerty keyboard is nice, and I like on the first sight the new Linux os. But I will wait for a while till I get a new device.
n900 for me - I've had guts-full of winmo, and android just doesnt do it for me (dont really like the interface or the architecture tbh).
And btw to the people who say they 'love' these companies because of x, y or z - get real lol. the only time I can imagine someone loving a company is if they either work for that company and they are being paid to say it or they have developed some twisted form of Stockholm syndrome around their employer... if you don't fit into either of these categories, you are a fanboi idiot both are capitalist scumbag companies nearly as bad as apple they cant help it, its just how the world works.
as for the actual devices the n900 interests me greatly, being the smallest posix compliant device ever (afaik?). to 'tarded joe public that probably doesnt mean anything, but to a coder/geek its fantastic!
andriod imo is hacky and not very mmmm.. viable(?) for a range of application areas (e.g. video players?) - is it true that all the apps for android have to be written in java? for real? why?
to me, the n900 looks to be suffering from early run hw problems - these im told should be fixed in the 2nd and 3rd runs. as for the software, anything that is currently not working im very sure will be working very soon - simply due to the community around the device and the openness of the platform - this alone sets the n900 apart from everything else - including android (which although linux based, is very different) - a great example of this fact is the fmradio app (http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/fmradio/).
if i've offended you with my opinion in this post, you may consider yourself offended - i don't care!
so, come January, ill be picking up an n900 its the only path of progression for me. btw, if im wrong on anything here please correct me.

I know people complain about HTC all the time (myself included) but they do produce nice phones. My main concern is that they create new phones all the time with no real improvement between them. I think you'll find the next release (or 2-3 after) will be the device worth moving to from the HD.
Also, I'm addicted like many other to flashing (phones ), customizing and tweaking my HD as well as finding new fixes, helping others and constantly being online at XDA. If I was to get the N900 I would lose all this.....................
i'm moving at the moment from the touch pro 2 to n900. why? because as someone posted above im sick of sloweliness of my device (altough latest AthineOS was excellent )
im also a flashing n customizing addict, and on every single device from htc ive had, after installing mod's the OS was simply slowing down.. even changing the wallpaper was a pain in the a**(especially in Manila- u know what i mean ).
im not saying that htc is crap or something, but n900 seems to better fit my needs now.
Getting it in couple days n we'll se was it worth going back to nokia ( god save me from that filthy n sh*tty Symbian) or not.
Surely i'll be missing htc in some way
Hello
I hope someone can suggest me which other HTC model do have almost the same specification as HD2 aspecially the screen resulation. Why do i need this? This is due to Im trying to download latest Pocket Islam 9.0 I need to choose my model but too bad there is no HD2 model there. Hope other model which is almost same can been used and function well.
Thanks for you time.
Moved to General Thread.
Mark.
man there arent any phone with HD2's specs out there the closest one is the nexus one or desire i guess.but any way any device with a WVGA resolution (480*800) should be fine.
Nexus One is the best alternative if you dont want to have WinMob.
I was torn between both devices and my decision fell on the HD2 as i like the customization in WinMo.
Anybody that says Android or Apple OS got the most apps is wrong. There are sooo many apps for WinMob devices - they just dont look that good in most cases because the programmers have to take care that a bright range of devices is supported.
But there are also apps for WinMob that shows nice gfx like SPB Quads.
I still will have an eye on the Nexus One as i like the voice command thing.
If u want to have more colors than 65k you should have a look at the motorola milestone. That device got 16 million (!!!) coors and the screen looks very impressing to me.
My advice to you is to check these threee phones and take the one that suits your needs best.
So T-Mobile is said to be having a WP7 event in NYC.. that they would probably be unveiling some WP7 devices maybe.. I Personally Hope its the HD3-7 whatever.
I had a thought that besides keeping the production cost down with the HD7 by using pretty much identical Specs to the HD2.. So who is to say they did this on purpose besides being cheap... With it using the Same specs as the HD2 it will be easy to pass WP7 onto the HD2 and vise versa with the HD7... I mean Android and for the heck of it WM6 on the HD7???
HTC is watching this Forum closely... I think that be cool giving us loyal HD2 owners a taste of WP7 and as well as Future HD7 owners android and WM6
October 11th!
**This is just a random thought at night**
Dont bash me with dumb SH*T
Dude have you seen WM7? If so WTF would anyone want that on their screen? What are we 5years old lil kids or something? Ill stick with my HD2 and next upgrade ill get is when we have dual core mcpu on cell device, till than ill stick with a true Smartphone that someone like me knows how to use
PS: Just crashed my HD2 again that needed hard reset after attempting to reapply my RegEdit tweak from base 23XXX now we are back on 21XXX are we lets see.
it is sort of like the HD2 but not quite
1. Less storage capacity a fixed 8GB vs a max of 32GB for HD2
2. Most likely the same radio hardware with unofficial support for wireless N (don't know if you can regedit hack it to work though)
3. slightly better camera with 720p recording
4. 3 hw buttons vs 5 on the front
5. Uknown if device will have FM radio but if they sell it in Asia, it will most likely have one.
With the major disadvantages of Windows 7 being made appearant, it's not looking like a device I am interested in getting
5. No tethering support provided by the OS unknown if HTC or T-Mobile will enable it (they will have to create the interface)
6. No preemtive multitasking allowed
Sure WP7 is missing features but i rather have the right to talk **** on it after I have used it in a daily bases... Unlike prob most people that talk **** on it now but after it gets up an running and people start seeing the advantages they jump in like if they where with it since the start just like Android and iOS.....
I cant wait for the HD10x2 with Quad Core Processor and a beautiful 60inch 3D FULL HD Screen with full on body touch capacity.. Said to be released in 2012...
since i need that Quad Core for my mobile Video Editing and 3D Playback and such...Oh cant forget the 1080p 3D Videos Ill be recording on my way to the office
