3g speed hack - Galaxy S II General

Has anyone else tried the 3g speed hack where you edit the build.prop file on there sgs2 yet?
I ask because I want to hear anyone else's experience and if it worked for them or not.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Did it work for you?

I think so lol I'm on the three network and I most of the time I get 0.4mbps but after hacking the file and resetting my phone 3 times I get about 6mbps. I just don't know if its the hack or I'm just getting lucky lol that's why I'm asking for experience from other people to see if this really works or not as this hack was first made for the Sony x10 mini pro bit it does say it might work for other phones
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Depends on provider and location. I, for example, in switzerland with Orange got only minor improvements.

Well I'm in the uk on three and I have a phone contract with them and a mobile internet contract with them. They use two different system for there mobile and dongle networks and before the hack my mobile internet was way slower then my dongle internet. After the hack I'm getting the same speed from my mobile as I would from my dongle
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Link to the hack?
I wanna try
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

We don't need this hack because our phone uses 4g
I am, I am on the run!

i'm also on three, would love to know how to do that hack?
I am right next to a H+ mast and the speeds in the evening are dire! when i am tethered.

Well I need this hack and I'm sure other people do. I'm on a 4g network and never get 4g speeds and this hack helps me to get 4g speed. If you think we don't need this hack then don't do it.
As for the hack it's been posted here in the x10 bit of this forum so as soon as I find it again I will post a link here. If you can't wait then search for it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Sorry for the double post but forgot to say your sgs2 needs to be rooted. I won't say how to root your phone as it all depends on what firmware your on and I'm not getting into that lol
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

I m on Three UK as well and would really appreciate if someone could share with us his hacked prop file

Right here is the page i took the info from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951765
I did it all manually and did not use the program it said to use as i did not want to risk it.
I can`t share the build.prop file because as i understand it the file is differant for everyone (you will know this if you look at whats written in the file)
Hope this helps as much as it helped me get the maxamum speed that my network can give me.
Oh and one last thing, don`t blame me if it don`t work for you or you messed your phone up. you should not be messing with your phone if you don`t know what your doing in the first place lol At least make a copy f the file before you change anything

what settings did you use?
the ones from the link you provided (thanks btw) are for a slower phone and ours is alot better.
thanks

Yeah I had had to change a few things but there should be a guide there to explain everything. Basically we own a class 12 phone so you change the 10 to a 12 and so on. Look your phone up on GSMarena and it will help with with what numbers to change
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Again sorry for the double post. If your on a 2g network the number should be 0, if your on a 3g network then the number should be 1 and if your on a 4g network the number should be 2. You should know what I'm going on about if you read the guide that's in that link
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

we don't have 4G here yet?
at least only in a testing phase later this year in cornwall from what i have read

Well I must be getting 3g+ then lol I called this tread 3g as not all of us are on 4g yet but this hack will work in on 4g and 3g network
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

i'm getting 3g+ too tho on my phone it shows as H+
I think 4G is only in the USA, japan and south korea tho i could be wrong, were normally behind everyone when it comes to faster speeds.
still getting slow speeds here tho when i tried the hack. gonna try some more values now tho.

No you are completely right about the 4g thing, just read it myself. Remember you might have to turn off and turn on your phone 3 times for it to happen. Strange I know but that what the guide said and that is what I had to do and it worked for me.
I also get the H as well and I'm getting 6mbps so who knows lol
For anyone on the three network in the uk I will post what I had to add to the file so you know what to put. Everyone else can look at it and change it to cater for your network
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

Right this is what I added to the file:
ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.enable.dtm=0
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=12
ro.ril.enable.a53=0
ro.ril.hsupa.category=6
Remember im on the three network so if anyone else is all you have to do is add the above to the file, everyone else has to chage the vales in the second line and the last line above

Slow 3g speeds, something is wrong, tried everything!

Hi everyone, I am in a bit of a quagmire. I have an evo, on boost which was working very well. For some reason, i started to get connection errors, and for a while I struggled with error 67 and 104's. Got past that. Problem is that my 3g speed and connectivity suck, and by that I mean 900+ pings and .11-.13 in speedtest, not to mention the disconnecting. Sounds like a PRL issue right? Updated that yesterday (manually through cdma workshop obviously since im on boost) and still nothing, same speeds. Is this a settings issue? Is there something I am doing wrong? I am on a stock sense with root.
I am seriously considering selling the phone at this point. My iphone never gave me this kind of grief on simple.

Well then that's probably his problem, as the Evo is not meant to run on boost. Hacking it to run on another network is bound to give you problems.
First of all it was working fine until recently. That 50 page thread was basically edit the host file to 0000 which did nothing. Anyone wsnna contribute and not send me on a wild goose chase? Cake will b given

No answers, but I'm having the same problem on the Sprint 3g network. Also getting 1000+ ms pings and download speeds have been less than 100 kbps since Friday. 4g seems to be working fine (when I can connect). Don't know if it is a coincidence, but change occured after PRL 01115 update.

You don't need to keep bumping your thread. If you read the post I gave, you would know this is a nationwide issue with sprint. Their towers are overloaded. I haven't gotten above 100kbps on sprint since November.

And if you read what I said,i was fine until one week ago, and something changed. If sprint had this issue w every customer 24/7 they would be out if business. Again, reading the post helps. STOP digging in your heels. This is a software issue for most ppl, hence why I am here looking for an answer

And again, if you read the data speeds thread, you would see that this EXACT thing happens to many people. Some people will have normal data speeds for a few days, then dial-up speeds for a few days.
I'd say try updating your data profile if you were on sprint...but boost...no idea
I have updated my profile many times with no change. I agree that it may be something software (or EVO) related because I did simultaneous side-by-side speed tests on my son's Hero and my EVO, both on 3g with the same signal strength. The Hero was getting dowloand speeds 3-4 times faster than my EVO. I repeated many times with similar results.

Flashing to Verizon..

Is it possible to flash the sprint nexus 4g to Verizon? If so, how?
Thanks
The short and simple answer is no. If you want the long detailed version look around xda as this gets asked a lot in other cdma phone sections...
Sent on the go from my android device using Tapatalk
Oh ok thanks. I figured it could be possible since the verizon iPhone was able to flash to sprint. I guess the nexus is different or something.
i would imagine using tools there available online you could in theory get it going on verizon and maybe even get 3g but 4g wouldnt work for sure

I have a verizon prl flashed. It allows my nexus to roam on the verizon network at all times. It increased my dl speeds from 300k to 2mb per second.
You still need sprint service though.

Nope..it's highly possible ..check YouTube and eBay. People even got step by step and so on. So I know it's possible.
I was hoping to do the same thing. Technically it seems like the Sprint ones should be possible.
I poked around the forums trying to find a general answer why this wasn't possible but didn't find any real concrete answer. Can anyone explain why it's not possible or point me to a post that does?
Thanks
Possible, yes. Legal? Not so much.

The fact that its illegal is why your not going to find a how-to on xda.

I dont think you understand what the OP is trying to do. He doesn't want to roam on Verizon, he wants to get a Verizon plan and activate his phone on Verizon. That requires falsifying your IMEI and no you cant do that with an app from the market.

super fix for 3g and 4g data Verizon fast

if u have slowwww 3g and 4g speed,just call sprint and have them reset your data on our plan. I try everything I can get my hand on and nothing would work. before I would get 200 to 500 kb and after 1.2 to 2.0 MB. let me know if it worked for u...

what do you mean by "have them reset your data"?
tell them that u are having problem with data that ur phone drops calls and u don't get txt, the update profile on ur phone does nothing but update the phone,when u flash difference roms to ur phone, ur data gets wak. so just tell them to reset ur data
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
yea i just tried that, three different reps had no idea what "reset your data" meant. Ive been through every single fix they can do, I've never once heard of "resetting your data"...
when u call *2 the operator ask you if you have data problems. press 4 with problem can't receive or send txt, that that take u to data support and just tell them that u can't receive text or send txt. then they will ask u, to take our battery out. I thought they were throwing me, but they don't do that... trust me it works here's another picture of my test. results don't lie
It will slow down again an again. It's no different then rebooting a PC.
A fresh boot will be faster the bog down later on. You can always turn off your mobile network on your phone and wait ten minutes then turn it back on and you will get the same results.
Plus there is always ##3282# if you have your phones MSL code and you can do what they did.
I have read 1000 of thing to do to get fast speed even use the Verizon prl 0001, but all that got me was a bill 250 buck and my bill is normally 72.18 month every month...I test it with my girl friends evo 4g in the same place and her phone we always 10x faster then mine "hers is not rooted" until I got this done. here is a picture of before and after

Thanks OP but this is not really a fix but a mere band aid. That has been done for quite some time now going back to my windows mobile days. As another member has mentioned it might be good for a while but it will go back. Hopefully for you it does not and you get lucky and have great speeds. Personally my data has been refreshed at least a half dozen times.... Thanks for your input and good luck.
Also like previously mentioned you can try the ##3282# method its the same effect...
I hope, but like I stated before. that wouldnt work. I have try everything "##3282# and hit restore and commit and reboot. my girl friends evo is not rooted and she would get 10x faster 3g then my rooted evo 4g. everytime i use a different rom my 3g gets really slow.

Hey if it works for you then go ahead and enjoy but I have been in Sprint store and ran speed test alongside my Evo and no difference sometimes mine higher sometimes theres is higher. Hey if it agrees with your Evo then go for it. Just saying its not exactly a fix across the board... Also Verizon as much as I dont like them I dont think we will get that speed unless you live under a tower...IMO
you might be right! but I was like everyone else only getting 200 450 kbs and now! I live in san bernidino CA, and now!

Evo 4G On Straight Talk

I have successfully flashed the Evo 4G to Straight Talk.
The only issue I ran into was MMS. I had to use a different program to be able to use the MMS on the evo.
I have internet working on it at 3G speeds. I it way faster then Sprint or Boosts internet.
The network is super smooth.
If you are wondering how to flash the Evo over to Straight Talk please let me know.
###########################
Use APN Backup & Restore to backup, erase, then put these apns in the folder, and then restore them. Reboot and your MMS will work. Tested on HTC Androids Only.
Let me if you tested them on another phone.
Yes please post instructions

what do you mean by flashed, are you spoofing the ESN of your evo to that of a Straight-talk supported phone? and that is not working?
I was not aware that straight talk supports CDMA phones...
You will need a donor phone from straight talk first. Buy a Samsung or LG cdma from straight talk first. Then let me know once you have that.
You will need to activate it.
Then you will need to copy NV Items 464-465 and 1192-1194
Copy the PRL
Copy the NAM and evdo settings

Unfortantaly no =( but on the up side a few people are working on it in this thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1512298
Some places T-Mobile does support 3G on the 1900 band but right now only a few citys have it up and running. Phoenix is not one of them

Tmo modem? On twitter? There is none. Dorks are passing off the att one. Do not flash it. It'll mess up your note. In chicago i get mixed 4g and 3g. In the boonies get edge.
When note comes out on tmo, someone will probably extract the radio file and post. Hopefully hardware specs will be the same

The T-Mo note will just be a rebadge AT&T model and will not help us here with the n7000.
The Japanese sc-02c on the other hand has a much better chance of success.
