Hey guys,
I'm trying to debrand my Rogers x10 using this tutorial http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/04/14/debrand-your-xperia-x10-tutorial/ but have been very unsuccessful.
Can someone tell me if this tutorial is still the way to go or if there is a new way?
Thanks..

Yes, that is not valid anymore. Follow this guide.
if i understand that correctly, since there isnt a guide, I download the flash tool, then download x10a Generic version 2.1update1 build 2.1.A.0.435 (MD5 : 0C67A08A4B120EBA87E395865F431E81), and then use flashtool to flash that onto my phone.. something like that?

Repair using SEUS and try again. Also, you need to run SEUS or PCC at least once to install the drivers for proper flashing.
OK, so i've successfully flashed into a generic firmware, then used SEUS to install the latest 2.1 release with dual touch... then used titanium backup to restore everything I had, and it seems to work just as it did, with the addition of being unbranded.
cant wait for GB now.

Ok so, ive been trying to debrand my phone for a few weeks now and all attempts have failed...
But i just got it!!!
I was on 020 but now on global generic 026 fw
All i did was download the flashtool with the 026 fw and flashed my phone...

Everyone here suggest to rest of us to debrand, but luckily you did it without anyone telling you.
Anyways, I hope this update works on one of this generic one and I wish that I knew which one.

Thats how I did mine, I didn't ask anybody, was fairly obvious to me that it would be the easiest way to do it.
Could you state which flash tool you used and which firmware file please?
I was trying to debrand a few weeks ago and just couldn't get it with the swap file technique thats all over the place so I gave up.
I used the xploid long root method, it includes a generic firmware.
I used this here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
I used the (for flashtool) Generic_R2BA026
Make sure you use the right file for your phone, X10i or X10a
Follow this as well for the device ID:
Code:
Hi,
Loader.sin must be there. All other sin files are optional.
1.) Open regedit and search the String :
"USB\Vid_0fce&Pid_adde\"
You will find the "DeviceInstance" should look like this :
"USB\Vid_0fce&Pid_adde\1&23cfa456&7&8"
copy the last part "1&23cfa456&7&8" into the DeviceID.txt file. Don't paste any free lines/blocks before or after!
2.) Start X10flash.bat
3.) Connect X10 in flash Mode:
a) Power down
b) Hold "back" Key
c) conncet USB cradle on PC
If the LED is green everythin is good!
4.) Press ENTER :)
Thanks heaps.
I'm at work at the moment, but I'll give it a go tomorrow.
my scenario is different, i never thought of debranding it but after i installed lcd density changer on my 020, i got yellow exclamation mark and i used the flashtool and viola lol.
I opened this thread collecting all the necessary information found on XDA
to make the search for the best tools to use, without having to search many threads, post etc.etc.,
I myself had many problems with my Arc after trying the root of my device ..... I'm crazy for two days to read and find solutions ..I'm newbie on Android
of course I also thank the help of many people who sent me this ...
all you will find in this thread, it is not my material, but as mentioned, are guides found on xda
That said, if you have problems of stuck your Arc after making changes as root etc.etc. here's what you should do:
(Original guide for use Flashtool)
1. Download FlashTool Beta Version 0.2.9.1 here: Original Thread
2. Download ROM for your Arc(File .TFT):make sure you have the correct ROM for your model
3. Open the folder you extracted FlashTool to and place the ROM in the "firmware" folder.
4. Open "X10FlashTool.exe" and click the FLASH button.
5. The Arc firmware you put in the "firmware" folder should show up and be selected. Click OK.
6. Now just follow the on screen instructions and it will do the rest for you.
That's all
N.B:
List ROM .TFT:
LT15i_3.0.A.2.181_Global_Customized.tft
LT15i_3.0.A.2.184_Generic_UK.ftf
for other ROM, we will try to update the thread
I hope this thread will be useful ...
If the moderators feel are unnecessary, they can delete it without problems
Any chance of anyone posting standard software here so we have something to back to if needed? I'm still looking for the standard UK Orange branded software.
Cheers

may be because you didn't extract it. file must be .ftf .....not zip or other!

You might not have use the flash mode of the arc, turn off your phone then unplug from usb, then hold the back button then plug the usb device.

Hi! I just got my xplay a month or two ago, and my last phone was a iphone. As such, stepping from the relatively easier to handle ios to android system's not exactly a piece of cake...
And I still have a couple questions despite lurking in this forums for a while...
1) im running 2.3.2 , rooted with gingerbreak. I heard there's an improvement in battery life.. so im quite tempted to update, but the thought of bloatware coming back kind of scares me.. ._.
So should I update?
2) is unlocked or locked bootloader better?
3) finally, will there be a final or complete version of cm7?
Also, would be great if anyone could explain what is an OTA and kernel...
Thanks!
1) its up to you, it is possible to upgrade with root as long as you have any model except a r800 x
2) I dont think either is better just depends on what you want to do to your phone
3) It depends what you mean by complete. There will probably be a stable version that is better than the stock rom eventually, but im not a dev
Ota means "over the air" and a kernel if im not mistaken is the part of the phone responsible for managing sysyem resources and the like. Not that I know much about anything and I could be wrong lol

This will be my second numbered answer today. Anyway:
1) What model do you have? I assume it's an r800i or r800a. If it is, I would head over to the development section and check out how to get the UK generic firmware on your phone without unlocking the boot loader. I did that, rooted it, then updated to 2.3.3 and removed a lot of bloat and it's good to go now.
2) I have unlocked the boot loader on every Android I've owned, but I haven't on this phone. I wouldn't until development takes off a little bit more. It will soon, but I probably won't even do it then, personally.
3) Yes, we have great people working on it. It's progressing majorly with each update.
Just next time search before posting...nah, I'm just kidding. Welcome to Android.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
OTA means you are updating the firmware on your phone through your phone over wifi.
If you didn't remove the boats you can still do it by pressing the software update button on your phone. Just make sure that your bootloader is is still LOCKED.

Thanks guys! I'll try to flash the firmware on my phone after I get home from school. my xplay is a r800i. Also, if I use the UK firmware and update to 2.3.3, will it affect my ability to update to 2.3.4 as I live in Singapore?
No, when 2.3.4 comes out it would probably be available to generic uk before any other versions. As long as you freeze and not remove boats, you would be able to ota update to 2.3.4

Oh my god.. I didnt enable debugging and the process stopped halfway.. now the phone displays an exclaimation mark next to a phone.. did i just brick my phone? ...
EDIT : googled around and now im trying to restore my phone via SEUS...
Ok.. my phone started up fine after running SEUS.. but I clicked restore to factory instead of update..
I want to try updating to 2.3.3 with root again.. So can anyone point out anything I did wrong the previous time?
1. I downloaded the generic UK version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119074) and flashtool 0.2.8 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746)
2. I used flashtool and flashed the .tft file and followed the onscreen instructions...
3. the flashing stops halfway cause i didnt enable usb debugging (?) and it causes my phone to be unable to boot up and trauma for me for panicking for 30 minutes. ._.
I tried flashing again with USB debugging on..?
My version is now 2.3.3 after I restored with SEUS, however.

It might be that you're not using the latest version of flashtool, it's 0.2.9.1 and it's the beta one and afaik it's the only one to support the play.

When flashing, have you ticked the 'erase data' (I'm not sure it's the exact name) or are you flashing without erasing? Cus it looks like that's where the error occurs when it's supposed to flash the data?

Hello, i have an Xperia Play 2.3.3/3.0.1.A.0.145 Clean Bootloader locked version.
And i want to root it with this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116090
(And the unlocking bootloader way is not an option because i had a lot of problems with it and i can't flash anything with it)
anyway, the problem is when i plug my phone and the flashtool asks me what device i choose X10 (the first option)
then i choose the FW and select all the files and cleck flash.
and i fallow the instructions by unplugging my phone and hold the back button and plug it again.
So far so good, but when the flashing begins and start with the first file, this massage appears:
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - INFO - Now unplug the device and power it on
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - INFO - Then go to application settings
13/013/2011 05:13:49 - INFO - turn on Unknown Sources and Debugging
And yes i did what the massage told me to do.
and i tried to flash so many times with no good.
so please help me or tell me what i'm doing wrong.
Are you using the beta version of flashtool? (think it's 2.9.1). It's the only one supporting the play. The reason I ask is I don't choose any phone when flashing I only have a x10 .exe when flashtool is extracted to my desktop
Regards Dousan...
When I go to use FlashTool, I get like 3 options as far as 'firmware'. Two X10 ones, and a 'Generic UK Xperia Play' one. The latter has about 8 or 9 different files in the pop-up column, while the other two only have like 2 files each. I think I'm supposed to flash the firmware that says Xperia Play UK Generic, correct?

Yes. And when it's done you root it with gingerbreak or any way you like. and finally you do OTA update.

If you didn't unlock it your self, Then it should be locked.
@ddsds it might be the file you're trying to flash that's corrupt or something, maybe a redownload will help. Have you installed the ggsetup.exe? You might also try deleting flashtool and re-extract it again?
This is how I proceed with flashing:
1. Turn phone off.
2. Start flashtool.
3. Hit flash button in program and wait for it to tell me to plug in phone.
4. Plug in phone - it flashes.
5. Turn on phone.
(first time I flashed I chose the fw file and I only have the UK generic for the play located in that folder wich I downloaded from a thread here on xda).
(make sure unknown sources and debugging is on)

We could use a bit more info.. How did you upgrade only through SEUS? Or did you try a custom ROM and performed the upgrade/downgrade step by step following the info provided on the forum.
The more info we get on what you have done, the better we can help.
Thanks for your replies
Here is what I have attempted so far:
1. Flash tool and forum instructions:
a) Device will take any 1.6 (branded or unbranded) firmware but wont allow to use any features of interface other then emergency calling
b) 2.1 firmware with different revisions/baselines have been attempted as well but device just wont boot at all.
c) after flashing with 2.3 firmware device goes in to constant boot_loop.
2. SEUS couldn't locate the new software as my phone has latest software available from the server. (still on 1.6 )
3. Same with SE Companion, it comes up with the message that software is not available for my phone yet.
Hope this clarify some of the issues and thanks again for all your help.
Have you tried to flash any other baseband after flashing the 2.3.3 GB update? You need 0.71 baseband to run the update. I'ts 2 different files.I'm guessing before this happened you never made any backup in Xrecovery wich you could restore and start over again?

Go there .. Download FlashTool version 0.3.0.0
depending x10a or x10i.. but it's the same file name get the Generic version 2.1update1 build 2.1.A.0.435
then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960527
download baseband.. 2.1.54 .. again.. x10a ..x10i same file name just under different section..
first install flashtool.. exact both zips u just downloaded into the firmware folder in flashtool
flash the 2.1 firmware first.. reboot.. if u get hung at the sony Ericsson screen.. remove battery.. go to flashtool and flash the Baseband file u downloaded ( the second file .. )
then from there.. when the phone boots.. root it.. it will reboot install xrecovery.. the first one .. without GB In the file name..

True, EWJET kicks ass. But this should work Make sure u follow every step in the ROM's OP. So that you will install the 0.71 baseband this time. Otherwise you will again run into a bootloop.
