Am I able to sideload on stock 1.2 nook firmware
And if so can someone direct me to some places that have nook apps not regular android apps?
ok no reply thats cool....
No and Yes.. On a non rooted, b&n only allows apps from them. However, you may create a sd card that allows access to apps from other sources, ie Google android market, Amazon App Store, Getjar, etc
..Do a forum search for nooter 1.2 if a blue dot nc

I have my nook color 1.3 rooted using the new "two MN" process. I have everything working as far as market, amazon app store, etc. However I can not seem to install apps from the barnes and noble app store.
The app downloads and starts to install but errors out with a message stating not enough free space. I do not think this message is valid as I know there is plenty of space on the NC.
I have tried on two different NCs I own and the same message is returned.
The only thing I can think of is that the default associated APK loader is not the nooks app loader.
Has anyone else run into this on 1.3?
Thanks,
Rick
You can always downgrade to 1.2. I downgraded my NC from 1.3 to 1.2, then rooted my NC and everything including apps work fine.
I rooted my nook today and no matter what I try, using Opera Mini, I cannot get any google apps to install. I also cant figure out how to add a device to google apps. Since the Market app never works for anyone this seems to be the only way to install anything but there are no forums mentioning how to install it. I would appreciate some assistance. Thanks.
no one here knows the answer to this? i'm shocked no replies yet.
download gapps.zip and flash it.

Just hit thanks if I helped.
Guyman2,
Depending on the rooting method you used, there is way to install gapps, which includes market (google play - they are compatible in use, nothing being left). Check it on the proper post here in the development forum!

To more succinctly state the problem:
How can you get APKs out of Google Play without loading your personal device with a load of junk from Google?
I've got Google Maps on my Nook right now and every time I turn my back it's trying to do something (when not running).
Renate,
Gotta live with that. That's the price of having market (gmail always on the background, etc), but it helps the system runs a little bit better (apps upgrade!).
Guyman,
Look on the thread related to touchnooter, and probably there will be an option to add gapps to your system. Usually the 1st post show you all the options.
Have the same problem - is there a way to install market only?
What I'm going to do is install on my phone, extract it from the phone, then load onto the Nook and delete what's left over! Madness, I know.
A nicer way for me would be to install into a virtual machine and do that. Anyone know if that's possible? Possibly even with Android-x86??
I don't like market in this sense. It's a problem with all Android devices as far as I can see. Market is a bit of a problem in this regard.
I'm not sure about the problem here, but, I can confirm that, I rooted my NST with Touchnooter and market is working fine, I downloaded several apps from market and, I also installed some apps trough Google Play Store from my PC directly to the NST.
For me Market search didn't work after following MinimalTouch so I had to use the SearchMarket app from Appbrain. After this now I can search and install anything but still can't click the notifcations, OperaMini crashes back to the ADW desktop, same for Browser too after clicking a link in Google.
edit:
for Renate re: Maps out of control. Yes, I noticed too that it comes out of the background and wastes battery. 2 ideas: 1) Freeze it when not in use. You can use a Widget from Titanium or AppQuarantine for quicker launch 2) use something 3rd party
I also suggest using a different account for the Nook to any other Android devices you have to keep things separate and clear since the NST is not recognised by Play.
For a bare-bones root with an appstore, tinynoot ought to work.
I cobbled it together for the glowlight but all the parts are from the established NST environment - clockwork, su, busybox, adw, button savior, nook touch and nook color tools.
I include the Amazon appstore, which of course is also an app that likes to be always on, but none of the gapps because the framework for the glowlight stuff hasn't been looked at yet.
The install scripts are based on minimal nooter, which is CWR based file and directory creation.
I didn't include a modded uRamdisk because I find that adb wireless is enough on its own to let me use wifi adb (dont' recall if I've used usb ADB but I suspect it would work, in assocation with nook color tools) - I can shell in via ADB and just need to type su to get superuser.
Downloads and longwinded instructions are up at

You could format and use one of my minimal zips instead of the full ones, they had only the neccesary apps and libs for Gmail (manual sync) and "Market" to work correctly, nothing more, nothing less, no maps, etc.
Now everything is a bit outdated, as I said, I'll work on this again and update the zips etc.
I have a nook simple touch, with I rooted with Nooter from nookdevs.
I have two issues: First, when I try to download Dropbox from the Amazon app store, I get an error saying it could not parse the package. Is there either a fix for this, a way to get Android Marketplace to work, or another way to side load the Kindle app besides Dropbox?
Also, I can't figure out what button to use to get back to the main app screen-if I get to anywhere without a back button...I have to reboot. Just me being a noob, but I honestly spent almost an hour trying to figure this out.
Anyone help a noob out?
Thanks in advance.
Can you post a link to the guide you followed? My memory is that the nookdevs rooting guide gets you as far as booting from noogie which lets you manually place files into /system and /data, but if you have the appstore installed, it sounds like you've gotten a little past that.
You want to have nook color tools, IIRC, or similar installed, so that you can enable the installation of "unsigned apps," that ought to let your apps from the appstore finish installing. For that change to take, you'll need the su binary installed and a few other things.
Touchnooter lets you have the android market on a nook touch; glownooter does so on a glowworm, and there are guides here to nooter that uses clockwork to root an NST with the touchnooter-style of root.
If you just need / want the amazon market running, you can use tinynoot - for Android market to work, more of the OS needs to be changed than for the Amazon appstore, but IIRC you do still need to enable unsigned apps.
Android market spontaneously started working, but I would still like the ability to sideload apps. I can't post links-I am new here-It appears to be called TouchNooter.
I have quite a few NOOK Read To Me books that will not show up in my library. I have CM7.2 with the latest version of the Nook app from the Play Store. I can buy other books fine and they download immediately, but not these. Any idea why? The device is registered with the same account that I'm using for the app.
I paid for these books and actually can't download them onto the PC and transfer them (they say the item can't be downloaded from a browser).
Any help is appreciated.

I don't think the read to me books work on the nook android app. I think you have to be on the stock reader.

Read to me books can only be read on the bn stock firmware. Hope you still have stock firmware on emmc. To see the read to me books on the android bn reader app, go to first drop down box, press "all items", select "everything else". You will see all your read to me books, but you will not be able to open them. Has to do with bn proprietary software and adobe air. If you have cm7.2 in emmc you can put bn stock firmware on SD or internal alternate boot.
Any way to download/save them and re-flash cm7.2?

No. Once you have BN stock firmware set up either on SD card or emmc you can sign into your BN account and re-sync the device. You will then be able to see your purchased items. Look at LeapinLar's tips thread to restore BN stock firmware. You have several options on where you put the stock ROM and cm7/10.
Hi, first post here from an old fart and a total non-geek. I browsed some threads here but couldn't figure it out -- probably too stupid to use them for my case.
I rooted my Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight (NSTG, os version 1.2.1) with Nook Manager following instructions (from outside link I can't post) based on this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040351
Now when I click Relaunch and go to the apps, there are 16 apps.
How can I install more apps? (Kindle, etc.)
The Browser is very bad and rarely acts as a browser. (Just freezes.)
Only apps I see that could be helpful are:
ADB Konnect (Is this for connecting the Nook with another computer on my network? What do I do with it?)
Amazon Appstore (doesn't work)
Nook Touch Mod Manager(?)
I want to be able to read Kindle books, epubs, pdfs, etc. in addition to the standard BN Nook books (which I have no problem accessing after the root).
Any help would be much appreciated. I have little time before I can return the Nook, which I will do if I can't use it as intended.
Thanks much!

Yes, the Amazon App Store is dead. I don't know much about ReLaunch, but if there is an app manager you can uninstall Amazon App Store and the native Browser. Both are useless.
Nook Touch Mod Manager is for reassigning behaviors to the "n" button, the four hardware buttons, and a few more. You can look at it without any harm, but you'll probably want to get to know your device better (and how you will use it) before reassigning anything.
Again, I'm not sure about ReLaunch, but I know it has a kind of file manager (where you can browse/create folders, maybe delete files). If you don't want to install GoogleApps to get the Market working and obtain apps that way, then you will have to side-load them. That's not such a bad thing. I think the majority of my apps are side-loaded because current Market versions won't run on the Nook, so you often have to find older versions of apps elsewhere.
There are two methods for side-loading:
One uses ADB (hence the ADB Konnect app). For that you would need to get something like the Minimal ADB and FastBoot package for your PC. Maybe more than you want to know.
The other method is really easy IF the file manager in ReLaunch behaves like others. To find out, you can create a folder (maybe "Downloads"?) either on the internal memory or on the SD card in which to move apk files from your PC to your Nook via the USB connection. Once the apk file is on the Nook (and you're disconnected from the USB cable) you can go to the folder where you moved the apk file. Touching the file should initiate the package installer and you just follow the prompts from there.
Is that clear enough (from one old fart to another ? Since you mentioned the browser and Kindle app, I'll give you some files to try. They are attached below. If you run into trouble, just holler and I'll try to walk you through the ADB method.
