[Q] Will My NC EVER Have a Bluetooth Mic? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help everyone, I'm quickly becoming an addict in eager expectation of a fix I find myself surfing onto XDA daily/hourly with the hope of seeing something on the Dev page like "Bluetooth Headset Mic Finally Working on NOOK COLOR!!" I search and search but nothing satisfies.
Please someone...tell me straight out, "YOU WILL NEVER SEE IT, SO STOP LOOKING FOR IT AND ENJOY YOUR NOOK COLOR!!!"
BTW I love this thing, I just constantly lust over the idea of controlling it with voice commands. I've been spoiled by my HTC Hero, and haven't typed a word since the voice options were introduced in Froyo.
Can/Will someone put me out of my misery?

POLL: Voice Text Problems

I am trying to find out how many people are having issues using the voice text function within either swype or android keyboard.. I noticed another thread that somewhat acknowledged the issue however it ended after only a few posts.. I am trying to find out if this is a serious problem or just one with my Epic. I was trying to use it tonight, and I went through ten different tries and not once did it even hear any of my speech no matter what i did. Then it managed to catch one word and continue to hear nothing.. Is anyone else having this problem this bad??
I just tried it for the first time and it seems to work great. Im rooted noobnl rom 1.03 and cw installed

[Q] Bluetooth, Stock Music Player and Rom for the DROID X

I have recently bought the Droid X about a week ago. Being that this is
my first Android device, i am quickly learning what works well and
what doesn't work so well. I am an ex-iPhone user and the one thing it does
well is iPod and bluetooth integration. I struggle with this on my
Droid X.
Seems the software isn't up to snuff especially when playing my
podcasts so i use Google Listen for this across the Bluetooth protocol. The problem is that when a phone call comes in I can take it on BT but when I end the call, the stock music player app starts up as well as Google Listen(app that was currently playing). Neither knows who is the boss apparently. A similar thing occurs when starting the vehicle as the stock music player starts but not Google Listen. So I have to stop the music player and then start Google Listen. A royal pain to say the least.
Now the really interesting thing is that the stock music player WILL play my synced podcasts but will always restart the podcast from the
beginning which sucks if you are in the middle of a 2 hour podcast.
Having said all that I know that the bluetooth issues are known with DROID X but what about other solutions. What about alternate Roms? Would this offer any better solutions to problems like these? Why does one load alternate roms? To solve problems, gain new functionality, what?
I have the 2.2 OTA update. Can you update the rom from this state and
more importantly can you get back to stock VZ.
I have done the iphone jailbreaking and nor could always go back to stock OS.
I would appreciate some info on this as I would love to be able to
start resolving some of my issues if possible.
Thanks in advance.

I know that I am going to get blasted 4 this - custom roms are not going to solve any issues. They only create issues. Just read some of the threads. They are fun (to me). But the ones created for the X don't add functionality - they actually loose functionality. No panoramic in the camera. No dnla. Not hdmi out. For most people - who cares about that stuff? But they aren't created to fix blue tooth issues. They are cut down to be light and fast and themed - rooted, deodexed, zip aligned, and optimized. But I haven't seen them resolve any technical issues.
Just my opinion though. I await the thrashing from the rom crackheads. Bring it

I agree with thepolishguy. They just add issues...
Thanks for the honest and sincere replies. I may look at rooting when the need arises as I understand there are a couple of popular apps that require this. I may have questions that need to be posted and will do so at that time.
Thanks again.

This is only slightly on topic but I was using GMaps to navigate today and had a call.. turns out my 'navigator narrarator' doesn't know what interrupt means.. does the caller hear the announcement as well? It's one thing if I can vaguely hear her, but when I can't hear the caller at ALL.. it is a bit frustrating. Guess I'll not take calls when I know a turn is coming up..

Driving? Don't Count on Voice-to-Text

Since the update to GB... my voice-to-text has not been working properly in the car. I first thought it might be background noise like the A/C or something but it appears to only happen when the car is moving.
Isn't this the whole point of voice-to-text? To keep you safe while driving so it doesn't require typing. Am I the only one with this problem? Is there any kind of workaround? I depend heavily on this feature. This is a big negative for me.
Same issue here. Voice to text has been broken for me since the first GB update on a stock unrooted EVO.
busted here too.
sucks.
Yes this happens to me too.
Just quit using your phone in the car so i can quit flipping you people off!
Have y'all tried updating voice search from the market? I noticed there was a recent update for it mentioning bug fixes.
Tried updating everything. Full factory restore on Unrooted GB 2.3.3 both the first release and with the maintenance fix. Changed Voice Input and Output settings. Changed the Google account dashboard and personalization. Everything and even rolling back to 2.2 which doesn't work because of the new Hboot.
It is completely broken. You get going 20-25mph+ and the mic does not respond.
Hope that it is address in a future release update (not likely), but will have to root and roll back.
Can any one that is rooted and on the stock 2.3 or different rom confirm if voice search is working for them?

Yeah... I updated Voice Search and I will find out later if it works when I get in my car.
Well, I did the Voice Search update and still can't do voice to text in the car while it's moving. This is ridiculous! I love using HeyTell especially when driving and now it has become useless.
A guy at work asked me today if i knew anything about this problem. He has had this problem since the GB update and his EVO is stock and not rooted. I told him I would look into it. Looks like I found the answer.

I did; however, find out that the voice search does work in the texting mode once you've hit the car in front of you wondering why it wasn't working during the driving process. Once stopped, it is amazing!
EDIT: OK..couldn't resist, but reminds me of the little "Don't use this while your driving" disclaimer in the gps units turning them on.
I've had issues with it when not moving.
I'm not sure where this connection to driving comes into play?

The whole advantage of voice-to-text is so you don't text while driving. My phone sits in a dock in the car. If someone texts me, I can verbally respond without taking my hands off the wheel. You know... kinda like talking on the phone hands-free. That's why voice-to-text is so valuable to me.
Earlier tonight I discovered the problem is worse. I was outside taking a walk and decided to use voice-to-text and nothing. Would not recognize. But once I stopped walking and used it... it was fine. So it's not just limited to driving. They need to fix this problem!
I did some looking around on Google and this issue has been reported on multiple different sites. However, it seems that it's more related to background noise rather than being in a moving vehicle. If there is any amount of background noise, voice to text seems to not work properly. It seems that it works fine if you are in a completely silent environment.

Yeah... I read the same thing but my tests did not ring true. When I was stopped at a light, I put the AC on at full blast and the voice-to-text worked flawlessly. But as soon as I moved and even with the AC off... nothing. For me, there didn't seem to be any connection with background noise... only movement.
My only other suggestion is to try an app called Vlingo for the mean time. The In Car mode is amazing. Just say "hey vlingo" and it starts listening to commands. It really is completely hands free. You never have to touch your phone to send texts and it even reads your message back to you to confirm before sending. I've never had problems with it although the in car mode is still in beta. Good luck!
I just spoke this entire post while driving 45 miles an hour down the road using Google voice search.
I had same issue on stock Rom. I believe if u look at main settings, voice input and output, text to speach settings, and in there it should say something about downloading something. If it needs updating u can press it and market will open with what u need

So I tried going through the text-to-speech settings but no luck. The issue doesn't seem to be with text-to-speech but with voice-to-text. It's like the microphone stops picking up audio when in motion.
Nevertheless... got this today from HTC...

[Q] Bluetooth connection pop-up: Can it be disabled?

Maybe I'm not using the right search terms, but I can't seem to find anybody talking about this.
When you turn bluetooth back on after pairing a device (in my case, my car stereo) a popup appears asking you basically if you want to reconnect with the existing device. This is annoying. I want my phone to connect to my stereo automatically and I don't want a popup telling me about it.
I discovered an app in the market called "Bluetooth Auto Connect" which seems to have solved the first problem (reconnecting automatically), but the pop-up still appears every time.
Is this a Jelly Bean thing or a Samsung thing? Can somebody point me in the right direction for disabling the pop-up?
I have the same problem. And don't know how to disable this.
bump, this thing is annoying
Are you sure it's not connecting? Mine does the same thing but does auto connect eventually. I do however hate the pop-up with a fiery passion & can't find a setting to disable it. I want it to just connect to paired devices automatically w/o the annoying effing pop-up each time.
I had this issue as well, really irritating when connecting to my car.
The easiest solution I found is an app in the playstore called "Bluetooth Auto Connect"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect&hl=en
Thing is amazing, just run it the one time and never again. Never have to deal with that popup window and selecting what you want to reconnect to.
This "feature" is VERY annoying, I thought I was the only person who hated it. It is only helpful if you have multiple Bluetooth devices. The only workaround I have found is to enable Bluetooth on the S4 and then cut your Bluetooth device on WHILE the S4 screen is off.
The added step is annoying as well but no pop up....
Also I've noticed that if you already have Bluetooth enabled and connect your device during a live call it does not pop up.
This has resulted in me leaving Bluetooth enabled on the S4 and answering all my calls by cutting on my Bluetooth device.

It's called an idiom.... You obviously knew what it meant or you wouldn't be "splitting hairs". There's another idiom for you.
Welcome to the English language.

Irony: Someone butchering the English language welcoming me to it.
I'm quite well versed in the English language, thank you very much. It's people like you who bastardize it that make me concerned for our nation's future. I only wish not seeming like an idiot when you speak wasn't the 'in thing' in society. When did being intelligent and well spoken go out of fashion anyway?

Hey Ostrich Sak, how about we just agree to disagree that the use of the idioms "cut on" or "cut off" are butchering the English language and/or dooming the nation. Let's not hijack the thread or insult each other over something so insignificant to the point of the original post.
I'm sure we can both agree that civility goes a lot further than douchery towards preserving and creating harmony. And THAT is the intelligent thing to do any way you cut it.
I would also like to know if it's possible to disable popup, without root that is, I'm very happy with my i9505 usung build mg4...
On another note, it would be nice if you folk voluntaraly edit your OT posts and keep it nice and clean, (the insults and nastiness is not needed or nessassary) without needing intervention from the moderators, thank you

Far as I'm concerned he and I hashed it out like adults and reached a resolution. Nobody was insulted and nobody was nasty. Man, this new generation is WAY too sensitive and dependent on authority figures to solve perceived issues. People wonder what's wrong with society...

[Dev][App] Unnamed Calling App

Hi all!!!!!
So I have always wanted to put my own Android system/Tablet in my car. I know that a lot of people have done it before but the one thing that's always bothered me is phone calls, how do you make/receive calls while driving? I have been researching this for a long time and from what I can tell the Android system won't allow you to use a second Android device as a handsfree. I still have no idea how those cheap Android car radios do it.
My friend and I figured out a roundabout way of doing it tho. Your phone will be connected to any kind of hands-free device, something like this for example https://www.amazon.ca/Bluetooth-Spe...d-search-10&pf_rd_t=BROWSE&pf_rd_i=3328253011 and it will also be connected (with Bluetooth) to your tablet.
The app will have all your contacts from your phone on the tablet. When a call comes in it will show the number/contact name on the tablet and you will be able to answer the call with a simple swipe. If you want to make a call you can dial it on the tablet or just hit a contact name.
Right now the app is very VERY simple. All it can do now is know that it is connected to another device and show you the phone number of the person calling you on the tablet. This should work on any Android 6+ and device.
I'm hoping some of you can test it out and let us know if it does/doesn't work for you and what you are using it on.
I have an update (assuming anyone is following LOL)
now you can accept or reject a call from another phone/tablet/Ordoid using this app. The "PICK" and "DROP" buttons should appear on the second phone or tablet as soon as the first phone receives a call. The pick button will pick the call and drop will reject it.
so a small update. It seems as though the last update has an issue (we are working on.) The "pick up" "drop" functions only work for Android 8 and under. Personally, I don't have a device that is under Android 9 but I'm hoping there are a few of you that can let me know if it's working or not.
Update- We have been having difficulty programmatically accepting or rejecting a call in Android 9+ as Android only allows those apps that are the default calling apps to manage calls. We will probably need to make our own default calling app within our app to enable Picking and Dropping incoming call functionality.
https://developer.android.com/reference/android/telecom/TelecomManager.html#endCall
The end-call or accept-call feature is deprecated for Android 29(Android 10 and above). We are working on it but I figured a few people might want to know.
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages........I present to you an update so fresh that not even I have had a chance to install it yet. LOL
My friend literally just sent it to me. I wanted to share it with all you guys first!
Take note, he says that after you play around with it you may want to uninstall it (from your phone) because it needs to be your default dialer. Obviously, we are working on that and doing a crap ton of reading but hopefully for now it works on anything higher than Android 9.
As usual, let me know what you guys think!
