i hav got a srs prob.. with data connection activated my battery gettin drained out with in 2hours. ( this started after i hav flashed fugu ultra. then went back to fugu beta & g3mod.. problem persists.. even i hav tried battery calibration & reflashing whole rom.. (
& my phone getting turned off in a strange way.. it is being closed at 50% remaining battery life state.. :S
NOTE: with data connection disabled d battery life is just awesome...
i think you should wipe everything, flashing an official rom will do it i think, but i'm not sure that official roms contain kernel.

Stock Roms have a good battery backup.
Try flashing with stock roms.
I am facing the same problem when data connection activated. The problem occurred after using stock Rom JPN with FuguMod 2.4 Beta3. My battery dropped after 2 hour. After that i installed rooted stock JPM but the battery problem was still there. Now i am on non-rooted stock JPQ and i am still having the same problem when data connection activated. With data on, my phone can not last more than an hour. It suddenly shut down even when fully charged. I have to reboot and deactivate data connection in order to be able to use my phone for normal calls. Hopefully someone will find solution for this problem.
Just wrote a thread that maybe solves your problems!! All the best!!

so can we calibrate our battery using the stock kernel and not face any problems?

I recently upgraded to HTC OTA froyo update and having few problems after the update:
1. The phone gets hot when we charge it.
2. The battery drain too quickly after the update. The battery life was much better with Eclair. Im not using many third party apps and none of them that I use sync in the background.
Anyone seem to have this problem and any solution?
-GB
My Battery life is similar before and after Froyo update. Also my usage is comparable.
1 The phone should not get "hot" when charged....warm yes...about 35 degrees (or less).....you can check temp. via app like battery status.
2 Do you have battery saver installed? Try juice defender (or any other) and see if some changes in settings can improve you battery life.
Both Apps can be downloaded via android market.
3 Back-up your phone first and do a reset to factory settings. http://www.knowyourmobile.com/smart...12297/how_to_hard_reset_the_htc_wildfire.html
if you have froyo uninstall any app killer you have, not required and clashes

Agree that Froyo is efficient in killing apps/tasks. Still have advanced task killer running to do this manually when I want......no crashes or clashes sofar...
Does a task killer have a (noticable) effect on battery life? See this thread....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898410
HTC wildfire battery life reduced
Dear Friends,
I have the same issue.I was getting two and half days with my use.But after updating to froyo, it reduced to just one day........I have checked all the options like auto synch, location and wifi etc....
I dont any app killer or battery saver.

hi to everyone!
yup, i got the same problem too.. before the update 2 days with normal use now 22 h max with light use... and i have turned off the gps the 3g, the wifi, the autosync, i don't use any task killer and the only widgets i have are the mail and the clock. i'm kinda pissed off.. but i guess i'll have to wait like everybody else the guys to find a solution for the rooting thing..
cheers
I'm facing same issue here..
Anyone have solution how to get longer battery life?
Ave you tryed to do a factory reset afther you applied the update? It did some wonders for me..
ErwinP
U mean factory reset which will erase all our data will help to pro long the life of battery?
well, i have .. sort of.. sorted it out. actually the thing draining the battery is the data mobile network. first i tried to block all the syncs and all the apps that were trying to connect to the data network, but no luck, the battery was still short, staying alive around 12h. then one day i noticed that with all the syncs off my wildfire was buzzing as hell on the speakers of my pc; a constant rattling like it would if i was making a call. soo, the only thing left to do was keep the power button down and turn the mobile data off. now i'm costantly on wifi but the battery can easily do 48 hours with normal use.
I dont know what they've done with the new radio or froyo itself , but they f***** it up pretty badly.
sorry for my english
Hey Guys Just Had This problem with OTA froyo 2.2 That's What Happened :
First : My battery Used to stay for about 2.5 days with light use even after froyo 2.2 OTA
Once Found That My Battery Drops To 50% after 12 hours Without Even Touching The Phone ( No Autokill Apps)
That's What Ive Done :
I Powered Off The Phone , Removed the battery for some minutes , put It Again and Powered the phone again , recharged it to 100% and left it as a test and it's going well till now
So U can try it Guys =) You Wont Lose Anything
P.S Make Sure your Uptime and Awake Time of the phone after restart is back to Zeros
Good Luck
what do u mean 'Make Sure your Uptime and Awake Time of the phone after restart is back to Zeros '?
Same problem
Battery life is now one day only
I mean the numbers start counting from zero =)
I think this can help you.

When you recalibrate your battery, it takes a few life cycles for the battery to stabilize and for Android to get an accurate reading. First life cycle is alway short. Of course, don't play with ROMs so much it may damage your phones read only memory.
I will post my battery life soon, I'm still waiting for the battery to deplete, I haven't recharged my phone in 4 days now after I calibrated my battery.

Wow 4days is huge, iam getting hardly 1day battery after calibrating yesterday....
Actually i removed my phone before getting the 100% notification....
So should i wait for battery to improve???
By the way, when did you calibrate???
Should i calibrate again????
If this wont work i will try terminal emulator method...
So in this method do we need to charge 100% or discharge completely??
Some precautions or just write those commands at any point of charge???
Iam wondering how to thank from the xda app
Thnx to both of u

Same problem here.
Battery drained from 100% to 60% in 3 hours, then to 15% after 5 hours. phone super hot! Widget showed temp 42°C !
Not even used the phone for more than 15 min! REALLY!
Then calibrated before 3 days, now a max of 1 day battery backup only.
Plz help.
And 1 life cycle means I must let the phone charge 100% then let it discharge till it's switched off.
And I should repeat the cycle.correct me if I am wrong.
And I have the habit of not charging to 100% in a single charge session, 2-3 breaks, should I change it?
clarkkov said:
If your phone is hot without you using it, something is running in the background, that shouldn't. Which ROM are you using and which tweaks/fixes have you applied?
One battery life cycle means battery drain from 100% (fully charged) to 1% (fully discharged). Your phone does not have to turn itself off, but make sure it is at 1% when you begin to charge it again. This is important only for a few cycles after calibration, afterwards you are free to charge it as you wish, but while calibrating it's highly recommended that you don't interrupt the charging process (4Hrs).

I am using rooted jpd from samfirmware, no fixes except sdcard speed fix, previously it used to give a good battery backup.
And apps do run in background.
Should I set autokill level to high in task killer?

on DDJP2.. getting a horrible backup since i have updated thru KIES. generally on jg6 used to get almost 1.5 days which has come down to 12-16 hours now. trying to calibrate my battery with app 'battery calibration'.. calibrated once.. but still no change. read somewhr that we get the same backup for first few times even after calibrating.. but to get sure i am writing down my process.. plz chk if m doing right or not ..
1. plug in phone with charger
2. wait till 100%.
3. press battery calibration or delete batterystat.bin with the help of root explorer.
4. unplug charger and use it till it discharges completely.
5. charge again to 100%.
plzzzz chk and tell.

You need to be aware that wireless services are draining the battery the most. If you are not using 3G - switch it off, same with BT and WIFI. Widgets that update frequently also drain the battery fast, background data, auto sync services/features are battery killers, too.

Hey there,
scince I use BatteryLeftWidget, I can see that my battery voltage only reches 4171mVolt.
So, batterystat.bin delete doesnt help, so anyone an idea where to put the 4200mV ?
Can someone help me troubleshoot my battery issue??
I tried calibrating.. but it doesn't seem to work.. no matter how many cycles are done.. it still stays the same..
My battery drains out and my phone switches off within a few minutes and sometimes even in a few seconds when the Data Connection is ON.
But without Data Connection ON.. the battery seems to drain comparatively lesser and lasts for about 5 hours after very less usage..
And, I have observed that with the data connection ON, and keeping the phone on stand-by (i.e. Without using the phone and keeping screen off), the battery seems to stay at 100% for over 2 hours. :O ..and the very instant, I start using the phone, it switches off saying that the battery is low... :/
I have tried different kernels and different governors too.. didn't help.. :/
I would really appreciate it if someone helps me troubleshoot this issue.
Thank You!!

My battery lasts around 12-14 hrs.. on my UNINOR simcard..
and whn i use my AIRTEL simcard it easily pulls over a day...
and yup i always have my data connection on and fair amount of phone usage...
so i guess it's something to do with the network of carriers as it looks like our android uses hell lot of battery just to get the network signal..
and yeah Uninor signal sucks at my workplace...
so the point is for few of us it could also be a bad reception area case..

But really in my opinion its a battery DEFECT for sure. While data connection is on cell radio is used more transmitting data eating more power so your phone drains more quickly.
I think try a new battery. Or simply go to Service Centre to have a checkup.
But really this should be battery defect. How old is your battery? Did you bump charged?
See when I used Data Connctn my phone lasted 12 to 13 hours on continue use of FB, Nimbuzz, Gtalk, Youtube, maps, gmail auto sync. when I switched off gtalk maps etc I got 16 hours apprx and when no data connection was there at all I still remember I got 4.5 days battery life. From this it is clear Data connctn uses a lot of battery and so does the Internet Related media and Services.
My IDEA-
I suggest you first completely discharge the battery, Discharge it completely keep on switching on after it turns off again switch on and continue that when discharged completely.charge 100% in Power Off without any cut offs. Calibrate, wipe battery stats and then again COMPLETELY DISCHARGE. Now Again charge 100% in Power Off Mode if it works then enjoy if not google for some time more, search the thread and then if nothing comes up go for a new battery.
Check out the battery/lags tackling thread link in my signature!! hope that helps
After days of experimentation and frustration,
I, now, have a good battery backup of around 35Hours without data connection ON and average usage including around 150 Texts and 15 Minutes of call.. and a about 5 hours of doing different stuffs on the phone..
Though I'm yet to test it with data connection ON.
Here's what I did to get the fairly "good" battery backup without data connection ON.
I charged my phone to 100%. And started using it 'til it switched itself off at around 88%. Then I waited for about 10 minutes before switching it on again.. I repeated the same process 'till the battery drained to 0%...
I had the same battery problem. So i decided to change it with my friend. I used his battery for about 15 minutes and everything was working perfectly. In other hand he was not able to use mine more than 2 minutes. So it is definitely not the problem in phone itself but in battery.

Can you go into purchase history in the market and find that app? Sometimes I have found that I can click on it and sometimes manage it and clear the cache, etc. I would start by clearing the cache and data (if you have it saved somewhere else) and see if it works OK. I'm on Moray 2.2.2. and that app works ok, I just checked.

Sorry, I forgot that that only works with a rooted device.
root checker say im root. What can i do?
If you're rooted, you should have Clockwork Mod installed. If you boot into CWM, you can reset the battery status from there. That seems to work sometimes.
Obviously he is rooted fellas if he's flashin kernels...
Try doing this
power down
charge it (while its off) till green
unplug
power on
charge it (while its on) till green
unplug
Go into recovery
Wipe battery stats
Reboot
Power on
Let it sit for a bit
**OPTIONAL**
CHARGE TO 100%
when i wipe battery stats is CWM nothing happen.

As far as the kernel goes it really depends on the ROM your running what ROM are you running right now?

I have it too. No help so far.
Download the app "battery calibration" from the market, and follow the instructions in the app.
No use man tried all the things recommended battery savers ,calibration ,stopping services blah blah .... etc .I be live is time to say goodbye to this rom and return to plain old Eclair. It is no fun to worry when the battery will go flat on me!
Set min CPU to 19 MHz (only in custom kernels)
No lag, reboot, etc at all.
i feel also, my x8 got faster battery drain...any solution about that ?
did u guys try wiping the battery stats in CWM??? it usually helps. i had battery drains everytime i newly installed gingerdx.
Some of the tips to save your battery i learnt overtime in XDA posts thanks to those threads.. sry i dont remember the exact ones
1) Disable Haptic Feed back. ( The phone vibrates during certain UI interactions and hard button presses)
2) Keep your phone's brightness low(less than 30% if possible). If your phone has a Light Sensor, then enable Auto Brightness so that your screen's brightness changes according to to your surroundings light levels
3) Download RAM manager(requires root, if you haven't rooted your phone check out here) and keep your RAM free soa as to avoid many apps running uselessly. You can check out about RAM Manager here and download it.
4) Use Juice Defender Battery saver. This app does a neat job and really saves your battery life.
I use a Sony Ericsson W8 for now and I get a battery life of roughly three days with moderate use!
To know more about Juice Defender and to download it see here.
5) Charge your phone occasionally to enhance your battery life.
6) If you use a Custom ROM and Custom Kernel you can make use of Undervolt modules.
7) Use SET CPU (requires root, if you haven't rooted your phone check out here) to underclock your mobile processor when your phone is not in genuine use.
8) Apps like Facebook for Android, Music etc occupy your RAM even after you close them. They run as an actual background process rather than a Cache Background Process.
So goto Settings -> Applications -> Running Services to close them manually(This frees more RAM as well as increases your battery life)
9) This one is for rooted phones with Clockworkmod Recovery or xRecovery. In case you face an abnormal battery drain try this. Charge your phone to 100% and reboot your phoneto CWM menu or xRecovery menu and select advanced and Wipe battery stats alone and reboot and charge your phone for another ten minutes and Voila! your phone battery would last longer than it normally did!!!
10) Uninstall unused applications so as to prevent battery drain.

Hello Guys, I may have figured out the battery drain problem. I was previously using Froyobread on my W8. I decided to upgrade it to GDX so I flashed it.
Before flashing, my battery was at 25-27%...Right after flashing though, I noticed that it went up to 46%??? (My phone was not plugged through USB or charger during update process)
Could this be the reason for the so-called battery drain issue? Meaning the phone "thinks" its fully charged even if its not?

u better wipe the battery stats after u install a custom rom like GDX ..... charging the phone to 100 percent and then wiping the battery stats keeps the phone in a stable battery condition and there wont be battery drains.....
Okay, so I noticed that the batt drain was unacceptable the first time I installed gdx (it ate like 2% every 5min on standby) so I read all the advices here and did my own combination.
Heres what I did...
I switched back to froyobread then fully charged the phone. I then reset the bat stats thru CWM then charged the phone again. I did this like 3x coz every time I reset the stats, it would drop 5-8%...after that, I then installed GDX and once again, fully charged it the wiped stats thru CWM and using battery calibration. After that, I noticed a big change in bat life. Its now about 12hrs running under normal usage (a few calls, sms and some wifi), the batt is still at 88%...whereas before, it would have been around 30ish already when I was running froyo.
Could it be that GDX jumbles up the numbers when it is installed on phones with bad battery stats?
Just sharing my experiences...
OT: GDX rocks!
