[Q] HD2 gets slow after a few days on every ROM - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey guys,
I've got a little problem with my HD2. Every NAND ROM I ever used got very slow after a few days of usage. It starts lagging and sometimes I get random reboots.
Does anyone know how to solve this? It's so annoying!
Thanks for your help!

Sounds like your HD2 is running low on memory. I would install SuperBox or some task killer like Autokiller Memory Optimizer from the market and set it to aggressive. Superbox will let you pree up memory also...and clear cache.

the hyperdroid rom is pretty clean. have you got anything massive that you've installed. you could download watchdog and see if you have any cpu spikes or as MartyLK said download the memory optimizer from the market. you could also look at how much free ram you have during the times when your phone is beginning to lag

Free memory s/w for HD

Hello,
Being used HD for one week, I found one problem about memory consumption (not a problem actually ).
At startup, about 120M free memory, after using for one day (Opera, view picture, games, stock manager, etc), only about 80M RAM left.
I have tried to use
- oxios memory
- MemMaid 2.0
but it can only free 1-2M RAM, where is my RAM
Yes, I found out the same problem! Try to do a reset and the memory is cleaned again. I use the X button to kill all programs after using them, but it seems to be fludding on a regular basis, also activesync program keep popping up when I'm not connected, and the memory usage slowely gets higher every hour with a few procent.
Does anyone else has the same prob? Didn't use special appz yet, because it doesn't seem to disturb working with device.

Until the phone starts having problems, why worry? With every new device there are threads like this with people obsessing over the amount of free RAM their devices show, but honestly you can just leave Windows Mobile to deal with the RAM itself and you'll never have a problem. There's no need to try and recover all the RAM that you think should be free. The OS will take care of it.
I have the same problem. My guess is it a memory leak in some apps. ITs no big deal, because there is lots of free memory and if it really bugs me, I can do a soft reset every now and then.
Yes, it is not a problem to me until now as there are plenty of RAM available!
I just curious about the kinds of program that consume the memory??
From my observation, WM OS is not doing the job of memory management well.

Clearing your browser cache will retrieve some of it
(unless you have it to cache to the storage card)
I don't bother too much with this as it does not seem to become a problem.
But, I don't "load and leave" applications. I also generally do a soft reset once a week.
However, in SK Tools there is a "FreeUP RAM" application as part of the suite. I just ran it and it recovered 2 mbytes (a bit less than 1 %)
@ Swantony001 :
Hi, there is a thead about stopping Active-Sync activating itself all the time.
Works perfectly for me.
See here :

Greetings,
go42
the memory leak does cause problems for me, well with tomtom7 it does. sometimes i get the message "not enough memory" unpon booting TT and am forced to do a soft reset.
its not often, but the fact it happens piddles me off!
Hi, guys!
I've noticed the same thing! Something consumes active memory!!!
I watched some processes... So "cprog.exe" and "device.exe" eat memory from time to time.
I use Soft Reset once a day or in two days.
If anyone gets a new WWE ROM with that bug being fixed, please, let me know .
Memory consumption is not a big problem now, but it's a bit annoying...

Damn never experienced this problem before *touches wood*
Yeah i have experience the memory leaking up starting from 38% to 44% in a matter of hours.
No biggie, but if it comes down to problems like jonajuna experienced then, yes that is a problem.

A weird problem. Is it a memory leak? ROM? New Kernel?

So...I am running Fresh 1.1, and I flashed Madaco's new kernel...then I enabled compcache.
Ever since flashing the new kernel, my Taskiller widget (which now shows how many MB's of memory you have available) will start at about 94mb when I power on my phone. Throughout the day, as I use taskiller to close programs, the memory doesn't go back to 94mb, but slowly goes down. First it'll go to 90mb...than 88...than 82....than 66...and all the way down to 54. It decreases each time I use the taskiller saying that my maximum freed up memory is only at 54mb, when in the morning it started at 94mb.
Can anyone help me with this? or help me figure out why it might be doing this? Sorry if the description of what's happening is kind of confusing, but I don't know how to explain it any clearer.
Thanks for any help given!
You really shouldn't be using TasKiller. Find out why here: http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
Uninstall TasKiller and you should be fine.
I use it cause the apps build up and kill my battery.
I stopped using any task managers for 2 weeks and my phone never really got any faster it actually was much worse when using the keyboard so I tried using them again and it's not as laggy anymore I don't really know how true that is I believe Fresh but it didn't help me
I've read about not using taskiller elsewhere, but I swear it makes a difference. Whenever I am experiencing lag, I run it, and boom...the lag is gone. It's not just my imagination either.
But back to the question: Why the heck would the available memory be going down each time I use taskiller?
I get the same thing and I have always wondered this also I will start out with a good amount of memory and later on in the day I might be able to get half of the memory I started with freed up

starts fast, then slows down....

wen i switch the phone off, nd start it up again, its all fast nd snappy nd everything is smooth. with time, it starts to slow down, gets buggy nd rly laggy nd not very responsive. so i usually just reboot, but its meant 2 stable rite?... y does this happen? nd how to sort it out....?
running stock 2.2, not rooted
maybe an application you installed that slows your phone down?
oh so this doesnt happen 2 any1??? i dnt know wat it is. i was hopin sum1 can help
The apps u start once, they mostly stay in memory, making the phone slow and laggy. Use a task-killer, it will restore the memory and hence the speed.

since he is running 2.2 i would say dont use task killers because you dont need it in 2.2, try closing your applications with the Back key and avoid using the Home key, closing with the Home key will just minimize the application and wont close it, hope this helps
You don't need a task killer in any version of Android. I reckon you have a run-away app that is hogging CPU cycles. And the amount of remaining memory has no bearing whatsoever on the speed of the phone.
im using htc sense btw. i think it mite an app, cos yesterday it didnt happen, nd ive removed couple of stuff. anyway 2 get a the new htc sense?? the 1 that desire hd has?
No

Some apps install services which run all the time. If you go to Applications under Settings you can see running services.
I had the same issue with 2.2, phone would be nice and speedy and then after a random amount of time it would lag badly. The CPU would show 100% load but with no process associated to it.
The answer was to enable USB Debugging (god knows why but I found the solution here), since doing that my phone is super slick and I haven't had to reboot it in over 2 weeks and counting. As mentioned there is no need for killing apps with task managers in 2.2, makes the phone slower if anything.
Worth a try.

[Q] Please Help..I am at my wits end..

I have an HD2(of course)...i have tried many many roms but am stuck with the same issue..I have random freezing issues..i have tried different radios, different classes of sd cards..tried adjusting the vm heap. but to no avail..i am currently using frankenstine rom it seems to be the smoothest but i still have freezing issues..when this occurs i can only pull the battery to reset it and sometimes when i do this i must pull battery 3-5 times to get it past the magloader screen.
i have asked this question in many of the rom threads that i have used but have never gotten a clear and definite fix..can someone enlighten me on how to cure this issue it is really becoming quite frustrating.. thanks in advance to anyone..
When do you have these freezing issues?
When you're watching a web video? Playing a game and listening to music at the same time?
If so, it's cuz you've run out of ram, so your phone will lagg to death. So get a task manager to close those apps.
If not Iunno what your problem is.
Note: Try not to pull out your battery, instead use the soft reset button. If you keep pulling out your battery, you'll mess up the pins.

Have you tried a task29 prior to flashing?

it doesnt seem to be specific on when it freezes..but usually when only using 1 program at a time..i do use task manager.i recently installed words with friends and almost every time i try to open it, it will freeze.

yes the last time i flashed i used task29..someone once told me it was my radio..which ive tried to downgrade to an earlier version but that didnt help either..
I think it's ram. Reason being, if it is from opening an app, it may be the app is using too much memory for it to handle, eg. mega jump is one
Never tried words before though, but it doesn't sound like something that uses a lot of memory but Iunno.
Do you use desire hd or z builds? Those leave very little ram left.

my current rom is a desire build..what build would leave more ram?
i am going to try yet again to reflash this phone and task29 it..
Any non sense build will give you 210+ ram free.
what radio are you using? had some freeze moments when i first started fiddling with android. upgraded my radio to 2.15 and never had a freeze ever since.

yea i got this radio also...
ok i rewiped, reflashed, task29'd it last night and thought everything was a-ok until a few minutes ago when yet again it froze. i cant wait till tmobile comes out with an htc phone with the same screen size as the hd2 but native android cuz ill be all over it..this crap gets old quick..i cant believe i am the only one with this unfixable issue.
did you also fully refresh you sd card? not much point task29'ing, reinstalling android and starting over if your sd card is still full of cache/droid system folders/EXT/Dalvik and what not.
that being said, if you have had the phone since way back last year, a good proportion of the early ones had freezing problems, regardless of rom.radio, and a quick warranty swap was usually the answer.

i did use the recommended panasonic formatter..and also the cmw format, dalvik and cache wipe...
your other comment kinda makes sense..i have had this since i think February of last year.
so after speaking with tmobile, and actually reflashing windows 6.5 and having it freeze on me twice and today it got stuck in a reboot loop, I am getting a new HD2..i sure hope this one does not freeze as much as my current model..if tmobile would come out with an android phone with this big of a screen i would switch.

HD2 Android Freezing Problems

Hey guys, would love to get some help.
Flashed 2.08HSPL to my phone a while back with radio 2.15.50.14
Using Transcend 8GB Class 6 Fat32 format with 32kb buffer.
I've tried multiple Android versions (MDJ, PPDSHIFT, DL Desire) and they all often freeze. Either within a day, or literally after I load the ROM for the first time and doesn't seem to be stable. The longest I've ever had a ROM with no freezing is PPD Shifts 2.3.2 V6 Gingerbread series. Then one day it started freezing.
As in freezing, the screen freezes, I can't turn the phone off at all. I leave it hoping it would un freeze, but nothing works. The only way is to take out the battery.
Is there something wrong with HSPL 3? Should I try to reload it? Or fix the radio?
I've upgraded from a class 2 SD card and I thought it works better, but no avail.
Should i stop going SD but go to NAND? Would that stop freezing?
Or is it my phone?
I'm running Stock Windows 6.15
Please, any help would be great. This phone has so much potential but it just freezes.
It sounds like the quite common overheating problem some hd2s have. Mine gets really hot in the bottom part under heavy usage and freezes afterwards. I think it its covered by the warranty though.
I'm having the same problem. Once it gets warm the phone freezes and when I turn on data connection also. Without a sim card in place phone works just fine hmm..
I got the same issue few times.
I am guessing you are heavy user too!
Mine even got reboot automatically when its overheated -.-!

Noise.
