Help getting froyo 2.2.1 back... - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Basically, I was trying to root my myTouch 3g. I kept getting error messages with fastboot and other things with my PC, SuperOneClick wasn't rooting my phone. I had downgraded to Cupcake 1.5 to do the entire process. I had been using sappimg.nbh files to downgrade and upgrade. But, somehow, I download the Vodaphone HTC Magic 1.5 file instead of the MyTouch 3g cupcake 1.5 file. I'm tired of trying to root my phone and having things go wrong. But I want to get my MyTouch Froyo 2.2.1 rom back, but I can not find any sappimg.nbh files that will let me restore it, it keep getting the "Main version is older, please reboot" error message. All I want is my 2.2.1 froyo rom back. How can I do this?
EDIT: Also, ROM Manager won't install on my version of android, and flashrec.apk isn't flashing any recovery images on my version of android either. I downloaded Universal Androot, and it says my phone has been rooted, and installed SuperUser. I just can't get a recovery image flashed, and can't get fastboot to do anything on my pc. Basically, whenever I flash something with fastboot, my command prompt says "Downloading recovery.img xxxxkb" and just hangs on that, while my phone, in fastboot mode, just sits there. It gets a progress bar, but never moves.

Is this a 32a or 32b board? It would be immensely helpful if you could list out everything it says at your fastboot screen.

I have made a goldcard, but everytime I try to put a SAPPIMG.nbh/.zip on it, it still says "Main Version is Older" everytime I try to flash something else onto it..

Download this file:
https://rapidshare.com/files/436753940/2.53.707.2_-_sappimg.zip
1)rename the file to sappimg.zip
2)put it on the goldcard
3)start in hboot mode (hold volume - together with power. '-' = volume decrease)
4)The device should pick up the file, follow screen instructions and flash the sappimg.
5)once this has finished, you should restart and confirm you have 1.33.2010 as spl nr.
6)post here the progress and wait for further instructions

Still getting the "Main Version is Older" error message with this... :/

Cannot be... your version is 2.16.151.1 and the one i gave you is 2.53.707.2...
Simple math:
2.53.707.2 > 2.16.151.1
So either you have provided the wrong version or there is something completely wrong with your device...

My bad... it gave the "Model ID Incorrect" error this time, not the "Main Version is Older" one.
Could it be the goldcard? I've tried it using two different SanDisk cards and a Transcend card... I know certain card manufacturers won't work as a goldcard...

It's a faulty goldcard.
That error is the reason why you use a goldcard... to use a sappimg.zip from another model id :0)

Should I try remaking my goldcard? I just went to the website to make it, and the page seems to be down... or should I try a different brand of SD card with my original goldcard.img file?

Every goldcard.img is unique for the specific sdcard which you got the unique cid.
Thats why you can make a goldcard on one device and it will work on another... its sdcard specific... but you cannot take an image from sdcard to another sdcard...

Try to remake... try another sdcard... what ever...
As long as you get the "model id error" you are doing something wrong...

I made downloaded the QMAT (I think it is now called Rev Tools) to reverse the CID string. I'm getting the CID string from the Terminal Emulator app, then emailing it directly to my email, copying the string, pasting it in the Crypto Toolbox app, reversing the string, replacing the first two digits with 00, creating the goldcard.img, opening that and my sd card in HxD, replacing up to line 00000170 with the goldcard, saving, placing sappimg.zip on it, and hbooting the sappimg.zip. Still getting the Model ID error. I've done this with 4 different SD cards now... what could I be doing wrong?
Am I not supposed to replace the first two digits? I swear it says that in the instructions.. that seems like it could be my only error.

I think I know what happened. I wasn't clicking "Removable Disk (I" in HxD which is where my SD was mounted. I was clicking some other Removable Disk in the list.. Once I corrected this, I tried doing it, then my SD card kept saying to format it. Looks like I need to wait it out a few days until I can get a Kingston SD card :|

Sorry for the triple post. I got the Goldcard working finally. I followed all these steps and completed them all, and my spl is now the one that is noted.
Code:
1)rename the file to sappimg.zip
2)put it on the goldcard
3)start in hboot mode (hold volume - together with power. '-' = volume decrease)

What do I do in the next step?

Sorry for the delay.
You now have eng spl = full control.
You need custom recovery: http://rapidshare.com/files/387932919/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
You need this radio: https://rapidshare.com/files/455782324/2.22.19.26I.img
You need fastboot commander: Get it from signature (v.1.1 and NOT magic)
You need this rom: http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/dream/update-cm-6.1.0-DS-signed.zip
You need gaps (google apps): http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/gapps/gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip
1)
Flash the radio and recovery from the fastboot commander tool.
Restart into recovery: Hold home and power together.
2)wipe everything you can find
3)flash the rom
4)flash the gapps
5)restart into the system
6)enjoy and take a rest... you have been working to long.
Good luck

Help: Flashed a bad radio and bricked my phone

SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32A SHIP S-ON G

I flashed the 2.22.23.02 through fastboot by mistake and now I can't get into recovery mode, or flash any other radios onto the phone. The fastboot menu is the only thing I can get to on the phone.
I tried reflashing the 2.22.23.02 again but it won't go through...
Anyone have any ideas on what I can do to unbrick it?
Edit: Tried sappimg.nbh via volume down and power button but i get a Model ID error. Now i can't fastboot anything over to my phone.
Edit: Flashed the sappimg.nbh, sappimg 2.16.707.3, sappimg 2.53.707.2, via gold card but I now get the error: Main Version is older!
I have answered similar questions before...
Use the search function.
But to get you started here is a quick solution.
1) flash eng spl that starts with 1.33.20XX where XX can be 05,09 or 10.
Restart into fastboot.
2) flash the right spl/radio/recovery combo.
This is confirmed to work....
Next time post ALL fastboot info... there are some info mission in your post!

I have just tried flashing hboot-1.33.2010 via fastboot.
However, I get the error message:
sending 'hboot' (512 KB)... FAILED (remote: not allow)
do this:
----- If you boot into fastboot and have issues with "fastboot:remote not allow", then your SPL won't work. Upgrade to Engineering SPL before continuing.
----- If you do not have an Engineering SPL, download 1.33.2010 and flash through recovery before starting this procedure. Flash the SPL update.zip like any other update.zip file.
in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239
Unfortunately... I can't boot into recovery either, nor can i push a recovery image to the phone. I get the same error: "fastboot:remote not allow".
ok... you are very limited...
Do this:
Find a suitable sappimg.nbh... Not sappimg.zip...
Use this which i just uploaded for you:
http://rapidshare.com/files/421772202/SAPPIMG.nbh
Using your goldcard flash the sappimg.nbh in fastboot.
The sappimg.nbh does not need any unzipping... it's a complete img of the nand and overwrites everything.
I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere....
is there a way to create a goldcard at this point for me?
I can't get into debug mode on the phone (for obvious reasons) and therefore can't do adb....
Find ANY android device and make a goldcard...
Then use the goldcard on your device...
wouldn't suppose anyone have the goldcard.img from their email that they could send me...
1)Download the -G magic RA recovery
2) rename it to recoveryG.img
3) run 'fastboot boot recoveryG.img' (with the phone in fastboot mode)
4) allow recovery to boot then run the following adb commands
Code:
adb push recoveryG.img /tmp/recoveryG.img
adb flash_image recovery /tmp/recoveryG.img
5) Now power down the phone
6) boot into recovery by holding home+power
10) flash 1.33.2009 or 1.33.2010
Now you will have fastboot again
Most likely you will want to find and flash via fastboot radio 3.22.20.17 if you are not a Rogers/Fido customer or have signed the e911 wavier, otherwise you want 3.22.26.17..
After flashing the 3.x radio flash RA -h recovery via fastboot (and while in fastboot run 'fastboot erase system -w'); this will let you flash the ebi1 rom of choice
I just downloaded the recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
renamed it so recoveryG.img.
When i try to run the command: fastboot boot recoveryG.img
I get the error message:
downloading 'boot.img'...FAILED (remote: not allow)
Then its best to just install the official e911 ruu from rogers and re-root
I have tried that, but it doesn't work...

EDIT: I think mum was on the right track. Your going to need a goldcard. No one will be able to send you their .img because its SD card specific. You don't know anyone with a Android based phone?

I also just tried 2.16.707.3 SAPPIMG.zip and I still get this error.

You should not get that error msg...
Try to remake the goldcard.
Did it on two different SD cards, the same way I did it before to get my phone off perfected SPL... not sure what I could've done to do it wrong this time around.....

Hi so I've been searching the forum for 2 days and tried i think is everything but still cant make my phone work..it can only access the fastboot mode now and if i turn on the phone i cant pass the "htc magic" splash screen. And yes i have a goldcard and tried to flash the engineering spl 2010 but it stuck at unzipping system part. I cant flash anything and when i input command it appears as
1.if i input "fastboot flash (partition) "xxxx"" it will show the "remote:verify INFOsignature fail" error
2. if i input "fastboot boot "xxxx"" then it will show the "remote: reproduce boot image with on-flash ramdisk error"
3. error with RUU: the RUU has the main version error

Help me master!
ps: and yea i would be glad to pay 20 usd if anyone help me to get this thing working again. ^^
you could try my posthttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831044
It wont work...
Actually i've tried the 3 official roms via RUU app already and i did get error with RUU as i said so now I just tried the 3 roms from tmobile which means the same as my phone's cid appeared as T-MOBO10 via my goldcard. The 2.10.531.4 and 2.11.531.3 ones failed with it saying" main version is older" and the 1.94.531.1 which extracted as a .nbh file failed at signature checking point. ah...yea, thanks a lot for helping me though.
Type this and post the outcome here:
Code:
fastboot getvar version-main
From there we can try to determine what to do!
main version
It says version-main: 2.16.707.3.
BTW my phone had stock 1.6
If you are getting main version older error it is possible that your goldcard has become ungolden. Try remaking your goldcard, put sappimg.img(found on the how to root MyTouch 1.2 thread) on the root of it, reboot holding volume down and boot and when in hboot screen hold trackball down until it finds sappimg.img and it shoudl update itself. Then reboot to fastboot and flash radio, hboot and recovery. Then reboot to recovery and flash the rom u want.
The goldcard will not let you update a sappimg.zip which has older system version then what you have now!!!
So it's not a faulty goldcard.
The solution:
There is a special sappimg.zip which has an eng spl and is signed by htc :0)
Luckily you have a system version which is lower :0)
If you flash that sappimg.zip you can then flash what ever you want and get the system back on track.
The zip is for the 32A device... but we just need the eng spl to flash the 1.2 device layout.
You game with that ?
I just helped somebody to regain their device using this approach...
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/11/how-to-root-the-mytouch-1-2-and-fender-mytouch/
The link above has all what you need.
Follow it to step 10. The rom they use in step 10 is outdated... Use this instead:
Rom: http://khsk.uberitz.net/cm/update-cm-6.0.0-DS-signed.zip
Gapps: http://cyanogenmod-mirror.local.host.name/gapps/gapps-mdpi-tiny-20101020-signed.zip
You should be good to go :0)
Remember, if you get problems post here... don't do something stupid and don't work in the dark...
KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING OR ASK FOR HELP :0)
uh...
So I do have questions:
I tried that page b4 and the sappimg.zip in step one does not work with freeze at unzipping system. And the stock spl, radio, &AR recovery simply don't work since they all cannot pass the INFOsignature check.
So should I simply skip to step 10 and flash the special sappimg.zip from you?
And how does that sappimg work with the gapp? I don't know how to use that gapp package...never used it b4. Oh that post mention the use of gapp on step 12...should i do step 10~12 then?
Thanks a million for helping. ^^
Edit: uh... wait a second. do you mean the special sappimg.zip is the sappimg in step1 from that post or is the special sappimg you mean is from your rom link?
continued
well i suppose theres no harm in trying to flash the cm 6.0 update rom via hboot...well the result is the phone back to defualt hboot screen after "checking sappimg.zip". Any suggestion?
Flash the sappimg.zip from the site. It has to work or you have a faulty goldcard.
Redo goldcard and reflash.
The links i provided is only ment to be flashed using custom recovery.
Sent from my SGS-I9000 using XDA App
goldcard
So now suppose i have a faulty goldcard and now i cant access the phone.
Should I format the sd card in windows in fat32 format and then paste my goldcard.img to the reformated sd card again?
PS: I haven't changed anything on my goldcard since the first time i successfully flashed the sappimg.zip the first time. but back then i was stupid and flashed the non-perfect spl one. now i cant flash any sappimg.zip anymore with this same sd card. But now yea i better try to redo it see if that helps.
Thanks.
Check your pm...
I have seen my goldcard change after i use it for some time..
So i have to redo it every time i was gona flash just to make sure!
But you redo yours anyway... it done properly, maybe for the last time :0)

[Q] Magic - Fastboot: FAILED (remote: not allowed)

Hi there,
I'd like to update to a newer Android Version. So as I read I have to flash a new recovery first. I tried to create a gold card in order to flash this new recovery but I still get an error when I use fastboot.
I read several tutorials and threads in this forum but i couldn't find the right answer. I hope someone can help me.

You said you have a Goldcard already, right?
Also, only do this if your Magic is a 32B. If it's a 32A, you're bricked for life (and I'm not responsible). It says on the fastboot screen which you are.
If it is a 32B, get the first download from the NBH/ZIP section of this thread <a href=http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548218>here</a> (Make sure to read the warnings at the top) and put it on your normal SD card.
Then, boot into HBOOT mode by either
1. Booting into Fastboot mode and pushing volume down.
2. Booting phone with volume down pressed.
It should find the sappimg after a minute. If not, make sure the sappimg is on the SD card not in any folders and also that it's named SAPPIMG.zip.
Choose yes to all the questions. If it has an error, reboot and try again or try it on a Goldcard.
Now fastboot should work and you can do whatever.

1.33.0013 is perfected SPL, remote commands are disabled in this hboot.
If you have custom recovery (AmonRa or Clockworkmod), then you are lucky.
If not, then you must install official ROM: 3.12.531.1 T-Mobile USA FRG83D
http://www.4shared.com/file/j64ygA9t/RUU_Sapphire_T-Mobile_US_31253.html
After that, you can root phone with SuperOneClick, then install custom recovery, and custom rom (via custom recovery)
I already rooted using superone click but my phone wont boot after I tried to flash a rom how do I get it to boot up and work again I'm freaking out oh an I have clockwork recorvery image that's how I tried to flash the rom but i dont have a goldcard can i still use the same method can u give me a walk through or is there a way using clockwork mod

Goldcard will only help if your error is related to the CID. If you have a branded phone (Rogers, for example) and you want to flash a ROM that is only meant for a different carrier (Vodafone, for example), the goldcard overrides the CID check and continues the process.
A checksum error could mean that the file has been altered.
Could you tell us exactly what information you see on your phone's FASTBOOT page? Model, HBOOT version, RADIO, S-ON/S-OFF, etc.

Okay, there at two issues to deal with first. You have a perfected SPL, 1.33.0014, and you are S-ON. The perfected SPL means that fastboot is crippled and won't let you do most things, and S-ON means it will only let you flash signed images.

*** This is one way to fix things, but I'm sure someone knows a better way. If someone knows a better way, please post ***
***
The first step is to unlock the bootloader. This will at least let you flash a custom recovery.
Go to HTC Dev and make an account. Once you've logged in, click on "Unlock Bootloader", then the "Get Started" button. You should be able to skip the RUU installation step, but, if you must do it, the file you want is at this link: SAPP10000 hboot 1.33.0014G. Follow the steps, send your ID token, receive the Unlock_code.bin, and flash it.
Once all of that is done, the bootloader should be unlocked (but still S-ON). You should now be able to flash a custom recovery using this guide: RA sapphire recovery. Scroll down to where it says "via fastboot". It says that is requires an ENG spl, but the unlocked bootloader should be enough. The file you want is: recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
If you get into the custom recovery alright, you can try updating to an engineering SPL using a signed zip file. Go to this thread and download "roottools". Open it up and get "hboot_2010_signed.zip". Put it in the root (not in a folder) of an sdcard, put the sdcard into your phone and boot into recovery. Look for an option to install a zip file from your sdcard.
If that doesn't work, try renaming the hboot_2010_signed.zip to SAPPIMG.zip, put it on the sdcard and boot into HBOOT mode (Volume Down + Power). It will scan the sdcard and try to install SAPPIMG.zip.
If all of that goes well, let us know.
1. i already go to htcdev used the 1.33.0014 spl and unlocked it. It says "*** UNLOCKED***"
2. i don't recovery, only fastboot
3. tried goldcard with sandisk and no sucess!

But did you actually try to flash a recovery image from fastboot?
Download this image: AmonRA 1.7.0G Recovery image
Put your phone into fastboot USB
Open a Command Prompt, cd to the recovery-RA-blahblah.img location, then type this:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img
Let us know if that works.
impossible, when i send a command, i receive a error message "remote: not allow"

Hmmm. Are you able to enter HBOOT mode? Turn the phone completely off (or pull the battery), then hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER until it says HBOOT.
Yes, i can enter hboot and fastboot

Alright. We can try downgrading with the RUU for your phone and a goldcard. Download the RUU exe file, run it, but don't use it to install. While it's open, go into C:\ Users \ Whateveryourusernameis \ AppData (may be hidden) \ Local \ Temp \ then look for the 2 newest folders in Temp. One of them will contain "dotnetinstaller.exe" and another folder. Go into the other folder and you'll find "rom.nbh".
Run: fastboot flash nbh rom.nbh
If it still doesn't work, try it in RUU mode: fastboot oem rebootRUU (and then use fastboot flash nbh rom.nbh)
If THAT doesn't work, put the rom.nbh on the root directory of your goldcard, rename it SAPPIMG.nbh, and boot into HBOOT mode. It should be autodetected.

BTW, if it gives you a "main version is older" error, we can fix that.
as soon i tested all the ways, i'll report to you! BIG THANKS to you! cheers!
Let's catch up: i have an sapphire 32B S-ON G, spl 1.33.0014 unlocked, radio 2.22.19.23
1. when i run RUU i get error "bootloader version"
2. all the things i do with fastboot, receive error "remote: not allow"
2.1 when use fastboot oem rebootRUU and then use fastboot flash nbh rom.nbh, received error "Failed (remote: 43 main version check fail)"
3. using sdcard SAPPIMG.nbh (from RUU):
3.1 Non goldcard: transcend 8GB "Main Version is older!"
3.2 Goldcard: kingston 4GB "Main Version is older!"
---------- Post added at 02:10 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:04 PM ----------
is there any tool to edit the edit NBH file and "fool" the phone?
I'll need to buy a 2gb kingston sdcard?
can i flash ruu hboot 1.76.0013 and try all the process?

HTC Magic - half bricked - RUU USB

Hello,
can anyone suggest how to recover HTC magic after flashing Rogers RUU official over custom rom.
ROM update was aborted on updating system partition.
Problem is that I can't upload any part of rom because phone is now S-ON. I'am getting signature error.
Flashed RUU: 42) [xda-ftp] [4shared] 3.54.631.3 Rogers Canada + [SAPPIMG.ZIP format]
ADB is no longer possible. Only FASTBOOT and RUU USB.
See attched photo for fastboot details.
Thanks in advance.

I went through a similar problem. My 32A was in the same state except for the radio; I had no system installed, S-ON, RUU mode, and a radio/spl mismatch. It looks like you at least have a proper radio/spl combo.
Before we do anything else, try flashing the RUU again. Were you using the ZIP file or the EXE? Use the ZIP, at least you won't have to load up that crappy HTC interface.
If the RUU fails again, see if you can find the log file from the installation. It'll be on your system's drive, probably in "C:\ruu_log" or something like that. It can tell us what error it found.
In my case, we (mumilover and I) had to upgrade HBOOT and "sort of unlock it" using HTCDEV's method. Then we were able to install a custom recovery, and then everything got very easy.
Let's see if the simple things work before we have to do the harder things
Thnak you very much for hint with HTCDEV. Now I have at least fastboot
RUU image allways fail at signature error. OI have tried three of them. Same error.
I have run RUU under fastboot usb.
Also I can't flash recovery image even I have successfully unlocked hboot with htcdev.
C:\ADB>fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.7-magic.img
sending 'recovery' (2642 KB)... OKAY [ 0.923s]
writing 'recovery'... FAILED (remote: not allow)
finished. total time: 0.926s
Any other idea ?

Could you give me the new details of the fastboot page? Your HBOOT version will have changed, and it will say "UNLOCKED" or "RELOCKED" at the top and S-ON. If it says "RELOCKED", try running the HTCDEV unlock command from fastboot again (you should still have the Unlock_code.bin file in your email) and then reboot.
Let's see how that goes.

I have attached Fastboot details.Status is: UNLOCKED.
But when I try to flash recovery I get an error message which I already wrote.
I think it is because of S-ON which is checking signature.

Sounds reasonable. I wish I kept better notes That way I wouldn't have to re-learn things every time.
I just want to make sure I understand the timeline of events:
You said you tried to flash an RUU over an existing custom ROM install, right?
What was the configuration of your phone before you tried the RUU and ran into trouble? If you were running a custom ROM, did you have a magic SPL or a custom recovery in order to install that custom ROM?
Anyway, on to the work:
Let's see if we can get an RUU to work now.
Go to the command prompt and run "fastboot getvar version-main" and let us know what it is, for future reference.
Once we know that, we can find a higher-numbered RUU from this list of Official RUUs.
I think I ended up using BrightStar Brazil, but anything higher than your phone's reported main version should work.
Have you made a goldcard? If you try to use an RUU and it complains about your CID, this will help.
Before you try to install an RUU, you will need to relock the bootloader using "fastboot oem lock" (you'll be able to unlock it again using the Unlock_token.bin)
Place the SAPPIMG.zip of the RUU in the root folder of your SD card and reboot into HBOOT (or reboot to fastboot and select HBOOT).
After a few seconds it should start scanning your SD card and then it will try to use the SAPPIMG.
Let us know.
Yes I had custom rom with s-off. But can't remeber which version.
Than I tried to install RUU: 42) [xda-ftp] [4shared] 3.54.631.3 Rogers Canada + [SAPPIMG.ZIP format]
Than I get error while flashing.
Strange thing is that I get this now:
C:\ADB>fastboot getvar version-main
version-main: 3.54.0.0
finished. total time: 0.001s
So it seems that I have lower version than I tried to install
I didn't try to use goldcard for now.
I have created Gold Card using this link: http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
I have to use another HTC phone (Wildfire) to get CID from HTC Magic SD card
I have tried to put 3.54.631.3 Rogers Canada rom as SAPPIMG.zip but HBOOT claims that there is no image.
I get: Loading...(SAPPIMG.zip) No image!
I forget to say that I have set HBOOT to RELOCKED state before using GOLD CARD and SAPPIMG.zip

1) Check the filename. Make sure it is "SAPPIMG.zip" exactly, with SAPPIMG in capital letters.
2) Run these fastboot commands and then switch back to HBOOT mode.
Code:
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot oem eraseconfig
This procedure has fixed SD card problems in the past.
3) Check the SD card using a computer or another phone to be sure that the file is on the card. I've had Windows unmount the card improperly a few times, so that's a possibility.
4) Compare a checksum of the original ZIP file to the checksum of the ZIP on your SD card. I use 7-Zip to get the checksum, but there are other ways.
5) You can download another copy of the SAPPIMG.zip file.
It also helps to wave a dead chicken over the phone as an offering to the phone god.
Unfortuntly can't get goldcard to work.
I have used 3 different SD card.
1. 2GB
2. 2GB
3. 1GB
Non of them works.
Also everything is fine in the process of creating them.
Problem is about loading to phone SAPPIMG.zip of 3.54.631.3 Rogers Canada rom.
Phone starts to Checking..(SAPPIMG.zip) and then after some period of time stops and waits to press:
1. (back) FastBoot Mode
2. (send) Simlock
I have try to start another flash but get the same result.
So it seems that the gold card is not working as it should because phone is still checking uploaded rom image.
Is there some SD card that works 100% ?
