[Q] Noob help please-Gapps issue/no Androit Marketplace - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have gone through the procedures to install cm7 and gapps. I get a successfull response saying cm7 was installed. I get a successful response saying gapps was installed. After that it's time to reboot my nook. I remove the sd card and reboot. Then I get an error: "install failed...please power off and back on to try again"
So I can boot up cm7 but there are no google apps. Nothing...not even a marketplace icon. I've reinstalled the sd items about 7 times with the same results. I have even reflashed my SD card with the both zip files and i get the same result.
Any help will be appreciated.

which gapps are you using? Some gapps aren't made for the Nook Color. I suggest using this link:

I downloaded that file then dragged and dropped it to my sd card. I put it in my nook and did format system, format data, format cache, then install cm7 from sd card, then installed gapps from sd card. Now the first few times I tried this earlier in the day, the gapps install took a few minutes at least. Now it takes less than 10 seconds which doesn't seem right. Anyhow, after the install I removed the sd card and did the wipe data/factory reset, and then rebooted. I got the same error this time too. "Install failed, please power off and back on to try again".
Is there another way to install gapps from an sd card so I can set up my google account and download stuff from the marketplace?

I successfully set up 2 Nook Color devices to run CM7 using this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
It includes instructions for GAPS installation. Just make sure you do the steps in order and it should work fine...

Don't do the wipe factory reset after installing. Your wiping what you just installed. Just reboot after. And gaps should only take a few seconds to install.

I was having the same issue as you this morning. I reflashed using this ROM: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/update-cm-7.0.2-encore-signed.zip
For some reason there is an issue with 7.0.3 and android market.

I am having the same problems, so should I install 7.1.0 rc and then try gapps? I have 7.0.3 installed now

Installing ROMs

I've tried installing roms 4 times, and each time the same thing happens:
Boot into Clockwork
Wipe everything
install zip from sd card
choose the one i want
choose yes
then the only things it does :finding update package and opening update package, and then, BOOM, back to recovery, lasted only 1 second.
then i reboot system and nothing has changed. i am really confused and quite frustrated, can anyone help or give me some tips?

Are you sure you're actually rooted? When you say "wipe everything" does that include cache/dalvik cache? If you wiped everything then rebooting the system shouldn't give the result "nothing has changed". Have you checked the MD5 of the ROM zip against the MD5 that it should "be"? If you can, boot into the phone and install terminal emulator and type "su" and tell me what it says...
i'm assuming you followed the steps in this tutorial to get rooted? did everything go as it was supposed to?
also, make sure when booting into recovery that you are not plugged in via usb.

Hah, yes, it is rooted. i put wipe everything to shorten the steps. I just installed terminal emulator, but when i typed "su" it just forms a new line with a #
am i doing something wrong now?
also, i realized that when i downloaded cm7, my computer (mac) unzipped the file, and then i rezipped before loading to sd card. if that doesn't make a difference then disregard this

Okay...well try downloading it straight to your SD card from your phone browser. Also, see post above yours regarding having your phone plugged into USB when you boot into clockwork. If you've been doing this with your phone plugged in, that is your problem right there.

Ok, so i am not plugged in when trying to do this, so thats not the problem. i downloaded CM7 to my sd card, and i followed the instructions to install it, and now it is stuck on Installing update... but its only been here for about a couple mins, so im not sure whether its frozen or it just takes a while to install.
Ok, so it finially loaded, and it said it was complete. but now, i reboot and it goes from the HTC screen to the android intro thing, where the blue android is riding on a skateboard, but it goes about 3/4 across the screen then freezes, and a few seconds later restarts, but keeps doing the same thing over and over again. what should i do now?
Sounds like you are trying to flash a CM7 nightly without formatting system. In addition to wiping data, cache partition, Dalvik, you should go into Partitions menu from Clockwork Recovery and choose format system.
That was a wrinkle that tripped up many including myself when trying out the CM7 nightlies. After you have CM7 running, you don't have to format system again. ie. you can flash a more recent nightly just by clearing both caches.

hah, yes, that was exactly the problem. i figured it out tho. thanks, but now with cm7 i don't have Market, and i can't sync my google account to my phone. any suggestions?
Yea download the gapps package for 2.3 and flash it just like you ddid the rom minus wiping data and caches. That's if you're on CM7. Check the development section

cm9 black screen

Hey guys, I previously had cm7 installed and just now tried to install cm9. I have cwm 3.2.0.1 on my sdcard.
Here's what I've been doing to install
-boot into cwm
-format data and system
-install cm9.zip
-install gapps.zip
When I reboot the nook it gets to cyanoboot, the screen flickers, and then turns black until I restart it. I've tried using the opengl build and the other one with no luck. Any ideas? Any steps I'm missing?

Your problem was you formatted system. The new nightly has a bug in the install script where it fails if you wipe system first. Solution is to flash either a CM7 or pre-3/10 CM9 ROM first then immediately reflash the new CM9 without wiping anything first or even booting in between.

Can't get rid of previous CM7 on nook color

Here's the situation
I bought a rooted nook color ( bnrv200) which has a version of CM7 on it already.
I want to erase the current version and load a completely fresh install myself ( my first time by the way.)
I followed this video to the letter and had no problems with the process youtube com/watch?v=88qRbLLEAPQ[/url] all seems to go well.
Here is the process if you don't want to watch the vid:
put Clockworkmod 4g_clockwork-3.0.2.8 img on SD card
put CM7.2 zip on sd card
put google apps gapps-gb-20110307-signed on sd card
put sd card in nook color boot
format system/data/cache.
install CM7 from sd card all goes fine
install gapps from sd card all goes fine
choose "reboot system now"
reboots to OLD install !!!
BUT when I reboot the OLD install is still there. I have formatted everything possible and have no idea what I am doing wrong??

You are probably using too old of a CWM. The older versions do not wipe the newer nooks properly. You can get the latest CWM on my tips thread linked in my signature. Also you can wipe completely by flashing my format partitions 5, 6, and 7 zip. Then you can flash the new CM7.2 zip with the new CWM.

You can grab the CWM install from this site:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013/...lor-22dec2013/
it will be version 6.0.4.5
or direct link to download is http://www.mediafire.com/download/7g...5_internal.zip
I
Ok, I've been modding Nook Colors and Nook HDs with y'alls awesome help for several years but I'm finally stumped.
I am used to flashing a CWM image to an SD Card then flashing CWM, CM and gapps from the SD card to emmc (after wiping data/factory reset).
However, I do not seem to be able to find a CWM image for the Nook Color (Nook HD, yes. Nook Color, no).
So, I did a dirty flash of "cwm-6.0.4.7-Jan31-encore-signed" and re-booted and all was well. Then I flashed "cm-11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-encore" and "gapps-kk-20140105-signed" and re-booted. All is wonderful...except I get "Unfortunately, Trebuchet has stopped".
I re-booted a couple of times, let the Nook Color bake a few hours, and re-booted a few more times to no avail.
Searching threads I see a comment that Trebuchet does not play nice with Nook Color and KitKat.
So, I have no launcher and can't get to the Play Store (or any apps). Also, Windows Explorer on my W7 computer doesn't see my Nook Color but when I open a command prompt I see the Nook Color when running 'adb devices'.
Next I thought to go to the nightlies and I flashed "cm-11-20140308-NIGHTLY-encore" with fingers-crossed this issue had been addressed. But still Trebuchet has stopped.
Everything I've read said I need to use the cwm-6.0.4.x, to flash KitKat but all I have are 3.2.x.x encore images. So, I can get back to CM 10.x.x and repeat the process again, but I think I need to do a wipe data/factory reset. However, if I do, won't that blow away cwm-6.0.4.7 I have on emmc resulting in me being unable to flash CM and gapps from my SD card?
I guess my question is can I 'wipe data/factory reset' from cwm on emmc and still flash CM and gapps from an external SD Card? It doesn't seem logical to me as the factory reset will wipe my cwm on emmc, correct?
Or, is there a link to a zipped .img file I can flash to a SD Card?

No, if cwm is flashed to the emmc partition, then doing a factory reset will not erase the recovery. From my experience, i had to install cm 10.2 then reflash cm 11 nightly.. I did a bad flash with the wrong GAPPS package and that was the only way to get rid of the botched install.
So i recommend
1.) download cm 10.1 or cm 10.2
2.) wipe factory/data reset
3.) install cm 10.1 or cm 10.2
4.) wipe again
5.) install cm 11 nightly

[Help!] Can't flash custom ROM because..

I flashed "Resurection Remix" but it's stuck first time booting. I've left it for up to 20 minutes and it hasn't done anything then I had problems getting in to recovery but I managed to get in to recovery but then Windows stopped picking up the storage on the Redmi 2 so I can't get the rom on to the Redmi 2.
I then tried to "adb sideload" but no matter what driver I use, it says "you need adb 1.0.32 or newer to sideload this device" so i'm stuck yet again.
The Redmi 2 only appears in Device Manager when it's in "fastboot" mode and I currently have the latest drivers from Android SDK.
This isn't really my strong point in technology so i'm highly confused as to what to do, does anyone know how to help. Please.

This thing also happened with me. Resurrection remix got bootloop on my phone. But there is no thing to worry about. Follow these steps :
1) Download CM 13 (latest emfox build) and micro arm 6.0 gapps from opengapps.
2) Place them in the external SD card.
3) Boot into recovery, Mount ext SD card.
4) Clear data, cache &dalvik cache.
5) Flash ROM then gapps.
6) Reboot, done.
PM me if something goes wrong.

I've managed to fix it and flash "Resurrection Remix" without the boot problem although I keep getting "Setup Wizard has stopped" and "Google Play services has stopped" even though i've tried 2-3 different gapps and reflashing remix.
Any ideas?

Give all permissions to all the google apps. This is marshmallow & you need to grant permissions to every app.
