This is what happened to my device after failing to handle it while taking out of my pocket. It fell on a road T_T

Carrying a streak in the pocket without any protection is bold...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
For two months until I got my Otterbox Commuter the only protection my Streak had was the microfiber slipcase. Maybe it's simply me, but I find that the Streak is easier to handle with the Otterbox on it.

Yes, it has a good grip with the Otterbox. A such big device like the Streak is really difficult to let it fall from the hands...unless with small phones which are easier to slip when using/handling.
then, this is for you:
but seriously.. if that was be, I would be near tears.
I hope you're able to get a new one
I have been lucky so far...8 months no case, 45 days of skiing with it in my backpack, 2 drops to kitchen floor, no damage. But threads like this make me scared. Hope you can get a replacement.
feel so bad for this and scare bout my streak
Sorry for your loss.
Don't despair though, it's a really easy and inexpensive fix now. $45USD and about 1-2 hrs of your time. Detailed instructions with pictures at xda, modaco, pocketables forum. Do a search. Your Streak will be good as new. No restore, flashing needed.
Good Luck
kraz
What is so bad about getting a case? I'll never understand those that take one of the most delicate pieces of machinery ever created and carry it around like a set of car keys. I don't even care about the cost to fix, I'd hate to be without a phone for any amount of time (it is my business phone).

Are you trying to unsult me even more after losing my lovely phone..? T_T
TBH, I'd tell you to go to hell, but there's no Flame Hall around. Anyway, it looks like it does on a photo. I can make a few more from some other angles, but I don't care whether you believe me or not. Just feel free to find a lovely piece of asphalt to throw your Dell on it and dispel your doubts.

That's what my streak looked like two months ago. Then got a replacement through dell for $250. It cost me half the price of a new phone to get refurbished one. Its so sad dell charges us so much to get a refurbished one.

Hows your refurb? Did it get shipped with 2.2 build 14844?
Its good. The rom is sluggish but it's durable. And no it shipped with 2.2.2 build 145 I believe if I'm not mistaken.

Was curious, I just purchased a second streak for a second line. It came with 2.2 ( 14844) which is what my first streak was before I hit that update triangle and now is 15967.
The new streak runs very fast, sound is louder and crisper than my updated streak. The new is just like my orig was before 15967. Both have the same apps installed.....
Yep rolling the orig back to 14844
I'm going to order a replacement kit for Streak via eBay and fix my device as soon as the parts are delivered. However, there might be a retail service problem if I fail while repairing.
Buy a replacement screen for about $45 and you're set. I am not very handy with tools and I was able to do it in a couple of hours. After having done this, I could do it in about 30 mins or maybe less. The key is to follow directions carefully. I had multiple windows open in my browser to go back and forth from the videos to the PDF directions. My set came with tools by the way. Anyway, good luck and let us know how it turns out. This forum is great for doing things like that and you can always count on someone to help you if you run into a speed bump during the process.

I'm pretty happy that I managed to sell my HTC Tattoo, but maybe there are phone models which can't be sold anymore because they are not valuable anymore...

Selling my Htc magic hehe to a guy that was honest with me that he wants to buy them to fix and re-sell them (doesn't care about condition), and a good price too of 235$ canadian.
unless I can find higher i'll sell to him.

The store I ordered it buys the old phones
As I do with all my old phones, give it one of the nursing staff who need it better than I.
EDITED:
Forgot to say, it's an HD2
The phone i'm currently using is having its last breath and i don't know how it's working right now :\
Plus its company had a bankrupcy so even if i tried to donate it ,it'll be thrown back at my face ... guss what is it ?!
Its name is O2 Atom Life , i had Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 before but it died in front of my eyes so i went back to the mentioned device >_>
When i buy Galaxy S i want to do something with my O2 that'll makes me feel good and right now the only idea i'm having is throwing it from a high place
Gonna try to sell my bricked G1 on ebay. Hopefully someone would need parts when I do.
Giving mine to the GF, its the HTC Desire, which I still like immensely and want to keep around to play with when it gets Froyo etc

In that case.........
So very, very mad at my G1. A trip to the desert with my 12 gauge will set things right!
Use it as my drunk phone when I'm out and drinking.
Or maybe I just use my even older W850i for that.
X1 wasn't really cheap when it come out and I dont know if I want to lost it when I'm drunk.
It's still awesome phone.
Ill send in my nexus one to google to get it replaced for minor cosmetic damage. Then i'll either sell it, give it to the wife (which is unlikely since she drops and loses all the gadgets i give her) or put it in the draw on top of my Xperia X1i.

Dont even make me bring up umbrellas ... The loss of my umbrellas brings a tear to my eye ... they were not just regular umbrellas they were art.
A week later after she had borrowed my umbrella ... "Hey babe do you know where my umbrella is ..." She replies ... "Oh, yea, I forgot it in the train, im sorry. Can i borrow this other one its pouring outside?"
At that point I just have to give up and give in. It is a helpless cause ... what did i get myself into.
I can't give my old one to the misses, she already wants a Galaxy S too, and being Korean she thinks she's more entitled to the first one!
I'll probably put a stock ROM back on my HD and offer it up on FreeCycle.
I'll keep my touchpro and drop the sim in it when I'm out on the water. That way if my phone goes swimming at least it's not the galaxy.

What's the story?
Sent From My HTC Evo Using Tapatalk Pro!
a pictures worth a thousand words .
phone fell off seat in movie theater, like 2 feet from ground..
was it naked?
I cried a little inside when I saw this picture..
without a case ? ya
sorry.
I hate how badly HTC tempers some of their phones [screen that is]
I remember when I got my first TP2, broke screen on first drop... I had a replacement,... That I still have... I treat it like trash! And lemme tell you this thing is sturdy. My Evo... Has been abused, dropped, fell straight on the curb of the sidewalk (right onto the raised part and onto the floor). Only visible thing is a tiny dot of glass that chipped off the lower bottom right.. This one is sturdy as hell too...
this was my first time dropping the phone, I only had it for about two weeks.
The screen is like scratch proof but not shatter proof, it should be the other way around at least (hopefully both). I tried using my keys to scratch out a hole in the glass so i could take it out and see if i could get a replacement glass but the keys wouldnt even scratch as hard as i tried
i died a little inside when i saw that picture. if that happened to my phone...i would probably cry
Dang that really sux. I was so scared when I dropped my Evo at work from a height of 30 ft and lucky for me I just had sum dirt in the kick stand but that was the day I added insurance on my bill. I'm sure if u have insurance they will give u a new screen as there was a time with my instinct I broke the screen 3 times in a month and Sprint fixed it no questions asked

@ the PIC why put a 500$ phone on a sent and EVEN take the chance of it falling ?
That sucks man . Well if you don't have insurance, they sell replacement touch screen digitizers on eBay. Not sure how easy it is to replace.
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Sprint-Evo-...862017?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4152abc101
I have no affiliation to that seller, just looked up the cheapest one that wasn't out of the country.
Looks like some guys just put up a repair video too and it doesn't look too difficult, but I'd be scared to do it myself lol.
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-evo-4g-glass-touch-screen-digtizer-lcd-repair-guide.html
Most sprint repair stores are stocking glass/screen replacements. Just go down there and get it fixed, generally they can do them in 15-20 minutes
actually im within the first 30 days, so im taking the phone back to a store and swapping it for a brand new one. which seems like a great deal to me.
if you are rooted you will probably have to unroot... but you already knew that
I just flashed back to the stock rom i found in the evo wiki, that should be good correct ?

You should be good with that. In my experience I've had no trouble taking rooted devices in to them. I always make sure at the very least it appears stock when they power it up.
I called them and they are the ones that suggested i just return it and get a new one since it's within thirty days. I called the store too, not sprint (sometimes they like to contradict each other).
Howdo, dropped my phone last night whilst hammered and smashed the gorilla glass. Phone works fine underneath. On o2 but dont have insurance with them. I've got it with me bank but last time I tried to claim on that with my old htc it was a bit of a ballache. Dont really want to have to go 3 weeks without me phone so wondered if there is any other option. If you have been in same position and managed to sort anything out then I'd love to hear from you. Also if I do have to send it back will I need to down grade it back to stock 2.1 rom? I dont mind paying a bit if it means I can get a new screen/phone sorted this week...ta

Hi, Well I bought my phone outright from 02 with no insurance, dropped it from pocket height and screen smashed also.
Took it into 02 and they sent it away to be repaired, got a brand new replacement 7 days later and didn't cost me a penny!
Someone else on this forum had the exact same thing happen to them so its worth asking them to fix it.
and FYI they will contact you to tell you how much repair would cost before they went ahead fixing it. so if that did happen and you weren't happy with what they quoted you then you can ask them to send you it back unrepaired.
Dell are doing it for me free of charge

I'm with Rogers here in Canada and hated the fact that AT&T was on the battery cover so I did a little experiment and it worked.
1) Get a Penny
2) Using the Penny slowly scratch off the AT&T Logo and make sure you don't press that hard.
3) Wipe your phone battery cover and now it is debranded and the AT&T Logo is Gone and you're phone is scratch free.
*** Use at your own risk I did it on my Atrix and it's perfect but I take no responsibility and I can't guarantee it won't damage your phone ***
how about a picture?
Can't you just use sugar? That's the safe way, because the sugar breaks down as you go. Saw it on Lifehacker, but here's the direct link:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-remove-Logos-from-your-PDA--cell-phone-wit/
Kind of silly how easy that was... I tried a few things and it seems like the penny idea is the best so far. Have some patience. It eventually "catches" on the ink a bit and once part of it comes off, it's a lot easier to get off. I was able to get it off with my fingernail once I got it chipped a little.
I did the AT&T, HD Video and moto logo. Posting pics in a minute. Camera battery is dead.
Edit: ^ I can't speak for everyone, but I don't have sugar cubes sitting around. Even if I did, the prep for that method would take as long as this did. It's really up to the owner to choose, but having just tried the method described in this thread, I'd have to say there's not reason not to just grab a coin and start rubbing. The hardest part was getting up off my couch to grab a penny lol.

And just so people don't freak out when they try this: Not sure about the OP, but you can barely see where the logos used to be from certain angles in the right lighting. Your point? I think most people like debranded phones, especially the types who will be buying atrix's in 6-9 months for 400 or so bucks, which I think is the amount of time folks who debrand on this forum will have the phone.

It's a small thing that makes it look cleaner in my opinion. I'd imagine I can just buy a new cover by the time I might be looking at selling my phone. As mentioned, it might not even be an issue that a buyer would care about anyways.
ahha WOW THANKS OP!
i'm waiting for my AT&T Atrix in the mail right now but i was wondering the EXACT SAME THING for the longessst time!
i personally hate branded phones, and i was gonna see if Motorola sold battery covers on their site just to get an "unbranded" cover, but i will DEF try this penny trick once i get my Atrix
I'm also curious if Bell Canada will release with the Bell branded logo on the cover...
it's coming out next week

Bells phones are never branded and when their phone comes out it will be $599 plus taxes, I paid a little less than that plus I got one now. To be honest I haven't used mine yet I'm still waiting on the unlock code so its just sitting in my closet.

If you are willing to test it, with no warranty asserted by me, try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on what little bit it left. After peeling off the 100+ letters that comprised the name/location of the shady dealer where I bought my car, a few light passes of the eraser removed the faint outline that remained of the letters.
holy crap. that was the easiest case mod I've ever done on a phone. I literally did it in 30sec with the rounded back of my key. My old windows phones (SMT5600 particularly) had their logos on much harder than this thing
seriously i think i love my phone a lot more than before after this
I love my att logo as well as the Motorola logo. Both companies have done good things so far.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Yep , I just did my mod to my atrix ... I love my pretty much unbranded N1 and now I have my atrix right there with it. Left just the moto label and removed all else and the blur added piece.
Did it with a dull key, looks great. No more AT&T, MOTO BLUR, HD Video, or on button logos!
So I got my phone today and low and behold I have some serious (at least to me) blemishes and scratches on the back. Some pics below. I know they may not seem too bad but come on, this is a brand new phone, and unexceptable if you ask me. So I actually go to my nearby ATT store to see if they have stock already so they can swap it out and they don't have any yet. You could see it in the eyes of the workers that they hadn't seen one yet. Borderline oogling over it.
Anyways, they say call ATT and they'll send me another. I call and low and behold they CAN send me a replacement (not overnight mind you, I'd have to pay for that), but as I had to remind them, there is a backorder for it so they couldn't tell me when I'd get it. All this time I wouldn't be able to activate the phone. I say screw it, I'll keep it but you gotta give me something here. All they can do open a customer credit report and see if it goes through. Suffice it to say.....I'm pissed.

Yeah this is a total case of WTF. Must have happened in the flashing process when they added all their carrier crap.
Wow. Was it shipped in bag full of rocks?
Thats how mine is from GPlay! Not as bad as yours but the same type of marks.... Seems like it was slid around and there was a bunch of dust/debris in the box on the phone.. I called them up right after I saw and they were gonna set me up with a new replacement but there is a problem with there system with that apparently...:roll eyes: So I have to wait for them to fix that then get in contact with me to set up the replacement... Im using this one in a case in the mean time but it definitely shouldn't fly to get one that looks this way!
Looks like someone was skate boarding on it before shipping. Lol I would return it. There is no fu#king way I pay over $700 for a screwed up phone.

Hahaha this comment had me rollin as well. Sorry about your phone OP. Hopefully they give you some type of credit or something.
That valiant phone fought tooth and nail and tried to resist being tramp stamped. In the end the handset torturers won

Probably happened while they were tattooing that sweetass globe on the bottom. Well worth the sacrifice, IMO.

How is that AT&T's fault? Lol.
"A Lenovo company..."
I would try blast them Motorola and ATT on social media. No way you fork over that much cash money for A defectove unit. I also suggest you QC the camera carefully. It may have got the lense.
Motorola QC issue.
I was at my tmobile store when they unboxed their demo unit and it had the same nonsense. We considered that maybe they just purposely sent the ****ty ones to stores for demo purposes. Hope this is not a widespread issue
That's what you get for purchasing a phone from the devil.

They would have touched it last when flashing their splash screenand doing the logo on the back. But a previous commenter said his gplay device was the same. I would look at how the phone fits in the retail packaging. Does it have room to move around at all, is what i would be looking at.

I think it has some room to move because there doesn't seem to be anything keeping it in place or anything protective it has to sit on. Its just sitting on indent of the phone with the documentation. I think it happened during shipping possibly especially if it was man handled it could bounce around and scuff up but idk? i don't see how sliding on cardboard could cause marks like that.
Im also still waiting on Gplay to reply and fix there system to get me a new replacement...
Did you have any issues getting AT&T to initiate the return? This is ridiculous, mine has this too.

AT&T wouldn't have done it themselves, just semantically speaking.
They would have made a deal with the OEM (Motorola) to make the modifications on their behalf before packaging.
Not defending AT&T or anything, of course.
