I am using the Synergy RC1 rom . It comes with a2sd already built in. I have an 1024mb ext3 partition setup on my SD card. My SD card is a class 8 and I have used with success on other roms that supported a2sd. I repartitioned the card and cleared all caches multiple times before flashing the ROM. When I use Quick System Info it shows me how much space I have left on my ext3 partition so I know it is there and readable. The davlik cache is stored on the SD card by default with this particular iteration of a2sd (it is based off of CyanogenMod)
The problem that within a few hours of flashing the rom and installing a couple of apps (I have installed different apps each time so it is not a particular app that cause this) all of a sudden my internal storage starts dropping on its own. No more apps were installed, but every couple of minutes when I check there is less and less internal storage available. The memory drops even when the phone is not in use. I was doing some stuff on my phone and when I put it down it had 260mb free. I pick it up 10 minutes later and it is down to 118mb. I do not understand why this is happening. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.
Earlier today on the Synergy thread it was said that using a 2 gig EXT3 should work better, than the 1 gig most of are used to using. I know I'm going to reformat mine tomorrow and repartition it to see if I can get this going.
Worked perfectly on MikG, but I guess Synergy just puts more into internal memory.
Also, you did use the Synergy Updater to flash A2SD, right?? Because flashing the DT Zip file could cause problems, I hear....
Thanks for the reply.
I still had space in my ext3 partition. About 640mb I believe. I will reformat and reflash to see if a 2gig partition will help. I did not download and install the DT a2sd mod. I have used the built in a2sd in myn's roms for a while without issue. Should I use DT's instead?
Nope. seems that in Synergy, A2SD is not built in, but in the Synergy updater, you can flash a version that was created FOR synergy. Now, when you do this, it doesn't format your card, it only assigns the partitions.
On MikG, with DT A2SD built in, using my 64MB Swap and 1 gig EXT 3, I'd have over 300MB free internal storage.
With Synergy, same partitions, using the flashable A2SD, I only have 124MB free internal, my apps ARE on the SD Card, but when I try to enable swap (Terminal SU, A2SD Reswap) it fails to start Swap.
I think it was DougJamal that told me to try and reset my EXT to 2 gigs
I see. I was under the impression from the OP that a2sd was built in. I saw my ext3 partition being used as I installed apps. Everything was working I believe. When I first flashed the rom I had 386mb of free internal storage.

DT's works good for me. running MIUI.1.6.24
Yes, DT's is great, but apparently, there's a script that conflicts with Synergy, so I was told to use the flashable in he Synergy Updater.
It's DT, but it's got a mod that works better with the ROM, and believe me, that was a very layman's way to describe it
I was out so I could not repartition and reinstall the rom using the 2 gig partition, but I had repartitioned and reinstalled just before I left my last response and it has happened again. I looked at my phone a couple hours aftr install and internal storage went from 354mb to 177mb. I looked at it 10 minutes later and it was down to 54mb. By the time I reached home I was getting a low memory warning and 511kb free. This is weird.
I did a full wipe and everything. I have never experienced this on any ROM and I have used a2sd on almost all of them. I have read that there was a issue with the GB release updates that caused the phone to incorrectly report free internal storage space. Maybe this is the cause of this, but I have reinstalled the ROM like 3 times and redownloaded the ROM each time.

Yeah, I ran /system/bin/ a2sd reinstall which re processed all my apps but when I ran a2sd reswap, it failed again and my memory is wicked low.
I DO still need to reformat and redo my ext3 partition, but I'm not feeling too confident.

I knew this time would come....
I've got too many apps on my phone and Im running low on space, and I've noticed my phone has been dragging lately.
I have an 8GB class 6 SD card, so hopefully speed shouldnt be an issue.
I have yet to use A2SD...
If I partition my drive, do I lose everything that's on there? Obviously that's not a problem as I can just move everything over to my computer then copy it back, but if I can leave the data on there and partition that'd be great.
Im having a hard time finding a step by step "from day one" guide.
Mind pointing me in the right direction? The only thing Ive found in the wiki is moving to a new SD card with A2SD.
Im currently running DC 2.07.2
BACK UP SDCARD
Boot into recovery. Partition SD card (default values)
Download http://www.darktremor.com/files/misc/a2sd-2.5-signed.zip
Flash above .zip as any normal ROM
Boot phone
Open command prompt and type:
adb shell
a2sd install
Tada.
Ok great, got that part down.
Now moving the already installed apps over to the SD card? What else do I do from here?
Thank you for the help!
Actually, looks like everything went ok...
ls -l /data reveals all the locations as /system/sd/app
I didn't bother to look at free internal space before installing, but my interanal free storage is now at 130MB. Sound right?
Last question i have for now....
Now that all my apps are on the SD card, if I were to flash a new ROM (say a new ROM Flipz comes out with) that has A2SD support... I dont' have to re-install them as both the apks, odex, and dalvik are all stored on the SD card right?

The only version that I'm aware of that moves Dalvik-cache to the sd card is Apps2SD version 2.5. I don't know if anyone has that in the ROMs yet. Many of them are either using an Apps2SD that was built for Fresh 2.0d, Apps2SD version 2.0, or the Apps2SD which is common in the 1.5 builds.
Your apps in /data/app and /data/app-private are on the sd card. You can flash Apps2SD version 2.5 (A2SD) from http://www.darktremor.com/files/misc/a2sd-2.5-signed.zip if you want to move the dalvik-cache.
EDIT: I really should read the instructions that was posted before I stick my foot in my mouth. The file is the one located at Darktremor, which is the version 2.5...so, yes...your dalvik-cache is on the sd card.
So I tried the above method, but all my apps stopped working and when I go to reinstall them, it says "Insufficient Space for App"...
What did I do wrong?
EDIT: Okay, nevermind, it seems to be working now. I tried installing the app again and it installed fine the second time. Trying another one now.
I did this recently and just found out that I cannot install/download apps from the market, it just gets stuck there. Does it know where its downloading too after a2sd is installed?
now i m confused.. wich lagfix is better? in quadrant all the fix do then the 2000...
Your choice. Do you want to repartition the sd card and fiddle in cmd, or just double click a file?
The problem with the first fix is that you cant replace the card any time you want. The problem with the second fix is that if you dont have 1gb free on the phone, it wont work
Second one looks like a much better deal.
If you don't have 500mb free on your internal SC card (correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think it's 1gb), you can always move all your personal stuff in the external SD card.
Unless of course you have filled it up with apps only (with no app2sd with Eclair), but how you would have managed to fill almost 2gb of apps is beyond me. That'd be more than 2000 apps.
What I don't know though is the long term effects. I have no idea if the fixes that are made are bad for the internal SD card. I guess you have to trust Ryan.

what do you mean about second choise lagfix 2.0??
2.0 caused my phone to be unstable so I re-flashed and went back to the first (1GB) fix.
Are you considering mimocam's fix (using the external card) or just between Ryan and Chanfire's fixes?

Yeah, I was talking about Ryan's Lagfix 2.3. (it's not 2.0 anymore).
I don't use either. I recommend the original fix that moves data to dbdata. I have over 70 apps installed and still plenty of space left. Using autokiller to keep free memory at 70 meg I have no lag. Currently on jm5.

I first did it by command line with the 1Gb partition. That ran well. I then updated to Ryans 2.2 which I have been using all day. It also runs really well. Lag pretty much gone.
If i apply the one-click-LagFix it makes an virtual ext2 partition to my internal sd-card. So if i choose sometime later to undo the fix how can i delete the ext2 partition in my internal sd-card? Will it be necessary to use gparted or similar?

Just run the included unlagfixme.bat file. It's automated. But make sure you are running the unlagfixme for the correct version (2-2 or 2-3)
It works fine. I ran unlagfixme and flashed back to a stock ROM, tested with Quadrant and got the 900 something score again, so it does remove the lagfix.
I will note, however, that it's a very good idea to run the unlagfixme.bat before flashing to a different ROM.

If you are flashing to any rom using odin3, there is no need to do the unlagfix at all, because the flashing would have overwritten any changes that you have made to the file system.
I often flashed my device alredy with repartition but it didnt touched my internal sd, cause my photos which are stored in the internal sd were still there after flashing. So will a firmware-flash through odin really delete the virtual ext2 partition?

The LagFix does not partition your internal card. A 1gb file is created upon which the ext2 filesystem is made. Then this file is mounted as a loopback device. So the UnLagFix basically moves the data back to the native internal storage directories and deletes the ext2 file, so no need to use gparted
I am trying to salvage my internal memory on my Aria with S2E. I am able to select the "Download cache" checkbox, but "Applications", "Private apps", and "Dalvik cache" are all greyed out (can't select them).
I am really only worried about moving Dalvik to my SD card, but have no idea why it is greyed out.
When I load S2E, I get the following message "S2E has been granted superuser permissions", so I think it isn't a permissions issue.
Any thoughts?
Do you gave the latest version of s2e? Because the latest update fixed that for me. Also make sure you have a big enough ext3 partion. I'm running a 200mb ext3 partion and have tons of space now. I even have dalvik on the partion to.

I don't think rom manger will do that correctly. I used gparted live CD. Google about it. It was pretty simple.

Rom Manager will definitely work. I originally used Rom Manager to partition my ext3 partition. But it has a size limitiation (512MB?). Anything bigger than that will require gparted (or another partition manager via ubuntu)
how long ago did you use ROM manager to make an ext3 partition? I was just partitioning my SD card a couple days ago for s2e and ROM manager didn't give any options for what ext type to make. just asked for partition size, swap size and automatically set up an ext2 partition.

Im not sure how long ago I used it. The very first time I used Rom Manager to parition it gave me an ext2 parition. But the most recent time I used it, it just automatically set up a ext3 partition.
Thanks to the collective. I used Gparted, to make a 1024MB Ext3 partition, and S2E works like a charm now.
I tried to do an Ext4 partition first, but it was pointed out that isn't supported by S2E...that clue saved me a ton of time, as did the Gparted Live CD tip.
My phone is back to where it was, and I went from having 25MB free internally, to over 150MB...I have needed this for a LONG TIME!
Thanks!
For those of you using S2E, have you noticed whether moving apps and/or dalvik cache to the SD card slows the phone down at all? Just wondering.
My phone can reboot under 2 minutes being that I moved cache and dalvik to partition. Its a snappy little aria.

I use a kingston Class 6 8gig card with apps and dalvik on sd using s2e, ext 3 with 512Mb (Used Rom Manager). First time boot after flashing always take a little longer. other than that every other boot after that is just like normal, have not noticed any ill performance issues. Been using for more than a month now.
I see no differences in performance.

Moving apps to the sd-card does slow the phone down if you use class 2 card which is generally bundled by the device manufacturer. For use with S2E a class 4 sd-card is required minimum. The ones who have higher class sd cards like 8 or 10, you should move apps. You should see a performance jump.
For normal sdcard users (2 or 4), I will not recommend moving applications and private apps, just move dalvik cache and download cache. should give you enough internal space without hampering on performance.
For partitioning the sd card use mini tool and partition it on the PC (see attached image). make sure you make a fat32 1st, 2nd ext2 & 3rd Linux swap. Thats the only way it works. Also dont forget to select 'Mount as Ext4' in S2E Settings. Best of luck.

Hi.
I used s2e script to free some space on my desire ( CM7 ) , but i'm having some problems. I'm using a new HP 16GB class 10 sd card (write speed 11.2 , reading speed 30.9). First I moved everything in my 2gb ext3 , but I was having force close issues for many apps and I was unable to move apps to the fat32 partition thrugh app2sd app (not enought space). So I moved /data back to /data and these 2 problems were resolved. But I'm facing a new problem now. When I'm having a call and I take the phone away from my ear, most of the times the screen doesnt turn on until the other person hangs up (even if i press the power button). How can I resolve this? Also can I move /data back to ext3 , without having the problems I mentioned before?
Thanx in advance

Could be a lot of reasons. Highly possible that there are too many active apps leaving very little RAM. Have you checked how much RAM is being used?
I use a nifty widget called 'Go TaskManager Widget'. http://bit.ly/wRV7xI ... use it if you are using GO Launcher.

Don't move your /data partition to sd-ext. Move Dalvik cache first, and if you need more space, then move your applications as well. If you still need more space, then you're doing something wrong.

CWM 5.0.2.3, as made available in these forums by attn1, also works for partitioning SD cards. I never got gparted to work right with my card, for some reason. But the "Partition SD Card" option in CWM did it right nice.
My Aria's not telling me that it's out of memory anymore. And that's good news.
I have not installed any apps to my phones internel memory. I use titanium to move all apps except for keyboad, live wallpapers, widgets to the phone sdcard. 2 days ago I had 213mb of internel memory, now I am at 103mb of internel mrmory and I have no idea why. I tried deleting dalvik cache (dont think there is a way to move dalvik to sdcard with stock rom/kernel) and it didnt change much. Does anyone have any ideas where the memory leak is or what apps that even though are installed to the sdcard may be using up internel memory? Thank you
Saw the Dalvik2Cache.zip and that didnt do much, then saw the Dalvik_Hack under page 3 of the same thread and that seems to have made a lot more internel memory, I will keep an eye out on it and see if this is just a temporary fix or maybe its a permanent fix. It may just have been all the dalvik cache taking up space but over 100mb in 2-3 days seems like a lot of cache.

It will most probably be the dalvik cache, .dex files can be anything up to 1-2mb+ for each app. IMO dalvik2cache is a bad idea, on the latest FW the /cache partition has been reduced to 100mb, fill that up and you will be unable to download from the market. You should try link2sd, it will work on any rooted phone with stock kernel. (as long as you make the 2nd partition fat.) And it will move the app, library and .dex files to your 2nd partition and it will mount the 2nd patition on boot so keyboards/widgets are unaffected. I have 350+ apps installed on my phone and thanks to link2sd i still have 235mb free and phone is fast as hell
Thats cool. My old phone I had the sdcard partitioned with an EXT3, I would love to do that with this phone but dont think its supported yet. I may be wrong but I have not found anything like that for the Verizon R800x. Do you know if there is a way to remove the dalvik2cache hack if I wanted to revert it back to internel memory?

It will work on any android as long as your rooted. You need to make the 2nd partition fat though not ext2/3/4 as fat has native support so no custom kernel is needed. It calls to install-recovey.sh not init.d too so you can use stock kernel To remove dalvik2cache, unzip the zip you flashed look at the files in the .zip and delete the corresponding ones on your device
Thank you, I will do that, look through the .zip and delete the files. I already downloaded and installed the Link2sd. I am all about getting more memory out of the pathetic 400mb SE put in place, don't know why the hell they didnt just give us at least 2gb. But whatever still love the phone even with the limitation. Anyway what I ws going to say was I all for gaining memory ut not ifi ts going to make my phone crash some time down the road.
This is the best HD2 ROM I've ever tested but only missing 1 thing... space
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022108
The Amazing Qaliza incredible S V2.... It have all the requirments for day to day use as speed, stable and even looks gr8
Is there any way I can increase the internal space as I get only 81 MB after install wich is not enough for my day to day used apps....
Any help would be thankfull
Use an ext partition, as per post 1.
1st of all thx for the reply
In fact that's what I've did.. but the thing is in post 1 it's mentioned for the V4 ROM which is Data2sd while this ROM is built on app2sd.. and this is the problem...
So any Ideas????
Ap2sd and data2sd both use the same ext.
also, you are aware that the system wont include the ext value when you view available storage, right? But it will use it as internal storage.
So say you have 80mb free plus a 1gb ext partition, your available storage shows as 80mb, but really its 1104mb.
Third party apps like titanium WILL include the ext value.
the thing is that it's included and this is 4 sure... but I really can't install any new apps as it says you are running out of storage... and this is the problem.
In titanium backup I have the storage reading like this :
System ROM:325 MB (3.28 MB Free)
Internal :95.6 MB(12.1 MB Free) - and this is the problem
SD card: :2.90 GB(148 MB Free)
SD card a2sd:1.00 GB (808 MB Free) which I can't do any thing with them
So this is the problem in easy way.... Any help, Plzzzzzzzzzzz
I've tested alot and alot of ROM's but I think this is the most stable, smooth, fast and even all features working in excellent Condition such as camcorder, vedio playing and all the stuff you need in day to day.
So if you could suggest another ROM that functions as good as this one it would be gr8 to have it but the thing is that it should support Arabic language as well.
Sorry for the long reply but just wanted to clear my point of view and my request

Most of your apps downloaded from market will be installed there. So...what did you mean with "which I can't do any thing with them"?
as post above, and also, could it be that the 200mb used in your sd-ext partition is left over from an old rom?
To wipe the sd-ext, go into cwm and run a wipe data/factory reset (but this will of course reset the rom and wipe the phones data, so do a backup first)
Also, i think there are some terminal commands to restart/activate app2sd (or data2sd, ) perhaps they would help?
For me, the one time months ago that i had issues with teh sd-ext partition seemingly not being used, i just took a backup, repartitioned the sd card, reflashed the rom (since i suspect that app2sd is initialised during first boot) and it worked.

That's what I'm talking about... That I've done task29 wipedata/factory reset b4 starting to install the ROM and when 1st start it the sd-ext is almost free then while installing the apps some go there and alot doesn't !!!!
for example now I have about 11MB free on the internal storage and 808 MB Free on the sd-ext, If I tried to install an app that is 14 MB I wouldn't be able to do so
For your knowledge, I've tried to install alot of rom's and they worked perfect, tried to contact Qaliza but I think he is busy now repling for my Issue, wiped my phone till I felt it wouldn't remember that he is a cell phone any more reinstalled the rom many times and always have the same Issue with the low disk space.... I think I'm in need of a patch or something like this.
Now I have a Q:
If I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20776525&postcount=2733 will it help or will it corrupt my ROM only??
sorry if my Q looks stupid but I'm really looking for any thing that could help
