Hi,
I removed some parts of motoblur. However I left blur.res as I don't know what it does. Seems somehow important (big file about 3mb large).
Anyone knows what it is and wether it's removable ?
*bump* any ideas ?
The whole motorola interface engine. Dont mess with it, have read enought posts about people softbricking because of that and asking for the apk and stuff...

Hi,
Anybody seen any actual implementations of a more secure permissions model for Android? That is, patched and compiled a kernel, used it in a custom ROM or anything like that?
A little background information:
The very first time, I tried to install an app from the Market, I was stunned to find the lack of options, in regard to which permissions I wanted to grant a certain app, when installed. It is all or nothing - "That can't be true?!", I said to myself, so I went looking for a way to control, which permissions were granted to an app, only to find out, that it's simply not possible (yes, I know you can hack the .apk, but that's besides the point here, and not very user friendly).
The solution (to be?):
While searching the net on this issue, I came across a paper written by a couple of Software Engineers, which seems quite interesting, and just about the perfect solution for my problem. However, I can't find any actual implementations on this - whether the authors didn't make any, or just didn't release it, I cannot say.
The paper I'm referring to, can be found here:
http://recluze.files.wordpress.com/2007/06/and-usage-nauman10.pdf
And another paper here:
http://www.list.gmu.edu/zhang/pub/asiaccs10-apex.pdf
After reading the papers, I went "OMG, that's freaking awesome! Where can I get that?" - So does anyone know something about this? Anything? Work-in-progress perhaps?
I'm very attracted to Android, being the number one open source mobile operating system, but the lack of security features is holding me back somewhat.
There's already posted an issue about this on Google Code - I urge everyone to go and put up a vote for this issue (login, and scroll to the bottom), in order to put some focus on it.

In the meantime - anybody know of any patches?
Best regards,
Michael
Hello XDA people,
When i put files on my SD card. Android doesn't see the files right away. Most of the time after a couple of boots. This is really irritating me. I unmount the device but still no files.
Does someone have the answer for this? Searched the crap out of google, but couldn't find anything useful.
And another question, when i have wallpapers. They show up like i want them to be on my background. But android gives you this retarded cut out tool. That enlarges the wallpaper. Does anyone know a good app to get rid or replace this?
Thanks.
You do know you can enlarge the area that the wallpaper thing tries to cut out? just drag an edge of the yellow box and it will expand it. Can't really help with the files not appearing tho, sorry.
Try "wallpaper set and save" - it's in the market and it's free. Or get Zedge (which is BRILLIANT!) That too seems to be able to set wallpapers a lot better than the native method. You just can't select your own wallpapers with that.
The other problem is something I've seen on the forums a few times. Do a search and you may find some answers.
Still cant find a solution for the file problem. Please someone help
@ johncmolyneux.
Yes i know Zedge it's good. Thanks for the solution for the wallpapers.
Anyone????
I think you have to set up ADB. That was the only thing i could do to get rid of this problem But ABD has it's benefits, believe me
Here's a guide.
If any of you have flashed a ROM and then promptly restored everything with TiBu, then you know the pain that is Restoring the Widgets that get the "Problem Loading Widget" error. Now you might say "You're just lazy its only 4 widgets!" Which I would reply "Yes that would be the case unless I'm a user that
1) likes widgets...a lot.
or
2)likes the WP7 theme idea...a lot.
So you see that is where this app/hack/script will come in handy.
Now I think if anyone would like to help me(I'm a complete linux noob, in fact the only thing i know how to do is a little bit of Java!) I would gladly use all the resources I can, anything from project management to learning a whole new Prog Language.
Now let's start with phase one: Identifying the problem.
My guess is that this error stems from the launcher-widget communication. The only way I can rationalize it is that the launcher requests the widget and the responsible activity can't find it. I have no clue. I'm going to go find the source code of a launcher and analyse it.
If anyone can chime in or even leave some source(s) that would be wonderful!
Thanks!
hi,
i change my firmware to RUTEM_U3_01.14.2 and it doesn't have MotionBlur, how can we install motionblur on it again?!the update doesn't work.
in development section no one answer this question...
Tnx
RE : MotoBlur in Rutem U3_01.14.2 Deblur....
As far as I know there is no way to re-insert MotoBlur once it has been removed from the Firmware. If it is possible, then it will be a job for a competent android developer with extensive knowledge of firmware coding. this effectively rules us end user types out of the playing field .
Maybe the forum Mod could give us his wise thoughts regarding this matter...? If however you do find a way then be sure to inform the Family here as I'm sure many will find this information quite valuable .
Wishing you luck with your endeavours...
Stay Breezy & Be Lucky...
Peace...

I flashed this rom because I want to remove MotionBlur.
How is your phone's standby time with this rom? My flipout will last 10 hours in 2G standby without usage. I am trying to figure out if this is normal for all moto flipout, or it is just my phone's issue.
I do like some MotoBlur things such as the "message" application (universal inbox, messaging, multiple email accounts). I'm not sure if it's a MotoBlur thing, but I really like it.
Other things that are deffenitely MotoBlur are the screen-navigator, so you know on which screen you are, something like
:. : . ^ . : .:
And also the 3 buttons on the right "contacts, menu, phone". The other things such as happenings e.a. ... are crapware imo.
Parts of motoblur are still in the Rutem, looks like they are system relevent, i guess the update would improve them! But i cant update, i need original firmware,....and they are no on internet
