[Q] External Camera - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am a noob and am just getting started with my NC running the latest (102?) CM7 nightly. There clearly are some very talented people developing on this site, thank you!
My question is this... Is it possible to use an external camera such as the one on my Droid X phone with the NC? I would like to use it for video calls with my family during my travels.
Thank you,
Restaguy

[Q] Looking to Develop a ROM

Hey all,
I'm new to the XDA forums and was wondering if I could some advice regarding ROM development on the DX. I've done some UNIX kernel work and know a fairly good amount of java as well, so I was thinking about looking into developing a ROM of my own as a side project. Can anyone direct me towards some information regarding the porting requirements needed by the DX, or possibly I could help out on another ROM to get up to speed on the process?
From what I've seen around here all ROMs for the DX are made by stripping the stock ROM of MOTO Blur, and adding a few packages that are custom or AOSP. Also, be prepared for people to tell you what to do... it seems to be the popular thing to do.
I would also love to maybe one day get into making a ROM, but I haven't seen any guides or the like for people who want to make a ROM. I would imagine it be a tad difficult.

I haven't done any of this I just was interested and found this awhile ago.
Looking forward to see what you can come up with!

My word of advice, since there's a locked bootloader, find every kind of work around you can for performance and battery, otherwise, your rom will be like the rest.
My rom may not come with the best options and all the advanced customizations, but i'll be damned if one outperforms mine in performance at least.. on paper and in theory, anyways. lmao

In addition to what drod said... Hit up @Aliasxerog on Twitter! He is currently looking for help with Linux kernel work. He has been working on a new init for the X to bypass the bootloader issue we have all grown to love! If you could give him some help, I'm sure he, along with the entire Droid X community would be forever in your debt
Shoot him a message and see what he has to say...
I can help you out if you have any questions, I am making a couple of roms for the DROID2 right now and the Dx is pretty much the same phone, just send me a pm if you need anything.

Custom ROMs

I have been SCOURING the web for possible Motorola Bravo ROMs to no avail. I've read everything from the Bravo not possessing the correct files/firmware to the Bravo not having the lack of restriction needed. Point blank, I'm willing to put my phone up for experimental development to jump start this process for the world of Bravo users. I'm an employee of AT&T and I'm tired of the way we kill the freedom of this phone. It's time for the barriers to come down, point blank. Please, developers, feel free to contact me through this post if you are interested. I've heard about making dumb-files for the phone (I'm a moderate noob, to say the least). Therefore, I'm willing, with correct instruction, to create one of these system files to help out or whatever else may be needed.
Thanks
I just got a Bravo and love this guy! I prefer it over my Captivate and Aria. I'm all for some customization to come to this VERY underrated device.
same here. nothing has really been done with this phone. at least we could get 2.2? if nothing else

What does this mean for us Bravo owners, exactly? Thanks.
What it means?
Just makes it easier I think...if you a Motodev member! So, really nothing.
check out my new thread in this forum, i am porting bootstrap used on d2/dx/dpro to the bravo to get clockworkmod running and then we can get some roms!

Cannot save contacts to sim card.

First, im apologizing in advance for being in my current situation. Ok so I paid a friend of a friend to root my mytouch 4g, and now I can't save my contacts to my sim card. After the root, is when I gained interest in software development...
I have been studying these forums extensively and I'm having a hard time learning. I'm a visual learner. I have tried to get ahold of the guy that rooted for me and he doesn't respond.
How can I tell what rom I'm running? I know I'm 2.3.2.? I need lots of learning. And there is just TONS of info on software that I'm not sure of.
Any reference links for "actual" beginners? Or videos? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Once again my apologies.
Sorry nobody answered earlier but there's a lot of videos on you tube but the thing I can tell you is read read and read again everything is much simpler than you think you just gotta know your **** first and you'll never get started without reading otherwise your phone will be an expensive brick
Most likely your phone is running cm7 if its 2.3.2

Thank you sir. I have seen several you tubes, non however performed on a Mac. I'm not certain if it will work correctly and I just want to be sure! I really would like a strait up tutor!! Haha anyone in phx up for it!? Anyway thanks again for the input. Any more suggestions are appreciated guys!

ROM for particular needs.

Hi all.
First, biggest respect and thanks to everyone for spending their time and putting their input in this source of information. I know, that my question can make some people irritated and trigger some flame and negative response. I have read silly questions like “which rom is the best” and smth and understand this... I have gone through number of threads and hundreds of posts, searched but did not find answer in questions concerning me and maybe some other people. I’m using my phone not just for fun but for business as well, so I have no time to do it and keep it as testing platform... I’m sorry for this, and I think I could help developers with donation instead of testing various roms and posting of mine experience here. So, I’m just asking for useful advice, pisstakers and people having nothing good too say, thanks but maybe u could just not flood up this thread. Ok, let’s go...
Can you tell me your opinion about the NAND rom which would suit these needs best. I'm searching for ROM with the best productivity and stability. Saying productivity I mean flawless synchronization with MS outlook contacts and calendar (necessary) and preferably tasks as well at first... And stability and battery drain, also as many features as possible working as bluetooth, tethering, email, etc, etc..
As we know synchronization with MS outlook is weakest side of android yet, although some handset manufacturers making their software to resolve this issue. This is seems not most important thing for most people here, because after searching it looks there is something like white spot on the map about his.
I have my Dell Streak on android froyio 2.2 as my first android learning thing, before I was winmo user... I really like android as better and more perspective OS comparing with dying winmo, so I would like to make my HD2 android which is my business phone more... When I reflashed Dell Streak with froyio 2.2 I lost sync ability with outlook. With help of this forum I installed Deja Office which resolved sync problems.
And now, having read many posts I think I would like to go for gingerbread version, but there is nothing mentioned about synch with ms outlook even there is said that USB SD card mounting-unmounting is not working properly... Deja Office works this way by mounting-unmounting SD volume during synch, so it may not work with gingerbread...Should I go for another one rom? Which one? btw HTC HD 2 with 512 MB (non T-Mobile)
I don’t know, give me some info please and then I will help with donation to developer which rom I will find best for me. Sorry again for trying to get it ready from you instead of testing myself every rom here, but as I said, everybody can make it’s own different input in this board.
Thanks

I agree, but no need to call anyone a retard.
In hopes to add something to this thread other than uselessness, if your looking for something simple and great on battery life then give tytungs gingerbread ROM a shot. Most Sense ROM's are not the best on battery but they aren't terrible on battery either. Anyways, good luck on finding the ROM for you.

Thank you very much motoman. This is the first at least more positive and constructive response... But mine biggest issue is the best synchronising with MS outlook. And I posted this jjust because after reading lots of posts and threads I find almost no information about this.

You sir have a great mentality. I should follow your example and go rob a bank so I can get millions of dollars.
Jokes aside.
Try a sense rom, I find they have all your professional needs built in.
Tethering will not work on any android build, for all of them you have to download a separate app for it to work.
I don't see why a gingerbread build. What siginificant advantages does it have over Froyo?
Since you have a 512 HD2, get a squashed sense rom.
Also, dude please don't under rate our devs by implying they are simply people here to make a profit. They're not gold diggers, atleast in my opinion.

I will consider this, thanks. Although I really like android freedom in apps and in generally after trying it, but if it won't get what I need out from this why not...
Next person to use the word "retard" will receive a nice ban....if you have nothing helpful to say, then don't post anything.

Yes calling someone that isn't very nice.
Edit: Hope Q&A helps you. I couldn't really tell you any one rom for ms outlook cause I don't use it but like motoman said tytungs rom might help. I think cmylxgo has great battery life Imho.
Edit 2: hyperdroidgbx might be another good rom for you to try out.

AOSP rom

Hey guys, I am coming here to ask you all a question. I got my phone unlocked earlier this week and have an interest in learning how to program in AOSP and even help with the CM14.1 build process. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to how to learn to do that? It would be greatly appreciated. I have a really good computer I built and I know a little bit in the coding department and know a good amount with Linux, and so on. It would be a real blessing. Thanks.

Check out the thread at the Android Builders Collective. They are a bunch of exceptionally talented folk & can provide lots of guidance in building. It would also be amazing to have an ABC (Pure Nexus based) ROM for our A7s.
Good luck!

that absolutely would be amazing. Just the AOSP with GAPPS flashed afterwards and maybe try to get the bugs worked out. I'm not sure if i want to do a cm14.1 build or something more complex. All depends i guess.
