Problem with unrevoked3 - EVO 4G General

I rooted the phone but clockworkmod didn't install, the S-OFF is working so what can be the issue?
Should I go a different method to rooting the phone?

You can use Rom Manager to flash the newest version of Clockwork.
If you want to use RA recovery, which most recommend, this file put on your sdcard and then loading into the bootloader [volume down held while powering on the phone] and then saying yes to the dialog will put RA on for you.

[Q] What in the hell? I dont get it !!!!!

Rooted my new evo with 3.70 with unrevoked and the pc3img. Loaded sprint lovers and runs fine. I am trying to install the new fresh 3.5.0.1 ROM. I took the pc3img off my card and put the new fresh zip on my card. I reboot the phone into recovery So I go in and wipe data, wiped cache, wiped dalvik. Reboot recovery. I selected install zip from sdcard, then choose zip from sdcard, then selected fresh-evo-3.5.0.1.zip. It then says confirm install? THIS CAN NOT BE UNDONE. I scroll down and hit yes. It starts writing the boot.img then I get this message.
assert failed: write_raw_image ("tmp/boot.img","boot")
E:error in /sdcard/fresh-evo-3.5.0.1.zip
(status 7)
installation aborted
It does this on every ROM I try to install. What do I do?
flash ra recovery and then try to install.
ra recovery.........where do I get that from?
easiest way is to install rom manager from the market, it will install it for you
You shouldn't be rooting phones if you have to ask that question.
by the way, Im using clockwork. Can I flash like amon ra from my sdcard while in recovery, then flash the fresh rom?

if you can't boot into a rom then you can adb push it into your phone, I'm not familiar enough with that method to walk you through it
this thread will help you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
If I redo my phone from start, can I install Amon ra instead of using clockwork? I think that clockwork is why I am having problems. I cant do backups or anything the way it is right now.
When I say redo my phone, i mean just totaly erase my sdcard and go back through and "reroot" my phone from the beginning. My phone went downhill when I installed clockwork, so next time I am not gonna use it.
yes, you can find the 3.70 ruu in the dev section, it will completely wipe your phone and unroot. use if your phone came new with the 3.70 software
found it http://www.megaupload.com/?d=86NCAM22
The way to install Amon RA is to use rom manager, if you dont have it get it. Go in and flash clockwork recovery, just to make sure it's flashed fully. Now scroll all the way down and go to flash alternate recovery, which is actually Amon RA. There you go. Now you you can flash just like you would through clockwork. Select your file and hit power. Now this time instead of scrolling down to confirm it will tell you to hit power to confirm. Good Luck with fixing your phone!

[Q] Problems HTC MAgic 32b recovery mode

HTC Magic
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B
HBOOT-1-33.006
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
I have problems getting in to the recovery mode (pwr button + home) it just gives me de red vodafone screen and hangs.
I am trying to install a custom rom.
- rooted the device with universal androot. it says my device is rooted succesfully.
- i also installed rom manager and installed the default clockwork recovery.
But i cant reboot into flash recovery.
I also tried another thread with a custem flash recovery recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img. I followed it's instructions.
the instructions tells me on a terminal session or CMD prompt to install this custom ROM.
adb shell
su
(Now look at your device. If the superuser app is asking for permissions, then just push "allow" and make sure that the "remember" option is checked.)
cd /system/bin
ls
But i get no permission. I cant get root user when i type su.
so I must not have a rooted device or my permissions are incorrect on the sd-card.
Does anyone have an idea what i should do?
Did you reboot your phone after running Universal Androot?

What happens if you switch off the phone and then press and hold home button while pressing the on/of button to switch on the phone.
If you are root and have installed the recovery properly, it should be shown within a few seconds after showing the red vodafon screen. From there you should be able to flash any custom rom. Meanwhile I flashed many recoveries and roms on both my tattoo and my magic 32b. Never had any problem execept those when forgetting to wipe.
And to be honest, I'm far away from beeing an expert!
I installed rom manager first and then universal androot.
also when i use adb from the android sdk i sometimes get the problem that i have no permission.
Could it be that the phone is'nt correctly rooted?
I tried all kinds of tools either on pc or mac. nithing really works
what would be the best way to root the HTC Magic correctly and what recovery image should i use. Also wich order.
I'm quite the noob when it comes to installing custom roms
Try "SuperOneClickv1.6.3-ShortFuse.zip" (available at xda).
This was very easy to use and worked like a charm.
I used it twice on my magic 32b, no problem!
I tried that also.
the rooting works. I tried an app to check if i have root access and it says I have root acces.
but when I use adb commands and su to root it will say no permission.
i think this is why installing the recovery in clockwork fails.
any suggestions?
I'll repeat myself. Have you rebooted the phone after running the root programs? Either one?
yes. I rebooted after each try but still I can't get into recovery mode. it just hangs.
also when i try to install a recovery image file i still get the no permissions errors.
the only recovery mode install that worked was the recovery from clockwork in ROM manager.
If ADB is working, goto shell (adb shell).
What do you see in prompt,
is it '$' or '#'?
If it's '$' try "su".
What is the output of "id"?
If you're root you should see something like "uid=0(root) gid=0(root)"
I See a $ and my id is shell instead of root.
if I type su it will give me a no permission error.
however I did download a terminal tool for android
from there I can su and it will make me root.
is there anyway i can use the terminal to install a recovery image so that if i boot my phone with home+power I will get into the recovery?
Try something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4056530&postcount=6
Replace the recovery image in the post by for example recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.7.0G.img.
I did it almost the same way.
I was also having a recovery problem (Tmobile) after trying to flash_image RA-1.7.0G into recovery in rooted 2.2.1 OTA (obviously not the way to go). I downloaded the Clockwork Rom Manager from the Market and it was able to flash both Clockwork or Amon RA recovery with no problem and then reboot it into recovery.

When you reboot and go into recovery, does it load amon_RA or clockworkmod?
I had problems with that from the 2.2.1 OTA.
I was rooted for a long time, and then had to try the t-mo 2.2.1 so I unrooted and ran that for a while after their ota update. It was sluggish and I didn't much like it so I thought I would try using z4root and superoneclick to root it and put setcpu and overclock it a bit to see if it improved. Z4root didn 't work and superoneclick appeared to work. If you went into terminal it would give you # and seem to be rooted. I could install and run set cpu and it would work. However no matter what recovery I tried to install, it would disappear and return to stock recovery upon reboot with the 2.2.1 OTA.
You could get rom manager to load, or seemingly so , clockworkmod recovery. You could also have rom manager load into clockworkmod from within rom manager. Buit as soon as you reboot, it goes back to the default stock recovery.
I eventually gave up with that and decided to reroot old school and rooted it manuallyl. I went back to the sappimg.nbh file, installing the old cyanogen 1.4 recovery, the 1.33.2005 SPL. I then put clockwork mod 2.5.0.7 recovery on and then the t-mo 2.22.23.02. I was running cm6.1 for a while and now Yoshi's ginger rom.
And so, after this wandering tale, lol, I am wondering if you had more success that I did with the 2.2.1 and getting a recovery to load.

You could have just got booted into recovery once, flashed the engineering SPL only (there's a ZIP you can flash from recovery to do this), which would only change the SPL, from recovery, then erase/reflash the recovery from fastboot, and finally change the SPL back.

Thanks; that is very useful , and I didn't even think of that at the time. I think I was so frustrated that the recovery would not stay I just had a "I will make it work moment" and I knew what I was doing would work.
But thanks, I will definitely remember that if I have to do that again
Just here to help ;D

dairy of a madman

I've got me a xtc clip and found out the hard way to use it.
so far so good, S-off and I decided to get CWR to install a rooted rom
I installed CWR 3006 and so no Amend scripting and no Sense based roms
So I treid to downgrade CWR 3 to a 2version and failed.
Then I decide to downgrade 2.2.1 to use unrevoked to get root and hopfully downgrade CWR the sametime.
Yeah great the downgrade went fine but I got a touchpanel fail with several RUU i treid
what to do next I've manged to get CWR 3006 back on cause I made a nandroid backup and could reverse it
With that backup version running the touchscreen responded again alltouh in fast boot menu it still said touchpanel fail.
I've got me a full day of involving with my buzz and I'm back to were I started
very frustating.
I'm to stupid to downgrade CRW can't get root with unrevoked cause its telling me it can't flash recovery image
yeah you my laugh about me but I'm not giving up
I was wondering if someone could tell me how to downgrade CWR from 3 to a 2 version, I still don't have root and it needs to be noob proof please
i've tried so many times but always failed :-(
( if this post is offtopic pleace remove by a mod sorry I had to tell someone)
Install ROM Manager, and, install a Recovery through it. It will install CWM 2.5.0.7, and, entering Recovery Mode through ROM Manager will load up 2.5.0.7
This way, you will have both CWMs, 2.x and 3.x, which is exactly what I am following at the moment.
(Didn't read your entire thread, just went through the gist of it, sorry)
thanks for your answer
my problem is I still can't get root so I can not use Rom manager.
I've succeed in getting a lower Hboot to use Unrevoked
but it's given me "cant install recovery image", so I think it's conflicting with 3006
I do not know how to get rid of CRW and put the original one back in place.
By downgrading from a official RUU I get touchpanel-fail so I cant activate usb debugging and install from other then market this means so unrevoked can't do his job.
life is so frustrating sometime.......
me again I've been thinking about CWR.
to make a PC49IMG.zip of clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 with andriod-info.txt and the recovery.img. and give it a go.
will this function or am I just bricking the phone?
Since you have s-off:
Find fastboot binary (google)
save it somewhere
open terminal/command prompt. cd to the directory where you saved it ("cd /path/to/fastboot/")
reboot phone into bootloader. choose fastboot.
in command prompt/terminal type
$fastboot flash recovery <recoveryfile.img>
where recoveryfile.img is your recovery image (including the path to it, or just save the image wherever fastboot is)
edit: wait a minute, you downgraded your bootloader after getting s-off? WHY ON EARTH??? you crazy?
Id say some semi skimmed milk
thanks nhnt11 for your answer
to your question of downgrading bootloader got it up again
installed a oficial RUU froyo and started all over again, it solved the touchpanel fail and I installed a CRW 2.5 and I'm back in bisness
this is how I succeeded:
"Dont try to downgrade and get root with unrevoked this will end up in a touchpanel-fail ( and you have to upgrade a Ruu froyo to get rid of it)"
Get S-off with xtc clip
2.2.1 Stock Rom Rooted : http://www.multiupload.com/JSAWVUC88O
Recovery, Radio Update: http://rapidshare.com/files/451971561/PC49IMG.zip
1) Download Above Files
2) Copy PC49IMG.zip to the Root of your SD Card
3) Copy the Rooted Stock Rom to the SD Card and rename it to update.zip
4) Reboot your phone into Hboot Mode by pressing Volume Down and Power
5) It will now ask if you want to update the firmware select Volume Up for Yes.
6) Remove the SD Card and Reboot Back to Hboot Mode and select recovery using Volume Down then Power to select.
7) You should see a nice ClockWork Recovery system.
8) Reinsert the Gold Card and select apply update.zip from SDcard.
9) Let that finish then do a Wipe data/factory (Will Loose All Data and Settings only perform if your going to use another Rom!)
10) Do a wipe cache partition and in advance do wipe dalvik cache.
11) Reboot phone and Enjoy your Rooted Wildfire with Hboot 1.01.001.
thanks and credit go to hacktrix2006 of xtc
is this going to work on the Aria?

[Q] Problems with going into ClockworkMod Recovery mode

I have rooted my HTC Wildfire and now i need to get CyanogenMod 7 on it ...
i have downloaded Rom manager i flashed ClockworkMod Recovery mode into the phone...
But when i enter Recovery mode its just the regular Recovery screen that comes up...
I have tryied this 3 times and it still wont work (also after resetting the whole phone)
How do i get ClockworkMod Recovery mode on my phone then ?
EDIT :
I installed CM7 via ROM MANEGER and now i need to install Google Apps.
But when i go into Revolutionary CMW (Revovery mode) and try to Select "apply update from sdcard" all the text just disapers and nothing new is comming up...
What do i do ?
Flashing from rom manager will not give a permanent recovery for wildfire (when there is no custom recovery at first). But such kind of process is there for other phones.
Sent from my Blade using XDA App
So how to get cm7 based recovery . Cm7 needs CWM 3.x or higher recovery. The answer depends on whether u have used unrevoked or alpharev (=revolutionary) to root ur phone.
If u used unrevoked, u must be having some recovery. Here u can use rom manager to flash 3.x recovery and reboot to recovery from within rom manager to temporarily get 3.x + recovery which can flash cm7. Or u can download a 3.x + recovery.img file and use unrevoked again to flash that recovery. Here u should select the custom recovery option in unrevoked and point to ur downloaded file.
And if u have used revolutionary, there will be an option during the revolutionary process where to install custom recovery or not. U can choose to install. Or once u have s-off, fastboot flashing will be enabled. So u can flash a recovery from fastboot with the help of a PC. This is more preferrable. There are also other options. If u search the dev forums u will see posts explaining to install recovery through "pc49img" method. Also "flash_image" method. Both these wont need a pc unlike all the above methods.

Problem solved but a new one is here
I installed CM7 via ROM MANEGER and now i need to install Google Apps.
But when i go into Revolutionary CMW (Revovery mode) and try to Select "apply update from sdcard" all the text just disapers and nothing new is comming up...
What do i do ?
Choose 'Install Zip from SDCard', not 'Apply update from SDCard'
I have tryied all of them....
inclusive "power down" and not even that works its only removing the text and nothing new comes up
Use the trackball for selecting stuff in Clockworkmod. Not the Power button.
WOW FAIL BY ME !!!
Sry guys im still noob at rooting
Thank you for the help.
PROBLEM SOLVED!

Clockworkmod Backup Fails

I've unlocked my phone via HTCDev, HTC Super tool and installed Clockworkmod from Market.
I have root, clockworkmod installed fine, recovery installed but if I do a backup it reboots and its on a black screen, red exclamation mark until I pull the battery. I've left it over an hour and it never does anything.
Any tips or something I'm missing so I can take a full rom backup ?
try the s-off method of flashing clockworkmod from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290841
Make sure you have the appropriate version of CWM as an update.zip in the root of your SD.
Then when you get to that screen with the generic device and red exclamatory point, press VOLUP + Power. Then select apply update:update.zip and it will launch CWM.
From there you can restore any backup you've made.
