go back to Stock question - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a blue dot nook, the newer ones that came with 1.2, i made the procedure to repartition the nook color to the original partition from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1094371 so i can install phiremod on it
So if i want to go back to stock what do i have to do?
will this procedure work? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720
Or Do i have to repartition again as was before? and use this procedure? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050520
thanks for the help

If you do want to revert to stock, I would use the second thread's procedure without repartitioning. It won't restore the old partition scheme, but it will give you a "stock enough" NC to return for warranty repair or to root. If you want to get the "blue dot" partitioning back to load up on B&N apps, take the NC to a B&N and have them repartition it for you.

[Q] manual nooter problem, question about flashing to stock

Hi, first post. I've searched for similar threads/questions but haven't found any.
I ran manual nooter 4.5.6 on my nook running 1.2.0 and was quite happy with it. But so last night I powered the Nook Color down and when I powered it up this morning it gets as far as the "nook color" colorized screen animation and then boot loops. I've seen other folks have this problem (posted in the dev forum in the manual nooter 1.2.0 thread) but no solution offered other than "restore to stock and re-root it".
While that's do-able, I was wondering what data gets wiped out in the 2nd part of the flashing to stock process. Is it possible to just do the first part (8 boots, restore to stock 1.2.0) and keep the data (books and music that I have on the onboard memory)? or is the data-wipe an integral part of restore to stock? does the userdata get wiped during the software update part anyway?
I don't care so much about having to reinstall apps and configuration etc etc (although if there's a way to get it booting without flashing to stock and I just haven't seen it, please let me know), but the data's a pain right now...
Help or pointers would be appreciated
You probably have the issue where Flash was auto upgraded, a know problem.
I had to start over, making sure Flash wasn't set to auto update, and proceed from there.
Not sure if this will help or not but when I plug my nook into my computer I actually get 2 icons come up in my file manager program, one for the sdcard and one for the emmc.
I would think that you could copy the files you need from the emmc to your computer, then after you reload and reroot you could copy them back to their respective folders on the emmc.
Not ideal, but better than nothing.

Question about rooting a 1.2 Nook

I just received a new to me NC. Its already running 1.2 do I still need to do a full wipe before Nooting it per these instructions or can I skip straight to flashing it?
http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/04...stall-market-google-apps-and-nookcolor-tools/
I assume that if I were to wipe it I wil be updated to 1.3 which from what I understand does not have a root method yet.
Another question.
Do I need to root my NC (using manual Nooter) or is just installing CWM and CM7 sufficient? From the video I watched on how to install CM7 it looked as though Market works without Nooting. What are the benefits of rooting the device as opposed to simply installing a rom or are they the same?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmmmm8cBpe0&annotation_id=annotation_252158&feature=iv
I want to help you but I don't think I understand much what you try to say.
"full wipe before Nooting it"??? If "full wipe" = nothing left then "nooting" what? What left to be nooted?
" I were to wipe it I wil be updated to 1.3"
again, if "wipe it" = nothing left = then what the point to update from zero? In fact, it's nothing to update but start from scratch.
Pls rephrase your question(s) in order to get help.
That's actually a good question. I used manual nooter before flashing CM7 not because I thought I needed to but because I was just going through the process of trying various rooting approaches.
Thinking about it you can probably just stick CM7 on the CWM SD and flash away, no need to manual noot or to remove anything from the nook before hand. Installing CM7 will wipe any of your personal stuff anyhow so backup anything you want to keep after the install.
If you can, try flashing CM7 without manual noot and let us know if it works
I just flashed CM7 to the EMMC with CWR and it was painless. Everything works great also! If you want to do that I followed eyeballer's post. There was no need to root. Basically you set up your SD card and boot from it them flash everything on it to the internal, clean SD so you can use it for storage and you are good to go.

Using the method in the linked youtube app above I installed cm7 to the emmc and everything that booting does has been included. Doesn't seem like booting or rooting is necessary. Market, and multitouch, and superhero and everything else is installed. All I did was burn cwm to a usb and dropped the cm7 and gapps file onto it afterwards. From there is stuck the card in, powered it up normally, that flashed the two files and have been in business ever since.

Yep all is good over here too. The only thing I really needed to do afterwards was to modify the lcd density to get the market links to show. For anyone that wants a rooted, cm7'd book this is all that is needed. I'm loving it so far.
I guess I have similar question My nook color i coming tomorrow and now i'm not sure what to do. I'll definitely boot CM7 on SD card but i'm not sure what to do with nook Since 1.3 is out, should i first run the update and then run manual nooter to add rest of stuff or should i run manaul nooter and then block auto update of 1.3?
Thx
More than likely it will come with 1.2. Just register it, install CM7 and have fun.

[Q] Need help restoring Nook Color to stock

I've been a very happy Nook Color user, running CyanogenMod 7 from
the internal SSD, until yesterday.
Now, my NC will reboot after, at most, a few minutes of use. The problem's
something to do with holding the unit and/or pressing the buttons -- if I leave it
on a flat surface, cabled to my Linux box, I can run adb shell for hours.
I want to send it in for repair, and I want to restore it to stock before sending
it in. Given the NC's fragile state, I'm concerned that I might brick it
during the restore to stock.
Using Clockwork recovery to restore to stock seems risky
-- my Nook could easily reboot while pressing the buttons,
or while flashing the ROM.
How much, if any, of the restore process can I drive from adb shell?
What are the commands that clockworkMod Recovery actually runs?
I'd like some help working out the safest way to get this NC back to stock.
Thanks.
If you have images of your device prior to installing CM7... you can use the CWR boot to dd the images back to your nook... if not there's really not much worry about it rebooting during the process... make a uSD with CWR on it... you will alway be able to boot into that if you have to.
Use a bootable SD card with CWR 3.2.0.1 or higher, wipe everything like when you first installed CM7 and then install this stock ROM (1.3). It will bring you back to stock. I had to do the same thing not long ago....

It really is the best way. If you get stuck, just keep trying....

[Q] What do I need to do before returning my Nook under Warranty? Used CM7 SD Rom

I have a Nook that is a few weeks old. I got it as a refurb and the Power button is not working right. I booted off of a CM7 SD disk and later noticed that I can not update to 1.4.1. even with the SD card removed. It has something to do with CWR getting installed I think. Do I need to flash back to a clean stock Rom before RMAing the Nook back? Thanks
I would do a complete restore just to be safe. Check out the restoring to stock section of the guide in my sig.

Thanks for the info and the link

Just bought a used NC; old user messed with ROMS; how to get back to "square one?

Just bought a used NC; old user messed with ROMS; how to get back to "square one?
I just bought a used Nook Color. The previous owner messed around with ROMs, rooting and bootloaders. I don't know what version of bootloader/recovery/rom/whatever he had. Only thing he told me was he had it "dual booting" the original Nook OS and Android.
I would like to get back to as stock as possible so that I have a fresh start to install clean roms with. I'm afraid that if I start flashing stuff right now, I might have some older/newer version of something other than what I flash requires.
Any way to do this?
Thanks!
First remove the SD and boot without it. If goes to stock, you don't have to do anything. It should be ok. He was using the SD method of dual booting.
If he was dual booting so that everything was on internal memory (both operating systems), which is rare, then you need to go to my partition repair thread and flash the zips there before re-installing stock.
If it does not go to stock when you removed the SD, go to my NC tips thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD per item A10. Then use that to re-install stock per my item A15.

Thanks for the reply! I removed the SD card, and it looks like it's stock to me. Only thing is when I boot to recovery, I get what looks like ClockworkMod Recovery. Is there any way to get EVERYTHING back to stock? I'd like to go install something like CyanogenMod to the device, so I get a full-android tablet. I'm worried that I could screw up something though if I try following their instructions with anything other than a plain vanilla system.

Just use that CWM recovery to flash my stock recovery zip from my NC Tip thread. But before you do that, boot to stock and go to settings and do an erase and deregister so it removes your friend's data and registration. If he already did that you do not need to.
