Hey guys,
I know many of you are waiting for this info, I held the 3g version today, and sadly it does not have a.micro sd.slot. It is just like the wifi version.
Earlier there were rumours on the 3G version getting a slot but sadly it didn't.
I was at the galaxy tab 10.1/8.9 sneak peak today. 8.9 was pre installed with touch wiz, while 10.1 wasn't. although 3g tab was running 3.0 it still felt smooth and the tab running 3.1 felt simply awesome.
I really wish samsung gave the user an option for touchwiz on 8.9.
I'm really tired now, so I'm off too bed, i'll be posting the pics up soon to prove it.
Cheers
Jackie

Where was this event and why hasn't anyone reported anything on it?
Was it the Verizon LTE tab on display? If not, who's to say that version won't have microSD? Until the carrier versions are announced, nobody will know the true specs
so 10.1vthonner edition?
i'm stsrting to thing theres no 3g drivers yet for 3.1 on the gtabs and thats why 10.1v owners havent got the update yet

The packaging for the Poland 3G version (10.1 NOT 10.1v) says it has a microSD slot supporting up to 32GB. But it also says it's a 1.2Ghz cpu - so perhaps it is just a mock up only and final products don't but i really hope it's not the case.
I was thinking of the Xoom as an alternative, but due to it's instability and some people say poor build quality, if the TAB doesn't have a micoSD card then I think I will be waiting for the the release of the 10" HTC flyer in a few months from now....
i get the feeling there are different versions of the 3g tab. some will have a micro sd slot and some wont. I have now seen both tabs on the internet. those with a sim card slot and a micro sd slot and others with just a sim card slot. only time will tell

Was looking at the post and I have a Xoom myself and was interested I how the new tabs are. One thing you say is that the Xoom build quality is poor but, I had to disagree with you. My Xoom feels solid, a bit heavy at times, but there is nothing wrong with to build quality. Most of the instability is due to software in Honeycomb which will be fixed with updates.
Back to the OP:
The Verizon LTE Galaxy tab might have a micro sdcard included and not in the 3g version you saw. Another post I saw said some specs which included a 1.2ghz processor. Is it confirmed that Samsung is using their Exynos processor in the 3g model?

Hi Jackie:
Please tell us where do you live, where was the sneak peak, and how come they had the 8.9 as well...
Most of all, please tell us if the version you saw had the VERIZON branding on the back .... (it should be LTE (4g speeds) not 3g).
Every country / version is different but if you saw Verizon, then that's what we are going to get in the USA.
Thanks,
R.

Yes sorry I meant the weight more than anything is putting me off the xoom and the instability - which as you said will be corrected in time, but for me I don't want to put up with that when I buy a device like this. My Omnia 2 with cooked roms has been plagued with issues, until I finally got a working rom.
But the main thing for me is the microSD slot - if this doesn't have one I will be p'd off because I want this tablet. I don't like storing lots of crap on the internal flash and having to constantly delete and copy new files over due to space limitations. if the internal flash fails it's screwed, so better to put all temp data etc on external microSD, if that dies you buy a new one and pop it in and your back in business....
But as the previous poster said only time will tell with this one unfortunately

I've never had the internal flash on a device fail, but I've had plenty of microSD cards and other swapable storage cards bug out, glitch, and fail to be recognized. I guess swapable cards can be more convenient for transferring files from machine to device and back (depending on your setup and usage), but I certainly would never tout reliability as a feature or benefit of swapable cards.
Hi,
picture/info card above was taken at Samsung Mobile Live in Poland.
Samsung has about 20 stand like this in most major cities in Poland - working for 1 month.
Now... there are differences between Gtab presented at those stands.
1. In my opininion 1,2 Ghz is a mistake made be someone, perhaps PR/marketing agency and it will have 1 Ghz Tegra 2 -> see what happend at Vodafone website?
2. I have been to 2 stands both had a white GTab with sim slot but no microSD. I ahve asked and been told it is not a production model.
3. One of them was running pure honeycomb 3.0.1 - cool.
4. The other one was running Andorid 3.1 with TouchWiz - I have to say this UI is much better (more useful, convenient and user friendly) than pure HC UI. It feels the gaps on where google did not made the extra step (like notification area). If I will buy this tab this will be my UI of choice - it is just good (at least form what I seen).
I have to say that it would be great is good old Sammy would give us the option to install/uninstall TouchWiz as we please.
5. I do have an info regarding GTab from one more city. Model there was black, with sim slot and microSD slot on top (if you have any frinds in Cracow, please ask them to confirm this).
Good morning guys,
I'll be posting the pics by about 2:00PM GMT. I'm at work now. to clear some doubts and questions people had, the devices were said to have flown in from U.S. ( I am in Dubai, U.A.E) - the one I was using certainly wasn't running 3.1 and it certainly wasn't Verizon LTE model.
It is possible that the device differs in regions, I did check quadrant on all of them, about 1950 was the Max I got on the 10.1, and 1600 something on the 8.9. ALL were running the TEGRA 2 chip. I personally found 3.1 more snappier than 3.0 and the 8.9 tab had touch wiz preinstalled, it does fill in the gaps where Google missed, BUT - it slows down the device a lot (yes its a beta software, same can't be said for the final one) but for now I won't choose TouchWiz, I'd stick with the vanilla rom.
All the tabs were white in color, with an exception of a Google I/O tab that had the Android Army on the back ( it was a personal tab of one of the developers present there)
Until I post pictures, please refer to Post #5 in this same thread, It look exactly like that. I even asked a Samsung rep, he said NONE of the tabs have a MicroSD slot. now it is to be seen whether he meant during the event or the final product.
Cheers
Jackie

I think different versions for different regions/carriers would explain the problem (and is in-line with what Samsung have done with their other devices e.g. SGS1). The thing I can't understand is, why would they even build a version that is the same as another just without the MicroSD card slot. Surely excluding this has negligible different on weight and cost. It appears it has no affect on overall dimensions of the device. Therefore the worst case for each:
Excluding the slot at worst annoys the majority of of potential purchasers with the lack of flexibility and memory upgradable options so they look elsewhere.
Including the slot at worst has no downside at all.
And Samsung's logic for this??
You guys remember that the microsd slot on Xoom still doesn't (officially) work? Do you know why? It's because Honeycomb doesn't support it. Yes i know that Transformer has a working sd card slot but this is thanks to Asus who somehow made it work.
There are rumors that the European Xoom's will get sd card functionality with 3.1 update. But no word on US Xooms, that's probably because the US Xoom's are Google experience devices and Google doesn't allow messing with their software.
Considering all this, it actually makes sense to me. Why include a sd slot when you can't make it work? A lot more people will complain about it if the slot is there but it doesn't work (look at Xoom). So if some of the Samsung tabs are going to be Google experience devices, then i understand why they won't have a sd card slot.
And the fact that they are not giving any info also makes sense (from the business part of view). If you tell people that there is going to be a version with microsd card slot (and maybe even with 1.2GHz CPU) in the future, who is going to buy the version that doesn't have these features?

no, it means it still tegra 2, quadrant fluctuates each test, if I managed a 1950, I'm sure 2000 is possible, if it were Exynos it would've been blown out of water

How to you know that? Have you used a device with Exynos and a 1280x800 screen? I think that screen resolution can have a big impact on quadrant scores, so you can't just expect scores based on SGSII performance.

I agree, but just a 50 increase over the tegra 2? I'm sure that Exynos can do much much beter !!
Thats true, and also Honeycomb is pretty much different compare to Froyo.
The output must also be different. Noone knows how Exynos will perform on Honeycomb at 1280x800 screen resolution on Samsung hardware.

Motorola advertised the SD card slot as a feature that would work with a future software update. For Motorola's reputation, I would sure hope they do enable that SD card slot eventually. They haven't even rolled out the 4G upgrades yet though. So I think it's just a matter of time before SD (and 4G) become available.
ASUS was able to add micro SD. And no disrespect to ASUS, but if an Android newcomer like ASUS could figure it out, I'm pretty sure Samsung could very easily add micro SD to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 if they wanted to.
It was a choice by Samsung not to add micro SD.
And Samsung has made it clear by showing off TouchWiz UX on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 that these devices are not meant to be Google Experiences.

Not a wild guess but see if this makes sense.
SD card.
Specs everywhere says it will have SD Card slot.
http://www.youtube.com/user/tinhtevideo#p/u/35/vdu5PVjCGo0 says it has it
Wifi model weighs 565gm but SIM model 595gm. Just adding a SIM slot shouldn't increase in 30grams higher weight. Means it will also have microSD slot as well
At CTIA, Samsung showed a SD card adapter. It Said that is for 8.9 tab ONLY. 8.9 GSM model doesnt have a SD card slot. Check this video. At 8:29 it shows a SIm slot but nowhere you see a SD card slot. So why would samsng have a 8.9 ONLY SD card adapter if 10.2 also didnt have SD card...
http://www.youtube.com/user/MForumRu#p/u/5/Dp2kM5MLUio
Exynos 1.2 GHZ
Delayed launch compared to Wifi Model indicates, it may be different
Original galaxy tab 7 inch 3G model has powerful CPU compared to Wifi. Probably sell at cheapest possible price to undercut apple
Tegra 2 1GHZ is getting old and a tab that shows up in July should have fastest CPU
Budget conscious wifi owners might not care too much about CPU but only bottom line low price. Also ordinary non-tech savvy buyers who compare with ipad2.
See how fast the tab is in this video. This is a SIM model. Web pages are superfast indicating it may have exynos 1.2
http://www.youtube.com/user/MForumRu#p/u/5/Dp2kM5MLUio
I agree that the wifi model is probably not going to include microSD and the 3G model will have microSD.
Hopefully the Samsung slide about the microSD adapter being only for the 8.9 is incorrect, because that would be something useful on the 10.1 wifi model as well. And I'm sure they are both using the same dock connector, so the same accessories should work on both the 8.9 and 10.1.
Regarding the Exynos CPU. I really doubt it'll be in the 3G model. Nvidia's CEO was just talking up how great the Galaxy Tab is. Don't think he'd be doing that if some of them didn't include his chip.

Yer there is more to it then the slot.
You require the radio and antenna/s to actually get a signal the SIM slot is just a housing for the Subscriber Identity Module.
Also highly doubt that after all the advertising for the Dual Core 1GHz that it will be anything but the Tegra 2 CPU but they are probably going to take it of interactive scaling which is the main reason the 10.1v feels slow at times.
And there is nothing wrong with the Tegra 2 example:Xoom @1.6GHz blitzing quadrant with a 4465 score
Another video on youtube, no SD Card.
I'd been watching various pictures and videos to see if they had them... Now ones are popping up that are not the LE without the SD. Meh.
youtube.com/watch?v=UzXx-Mf8BI0
I think between this and the performance of Tegra 2, screen bleeding, this isn't the tab for me. Good luck people!
There is something interesting in the last video for 8.9, there is no nvidia Zone >.> (Exynos?)

That's the killer question for me, I've returned a Transformer due to poor build/quality and I'm not hearing anything from Samsung regarding UK release and price. I'm getting impatient but I don't want to make a wrong decision.

Hi!
I am like anyone else. Just wanted to say I have been playing today with the Acer Aconia and I got the feeling it is a very nice pad. Can only compare it to the Advent Vega, and the display, the finish, the ports/slots, etc. all of them convinced me.
I do like the TF, but there are a lot of QA bugs. I was expecting much from the new Galaxy, but have been somehow let down (ipad-like experience, no ports but a propietary one).
Well, will keep on researching until june.
Regards.

The TF is a good tablet. As we speak 2 kernel devs are working on the overclocking, one is netarchy. One posted a pic at 1400. I've had mine since launch and I love it. Bought a 16gb card and now have a 32 gb tablet for $430! I'm completely happy.

Every tablet has these issues. Look at the first weeks of post for every tablet and u will see. They tend to die down over time as updates come out
Let's hope it is like you say, just some defects on the first units that will be fixed on the next ones.

I still hope we will see Exynos in some tabs (like with SGII)... other wise why would they be saying Dual Core CPU and not straight -Tegra 2 (that plain customer can easily recognize) like everyone (asus, Acer, Moto, Notioink...etc) else?
I don't think Samsung would leave all those devs they gave the I/o tabs to out in the cold. Some apps may be CPU specific and changing cpus so close to release date may hurt them. I see the tegra2 as the cpu

Ok so I've been wanting to get a tegra2-3 based tablet and the transformer prime is epic fail :/ soooo I've been watching sites like woot and have noticed that all the refurbs w/ the Iconia 500 are ~300$
I'm just not sure if its worth getting an refurb 32gb A500, old transformer, A200, or the new Acer tablets that come out in Q2?
I read the tablet is kinda heavy but honestly I just don't know if the thickness of the will be a bad thing plus no IPS on the old and new display, so I'm not sure if I should wait or get the new model.
The iconia is a great tablet. That said, the tech available now is always cheaper and has the bird in the hand advantage. The stuff available tomorrow is always shinier and flashier. You have to drop the hammer sometime, do you want a great tab now or a possibly greater one in 6 months?
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
The Iconia A510 is announced for March with Tegra III and a battery capacity of 9.800 mAh, which is more than 30% higher than that of the A500. I would wait for the A510, as it will provide much better perfromance for presumably 100 bucks more.
Best regards, maris

If you just WANT!!!! the tablet i would wait .. if you have to have it Wait. Wait until they are released and see if they are rooted..See how Development for such tablet pans out..But as stated above waiting for the next best thing will likely keep you without a tablet . I usually wait and buy when its closer to end of life and prices have dropped. I did pre order my a500. only regret is updates being so slow and the device being locked down by acer. thou this has mostly been over come.
So i would wait unless I found a very awesome Deal...
As far as the 9.800 mAh Battery.. of course is has a more powerful batter . Its processor is way more double.. if YOU LOOK At in perspective . IT Will be less Battery life compared to the battery in the a500.. So im guessing it will be about equal...
Sorry to kill your battery run time theory. Thou the t 3 has a added advantage to suspend mode. with there 5 th core. I will not get into that here
Try searching google for pc parts ohio.... I bet if you look at their "tablets" inventory.... you might find something to change your mind and make you buy an Iconia a500 right NOW. I did.... i'll never regret it!

Don't think so. Several blogs mention a battery life of 18 hours. This is of course an exaggeration, but suggests that a longer battery life can be expected compared with the A500, which has a battery life of 11 hours according to official specs.
Best regards, maris
Just get juice defender and love your battery for who he/she is ^_^.
The A500 has the most bang for your buck and is one of the better mid-range tablets, but it isn't without issues.
I got the 16 GB model for about $320 (new) several months back and would still get it again as of today (i.e. if I lost or broke my tablet). However, with a slew of Tegra 3's around the corner you can bet the price for these last-generation models will fall even more.
If you can wait until April then you will save another $50-100 if you go with the A500. Then again, you may fall in love with the new ones. It all depends if you need/want a tablet computer now (I do).
Now, that said.... I do have some minor issues with the A500 after using it for 6 months. The microphone is completely useless due to a design flaw, and the screen is not as vivid as the Samsung or Motorola counterparts. If money was no object I probably would have gotten the XOOM.... but at the end of the day I also enjoy seeing that extra $200 in my pocket that I saved by getting the A500.
In the reviews at least it was mentioned multiple times that the xoom screen was worse than the a500 and the sammy/asus had the best. Though I'm going to prob get a refurb tablet now w/ a large warranty so I can get a larger mem cap + add a sdhc card. If I waited I'd need to pay an extra 200$, but the A510 might be better so yeah im completely unsure. Sadly the Flyer is the only tablet I've seen that can use an actual pen like object to accurately write notes with.
Also does anyone have an ipad and a500? I've been trying to find a thickness comparison for a while but google has failed me. I don't want an ipad, I just know the overall dimensions to compare.

I haven't used the Asus except for a few minutes in BB, but I heard they had some pretty bad ghosting issues that ours didn't have.
As far as the iPad comparison, I believe ours is pretty close size-wise, if not just a bit smaller than the iPad. I'm sure you could find measurements of both on the internet, though.

As far as the iPad comparison, I believe ours is pretty close size-wise, if not just a bit smaller than the iPad. I'm sure you could find measurements of both on the internet, though.

Acer Iconia Tab A500 vs. iPad 2
May 18th, 2011
Considering purchasing a new tablet? Tablets are becoming more and more popular these days and they’re slowly going to be a must-have gadget for all households. Here are two of the latest slates compared in terms of basic features, so you can decide which one you should buy: the popular iPad 2 or the recently released Acer Iconia Tab A500.
In the beginning, we’ll take a brief look at their design and exterior dimensions. The iPad 2 comes in two possible colors: black or white. Its exact dimensions are as follows: 9.50 x 7.31 x 0.34 (241.2 x 185.7 x 8.8 mm) and it weighs 613 grams. The Acer Iconia Tab A500 is thicker and heavier, though, its dimensions being 10.24 x 6.97 x 0.52 (260 x 177 x 13.3 mm ) and weighing in at 730 g. It turns out that the iPad 2 is a little more portable and sleek than the Acer tablet.
Moving further to the display, we find some other differences between the two slates. The Acer Iconia Tab comes with a 10.1-inch screen and a display resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The iPad 2, on the other hand, features a 9.7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels.
It’s time to discuss the cameras. The iPad 2 doesn’t rate very well in this category, since it only packs a 0.7-megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video calling, while the Acer slate does quite well in the camera section, thanks to its 5MP shooter in the back and its additional 2MP front camera. The Acer Iconia Tab wins the battle as far as the cameras are concerned.
What can be said about the processors? The Acer Iconia Tab packs a powerful 1GHz Tegra 250 dual cortex A9 chip and 1GB of RAM, while the iPad 2 comes equipped with a 1GHz A5 dual-core chip and 512MB of RAM. What about storage space? It’s simple, the iPad 2 comes in three variants: 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, and the Acer Iconia Tab comes in 16GB and 32GB versions.
Let’s see what the two slates have in store for us when it comes to software. The Acer Iconia Tab comes installed with Android Honeycomb, the version developed especially for tablets. The iPad 2, on the other hand, features the Apple iOS 4.3 software, with many available apps. It all depends on which software you’re more accustomed to or inclined to use.
In the end, let’s also see what connectivity options each tablet has. Both slates feature Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi compatibility and HDMI ports. Regarding pricing and availability details, here’s what you should know. The iPad 2 is selling for $499 (16GB), $599 (32GB), and $699 (64GB). The Acer Iconia Tab A500 starts at $450.
Wrap-up
Although the Apple iPad 2 may start as a favorite, mainly due to its wide popularity, the Acer Iconia Tab is a fierce competitor, thanks to its high-end specs and features. If you’re looking for a reasonably-priced Android tablet, the Acer Iconia is a smart choice, but of course, it’ll never be able to beat the iPad 2 in the popularity section.

I did google it, many times but I was looking for pictures, the physical dimensions are easy to locate, but the picture thickness comparison is something else.
Hmm forgot I had a phone, the thickness on my thunderbolt is a bit larger overall

You mean the 32gb microsd card? Still unsure if its worth getting a A510 because I mean the current 1 is rootable, plays games, movies, ebook, tough?, 300$ for a 32gb refurb, and idk what else.
I will be honest, I have no intention of paying more than 400$ for a tablet hence the refurb. Thats why I'm unsure about the other ones that offer similar things. The one exception is the Transformer Prime, but Asus messed it up and isn't recalling soo...

The Iconia is a lot thicker, but I'm glad it is, because it feels harder and stronger in the hand.
Comparing to the iPad, the Iconia has a 10.1 inch screen, while the iPad has a 9.7 screen. The iPad is more square like, so it looks bigger, but in fact, the Iconia is a little bigger.

Actually, I meant, that if you look around, (it is hard to find, I got mine from www.Futureshop.ca) you can get a new, not refurb, Acer Iconia A500 with 64 GB Internal storage, for $400.00 plus taxes. Add the 32 GB microsd, & you will have 96 GB of storage.
This link should get you there, although it is now 499.00, not the 399.00 I paid at Christmas 2011.
http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/prod...spx?path=e96c6d3a6e56dcd548180b5df6fb8053en02
And to top it off, you should be able to run a 64Gb sd card and plug in an NTFS drive, I use a 1Tb HDD, thats some MAJOR mojo the ipad 2 can't even try to compete with....
Race is won before it even starts on that alone....
I was surprised that the a500 takes microsdxc though ive never seen higher than 64 gb. The one problem I have now is that some newer games like borderlands idk if its tegra3 required or tegra2 is acceptable. Though they haven't mentioned it, might as well wait. Acers Official ebay page seems to always have it.
Just checked price today, 64 GB A500 is now down to 449.00 @ Futurshop.ca.
Many tablets are coming out in a couple of months equiped with tegra 3 one of which is the toshiba 7.7 with tegra 3 and super amoled screen similar to the tab. Tegra3 is always faster in running games and also has a very good battery life due to its helper core (5th core) plus most demanding and graphic intensive games are mostly designed to run on tegra. Should i wait for this or just shell out some cash and get the tab 7.7
Also i have red that one app that i always use is the splashtop which they just released a new version specifically designed for tegra3 processor so you can play graphic intensive games from pc and stream it to your tablet.
Quadcore cpu is the new technology and dual core is showing up its age , what do you guys think?
As many people say, if you always wait for the latest and greatest you will always be waiting. I got the 7.7 cause it was the newest model and I just wanted it, did i need it ? no but I just wanted it and the big seller is that I could finally use it as both a phone and tab, something that the original tmobile tab did not fully do. I am not familiar with tegra 3 but I do keep hearing about it. It is basically up to you and what your needs are.

Any device you buy at any time is going to be out-dated within a few days/weeks. Just the way technology is. Gotta decide what your use case is and determine if a device meets your use case, and if so go for it.
Well with chainfire 3d all the new tegra 3 games works just fine.
I had TF prime for a week. It was with HC but I would say it doesnt look like fast tablet. I can't even watch YouTube 1080p in blowser. Laggyy.

Pretty much, yeah.
chainfire for HC?
I think chainfire is.not stable for HC yet? Any1 is using it?
The Galaxy Tab 7.7 is going to be leaps and bound better in the physical tablet war.. There's nothing coming out matching it's size/weight and feature set.
It's the thinnest and lightest 7-8" tablet in existence, has an amazing screen, a resolution only found in 10" Android tablets, list goes on.. Not the mention the 12+ hour battery life, besting the iPad2.
However, the CPU might be decently powerful at this time, but it will soon be easily overpowered by Qualcomm S4 tablets, Exynos2, OMAP5, (anything next gen, Tegra3 excluded). Tegra3 isn't that great, being based on Cortex A9 still.
allways a choice
This is the choice you allway have to make when it comes to electronic I personally buy something new and then enjoy it for a while until i just cant wait buying the next thing. Like its sayd many times before if you wait for the next "new" think, you can wait forewer
I really love my SGT-7.7 allthough i'm looking much forward to, it gets ICS

I have the Verizon 4G LTE and I have to say, with regard to portability, feature set and shear amazement at the size and screen this tablet is the all in one device I have been looking for especially in the portability arena.
The 7.7 is an exceptional Tab. It is actually the BEST tab on the market with all features, best form factor, best screen and overall best performance.
Quad Core CPUs are USELESS for Android at this time. Let me repeat that, USELESS! And the Tegra 3 is particularly a joke. The OS and NO APPS can take advantage of it. Good Dual Core is the way to go.
There is plenty of power in the 7.7 as it is and you can overclock it to closer to 2GHz making it a treat! For long time, it will be enough! I still have the original Tab 7 running an overclocked 1.4GHz CPU (from its 1GHz stock speed) and still works amazingly well. The 7.7 compared to it is a rocket.
Sure the Qualcomm S4 and OMAP5 sound sweet though surely Samsung will prefer using it its own Exynos2 in the near future that is "faster" than the current processor on the 7.7 but not so much faster.. definitely will be more energy efficient I think.
So, the 7.7 has plenty or life in it for a long way to come.
If I have any gripes on the 7.7 are the pathetic choices of Samsung sticking with the near 3 year old 3MP camera modules that are on every Tab no matter the new models (its absurd they never got upgraded) and the fact speakers need a bit punchier sound to them..
Other than that the 7.7 is a great Tab, as thin as it can be, feature full and with a screen to die for.
Buy it and love it.
I took the plundge and bought the international tab considering that im on ATT network. I bought all the accesories i can think of from the
international tab 7.7

Congrats!! Well done and enjoy
Spec wars are useless in this era of android...functionality is key. My samsung vibrant can do anything this tablet can...just a bit slower...a new tablet won't be able to do anything that this can't ...but other tablets like the padfone or transformer prime can turn into laptops if that's what you want...
For me...the screen is amazing and its portable to the point that I don't feel like an idiot leaving the house with it...so this is perfect for me

Wow you bought the whole shebang, nice!
I think this is the best tablet out yet, (until tomorrow that is ). The hype now of comparing CPU cores is exactly the same as the frequency wars on desktop CPU's a few years ago, and also very much like the sensor pixel count on digital cameras. Up to a point it becomes meaningless and pointless. Its all marketing to hype up a product.
For mobile devices the performance of a device is not solely governed by the CPU. Its the sum of its parts. Its why an iPhone4 (single core) is as responsive and as fast in practical use as a GalaxyS2 (dual core). The Tegra2 was a joke, and it looks like the Tegra3 isn't the messiah its been hyped to be either.
Welcome to the 7.7 club and I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy using the device.

I would say it is defiantly still worth it. The portability of the device as many others have said is great. I don't really think there will be many apps that will really need or take advantage of a quad core CPU.
worth it? YES!
if you always wait about new technology, i think you'll buy your first tablet on next 10 - 15years from now.
if Toshiba will release their new product 7.7 which is totally copy from Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, you'll get only shame.

The Galaxy S3 is one of the best selling smartphones of all time, is there any reason to upgrade from the S3 US to the Nexus 4? and how noticeable of an improvement would the Quad Core S4 Pro be over the Dual S4 Chip in the S3 US.

I would not upgrade, you can just wait until a 4.2 AOSP ROM for the GS3 comes out. In terms of Hardware, they are not that different: both have a quad core, a similar sized HD screen, and both are just insanely fast (I believe, at least

The Nexus 4 does in fact have GLONASS support, according to this comparison.
Also, LTE was abandoned because Google didn't want to partner with carriers (especially in the US) to launch Nexus devices, considering how badly Verizon handled Galaxy Nexus updates. Google's cooperation with At&t/Verizon would have reportedly made it more financially feasible to add LTE.
I am interested to hear reviews from those going from an S3 to a Nexus 4. I feel I would prefer the S3 over the Nexus 4, the Nexus 4 is just too cheap to pass up though. I currently have a Galaxy Nexus and love it. But I have spent some time with an S3 and would rather have that over my GN.
i just played with the n4 at my local store and let me say that n4 mops the floor with it..it is amazingly fast..having a ported 4.2 aosp build for the s3 is not the same as having the orginal 4.2..****, i have a hox and the n4 blows the hox out of the water..and the good thing is, google is going to release the n4 with 32gb..no source..just have been told by a google employee
Ah things get a little more interesting when the British, Aussie, European (and so on) Galaxy S3's are thrown into the mix.
Then it's Quad Core Exynos 4412 vs Quad Core Snapdragon S4 Pro
1GB vs 2GB RAM
The mobile networks around the world are quicker to provide updates than the American 'carriers'
BATTLE OF THE TITANS!!!
Yes, especially if you have the international version which has less than stellar custom ROM support.
My Galaxy S3 is the phone that single-handedly convinced me only buy Nexus phones from now on.
So what are your thoughts, those who have went from the S3 to the Nexus 4? I am curious.

Awwww. That's messed up how they didn't release a 32GB version from the start. I'm fine with 16GB, but nothing wrong with having more storage.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
As someone who has switched to the Nexus 4 from the AT&T S3, these are my thoughts.
Cons:
- No removable storage.
- No LTE (not that big of a deal imo)
- No Removable Battery (never removed my battery, so don't care)
- Nexus 4 is made of glass, and slides off almost everything.
- Screen is less sensitive (I've frequently had to tap multiple time for it to be registered)
- Better battery life on the S3 (but I haven't had my N4 for very long)
- No hardware home button on the front (this is a nice convenience imo.)
- Better Camera on the S3
- Louder speakers on the S3 (N4 is barely audible in the shower)
Pros
- N4 feels so much better than the S3. Swiping feels superb, holding the phone feels great, and the N4 looks much better than S3.
- AOSP Out of the Box (I didn't think this would be a big deal, but I've been using the phone unrooted and wow, its like everything just works how I want it to.)
- Direct updates from Google (no more waiting on custom roms and leaks)
- Better Screen (everything looks a lot more realistic and better imo)
- Faster (everything is so smooth on the N4 and I haven't seen any lag or stutter yet as I did [rarely] on the S3. This creates a better experience.)
My experience with the Nexus 4 is that it just feels better to use than the S3. Its something you have to try for yourself I guess.

I'm using it in 2013 and it still puts all other tablets to shame (looks wise). C'mon Samsung, release a sequel to this BEAST of tablet, perhaps with a Quad Core and a 1080p super amoled plus display -- same body. Please. I will pay $1000 if you want but please release part dos!!
I want the 7.7 since released, but never get one here in in europe.AfterI had a nexus7 , gtab 8.9, sonyZ, asus padfone

I want the 7.7 since release date, but never find one here in europe. After many tabs like a nexus 7, Gtab 8.9, Asus Fonepad, SonyZ, Acer and many more, i found a shop 1 month ago that get a contingent of new 7.7. In times of quadcore i buyed it for 250.- brand new and like it very much.
The best tablet i ever had.
For a 2 year old tablet its very good. better specs like the tab3 and other brand new devices. Asus present the Fonepad but the 7.7 could do this years before.
Iam so interested why no producer makes a tablet with specs like the 7.7. Thin, sdcard, umts, phonecall with 3g, 1280er display bigger then 7 inch and a very good accutime. Only the p6800 had all this like 2 years ago.
most premium looking tablet. i hope the next one is borderless since we dont usually hold this by the bezel, leave that for ipads and 10 inchers.

This is the best designed tablet. However, it's limitations rests on Android. For tablets, we need a full fledged operating system like Windows 8. Not only is Windows 8 a complete OS, it runs 100x smoother than Android.
We can have a 8 cores 9000 Ghz CPU with 5,000 GB rams. It will still lag on Android. Sorry, but my next tablet will be windows 8. For mobile phones, Android is ok.
Just waiting for a 7-8 tablets to be released with windows 8. It's too bad that I will no longer have the call and text feature of the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Enjoy your "complete" OS. Cm9 ROCKS this tablet with tremendous battery life. Btw you might want to invest 1.2k or more if you want windows 8 full with no lag, and not just the RT version since it's not a "complete" os. Oh and don't forget a shoulder bag to haul the thing in. I've messed with a few of them but the battery wasn't that impressive and they were way heavy (the guy was hauling it in a backpack). A laptop would have been a better choice than a full x86 slate IMHO, but by that time the argument is "laptop vs desktop". Rabbit trails.
Good luck!

so no good replacement for P6800 soon ?
It's hard to find new slim, below 8", good screen and have 32GB internal tablet
The LG G Pad 8.3 looks like the next best tablet that might tempt me to upgrade my P6800
Specs look good as long as it has LTE

Very bad trolling try, you know ?
We've been stuck and skrew up during about 30 years with Windows/Microsoft/WinTel monopolistic position on the PCs, and you want more with mobile devices ???
If you want a Win8 device go to the next coming locked Toshiba Encore 8" device with Intel Atom Proc and you'll be fine, but just forget about XDA forums btw...
Toshiba is always selling locked devices (with locked bootloaders) most often impossible to root and/or to customized...

LOL, I don't care about custom rom, root or customized bs. I just want a tablet the runs smooth. Only reason why still I have the 7.7 is because it's the only tablets that lets me send texts and make calls.
This is going to be a great replacement for this tablet

No phone capability so I guess it is more of a replacement for the P6810.
Large screen phones are a rarity. This company's Aries range looks promising though I doubt they will match the build quality of the 7.7

No... No oled ---> ignore!
Friend of mine decided to flash off his new 8" Note 3 last week, insisted on showing everyone how good the screen quality was.
He decided to show an episode of Horizon (BBC Science TV show for overseas readers) about black holes in 720p, funnily enough I had that episode on my 6800 so we played them side by side.....everyone in the office said ".....Oooo the picture on that older one is so much better...much sharper and more vivid....." he wasn't a happy bunny!
Don't know if anyone noticed but a 6800 sold on ripbay UK last night for £180, in good nick with the box and accessories.
I've got 3 6800's and a 6810 now sitting in various docking stations doing assorted things, just wish there was an official 4.2.2 release.
Ho Hum
My 7.7 is my baby. It's my main device for everything, entertainment, odd games and portfolio device. The device I read the daily news and catch up on tech news, reviews and read xda every night in bed. My wife knows not to disturb me when I and with my baby lol.
I have a note 10.1 also which I doodle with. I have the same apps on both but I just don't find the note tab satisfying to use like the 7.7. It's not just the looks, it's the whole ergonomics also. 7.7 is the perfect size for me. Big enough to read websites on and small enough to carry around. I love how thin it is and how premium it feels.
I'm amazed that even though the device got the all clear by the courts (Apple being jealous and trying to hinder the sales) Samsung should have expanded on this design. The 10.1 is ugly at best. The 7.7 looks beautiful.. like a Porsche.
It's a shame, I am tempted by the New 2014 note 10.1, that does look nice but it still is a little off. Also I'd prefer a smaller size. And then there's no amoled. This is a big booboo.
Sadly the 7.7 is feeling the strain. It is getting old and a bit slow. I always need more ram and on the p6810 I can't use multi window. I really love this feature on my note 10.1 and would love it for the 7.7. Thing is can I justify spending a couple of hundred quid for a p6800 - an old device that I know is slow for some tasks already just to get multiwindow?
Hmmmm decisions decisions....

Man, I love the 7.7 but since swapping (and cutting) my SIM into the new Nexus 7 FHD LTE, I haven't looked back. I rarely used the dialer on the 7.7 since I also carry a phone, and I can always make voice calls using GrooveIP if I need to.
The thinner bezel on the Nexus 7 means I can put it in most of my pockets now. The 7.7 is really chunky compared to it, and for not much more screen space. True, it isn't SAMOLED so colors aren't as punchy, but much sharper resolution. Plus, no lag! The 7.7 was always laggy, sadly

Totally agree. Just the right size, great screen, great feel... To see a 7.7 v2 for /2013/2014 would be fantastic. Screw Apple for litigating this tablet out of popularity and therefore dev support :/
Was looking at buying a new tablet a few weeks ago.
What I wanted:
1. HD AMOLED screen
2. Can make calls
3. 7-9"
4. Can install AOSP-style ROM
Nothing that you could buy new fit all these criteria except for the 7.7 which was released 2 years ago!
So I bought a 2nd hand 7.7 for $250 and haven't looked back
Only thing that I think could be improved is a faster processor and more stable custom roms and it would be perfect!
Finally sold my 7.7 tablet + my android phone to give way for a Note 3. I have to let go of bringing and maintaining two android devices (Phone + tablet) at the same time. I really love this tablet but sad to say, some good things really never last.

I really want a Note 3 but I can't give up my tablet. Hopefully, I get enough of Christmas and birthday money to cover it.

That is also my ultimate aim (single multi-purpose device). sm-n900 in 3 weeks ! The newer devices don't really need that much tweaking, but won't stop me trying anyway.
Still have some fun & unfinished work with this tab though, before passing it on..... keep it in the family
