[Q] File System "Failed to Mount" - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently running Cm7 nightly 87 off SD card and have been trying to modify the build.prop to fix Netflix's chipmunk problem. When I check "Mount File System" in ES File Explorer, it says "Failed to Mount" so I'm unable to proceed any further.
Can anyone offer a solution or explanation as to why I'm getting this message?
Thanks in advance.

Try root explorer, that always works for me. ES file explorer is 50/50 for me. It works then whenever it feels like it..lol

Thanks, that did it! Had to figure out on my own how to use it but it did the trick!

Godsdammit! I was hoping to get through this without spending any more money. Between the $4 for Titanium Backup and the $3 for this, I've spent a bit of dough getting my nook color to be everything it can be.
[sigh]
On the plus side, now that I have CM7 and replaced adw with GoLauncherEx, and now have Netflix working, I've gotta say I'm one happy puppy.

Using EVO keyboard with arrows on NON-EVO builds

Im sorry if this is the wrong section for this, I figured this would be the best spot.
The reason im posting this is because a lot of people were asking how to use the EVO keyboard (with arrows) on NON-Evo sense builds. First off, as far as I have tried, the build does have to be a sense build. I have tested this on just about every sense build for the HD2.
I've attached the renamed apk that ive been using. Hopefully it will work since I sent it straight from my phone. If you use it, skip #1.
1.) Rename the HTC_IME.apk to newHTC_IME.apk
2.)Go into the folder where the newHTC_IME.apk is (if you download it from your phone then it will be in the "download" folder) and using "Root Explorer" or another root file explorer long press the apk and select copy.
3.)Go to your system>>app folder and paste the newHTC_IME.apk. Since its not the same name as the original it will not ask you if you want to over ride the original. But it will still be there if you choose you do not want the EVO keyboard later on.
4.) You WILL have to reboot for the changes to take affect, if you do not you will not have a keyboard till you do reboot.
I hope I didnt make this complicated lol, and yes i know....some of you know how to do this. I did it for the ones who did not.
Works perfectly with desire sense mdeejay build. Thanks.

U don't know how long ive been searching for this and all the time it was right under my nose!
Im copying the newHTC_IME.apk to, "sd/android/AndroidApps/," then rebooting but nothing!
Ive tried clicking on newHTC_IME.apk in this folder it tries to install but then says, "application not installed".
Please Help.

the method you're doing won't work.. follow the OP's instruction on how to do it, or install droid explorer and then copy/paste the newHTC_IME.apk file to system/app folder.
BE VERY WARY ABOUT THIS!!!
I'm going to have to start from scratch as doing this has lost my keyboard, permanently.
I keep getting a "Sorry" message saying that "The application Touch Input has stopped unexpectedly" and my keyboard is unavailable.
This is after installing this new keyboard, as well as after restoring the original one. It's basically just screwed my keyboard so I'm going to have to rebuild my instance of Android from scratch.

My friends, i'm not able to write the file newHTC_IME.apk into /system/app/.
I've installed "Root Explorer" and I also cannot, it tells me that there's no space to copy the file... even i use mount r/w
i'v also tried to access superuser but i dont know how it works... superuser2.3.6 app screen shows me there's no apps, log shows me there's no log, and i don't know how can i give root privilegies to "root explorer"
thnx!
SOLVED: I was able doing the same, deleting HTC_IME.pak and copying newHTC_IME.pak. Thnx!!!

Are you rooted? If not, you cannot do it, because you need root access to do changes in /system directory. If, you can do it with e.g. one of the following apps:
Root explorer (paid)
Super Manager (free)
File Expert (free)
After starting, you need to mount (switch) r/w. Additionally, in both free apps, you need to enable root option in their settings before. Now can you can overwrite.
Yessss !! it works (yes, I'm rooted)
Thank you, MatDrOiD ! I used File Expert. Just 2 questions:
in file expert, when i go into options - mount - and choose "read and write" should I be already positioned browsing the "system" folder ??
I've done this way, but I suspect that "mount read and write" is a global option referring to system folders and can be enabled just when entering File expert ?

Only System files have to be Mounted as Read/Write to Edit them, other than that they can't be Modified!

I don't like to say it, but pressing thanks-button would be awesome!
You can also mount r/w while in root folder, does not matter. After closing file expert, you always have to enable root explorer function and mounting r/w again, when you start file expert the next time. At least i cannot find an option to enable it permantly. Which is understandable for me, because superuser rights can damage your phone (so this enable action works metaphorically as a little warning, imho).

Are you using the google market? Allot of apps don't show in the Amazon market. If it isn't in the google market you could always sideload it.

<Root Explorer apparently cannot be side-loaded due to protected app. It appears that you need to install directly from the marketplace or another android application store.> - edit... others said this was incorrect and they were able to sideload Root Explorer. Not sure why we had issues. I was assisting a friend get his Market working and found that Root Explorer was no longer listed on Amazon App Store. We did find it on AppBrain, but the AppBrain app wouldn't install on the KF.
In the end we found that ES File Explorer had a 'unprotect system folder' option that allowed the Market APK to be moved into System/App. His market is now working great. Hope this helps. You should be able to fnd ES File Explorer on XDADev or on the Amazon App Store (free app).
I finally got it uploaded and now i save the apl files to sd card and when i go in to move them to system > app it sas that "you can not paste becasue the file system is read only and when i try to change the permissions it give a weird error

You must not have root access. You should be able to change the file system to r/w if you have given superuser permission. Are you sure you have root access? What program are you using? (Super manager, root explorer, es explorer, etc.) Did you try using adb to change the permissions?

You could use ES File Explorer from the amazon appstore. Just enable root mode.

Just for reference, root explorer side loaded for me perfectly fine.
And you cant write to those protected folders without having root enabled.

My buddy kept getting an error that the app was unauthorized when trying to side-load. Tried to move it from sdcard/downloads to data/app and reboot and received the same error. Good to know Root Explorer can be side-loaded without having to install from the market directly if necessary. He was able to sideload all the other vvpGoogle apps and etc fine.
For anyone who can't download Root Explorer from the Amazon app store (I couldn't as I'm in Hong Kong) google root explorer apk and there are a couple of links with the apk for direct install - I think I registered for Mobiles24.com to get that and it worked fine for me.
However, I could only rarely change permissions with Root Explorer so I also searched for "Super manager android apk" which was better and easier to change permissions with. I also just started looking for Filestube/Megaupload links and then transferring by USB before installing with RE or SM
Still haven't got Android Market working - it loads and just says, "waiting for download to start"
I wonder if it's because it's my first Android and I don't have any devices listed?

I had the same problem. From what I can tell its the vending.apk
It would install and load fine, but no downloads would ever actually kick off.
Use the market apk thats in that gapps zip with the rest of the apps.
From what I can tell that's the newer market anyways and flashier than the vending.apk one.
That gapps one worked first try for me.
root explorer error
Hi all
New to this, total rookie, so please be patient
I live in Canada, got fire so trying to get droid market place. As far as I can tell I rooted it correctly using superoneclick. I cant access amazon market.place from Canada so I got root explorer from mobiles24.com and installed it on my kindle (I assume this what is meant by side install)
So now when I go to run it, iget the following error.
The application root explorer (Process com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again
Thoughts on what is causing this?
There root guide for Linux/Mac includes the APK and automatically installs it. You could follow the steps the script uses to install, or just sideload it.
I side load'ed mine. No problem

This, although it's not as obvious to switch to Read/Write as root explorer. Menu->Setings->Scroll to the Bottom->Check Root Explorer->Yes on Superuser Prompt->Check Mount File System
What I did though was, I pulled the APK for Root Explorer from my data/app folder on my G2, then put that onto the Fire.
Then using ES File Explorer I installed Root Explorer.

[Q] File managers dont have access to directories

Hello.
I am not sure if it is android wear problem. If it's not sorry then
On my phone using normal file explorer apps everything is ok.
But on android wear apps ( i tested 3):
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rocketstartups.wearfilemanager
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woiapp.filemanagerwear
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jppjff.fileexplorer
when i want to open "sdcard" or other directories they are saying "*name* unaccessible" or "no access".
How can I fix that?
Thanks for help
Based on the app comments, it seems to be a common issue.
I have tried one, and I see there is no permission. I have the same, I cannot read /storage, but I can read it using adb on computer.
I think that SD storage acces permission is missing in these apps.
I just sideloaded ES File Explorer because of the same problem. /sdcard/ is accessible with no issues

"System data" taking more than 15GB

Hi!
First of all, I'm using a 32GB Nexus 6P, on the last Android 8.0 beta. My Nexus 6P has always run stock Android, unrooted. No here's a screenshot that should make my issue pretty clear: http://i.imgur.com/YCkubsu.png
As you can see, "system data" is taking 15GB. I've been trying to figure out what these 15GB are. I searched on Google, I found some answers about TWRP backups, but since I've never installed TWRP on this phone (I've never unlocked the bootloader, rooted it or anything), that can't be it.
Solid Explorer tells me "internal storage" has 5/25GB free, so 20GB used. But when I select everything in internal storage, it says "5GB used", so selecting everything doesn't select those missing 15GB.
Since I'm not rooted, I have no idea how to find out what's taking all that storage. I will forever be grateful if anyone has an idea or a solution! Thanks!
Might not be relevant, but I was once way short on space and found a bunch of stuff in the "recycle bin" in ES File Explorer.

I would just back up all your stuff wanted and reflash stock factory image.
