Hey,
OK I keep seeing all these different variations of names.
10.1
10.1 v / v3
google io 10.1
I was under the impression there are only 2 versions. The limited edition and the regular one? I I bought the one in NY so which do I have!? Haha, and both have been rooted, but the ny one cannot be updated to 3.1 right?
Troll away if necessary, just please explain
I think this is answered elsewhere but the short answer is
10.1 The new one being sold in NYC now and everywhere (in US anyway) on June 17. Android 3.1 not rooted.
10.1v An older version sold in Europe (?) for Vodafone (sp?). Android 2.3?
Google I/O Similar to the 10.1 but given away ahead of launch to Google I/O attendees. Android 3.0 (soon to be updated to 3.1 if not already) and rooted..

10.1 correct
10.1v (v is for vodafone) sold in Vodafone AUS and GER. It's a bit thicker and have diffrent back then 10.1 and 10.1G and 8 mpix camera, instead of 3mpix as on all other devices (10.1 and 10.1G)
10.1G is same as 10.1 just diffrent print on back cover.
And system they running at this moment: 10.1 and 10.1G have 3.1, 10.1v 3.0

That's not 100% correct. In order of announcement:
10.1v - Announced at MWC as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (not the 10.1v). It came loaded with Honeycomb 3.0.1 and it came only as 16gb 3g model. It was later renamed as the 10.1v after the announcement of an new 10.1 at CTIA. It was given to Vodafone as a worldwide exclusive (hence the "v" in the name). Is is a very different looking tab on the back (Google image search "10.1v"). It has no ports other than the Samsung 30pin proprietary port. It is thinker and heavier than the new 10.1 at 10.99mm and 595g but is by no means thick or heavy. It also featured an 8mp camera. Note that Vodafone is not just in Europe. Has not been upgraded to 3.1.
10.1 - When the iPad2 was released Samsung went back to the drawing board to make it thinner and lighter than the iPad 2. It was announced at CTIA as having an microSD card slot (which has since gone missing) but was mainly cosmetic changes to beat the iPad2. Notably the camera was reduced to 3mp but the display was upgraded. This is the version that was released in the US and is listed on the Samsung US website. Released with 3.1.
10.1 Google i/o edition - Is the same as the 10.1 but has an exclusive android logo white back but is very smiler to the 10.1. It was given out as a gift to 5000 attendees of a Google conference known as i/o. Has been upgraded to 3.1
Changing the name of the first 10.1 to the 10.1v has caused major confusion. What should be known is the 10.1v is still a really solid Tab and not some old crap model as some people here have said. Yes, I own one.
This info should be stickied
Another noob question: Is there a difference in the firmwares for these devices?

No, It was 5000. Feel free to look it up.
As for the firmware they all have straight up, no overlay Honeycomb but 10.1 and 10.1v firmwares aren't interchangeable if that's what your asking.
Omg. 5000 at about $400 (if not more) a pop. That is a shipload of dosh.

~$2M For Google and Samsung? That's a lot? Don't think so.

When I was looking for a date when the Galaxy Tab 10.1v would get an update to Android 3.1 i found this link.
http://mobile.downloadatoz.com/tuto...-1-8-9-7-to-update-android-3-1-honeycomb.html
Can it be or not? Can't even find the download though.
Do you guys know when Samsung will release 3.1 officially?
This is most certainly fake. First of all the picture doesn't even have honeycomb on it. Secondly they say that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be the first device to get 3.1 while the others are waiting just to get gingerbread 2.3.4
Two things wrong with that, the xoom already has 3.1 and they are comparing a tablet which will get 3.1 eventually to other "devices" waiting for 2.3.4 which are smartphones which will never get 3.1 because 3.1 is intended for tablets and google tv.
This is one of those crap put together sites with misinformation.
He's absolutely crazy if he think the Galaxy Tab 7 is getting Android 3.1 anytime soon (if ever).

I am not sure, but I am hoping the update is out by June 8th when they release the Samsung 10.1 in US.
I can at least give you somewhat good news. Android 3.1 was released last Friday in the US on the Motorola Xoom. So it is officially out and I am assuming and hoping that it should be released shortly on the Samsung.
According to Samsung's official page, Galaxy Tab 10.1 should release with [the TouchWiz UX layered over] Honeycomb 3.1
http://www.samsung.com/us/article/the-next-generation-of-galaxy-tabs
Obviously 3.1 is very new, but I can't find any other Samsung source confirming that it will ship with 3.1. Most pages still say "3.0"
Has Samsung truly changed their ways as far as updates? With 3.1 being announced only a month prior to a device's release, they're now claiming Tab 10.1 to be introduced with the latest version. This is awfully quick considering it took about a year for Froyo to hit their Galaxy S handsets.
Hopefully this bodes well for future updates, too (I'm looking at you ICS).
Interesting ...
I am curious about the Book Cover accessories mentioned there.
Anyone know how does it function and look like?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
3.1 is considered a minor update to 3.0. That's why it is still referred to as Honeycomb. It is not the same as the update from 2.2 and 2.3 where they gave them different designations (froyo and gingerbread) and the API changed a lot.
I noticed that too (about the Book Cover). I have a suspicious feeling it will look eerily similar to the Smart Cover for iPad 2 (same goes for the 10.1 itself) -- to be honest, I would be happy with that .

I get that it's a small upgrade, I was just surprised that Samsung isn't going to release it as an OTA a few months after the device is for sale, as that has been their modus operandi for their current Android devices (save for the Nexus S).
What's duh difference between the 10.1 and 10.1v.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
10.1v is the original design. 10.1 is the slimmed down version.
http://womstech.com/2011/04/09/what...amsungs-galaxy-tab-10-1-and-galaxy-tab-10-1v/
Outdated article.
Be aware that there is no microSD slot available on the 10.1
i do not recommend to get a 10.1v. Samsung doesn't support it for firmware update and gives vodafone the update ball and vodafone plays the ball back. None knows when it will get updated to the latest android version our it will even get a update. at this moment it looks for me that support is dropped for this version and they only support 10.1 slim version.

They refer to Verizon. What about WiFi-only GT 10.1 devices? ICS this yes? LOL
The Verizon version will have camera drivers which are basically all that is lacking from making CM9 perfect.
I think it´s sad that the mobile providers are this slow pushing new software to their customers. Google already moved on to Jellybean :-/
Still no ICS? Bahhhh

"As promised, Samsung is finally rolling out Android 4.0 to Galaxy S II users in South Korea today, and has also announced the first details of European availablity. Poland, Sweden, and Hungary will also be getting the update today, with more countries on the way — and the UK could be one of the next up. A tweet from Brendan Arndt of UK carrier Three has revealed that their final build of Ice Cream Sandwich is currently undergoing internal testing."
I'm sure all of you know what this means for us Note users. Can't be much longer now before we see ICS. Looks like Samsung might make good on its estimate for ICS delivery.
Taken from Twitter
Well March 10 came and went without the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Galaxy S II, but hey what’s a few extra days? If you remember, we posted that earlier today a tweet was pulled by SK Telecom announcing that ICS would arrive on March 13. It was pulled because Samsung wanted to make the official announcement, which they just did via Twitter and Facebook. Here’s what they said on Facebook:
We’re thrilled to announce that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be served to GALAXY S II users in the European countries including Poland, Hungary and Sweden, as well as Korea today, and gradually roll out to other markets.

I would expect to see the Galaxy Note and others to get ICS by May. If you’re in the U.S., you’re probably wondering when ICS will make its way stateside. Unfortunately I don’t have any confidence that we will get a taste until at least the Summer.
Also the Gingerbread firmware update for the Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab, etc. is quite interesting in that Face Unlock and Photo Editor will make it’s way to these devices. It’s unlikely these devices will ever see ICS, but at least Samsung is trying to bring some its features to these devices.
Source - TalkAndroid
ICS in the USA is at the hands of the CARRIERS. I wouldn't count on Verizon or AT&T releasing it unless it snows in July LOL.
Another reason to buy full price, international versions. Most will get any updates way before (if ever) a carrier branded version.
Heck, I got my note in late December and have had 3 updates (GB). The carrier notes have had how many updates? Not sure, but are they even on 2.3.6?

Cosmetically different.
Does not seem to add much in terms of function for most users.
Imilka's asop is something worth trying out. It has somebugs but not a big issue. However still find GB roms to be better and faster.
@Taptalk-GalaxyNote
New browser and hardware acceleration alone makes me want ics, not to mention the other features.
Shame it's got touchwiz all over it.

I really dont understand what makes Samsung take so long for Note, if they have already done with SII. My opinion: except the S Pen app remaining things on Note are similar to SII. Porting S Pen should not take much time.
